I'm in the process of switching from an Amazon smart home to google, this was very helpful. The main reason I am getting rid of Amazon is it constantly advertises to you, giving you useless notifications .It's always telling me about sports teams even though I never watch sports and tried to turn it off or it tells me to buy stuff I might like because I bought other stuff like it. IF ANYONE is of the fence between google and Amazon, don't go to amazon.

I went with googles ecosystem. A 2nd Gen Nest hub on my nightstand. A nest mini right between my kitchen and living room (open floor design, makes it easy). Google Nest thermostat (not Learning or the E). And a bunch of smart switches, smart dimmer switches, smart LED/RGB bulbs in certain areas and some smart mini plugs for small appliances. Makes my life so easy. All i need is my cameras and ring doorbell for security!
Edit: I also have an Alexa, but I haven’t used that thing in years. Google was an easy choice for me to make. Hardcore Apple guy as well. Can’t justify Apples prices for (imo) the worst AI for an ecosystem though. To each their own!

I am a Samsung phone user so I would like to have all of my smart devices to sync together in SmartThings and Google Home. At first, I am more on Google Home but I realized that it is just Voice-activated smart devices, not exactly smart. With Samsung SmartThings with the whole Samsung ecosystem. It is now smart enough to do lots of automation rather than just voice command.

Google in my opinion has the better assistant due to search ability. Siri is kinda the worst assistant, but HomeKit automations is superior in terms of customization. Alexa just has more resources and somewhere in the middle. I have all of them now for testing purposes as I gradually decide which system to use primary and which one just for extra supporting function. Thanks for the video

That system can't be superior if it doesn't allow a lot of different products. So with that being said, have to products that are on the market can't be used including a lot of the different products that we as people use around our houses. Example vacuum cameras, temperature control, light switch control, fan control, doorbell, motion sensors, hubs speakers and the list goes on. Apple only has a very small list of a few things that it can actually utilize on top of that in a different categories. It may only be like one or two items out of the 70 items that any other ecosystem utilizes

Hi, I have a question. If you have two Google Nest Mini, will they both respond when you say "Hey, Google"? If they do, would that be a problem? I've already had one, and I'm considering buying another, so I'm just curious.

I use homeassistant, so I can buy any smarthome tech and connect them together and do automations. Then I just expose all devices I like to be able to control to Google home and can be controlled from there.

Where Google falls short is with their notifications. Between lack of custom notification sounds on your phone and the cool off period between recorded events. If you configure notifications for your doorbell, you will get the standard iPhone notification sound (along with the banner, if it is also configured) if sound is turned on for Notifications for the Google Home app on your phone. You cannot configure the sound. I can’t understand why Google lacks with these features. You’re better off with the ring doorbell.

Thanks for the video, I'm also mainly on the Google Ecosystem with Nest cameras and Google Home, but disappointed that Google is partnering with ADT because the ADT Self Setup is not very feature rich. They don't have glass breaking sensors and their app software is buggy. I'm looking for a security system that integrates well with Nest.

Have the regular size display nest in kitchen, small ones in bathroom, and bedroom. They are great! I just added a camera for security and keep an eye on dog while at work. I'm planning on added Google outdoor cameras and doorbell soon too. I'd like to get lights...any good brands I should look at?

You could go for smart switches instead of bulbs. I have the Lutron Caseta switches. If you want to change the color, and go the bulb route, I like the Phillips Hue. Pricey, but well worth it.

    Google home support team:
Will you please support the newer nest cameras on the nest app rather than the google home app? The nest app is far superior and I would like all my cameras on the same app rather than needing to view the newer one on the awful google home app.

The reason i dont want to invest more in my google home smart home is that they have not changed the automations since i bought my first product 5 years ago. They basically only have automations based on the clock and your voice.

I have had Google as my home automation for several years. When we first got the devices, it seemed to work perfectly. over the years it has become progressively more and more retarded. To the point now it rarely even can understand when I tell it to turn off a light. My parents have the Amazon eco system and I find that to be no better. The state of home automation has degraded to a point where I wonder if it is even a viable alternative to flicking a switch on the wall.

why don't you just use Home Assistant exclusively?
It integrates with everything. It seems you're wasting your time and with your skills you should be able to integrate everything with HA and also include things like, public transport data for your area using APIs, security camera streams, multiple light vendors working together, build your own security system. Honestly, you can do everything on it. Using Apple or Google or any other non self hosted system is just asking for trouble.
