Another shadow strike upgrade you should get is the shadow pull(I think that’s what it’s called). What I do with it is I get up on a tower or something high and pull the captain up to isolate him from the grunts, making him easier to kill.
This is a really powerful tactic. I stopped using it tho cos it feels a bit cheesy

I was at my last chance fighting a lvl 63 regent trying to take back a fort after like a 10 minute fight and some guy just went in and killed him at 30% health somehow, needlessly to say he's been the new regent since

That sounds like forthog. If you read the lore on him it says he was a team developer who died while creating SoW and they made him a character as a tribute. I thought it was an awesome idea. He's saved me 6 times now

Just thought I'd point out that the fighting pits are not the best way to level your orcs up. You have no control over the fight, and sometimes you get a epic or legendary that is a few levels ahead of whatever the set level is for the particular challenge level. Not to mention, I've seen guys 10 levels stronger who lost just because they got matched against a guy who hated fire. Instead, send your weak orc on an ambush against a high leveled orc, then interfere and kill the orc for them. I did this for one of my guys who was about level 30 against a level 60 and he gained 20 levels afterwords.
How to interfere in the ring war? I suppose you cannot do anything when the orcs are fighting in the ring.

The game is fantastic. Doesn´t feel like the microtransactions have a big impact on gameplay at all now. Also be sure to behead nasty captains. Had one bugger who got shamed, returned as the ´Unashamed´. Then proceeded to lose his arms etc. but still defied death 4 times. 10/10

It's true, the more I plaed the more weird stuff I encountered. My favourite was this one orc that got cleaved in half, beheaded and returned as 'The Machine' with pretty much all immunities. Took a long time but instantly made him overlord.
Yeah, the micros transaction system is definitely not necessary. You can play through the game at a completely normal pace.
The main downside tho is that loot boxes & microtransactions feel very artificial. Getting Orcs from lootboxes really breaks the immersion.
It does not do the game any favors.
Shamed a cap'n orc Mug , became ''Unashamed'' and legendary , was the only orc I saw as a legendary one (besides overlord) recruited him , made him my bodyguard , he betrayed me after a while , managed to kill me (was a scrub) , killed the overlord , became overlord , when I tried to capture the fort , he shot me once and like 80% percent of my health was gone plus curse damage , he never misses and no last chances , I still love this game

I have a seemly almost indestructible fortress
every one of my warchiefs have possessive master "becomes enraged when a body guard is attacked"
every captain has bloodlust "enraged when another orc is enraged around them "this also goes for your own enraged allies"
and it took a while but i spent like 300 hours or so just farming orcs in every area to get a nurnen force that has great strength, and fire/poison/curse master.
my nurnen army consists of half being slayers and the other half being beserkers
and every captain slot is taken by my army so all of nurnen is conquered :D
now i should say how many captains is on every warchief.
Warchief A: has 5 body guards
Warchief B: has 5 body guards
Warchief C: has 2 body guards
Warchief D: has 2 body guards
then the inner circle warchiefs
Warchief E: has 1 body guard
Warchief F: has 1 body guard
Overlord: has 3 body guards
"overlord is also possessive master btw"
the body guards that the overlord has are played a bit differently, one is a tank beserker. thickskin, but has mighty defenders. 2nd one is a great strength epic rage. so he can stay enraged and scare the living shit out of the opponent. and the 3rd one is a necromancer beserker that can raise the dead and the fallen captains.

one more thing, picture you're fighting my fortress capturing the A point. then one of my captains are attacked. the warchief will become enraged therefore signaling all of the bloodlust on the other 5 captains and then they all become enraged. its the same thing for capture point B aswell. you just gotta hope one of my body guards dont get hit, or else its gonna set off a chain reaction and rest in peace your captains and you

superxmario128 you can literally buy orcs to quickly upgrade your forces. The director even admitted the game was balanced without the boxes in mind, meaning they’re existence is game breaking.
And let’s not ignore the fact that this is a $60 game that has microtransactions heavily embedded into its single player experience.

Playing the game on nemesis difficulty.. the orcs don't wait for you to dominate they just attack mercilessly.. :D

Rashad Al-Sabban And they really are merciless too. Had times where I've taken a hit, and then about 5 more because they came before Talion had recovered from the first.
I'm absolutely LOVING nemesis difficulty. I do still think the game is relatively easy, so I hope that Monolith'll eventually develop a New game+ difficulty or just a higher difficulty in general. Maybe add options so you can disable branding orcs (of course you can choose to not brand orcs right now, but i feel like there's there a difference) and other options like that.
A Demented Fish some of the options can make the game even harder. The visual and sound prompts for counters etc for instance
Soo true nemesis is the way to go i went straight for that difficulty because i love a challenge and the way the adapt to your attacks makes you think of other ways to take out your enemy
Love the upgraded levels of the orcs based off of what you do but it would be nice to mention that they can not exceed you’re own level. Otherwise it won’t allow you to control them.
The nemesis system is absolute gold! Unique and well implemented!!!
Important tip for assaulting / defending fortresses:
If you find yourself faced with an enemy who is either the commander or tank class, either recruit them or shame them, do NOT try to kill them. Tanks have a second wind after being defeated, which can make killing them a real pain when you're trying to go for gold rating on online forts. Meanwhile commanders have a class ability that means that if they die, their nearby allies become enraged, making it very easy to get overwhelmed if the commander was in a big crowd when he died

I had a couple of blood brother orcs betraying me at the same time, I didn't kill them, I humiliated each one of then till lvl 5. One brother was mad, the other was still sane... I made them fight in the pitch against each other... The sane brother won, I execute him after. I think the message was sent to the other captains of my army.
I shamed mine down to Level 1, branded him, then sent him in the pits of champions.
Ok, my head is officially battered. Think I'll play some more and come back to this video. Amazing game btw!

The best thing about the shadow wars is recruiting enemy captains, warchiefs, and their bodyguards since they are usually around the same level as you are which would be 50+ by that point. They usually have some kind of perk like they don't give up or they aren't damaged by fire, arrows, frost, or poison

Use the white runes on the ring, they make enemies go up some levels when you dominate them, and it works with legendary quests, I’m lvl 41 and have the max white rune on the ring, caught a 35 he went to 41, I completed the quest :)

clearly this is playing on normal or easy because in nemesis holy shit! those orcs attack like 4 at a time, never just wait for you to dominate an orc or interrogate an orc and they fucking adapt! I LOVED THAT! you can never fight captains and warchiefs etc. the same way because they adapt to your combat style that thing just blew me away best game hands down

I hope the nemesis system is implemented in other games besides the middle earth series. It would be amazing.
I saw a clown trikster at one point. I have always hated clowns but I decided to give this one a chanse so I branded him and went after an uruk as a test. Turns out it was the clowns blood brother so they combine their forces and slaughters my ass. After that the clown betrayed the previous overlord, took over the place and became a fucking necromancer. This is why I hate clowns 10/10 would brand again!
One of my favorite perks is perfect counter (execution). You could kill and entire fortress full of orcs without moving an inch.
yeah, that with a perfect health gem on your sword, even if you're as good as dead, perfect block a couple enemies and you're top shape and good to go on fighting
there was even a challenge in minas ithil that asked you to get a combo of at least 30 i managed to get to 27, but got hit, then 28 bbut got hit. then again and again.. just block everyone and you get up there..takes kinda longer to wait for an attack versus attacking yourself but you wont get hit if you're always blocking everyone
pack master does work on currently mounted caragors too, they ditch their riders
How about the skill that lets you dom multiple followers by using focus? That's a really good one to turn the tide
Get the stealth chain skill too and combine it with shadow strike to take out 20 guys at once and maybe more is your elven ability prox

Nice "Advanced" Guide with most of the information aimed at people who have never played the game or can't read.
I was surprised how fun this game is
1- Worms are always scared of you, meaning they are always prone and can be stealth dominated instantly. No need to do a regular drain.
2- Captains can't level higher than Talion, the white gems are sort of useless in the ring slot and green gems have a much better value (a dead orc is a useless orc).
3- It's faster to level captains in Nemesis missions than the fight pits, especially if the orc is lower level than the one he is fighting. (ok this was still about point 2 but wtv :P)
4- Don't dismantle legendary gear unless you have the same piece with better bonuses (not levels, BONUSES) since you can level them up to level 60
5- Remember that only the main follower of a mission will gain levels, reinforcements will not gain any unless they kill another captain.
6- Bodyguards assigned to warchiefs are limited. The warchiefs online will only have two bodyguards so don't bother putting more on each warchiefs.
7- More important skill upgrades to get are the elementals upgrades to have better tools against captain weaknesses and Brutal Execution's Ceaseless Might (DOUBLE YOUR MIGHT!)
Hey guys and gals, I have some tips. To have you captains raise up by a substantial amount of levels, instead of having them grind in the fight pit, command them to attack other captains that are higher levels.
A level 36 vs a level 51 will give your captain a level boost like no other. In one fight (that you could just intervene and kill the enemy captain) has given me level increases that are like by 16 levels!
Also if you have fit pits available, win until you get into the champions fight pit (level 3 fight pit) and have your weak captains fight a champion and die by their hands and then turn them (assuming you’re at their level). If you’re not at their level to turn them but you like their traits? Shame them and then turn them. As you level up make sure to level them up as well Incase they gained a bad trait due to shaming.
GET LEVEL 5 WEALTH GEM ON RING. Brings up captains by 5 levels when recruiting. This makes fighting ambushes easier and also siege missions because those captains will be 5 levels above their former allies.
Lastly, this is a minor one. If you prefer to have your might built up Incase you need it. Get the upgrade (I can’t remember the name just now) that builds might when you brutalize enemy’s. This builds up might a little above half way (1/3 if you have the might upgrade that increases how much might you can build up) with just 1 orc!
Godamn it this game is SO fucking amazing and addicting. I cannot get enough of it
while doing online vendettas, make sure to take down all available captains in the area and all of those wealthy orcs in sight. killing them from the roof with a bow doesn't take much time and all the loot will be collected automatically when the vendetta is completed.
Dragon Song + Shadow Mount is OP
Observing duels between red enemy orc gives XP. Shaming gives XP. Gravewalker/brutal level up orcs really fast. Friendly orcs killing enemy captains give you XP. Grinding for white gems is easier and faster when riding caragor and using pounce/stealth kills. Reaching level 80 Talion is fast using above tips.
Shadow of mordor tip for shadow of war new players: If you want to advance your skills in combat let the uruks raise the alarms and keep fighting it will definitely make you a badass in the long run.
Dire caragor upgrade is a little slower, but turns wild caragors to your side while mounted.

First rpg that i've enjoyed to play, great mechanic, great combat,. I played rpg game once, the witcher 2 and i really dont understand how to play that game.

i havent had so much fun playing a game in years so to anyone who isnt gettimg it cuz of ntx, dont let that ruin it for you. simply dont get them & play single player. its a very fun game. 9/10 for me
"Advanced tips"
Aka what the tutorials tell you.
So I got a badass olog hai from a loot chest that I grinded for. Got him to level 31 by killing a fellow captain. He was unstoppable, come to find out it was his blood brother he killed under my control. So he betrays me and has iron will so I couldn’t get him back. Game basically said fuck you.
The 007 same thing happened to me! He did drop a purple item after I had to kill him though. But it was still sad 😢
Yes, break his mind over and over again and eventually his iron will will be gone. Basically create Reek from Game of Thrones. Then send him on missions and make sure he succeeds by intervening, then when he's tough enough send him to the fight pits to level him up more. He may lose his mind in the process, but he will be back under your control. Man playing this game makes me evil.

He will gain weaknesses as he gets shamed but he might lose them later on when he levels him up. But, the best thing to do, is to not send him against is BROTHER :p
The 007 LOL I feel your pain I had a legendary flip on me only to run away and go past my level so I couldn't recruit him so I shamed him only for him to rinse and repeat 4 times till I gave up and just killed him out right .
Fighting pits are actually highly ineffective. They sometimes die. The most effective way is to send them into a fight they can't possibly win (30 level higher captain) and then kill the captain for them. They will jump 20 or 25 levels quickly. You also have the possibility to dominate the threatened captain or make him run to use this trick again. Just send them up against each other if you have to. As long as you dominate him fast enough to run they should both be fine.

Tip always check if they have no chance it will save you if you know and try to recruit anyone possible if it's low level and you in late gain make him a maniac shame him then recruit
For Tip # 2. just an FYI If the Captain/Warcheif's 'gang' followers kill the enemy in the Pit, they will lose a huge chunk of levels, I don't know if they will happen to others but it happened to one of mine.
another good tip is to make sure you're always a higher level than your orcs if possible, since there's a higher chance of betrayal if they see you as weak.
IEMK dominated orcs can not exceed your level
Is it me or do the orcs / uruks / ologs get new armor / equipment when they get promoted?
When they go up tier lvl. Epic, legendary they have a chance for new equipment. Also if they are picked as overlord.

Love it.. so addicting but I’m a little confused. Do I have to kill all the captains ( the whole army screen before I can move on to the next story mission? I feel like I’ve only done maybe 3 missions and I’ve been slaying orcs for a while . I’m level 14. I k ow I’m doing some thing wrong.

In the quest menu there are tabs for story characters where you complete their story missions
Sometimes there's a prerequisite like taking over all the towers in an area etc but nothing heavy like taking out an entire army
That's mostly there to make things easier for you if you want to kill or dominate captains and war chiefs when you're invading
Look for Story quests on your map. You can't kill every orc captain on the map because every time a mission is completed, you die, or you advance time, new captains show up. Killing the entire army of your first couple fortresses is not the goal. Do story missions for the first act.
The reason I don't like the fight pits is cause if I lose I lose my favorite orcs... Rip Snafu the Bard 2017

You can pause and close the game before your orc actually dies . . that'll get you back to the last saved check point . . am not sure though, i never actually tried it . . i just think it should work.

I have a question I played the first one but it was only for a bit I was really emersed with the gameplay and story but this one way different with Different mechanics and such , as you go thru the story do you learn the game much quicker and pick up most of the games mechanics ?

If you play on the Nemesis difficulty the combat is gnarly. I used to dominate on Shadow of Mordor and I was just playing it the other day to refresh before playing the new one and I've been playing for 3 hours and I've already died 7 times. I NEVER died. This game is crazy.

Master Knife Yeah every time they kill you they get stronger. And they talk shit too. The Nemesis system is sick. If you like Shadow of Mordor definitely get Shadow of War after you finish the game.

Actually you're wrong, you can dismantle any item even if it's upgraded, on pc you click 2 as if to upgrade them and then 3 to dismantle, no idea how it works on console tho

Buying the game now has it come with All the DLC and no micro transactions! I loathe micro transactions but in all honesty, I would have given this game a pass because it is utterly perfect!
SOW is awesome, but I can't get beyond 2 hours of playing non-stop because I get so fatigued. *Everything's viciously fast paced.* I usually play Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen until about an hour later I'm recharged to return to SOW.
Savages are the best units for recruitment missions. They literally stomp any other unit. I'm talking about the gang units of course.
I think slayers are the best for 1v1's at the pit, followed by marksmen. Any unit that has a stun or a 3 hit ability is OP if they have fire or poison.
Although the Olog bosses are fantastic (the ones with a fire breathing weapons are the best) ranged bosses shit on them 7/10 times

Does anyone know how to use the DLC? I have DLC Orcs but so far I don't see them or how to use them at all. In up to chapter 2 where I took over my frist Castle, yet I still don't know how to use the DLC.

Go into the market , at the top u'll see the available boxes u can open to claim the items. But the dlc is basically four legendary orcs to add in your army, and they'll be available from ACT 2 only

It's absolutely amazing. The story is nothing special, kinda cliched and predictable, but the gameplay and the characters (mostly the orcs) are absolutely amazing. The graphics and Animations aren't all amazing, but it's great just walking around Mordor. It doesn't matter if you're just running around, executing orcs or assaulting fortresses, if you enjoy action, open-world games or like the world Tolkien's created, BUY THIS GAME.
P.S. It's super addictive and the loot boxes don't ruin the game at all, it's extremely well balanced
I dont understand this game. Am I not supposed to take over the first fort yet? I just got to the part were the wraith tells me to create an army, but I cant assault the fort

Anyone know how to upload a defense for assault players to attack? Is it automatic? X.x....i have looked everywhere. Its bummin me out

I think dominate is fairly underpowered. I kill mobs faster then recruiting them. Basically my Talion is as strong as half an Uruk army.
with talion's drake skills.. he could, single handed, beat all the white walkers , their army and the night king :P
honestly.. you can clear an entire fort and still keep your hp at 100% with eating archers :P
Adam Levi Tried soloing a fort with graug, summon body guard and sappers from legendary gear set. Used the caragor pens and drake meat to do it! So many things to do! :D
