    what a difference with the actors back then and today. Today all we see is reality TV crap. The talent in tv entertainment has gone down. May she rest in peace.

    I think character actors are more interesting than movie stars any day

      I can agree with you, totally on this. Character actors put so much, more heart into their acting, to make up for not being mainstream. Of course peoples, not in tune (understanding), with TV/movies, haven't any concept of this, and that's why they are likely to chose movie actors first, and not even consider TV actors.

      Check Out her guest appearances on Scarecrow & Mrs. King she played a spy definitely a major difference from Edith.

    the actor who portrayed George was so good and so beloved by his fellow actors. Very sad he passed away during the show and was replaced by Gail Gordon, who later became Mr. Mooney on The Lucy Show.

      George Wilson was played by Joseph Kearns, who also appeared from time to time on a Lucille Ball show - "I Love Lucy."

    Can see that after All in the Family, from 1983 to 1998 (or so), she was perfectly cast theatrically to play Eleanor Roosevelt.

    I’m only 25 but when I was a kid my mom and I would sit in the school parking lot after dropping my brother off at school because I always had about a hour before my school started and we would always watch all in the family on the car DVD players! I don’t know why but I always loved old shows. Sandford and son, Alf, and all in the family were my favorites.

    What a talented character actress she was. I remember an episode of Scarecrow and Mrs King she was in. She played a spy and was brilliant.

    Saw this episode on prime video last night , it took me a while to figure out it might be jean Stapleton , but I didn't think at first she was that tall and I also thought her face was more round , until I found this again on RUclips the next day and saw the heading.

    I like the interview where she discusses Edith Bunker's death on the "Archive of American Television." That's when I saw what a serious actress (before they called the ladies actors) she was. I had only seen her in the Bunker role, throughout my childhood and then forever in syndication and she played her role so well, I thought she must have been somewhat of an airhead in real life. It's good to see her here playing the bossy housekeeper. What a fine actress she was. She gave 100% and she did so convincingly. God rest her soul.

    I remember having our milk delivered into a gray metal box on our stoop. We also paid a flat $10 monthly fee for local telephone calls and extra for long distance which was a few towns over.

    By her starchy characterization here (including her aspirated upper Puritan New England accent), had Jean Stapleton not been just age 16 in 1939, she'd have made an excellent alternative "Miss Gulch" and "Witch of the West" in the film Wizard of Oz.

    Jean Stapleton was such a talented & gifted actor. "Celebrrities" have absolutely no acting talent, or any talent at all, except with having a smart ass tongue! All anyone needs to do to "act" now a days is shake their "sexy" can and use swear word & vulgarity. And society wonders why the young people are growing up to be mouthy brats!
