    This is how I pressure tested the coolant system in my truck for leaks with a loan a tool. Same basic procedure for most vehicles... If you found this video helpful and would like to show your appreciation hit the ($Thanks) button to leave a tip :)

    Hey biker Mike in this video you say the a/c pipe connects in to the cooling system. This is incorrect that is the tube for the rear heater. FYI.

    How about testing the cap?

  • @rico16135

    What about hooking at all up and then turning the car on to let the car pressurize the system? Might some leaks only happen if the car is running? Like maybe a head gasket coolant leak into the cylinder chamber?

    • @thedon_8628
      @thedon_8628 2 года назад +2

      No, don't turn the car or truck on while the pressure tester is hooked up. The whole point of this test is to pressurize the cooling system WITHOUT HAVING THE VEHICLE RUNNING! When you hook up the pressure tester you are basically simulating that the vehicle is running because you are introducing pressure in the system the same way you would be if you were driving it. Some leaks are so small and hard to find because they don't leak unless there is pressure in the system when you are driving. Obviously it's impossible to check for a leak while you are driving. That's why this pressure tester tool is the answer. You will be able to add pressure to the system while it's cold and safe to work on and then find the leak which should turn up somewhere.

    Question.. So you checked for leak and found none , but u didn’t say if your truck is loosing antifreeze or what .. so if still using antifreeze , now what ?? I have same problem 2001 Silverado 5.3 motor 230,000 miles ....

    Next time you do a pressure test video you should say what number adapter you are using

    • @thedon_8628
      @thedon_8628 2 года назад +1

      Or... figure it out yourself. I'm sure he didn't know what number it was right out of the gate. Start threading different adapters on until one fits. Not that difficult.

    my 2005 GMC Diesel 6.6 L the dealership found 2 leaks, coolant leaking from oil cooler which is part of the oil filter housing it go's into the block $$$ 450.00 just for the part wow, and 2 thermostats junk , and fuel filter housing cracked and leaking, and coolant recovery tank was cracked leaking , but i think that was a big lie because never had a leak up there ever.. but yes the oil filter housing was a big leak every day... i had other problems with this GMC. intercooler leak $1500.00 and water pump junk $1100.00 and axle seals leaking. the big one was rear differental blew apart, i did the whole job saved at least $1200 i got a use new carrier with new bearings and use gears that had no more then 5K on them from a off road company some guy needed to pump up his gears and owner bought his old gears. it is called Border Parts in spring valley Calif. they have a large wear house just full of parts with great prices i paid $1000 for everthing to repair the rear end... seals new bearing sweet deal i have done 7 of these no problems yet Haha... oh another big problem i have had is only the front right side wheel bearing 3 times failed for i have 36x12'' tires i think is the problem and both front tie rods broke and i installed large big ones from Off Road Wearhouse company.. and power steering unit was replaced it was junk. and all the front end gromet's replaced . and all front end ball joints junk replaced. and 2 sets of CV axles. now i have another coolant leak nice... oil light came on low oil presser? dealership found a wire grounded out on the left bank of block right at motor mount rubbing on mount steel. the poor guy had to remove all the harness and put it on a bench before he could find where it was broken??? i did change the sensor no luck on that replacement. it was a shorted out wire $$$$ wow, i have a oil leak at rear left side and dealership had truck 3 days and could not fine leak even with using a dye and checking with a black light ??? no charge on that one 3 days ??? i have spent a ton of money on this GMC and just love this truck to no end... oh well its a bad ass truck and would do it all over again .... Haha.. great engine and tranny no problems yet...

      Wow thats alot of repairs. I've had my share as well.. two cracked heads, water pump, power steering pump, AC compressor, inner tie rods, fuel lines and pump, brake lines, etc.. etc... Have had it for 11years now. Next ruck will be 3/4 Diesel either GM or RAM. Cant beat the Diesels for towing and 1/2 tons aren't very capable at all really.

      @@bikermike yep just fix a bad coolant leak. it was a 4'' 3/8' hose on top of diesel motor that just was old and blew open and was pumping out coolant like crazy. not to hard to fine and easy to replace... i had the u-bolts loosen up all the time on rear end housing, had to check it all the time. but they are good now... power steering lines had to be replaced too.. i am glad i am not the only one that had a lot of problems... so sorry to hear about your fuel pump going out. and the A/C compressor to.. the head crack would of killed me.. but i met a guy that pulled out the diesel engine and sent it back east from calif to have it rebuilt. and he did the install... just wow that was a lot of work ....

    This is a very informative video. We have a 1999 GMC Sierra and the hubby does the repairs. We do refer to RUclips videos when needed. This should be helpful to someone doing the same thing to their vehicle. Great tutorial Mike. Take care-Debbie

    What if you don’t have any pressure and no cracks in the coolant reservoir?

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  4 года назад

      Make sure the cap and hose is sealing properly and the pump is pushing air in. Spray some soapy water on every thing to look for leaks. It should hold some pressure for a bit.

    • @rompeculos9943
      @rompeculos9943 4 года назад

      biker mike everything is sealed and literally no pressure whatsoever. I sprayed soapy water too and can’t find any leaks due to no pressure at all

    • @rompeculos9943
      @rompeculos9943 4 года назад

      biker mike checked the pump and it’s good I’m guessing either a bad radiator even tho the radiator is not leaking maybe plugged? Or a small leak in the heads

    The given address on Amazon is not valid. Probably they don't have that product anymore, but thank you for the film, I'll buy a similar to the shown. I have a small leak on 2003 Chevy Cavalier, drips from the passenger side.

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  3 года назад

      Thanks, I added in a similar one. Hopefully you find your leak. If its an external leak some die and a detection kit can help pin point it.

    #5 says for BMW. I rented the same exact model # pump kit. For GM trucks it's #23 or #26. For gm in general it's #3, #15, #24 and #25.

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  6 лет назад

      Its been awhile since I did this but I think there is only 22 adapters in the kit though. The orange #5 fit and sealed so that is the one I chose. Looking at it now #3 may well be the one to use. but not 15 for sure. and the other ones?

    So how do you check for the head gasket ? I don't believe you can with soapy water for that, do you ?

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  4 года назад

      Pressure test for a loss of pressure and if there is coolant consumption with no external leaks.

  • @screamingeagle5776

    Biker mike- don't you have to fill the tank full of water? Like in Radiators? To check for leaks?

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  6 лет назад

      Pressure test with proper coolant level in system, if pressure drops over time then check to determine source of leak/leaks. The pressure test will test the entire coolant system radiator, pump, hoses etc....

    Hey Mike, i was leaking coolant but didnt know from where. I rented the same pressure tester, but as soon as I tried pumping air into the expansion tank (as in your video) the air was coming right out of the bottom of the tank and would not hold any pressure whatsoever. Do you agree that it is a bad expansion tank??

    • @bikermike
      @bikermike  6 лет назад +1

      peterhawth it sounds like it. Spray the outside of tank with soapy water to pinpoint it. Iam assuming it’s empty of coolant.
