My network connection issues were due to the server I was using for Twitch. Fun Fact: if you use a VPN, you have to use a server that matches the location your VPN gives to you. Twitch Test revealed this info to me and I'm glad I watched this video to figure that out. My stream is as smooth as EVER!! THANK YOU!!
2021 update: the fix for the networking issue with dropped frames legit works bud. I've been streaming with an ethernet connection of up to 200Mbps, and had my OBS studio set to a bitrate of 6000 Kbps. Was experiencing about a 10% dropped frame rate on a regular basis, changed to a 4800 Kbps rate and we are absolutely solid now. Big ups \m/
I freaking love you! I've been trying to fix this for 3 weeks I've done multiple 24 hr days trying to figure this out, hour long conversations over the phone that literally got me no where but back to my desk lmao
MY GUY!!! 2 WHOLE YEARS LATER! By far the most useful video on this subject!!! I just started streaming recently I’ve been getting extremely frustrated on my journey because of dropped frames. Everytime it happened I would stop my stream watch some RUclips tweak obs settings how MAJORITY of everyone on RUclips has been recommending to no avail. Thank you very very much😭🤧 so so NUTTY!!!
Wonderful. Thanks!. By the way, for any nvidia user: You can cap your framerate inside the Nvidia Control Panel, in the "Control 3D Settings>Global Settings>Max Frame Rate".
fantastic video, learned a ton. was unfortunately unable to fix my dropping bitrate issue at this time. i will come back when i find the fix. only thing that seems to show up is rendering lag but very rarely. i do notice the bitrate constantly moving and dropping to 0. constantly having lag. all temps below 58c Setup/network info: i710700k(nzxt x53 attached) zotac 3080ti asus z490 prime-a gskill ddr4 cl16 3200 obs studio set to 8k bitrate Bandwidth via twitch test 10k+ 5ms RTT quality 100 fios gigabit internet with provided router(all reset and tested, on cat6 ethernet) updated drivers(no fix) found network dropping to 0 on task manager in quick intervals performed a ping test on cmd and found allok checked network with (ipconfig /all) found all ok checked another hardware computer that was in use and found no drops on that pc with separate hardwire going to get a new cable as i believe the cat6 i have is a cheapo one and not "real". although i will try my pc in that room on that cable just to be sure RESOLVED: ended up installing a newer and proper cable, found this was able to raise my ethernets send and receive numbers. although what i ended up now seeing for the first time was my ethernet completely dropping off of task manager and sometimes in windows networking window. with this information i ended up trying to disable certain properties within the network adapter, with little to no resolve. Finally i ended up coming across was a simple "network reset" button under the "status" tab of windows "network and internet" all the way at the bottom, it will be highlighted. performing this step ended up resolving everything. learned a lot in the process though so im glad. 70%+ increase in speeds and 0 drops from the ethernet(you will see some send/receive date drop i think this is normal?, but ethernet will not drop out at all now) simply from running a new cable and this network reset button fix. if only i had in the past scrolled down under the status tab further i would have seen this simple fix lmao. But thanks for the great info from this video, learned a ton!
Your videos are all I wanted by a youtuber to drag my attention : right to the point, clear, fast, good attitude. Keep up the good work and thanks for the content!
Thank you! Had weird short stutter each 4-5s with the new Ryzen 3900X. Capping my fps to 60-90 depending on the game solved the issue. Now i can game and stream @ 1080p 60fps 6k medium every game i want. :) Thank you!
He is pretty good at the delivery and entertaining AF, and solely on that he gets sub right away, but the usefulness of the info, he is next level! Agree he ahould have tons more, views, likes, etc
Sir, I know this is a 2 year old video, but I would still like to thank you for telling me exactly what I needed help with. I followed the network error actions and instantly my stream looks as if it is done by a professional. Thank you so much
I understand that this is a 4 year video, but this aged well. I've been stressing all week about what my issues could be and nothing worked. Turns out I was having both networking & rendering issues...was about to pull the trigger on a 2nd PC/laptop until I decided to dive deep into your channel. Thanks again nutty! I'm on a tight budget atm, but I'll support you anyway I can until I get back on my feet!
This is great. Not just a video about changing numbers and checking your network connection. I have the fastest connection that's possible in my area and that is meaningless when dealing with a twitch stream. From your video I now know why. Thanks for posting this years ago lol
I mean this from the bottom of my heart. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This video was so informative. I found your content today and have been non-stop watching your vids for any and all tips.
Watched so many vids but your thorough detailed insight helped much.the twitch test was the banger for me abd it worked now i have a smooth stream which i never knew could be done. Thanks a lot ✨
i can only get 720 @30 fps but by moving up my preset all the way it looks really crisp and clear now. i have a 12th gen /3080 strix so the issue has to be with my service provider which are coming out tommorrow but atleast now i can stream.. thanks man the best video out there on lag and stutter frames.. thanks man!!!
Was having a lot of rendering lag with FFXIV streaming. Changing from borderless window to fullscreen reduced a lot of it. Should work for other games too. EDIT: RUN OBS AS AN ADMIN. Solved the problem too, i can even run my games as borderless window again Great video btw, helped me realize the cause of my problems =)
For some people, for games like Apex, Running OBS as Administrator due to how Windows 10 works, helped allot too or has stopped dropped frames/rendering lag completely~
Great video Nutella. Information was well presented and I was impressed how detailed, accurate and thorough you were. Thank you for suggesting people open their Task Manager as well. Most think that the CPU % displayed in OBS is an accurate reading. The only thing I can think of to add on to this would be to make a brief mention about how "Rescale Output" in the Output tab for x264 is different from the "Output (Scaled) Resolution" setting in the Video tab. It's not that important, but I still mention it whenever I'm helping others as well. Keep up the great work, thanks for helping the community out.
A year later and this guide made my crappy stream absolutely better. I’m still playing around with some settings but from where I was to where I am now is amazing
Finaly a video that i can use... i did the test on europe that was not that bad. But then i did go to Asia and they got the best so i choose Asia in OBS. I also installed the Rivatuner and put it on 60 like u did and i tested my obs with a game, my frames dropped only 3 the rest was stable and no problem. your the only one that makes good video's about this stuff. Thnks for this
I've been searching for a video that explains how to fix my dropper frames because of my internet. For some reason, my upload speed on twitch test is at about 9000 kbps at best, but when I put 3000 or 2500 for example, I still get a lot of dropped frames. Now I know it's my ips problem. Thanks bro!
I had rendering lag and nothing worked until I tried running OBS as administrator, saved my life. just have to boot it as admin which you can enable as a propery option.. saves me a click everytime
Literally this man deserves the world. Describes everything perfectly and I learnt some things from this as I’m new to streaming from pc so great job! 👍
well I found out my fortnite settings were the problem. I had graphics low already but there was a lot of extra fancy options that had my gpu usage at 99 percent. switched a couple things off and now my frames are stable and I am down about 50 percent usage. the main thing that helped me here was your tip about the task manager showing how hard my pc is working. thank you !!
Easily the most comprehensive video on this issue. If I found it earlier, I would've spent way less time fiddling around knowing that I just needed a second PC to stream the way I wanted to with my current hardware without getting a lower res monitor or bringing my game settings and frame rate way down. Rendering lag was my issue, and scaling down from a 4K display + using a Brio at 60FPS was my issue, even with a 2080 Ti. As you alluded to, most of the info I was finding on the interwebs was completely wrong for my situation. Fast forward to today, that old 2080 Ti and 3950X CPU are in a streaming PC and I have a 3090 + 5950X in my main rig now. Now I am waiting on a solution to clone my display with HDR active to capture HDR content on my streaming PC, which currently cannot be done.
im a beginner in streaming. AND EVERY VIDEOS IN YOUR CHANNEL IS VERY INFORMATIVE compare to other TUTORIALS. So glad I stumbled on your channel before. :D
Man. I'm really happy to find your videos. It does fullfill a gap other videos of other channels were making me crazy. And your way to teach and make laughs is very fresh. Thanks.
Wow, very insightful! I learned a lot. Including the fact that I need to contact ISP, because despite having perfect connection to twitch servers, I still get bitrate spikes that drop frames regardless of hardware intensity. Thanks for helping me narrow it down at the very least
Thank you for making this video. I really needed help and just went through dead live streams like 3 times tonight. Total pain the the rear to deal with. I am using streamlabs obs due to the setup. I don't know how to transfer my setting for the subscribers and so on to obs. Anyway, you now have a new subscriber and a like. I will be streaming tomorrow at 12pm eastern time as well as 7pm eastern time and I really hope this works out for me and I also hope it works for everyone looking for a fix to this streaming issue.... stay safe.
wtf! I finished watching this whole video without skipping! And the funny thing is, I already know this hacks... I just enjoy how you deliver these information so organized and detailed. Great job all the way nutty! 😉 Thank you!
I had problems for a few streams now and this was the only video that helped me. Can finally stream again thanks so so much. (Even though I'm one year late xD )
So first of all I’d like to say you helped me fix about 99% of my issues so big thanks bro! Now I’m having a weird one, I have no more dropped frames, no more skipped frames, my CPU usage is down to about 10% but for some reason my kB/s is always fluctuating going from 4-6000 all the way to maybe 400 or even 200! Don’t get this one and not sure if it’s an ISP thing
After reading up on a book about the inner workings on network eco system. One idea that stuck to me the most wast having more then one point off access. After that I decided put the mesh wifi router system in the network and holy upload and download doubled.
What would you think if I said that I get lags at really specific part of a game (i.e. menu, cinematics, etc) but during the game everything runs smooth. In which category will that fall? Tried almost everything but it keeps happening so I ran out of ideas. BTW great videos man
Well done Nutty... Very informative. The issue I have here is connected with dropped frames and I dont stream on twith but a customized server (rtmp). What platform will you suggest I use to identify my upload speed as twitchtest isnt working for the key? Thank you
I am so happy found this video I had no idea that gpu was so important this fixed all of my issues you are extreme
THANK YOU!!
I have to say this video was quite informative, much more detail than other Tutorials/troubleshooting videos.

fantastic video, learned a ton. was unfortunately unable to fix my dropping bitrate issue at this time. i will come back when i find the fix.
only thing that seems to show up is rendering lag but very rarely. i do notice the bitrate constantly moving and dropping to 0. constantly having lag. all temps below 58c
Setup/network info:
i710700k(nzxt x53 attached)
zotac 3080ti
asus z490 prime-a
gskill ddr4 cl16 3200
obs studio set to 8k bitrate
Bandwidth via twitch test 10k+ 5ms RTT quality 100
fios gigabit internet with provided router(all reset and tested, on cat6 ethernet)
updated drivers(no fix)
found network dropping to 0 on task manager in quick intervals
performed a ping test on cmd and found allok
checked network with (ipconfig /all) found all ok
checked another hardware computer that was in use and found no drops on that pc with separate hardwire
going to get a new cable as i believe the cat6 i have is a cheapo one and not "real". although i will try my pc in that room on that cable just to be sure
RESOLVED:
ended up installing a newer and proper cable, found this was able to raise my ethernets send and receive numbers. although what i ended up now seeing for the first time was my ethernet completely dropping off of task manager and sometimes in windows networking window. with this information i ended up trying to disable certain properties within the network adapter, with little to no resolve.

2 year old video and still better than any recently made video.
Your videos are all I wanted by a youtuber to drag my attention : right to the point, clear, fast, good attitude. Keep up the good work and thanks for the content!
This has been my go to video for OBS performance troubleshooting. Very informative and organized.
"I made this video. How do you think I feel?"
Thank you! Had weird short stutter each 4-5s with the new Ryzen 3900X. Capping my fps to 60-90 depending on the game solved the issue. Now i can game and stream @ 1080p 60fps 6k medium every game i want. :) Thank you!
I don't know why People are not watching your content. It's great and it will be a big help for streamers like me... subs to you bro and Godbless!
Reason is Bad Title. I searched for videos like this but this never showed up, someone sent me the link to watch.
He is pretty good at the delivery and entertaining AF, and solely on that he gets sub right away, but the usefulness of the info, he is next level! Agree he ahould have tons more, views, likes, etc
wow, this video is seriously a lifesaver, a few clicks and all my problems were fixed! this has saved me hours of frustration and tears.

Manually changing the server fixed my dropped frames issue. Thanks a bunch
Nutty, you're the best, man. Solid tips right there. Prolly one of the best and simple explanations about framedrops for OBS. Keep up the good work.

What would you think if I said that I get lags at really specific part of a game (i.e. menu, cinematics, etc) but during the game everything runs smooth. In which category will that fall? Tried almost everything but it keeps happening so I ran out of ideas.
BTW great videos man
Thank you so mutch for this video brooo
Well done Nutty... Very informative.
The issue I have here is connected with dropped frames and I dont stream on twith but a customized server (rtmp). What platform will you suggest I use to identify my upload speed as twitchtest isnt working for the key? Thank you
