When you hear her talk wuth her real voice you suddenly realize just what a wonderful actress she is and how brilliantly she created the character of Edith.
It's interesting to watch the first few episodes of season 1. He voice was at this pitch and she was more of a "wise crack" to Archie. As episodes progressed she became more of the "ding bat".
Watching her here as I watch an episode of all in the family. It's a no brainer that she won. Her transformation into edith is downright astonishing and a huge credit to her talent.
Jean Stapleton was picked to play the Mom of the kid who watched a ton of TV in the movie Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Instead, she turned it down to do this new TV show called All in the Family in hopes of making it a Hit! Well, she did just that. She was such a great actress and great person too!

The only actor/actress I can think of who can compare to Jean Stapleton and Carroll O' Conner in "All in the Family," is Barbara Bel Geddes in "Dallas." Can't tell you how many times her amazing acting brought me to tears.
God I wish I could go back to the 70s. Less crime, classier people, much better music, and so many groundbreaking movies and TV shows. The worst thing about the 70s though........ NO VCRs!!! So if two shows you liked were on at the same time, you were screwed.
@@wotan10950 Well, Watergate was nothing compared to the Democrat Corruption today. The rest of the stuff, I was just too young to care. But I certainly agree with you on Vietnam. I couldn't imagine being drafted and forced to fight.
@@mrnocal It's amazing what they will show on TV now. If people living in the 70s got a look at the language and violence of TV shows today, they wouldn't believe it. And yet they can't use the N word as freely as they did in the 70s, because of our ridiculous PC culture that most people are sick of. Heck, they took the Dukes of Hazzard reruns off TV because they had a confederate flag on their car. That's probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
i agree about the music, but there was way more crime, do your research, FURTHERMORE one of the BIGGEST reasons people/america are as FUCKED as they are now is because of LIBERAL PROPAGANDA disguised as entertainment, which "all in the family" (and EVERY show produced by norman lear) was a PERFECT example of. in real life, "archie" was as liberal as meathead and EVERY storyline on that show pushed some liberal BULLSHIT agenda that people accept as fact today.
Changing one's birth name is disrespectful & unnecessary. This also applies to people who drop their last birth name. It's esp true if it's done for the anticipation of greater recognition & or financial gain. It's like selling-out, to perhaps an Agent or Studio Mogul, while at the same time being ashamed of their Father.
No it’s not. It’s a stage name which plenty of actors have. And she used her mother’s maiden name (Stapleton). She didn’t legally change her name. She just used it for SAG membership.
She’s a trained theatre actress where enunciation is imperative so that people in the 50th row of an auditorium can hear and understand every word. I’ll take that over mumbling actors today with their slang and poor enunciation and diction.
When you hear her talk wuth her real voice you suddenly realize just what a wonderful actress she is and how brilliantly she created the character of Edith.
edith was her real voice. she's ACTING here.

yeah, it's REALLY HARD to talk in a goofy voice! only like 9,999 out of 10,000 people can do that.

@marilynsnider8183. Absolutely!! Always!! ♥️
Jean Stapleton-a truly classy lady! R.I.P.!
Just what i was thinking ❤
What a great actress! The classy Jean created the ditzy Edith and made her completely believable. 🧡
Not a surprise, really. That the actress who created one of the sweetest characters in the history of television, would herself be that amazing.
Beautiful Spirit 💗😊 Thanks for the memories Jean 🙏
She was a brilliant actress. And I loved her and Carrol O'Connor on All in the Family.

John Terrino, way more!
So sad that a show that taught us all just how foolish bigotry is, by making us laugh at its foolishness, could no longer be done.
If All in the Family aired in these times it wouldn’t have made it past the first episode.
These were days when TV actors came from the theatre and had mad skills. SIT COM actors today are not skilled
