- Compare the new cloud version of the Select Subject feature in Photoshop and see if it's worth using over the standard one. We all know how good Select Subject is with making automatic selections with one click. However, will the cloud processing be even more detailed, or is it just a gimmick? Let's find out in this video.
I hope you enjoy this episode. Thank you so much for watching :)

Its because of Unmesh that I got a designer job today just came by to say thank you, its been years since I started watching your videos and you made me a photoshop problem solver 👌🏻
ADMIN HERE: On behalf of Unmesh Dinda, congratulations! Thanks for your great feedback and for sharing your achievements with us. Wishing you the very best in this job and in all future endeavors.
Hey Pix. Got one for you here. If you have both images zoomed in and positioned at the same place (let's say the upper left corner), you can use SPACEBAR + SHIFT to pan through the contents EQUALY. No need to move the contents in one windows, then do the same in the other one. It's a GREAT way to compare two images, side by side. ;)
Love this! Thank you
Unmesh has the best Photoshop tutorials on the internet.
1. Are your images processed in the cloud used by Adobe (Ai learning, marketing, who knows?, etc.)?
2. Could Adobe implement the same capability on the device version (= is this a gimmick that don't really demand that much processing power but is only implemented on the "cloud" version so to force people to use the cloud for whatever reason)?
3. Am I paranoid?
Very valid question... No, you're not paranoid
2. You got it. 3. No
Briliant questions!
1. Yes.
2. Yes. For people who have illegal- cracked software, force them to use "cloud" BS. You have to keep investors satisfied earning more billions.
3. No. You a very logical person!
Since watching this yesterday, (I had no idea this option was available in Photoshop), I've needed to select several subjects. So far, the cloud has worked way better. There were 2 selections that the device option didn't recognize at all. The subjects didn't light up pink when I hovered over them with a selection tool, but with the cloud option selected the subjects lit up immediately. Thank you Unmesh!
You giving Adobe UX Suggestions was really nice. loved it.
Your studio is a complete vibe and I want it haha
Thanks, Unmesh bro.. I had deficulty in Subject selection with complex background... Your video helped me lot..
Another FANTASTIC video. Thank you!
Love your teal and orange background light.
Very informative video thanks so much
I bought your plugin, it's so easy to use and very helpful! :) I am a satisfied user of it.
Gold tips, thank you!
Adobe should watch this video and adapt the open view for cloud or computer selection. Great video as always.
Very helpful as always 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Great video as always.
very clean i love it, hoping that it works in my clips
Awesome thorough review yet again brother! For the example of the woman with the difficult to select hair - is there a specific past video you've done that would help me with removing the blue color at the end of her hair to complete the selection so that it looks normal? Thank you so much for everything you do.
I had no idea cloud processing was available, this would have helped me so much in the past week.
Absolutely would love it brought out to the toolbar
Help full thanks sir
Awesome dude 🆒 RIGHT Time to watch your video💫
informative, thanks !
Yay!! I'm so excited that it does such a good job with the fur!!
Great review/tutorial.
Really amazing 🤩
This a great tip and will save countless hours.
Nice to see you after US trip 😊
Thanks for the info
I never knew! Thank you for this demo! 🙂
nice video!!! Does the power of the device or the gpu influence something?
Thank you!
I'd be curious to see if you compared Adobe vs. iPhone subject selection. I literally use my iPhone most of the time for its speed and accuracy; after I send the subject to my Macbook to put into Photoshop.
Had no idea the cloud feature was even an option. Thanks :)
Fantastic video as always! Great info.
But that's a teapot not a kettle! 😄
Thank a lot.
06:49 Yassss!!!!! Surely the Ps team follow your channel, hope they take your feedback onboard
That you so much! I have been so disappointed with Photoshop's select subject feature for a long time now. There were entire sections of my subjects that Photoshop was unable to select and I'd have to spend a lot of time manually selecting them. The cloud version does a much better job and saves me So much time. I can't believe Adobe has been hiding this feature right under our noses while we pay them a small fortune for their subscriptions.
Thanks!
Thanks very lot on Sir Unmesh Sir love you from Pakistan ❤️❤️💕
As alway I enjoy your instruction. I was unaware of the update utilizing the Cloud for select subject. I got all excited as I've been trying to find a way to separate a photo of helicopter airborne, with blurry rotor blades, from the background (usually the sky) I've tried the methods and even using "refine hair" but with no luck. Any tips on how to overcome this challenge? Thanks so much
I honestly hate this. This feature surely could run locally on the type of hardware most users have. To me this seems like Adobe moving features from the software and putting them online to mess with software pirates. We already pay a fortune for the software. If it is supposed to benefit the user, let us choose between running the new method locally or in the cloud.
Hi. I love your videos and it has been a great help for me in my work. I'm using Photoshop 2020 and I noticed that when I do masking, my brush tool doesn't completely hide the parts that are black even though I put everything to 100%. It leaves a blur residual and it is annoying. Can you help me to fix it?
I'm sure the Cloud limitation is simply based on VRAM and model size, so it'd be nice if they let people download the model and run it on their own computer if they have the VRAM to do it.
Haha. Adobe. Letting us.
Really? So why did the hair have SO much better selection on the device? Also, how exactly can edge detection be based on anything to do with VRAM, in what way? How can the size of the gpu frame buffer make a difference to the accuracy of an edge detection algorithm? In what way does it affect the result and why?
When you mention model size, what are you actually referring to? Since this is simple 2D images and absolutely nothing complex happening, not like rendering a 3D scene or vid, what are you meaning in terms of “download the model and run it on their own computer if they have the VRAM to do it”? This again makes no sense to me, the amount of ram one has at their disposal, whether cpu or gpu ram, neither have any bearing as to whether or not something like this will run. If there isn’t enough, the page file is used, hence it might be slower, but you’re whole point is that the amount of ram is affecting the end result and the actual quality of the edge detection and mask.
If you could please reply that would be greatly appreciated. I’m genuinely intrigued as I’ve never heard of anything like the kind of restrictions you’re speaking about and I’d like to learn more. On the other hand, I can tell you a little bit about how Photoshop actually processes pixels and what’s going on there. Regardless, I can almost certainly guarantee you that the amount of (V)RAM would have no effect on the accuracy of the resulting edge detection but if I’m incorrect please explain how and why, I’d very much like to understand.
@@aaronperelmuter8433 It's AI and AI/ML is heavily reliant on VRAM. Different models can have different strengths, which is why the device selection could work better than the cloud version.
Model size just refers to the number of paramaters it was trained with. It might not look complex, but it definitely is which is why it can benifit from having a larger model size. This is especially apparent when the AI has to 'make up' what the remaining selection looks like when it's white on white or like black on black.
For example txt2img's full model (for stable diffusion) is about 7 GB large. For float32 is 4 GB and float16 is 2 GB (file sizes). For VRAM it takes 4 GB VRAM to run.
For language models, GPT-Neo 2.7B can run on 8GB VRAM. 2.7B refering to it's paramaters. There are smaller language models that don't require as much VRAM to run.
You can also offload and use RAM in addition to VRAM. For example, KoboldAI's 13B model can be split across 10GB VRAM and 32GB system RAM.
You can also offload to CPU; however, CPU utalization is typically a lot slower.
@@aaronperelmuter8433 the person you are replying to is talking about machine learning / nerual network "trained model data". it has nothing to do with 3d models. the model might have higher vram requirements and only be usable by some small percentage of the market right now. It's less about edge detection and more about a computer determining what part of the image is the subject and selecting what it thinks are the pixels that make up that subject. if you look up stuff like stable diffusion it might help showcase what the term "model" means in that sense. Hopefully that bridges the gap in this conversation.
@@BrettStriker Very much so. Thanks!
Probably a very silly question/ But with the up to date photoshop 2023 & the up to date Beta Photoshop 2023 what’s the best to use & why? Thanks Unmesh 👏
Hey! Can you please make a video on how you would enhance an existing texture for a videogame? With all nessesary means, eg supersampeling, DDS settings and so on! Would be appriciated by the mod community
I love you umesh bhai ❤️❤️thank you very much for all ur efforts.....this really helps a lot 😭😭😭❤️......thank u very much ❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
Your Look Brother 😍😍, You look really amazing, you look same as a
south indian Actor "Suriya". Love your look
Cloud processing, who new! Thanks pix, learn something new every time!
I was thinking, no way the cloud processing picks up on and masks the dog fur and preserves the fur. Bloody did though, going to be implementing this in my work flow for sure!
I noticed though, the background on the dog image was out of focus. Is that helpful to the A.I cloud as it gives a definition of a border?
If both subject and background were in focus does it perform as good?
Excellent
thanks!
Make big sense mate.
Legend 👏
That suggestion...Totally worth it, I wonder why it's not the way they did it. So instinctive.
My guess is they don’t want their cloud server slammed so are making it less obvious, for now
I have version 24, and for some reason i don't have that " select subject " drop down menu at all, with the arrow next to it?
Stop whatever you're doing, new video on PiXimperfect!
What photo editing software is best for photographer
Hi. I am a photoshop newbie and was trying to use this feature tonight but I kept getting this error and I cannot figure out why: “Could not complete your request Select Subject Classifer output is empty”. What am I missing? Great video as well.
Hey Unmesh, how is your plugin better than the PS compositing? Thanks
Great video, as always. Have I missed something or have you not mentioned HOW to bring that Device / Subject "out in the open"? If so, how?
Yes, I went through the video twice and there is no explanation on how to do it.
your inputs should be consider by the photoshop i love the idea you share hope they do that too
From the perspective of server management, each cloud operation consumes a certain amount of bandwidth, data storage and computing power of the server, in other words, if an operation can be done locally in most scenarios, local processing is generally given priority by default to reduce the resources consumed by cloud services.
I assume that Adobe is deliberately trying to prevent "service abuse" by increasing the manual operation steps by default, to extend the time interval to avoid DDoS from a constant influx of server requests.
I had assumed the same as well
My great master 👉 unmesh dinda ❤️✨
where can I find this Device/Cloud setting for "Select Subject"?
The difference in the details of the har selection could have beed due to any compression during image upload to the cloud
big fan
Brother, i have doubt about uploading ,when iam uploading my photos are looking normal in social media .when I check other professional photographers in there picture there is some crispynes and glossyness . How to edit like that , please tell me about that .
Thank you brother
Not a fan of on the cloud processing. Just creates all sorts of potential issues if your doing work from a location with poor or no internet connection. They should have the ability to do the same processing locally even it takes a while. Plus what else are they doing with your images?
If we compare these two selection options to the Select Subject on previous versions of Photoshop, do we see that the local option is comparable? It kind of looked like it was worse than normal on these samples
hi, i have a problem in photoshop 23 i can't write in arabic when i try to change in preferences its showing { Unified Text Engine } i hope you can help me, thanks for wonderful videos, love from Great Poland
If I subscribe to your PiXimperfect Compositing plugin, does that single subscription cover installation on BOTH my Mac Pro and MacBookPro if I am only using one machine at a time?
Same question if I buy the perpetual license?
One license works on two devices at a time. If you have a third device or switch to another device, you can deactivate and activate your previous license to easily accommodate it. If you need more help, please reach out to support@picture-instruments.com.
@@PiXimperfect Great, I will sign up tonight!

@piximperfect, I need help, I've few last photos of my father, who died in May 2020, and I want a big framed photo, but before that I want garland to be removed from him, how can I do that?
How i can enable the cloud in ps 21? In don’t see the check who indicated it … please help me
I never even noticed that dropdown.
If it goes to the cloud then is there a chance that it will be viewed by strangers?
I mean, let's say I'm working on a private project, so it's like I'm uploading a normal image to the cloud? Or is it saved from the AI pool?....
“Cloud” is a fancy word for “someone else’s computer”
this new feature makes me think that in the not too distant future there will be the option to "select selectively" via ai. Let me explain: instead of a selector of generic subjects, you can verbally describe what to select. "select jar", "select cat" etc...
I would love to see a new green screen removal tutorial.
Can we please have a video where you explain about all of your plugin products?...
Wow I never notice this option "cloud"
My only question is about your pc specifications plese answer it🤔🤔🤔
Except this everything as always superbly fantastic 💯💯 👌😅😅
Great work again bro…
Yes, we need two buttons! It's a bit clunky right now.
I dont have "select subjekt" option in my upper bar - and I have "photographer" profilen activated. Why do you have?
hey)
please, make a tutor how to make photo quality like CCTV camera. I tryed many ways, but no one of them gives desired result :((
all hopes for you
Unmesh, where have you been? Feel like we've not seen you for ages!
I've set my selection to be cloud based as my default. In my own experience the cloud version is consistently better.
Why there's still no .GIIF format ready for dynamic image display without any clicking? If they fear infinity loops or sth - make close every loop with sth+sth clicked.
I have a suspicion that Adobe wants to force users more and more into the cloud. Computers today have enough computing power that such operations would not need to be done in the cloud, but can take place on the device.
How to install creative cloud in windows 11?
The reason if resets to device probably isn’t a UX decision. The reason they do this is to lessen the load on their cloud computing centers, which are extremely expensive.
Hey,
The link to your plugin doesnt work
Little Asian wizard! :D
How to use Addobe photoshop...???
