      Google has removed yet another essential feature from its Hub/Nest device. Previously, if you connected external BT speakers to the Hub, it would play media (music etc.) on the BT speakers, but the Assistant would respond through the built in Hub /speaker. This is reflected in Google's own support documents:
      Google Nest Help - Help Center, where it says:
      "Note: All media playback will play on the external speaker that’s paired with the Google Nest or Home device. Alarms, timers and Google Assistant's responses will play on your Google Nest or Home device."
      This worked well, and in my case it was essential to my audio set up, as I prefer to power off my receiver/amp when not playing music, but the BT stays connected because it is a separately powered external receiver that passes the audio to my stereo and its connected speakers. I also imagine that if you used BT headphones with the Hub you would still want the ability for other users to communicate with the Hub while you were listening to music. This is no longer possible. Both media AND Assistant responses are coming through whichever speaker has been set to default. This means if I turn off my stereo, I no longer hear verbal responses from my Hub.
      It is such a shame that Google has cut back the abilities of the Hub instead of expanding them. A few years back they eliminated the ability to cast music to the hub from an Android phone. The motion sensing feature had such potential (it could have expanded to volume control, for example). Very sad!

    In our bedroom we use the Pixel Tablet with the speaker dock. In our living area the Alexa Echo 15.

    Nice review, I love the sunrise alarm on the nest but I wish there was a full screen clock that showed the day and the date instead of the current temperature. My other request would be to be able to turn off the alarm for today from your phone. Currently, all you can do is to delete your beautiful sunrise alarm so that you have to recreate it.

    All I ever really use it for to check weather and set alarms or reminders. Integration with Smartlife/Tuya smart devices is poor. Whether it is a Nest Hub issue or Smartlife implementation of Google assistant compatibility is uncertain.

    Reading more into the google framework and trying to understand it. What you are saying is if i buy the Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen and then try and pair it with loads of google nest mini's. And then i try and play youtube through it. It will charge me a premium to do this? As in the only way it could work is if you subcribe to youtube premium?
    Essentially I planned to buy the 2nd Gen Hub and then lots of minis for each room. But if i have to subscribe i am not interested in the product.

    • @ReaganVFilms
      @ReaganVFilms  10 месяцев назад

      If you will be playing it through RUclips (just youtube itself) it will only play simultaneously only on one device. However if it’ll be for multiple speakers you will need to subscribe to RUclips Premium for RUclips Music.

      I still use the 1st gen nest hub and 2nd gen nest hub. I find it very useful everyday in my two story home because with the broadcast feature I don't have to yell to tell everyone in my home to meet in one spot or it's dinner time. So it definitely still has a use today in 2023. Another thing is like turning on lights or it announcing who is at the front door whenever the button is pressed to save you some time.

    Nice review bro. Even though my native language is not supported I really like google products. And there is one thing I wanna ask you. There is an option which you may pair two nest speakers to play stereo. I have a nest speaker and now I just bought a nest hub 2nd gen. Is there an option to play stereo sound with both nest spkr and nest hub? Thanks.

    • @ReaganVFilms
      @ReaganVFilms  10 месяцев назад +1

      There is an option to pair stereo sound with bost the nest speaker and nest hub by creating a group in the Google Home app. However beware some streaming services like RUclips may only allow you to do it if you have RUclips premium. In my experience Spotify allows you to pair them without a live (paying) subscription.

    I have an Echo Show display and it bothers me that the clock is set in the bottom corner and can't be moved to middle or top and it is blocked by my bed so I cant see the time. I see on your video a screen where the clock is also on the bottom left(small) and also see it in the middle(big). Can the clock be set as the "default position" always in the middle or at one of the top corners.

      1. Say, "Go to settings," or swipe down from the top of your echo’s screen and select Settings
      2. Select Home & Clock, then select Clock & Photo Display.
      3. On the Clock & Photo Display screen, select a category in the list to see the clock face options available.
      4. Select Edit to choose different colors or display styles. To keep the changes you made to a clock face design, select Save.
      Find your saved custom clock face designs later in Recent Clocks.

    • @ReaganVFilms
      @ReaganVFilms  11 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t see much lag time with live camera feeds with Nest Cameras (like the doorbell) being shown on the Nest display.
      What I found with the Echo Show or any Echo device really is that the delay shown is because of it’s third party alignment between companies. (Device to Nest to Amazon to You then Amazon to Nest to Device and if one is slow then it causes an entire delay chain).

      You can connect it to the calendar using the Google Home app. Matter is basically a universal feature being applied to the new smart home devices being released. So let's say Ring goes out of business, with Matter will continue to work with the rest of your smart home devices even if Ring's servers are no longer in use.

    Your video is very informational pertaining to some features that I was not aware of. However, I have been nudged by Google to sign up for a trial of the Google Home Nest Aware via my Google Home Next Max. It would cost me $80 per year. But, I can't figure out how to use this costly feature and I am not getting any help via Google's website, etc. What are your thoughts on this and would you know how I'd set this up to actually make $80 per year worth it? I'd like to record events when I am not home, but again, can't figure out the procedure for this. Looking forward to your help on this!

    • @ReaganVFilms
      @ReaganVFilms  Год назад

      I have used this subscription for a year now. The Google Nest Aware subscription allows you to use visitor announcements when someone is at the front door with their name through facial recognition and other nest security cameras. This subscription with a Google Assistant notifies you if there is glass breaking, smoke alarms going off, more through the Google Home app. In my opinion, in order to make this $80/yr worth it, use every feature possible. I'll try to make a video on this because there is a lot of things you can do with the Nest Aware subscription.
      By the way, with the nest aware subscription, you can add as many devices as you want to the subscription.

      The second generation is still good in 2023 and 2024. Honestly I think it's best if you go with the Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen because there are no advertisements on the screen, you have the broadcast feature, and it can hear you from far away still.
      I have both the Echo Dot and my uncle has the Echo Show and in my opinion I'm still sticking to the Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen. If you want I would wait until the end of May 2024 for the Google Nest Hub 3rd Gen if they really are coming out with a 3rd gen.

    Someone would play music on Google Play Music if they use RUclips a ton for various purposes and hate ads, so pay for RUclips Premium to avoid them because this is their priority.
    Then since they pay for that already, might as well use it for music, especially if they are not incredibly into music.
    In this reasonable circumstance and life preference, the real question is why in the world would someone pay to avoid ads on RUclips and pay again to avoid ads on Spotify, when music simply isn't very important and they have it all already?

      While at the moment this is true, it looks like Google is in the works to make it matter compatible.
      blog.google/products/google-nest/new-in-google-home-io22/
      “To help you get ready for Matter, we’ll update many Google Nest devices to be Matter controllers. This will let you connect all your Matter-enabled devices to Google Home, and control them both locally and remotely with the Google Home app, smart home controls on your Android phone or Google Assistant. Matter controllers will include the original Google Home speaker, Google Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Hub (1st and 2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Audio and Nest Wifi.
      Meanwhile, Nest Wifi, Nest Hub Max and Nest Hub (2nd gen) will also serve as Thread border routers, allowing you to connect devices built with Thread - like backyard lights that need long-range connectivity - to your home network.”
