- We have learned that the TANK 300 can master Loveday 4x4 Park and it did a pretty good job tackling the rock climbs in Sydney. What I have really wanted to know, is a GWM TANK any good on sand? In this video we put it up against my favourite vehicle to hit the dunes in, a Y62 Patrol.
We’re also at one of my favourite 4x4 destinations call Dorado Downs, this will be the perfect place to test the TANK!!

TheTanks are impressive. I agree for the sake of clarity and equality it would have been good to see it go up after the tracks were chopped up, noting you mentioned it still did it fine.
There is certainly a weight advantage which makes it quite a fun and nimble performer. I guess long term durability of components will be the yest however glad you are doing the upfront testing 👌

Gosh your trip brought back my memories of Darado Downs from 2 decades ago. The first hill is still similar now and it was a bugger back then. Auto trans rule in the sand. Cheers

The Y62 sound fantastic but the tanks half the price and looks to be just as capable. If I wanted to tow a van Y62 but weekend away off roaring the tank is just looking better and better the more I see it. Very impressed

I have noticed you have a new centre stack (Head Unit) in your patrol. It look like the 13 inch. How is it performing and do you recommend putting one in?

My R51 Pathfinder used to do the same thing on the gear shift when pushed hard.
It also would not hold 1st when I wanted it to and would refuse to manual shift in low range in certain circumstances.
It also used to cut power on long hills. I tried to get up that last big hill on the Tom Groggin to Pinninar track once and it would cut power just before the top. I assume that it was the TC cutting it. Once it did, I could not get it going again.
Pain in the arse it was.
GWM is really good for this market sector, the established brands needs some quality competition undercutting their prices - it’s only good for the industry.

Whats done to the tank at this stage? I remember you tuned it, bigger tyres aswell. Have you also lifted it? or suspension upgrades?. Asking because I'm looking for that capable beach car for SE QLD while keeping it fairly stock for warranty and daily commute.

Tank seems to hold up well! how are you finding the weird indicators do you quickly get use to them? As I took one for a test drive and of all things this peeved me the most! but it drives really well.

Just bought a Y62. Just traded the best dune buster, the mighty FJ Cruiser. What tyre pressures were the 62s running and hi or low range? Cheers
It will depend on the brand of tyre. For Dorado we usually start at 15PSI but some were down to 13

Did you climb using 4H or 4L on the tank?
4L for me, I think it’s much easier on the driveline
apart from tank300's capability, have to mention you have excellent 4wd driving skills.

Being first off the rank was interesting and good to know, but I am still wondering about capability of being last when the tracks have been carved up. If you had done it then, it would have been epic impressive.

wouldnt you be on 12 psi regardless.. psi, depends on make specs of tire.. id go to 12 befor they bagged..fc2.35,s. ford bronco,,with a v8.. nothing new.. i have a 1962 f100 4x4, WITH A V8 352ci..FE. torque, is whart you need 4x4ing, not 1000 hp.. bs.. @@DASHOffRoad
Did you take the tank after it’s been chopped up? The tank does good , gvm is my worry with this one 😊
I did and it performed comparatively with the Patrols. I think it has proved itself on sand now 👌

@@titanx04 In China thses days, there is a test drive of v6 version tank300, it use the tank500 powertrain, should be release in China soon. that one might increase the gvm I think. and tank500 / 500phev / shanhai canon should available in AU market by the end of this year. might you can go have a test drive soon.

What tire psi both the Tank and the Patrols??
TANK was on 11 and Y62 on 14
I have one here in Saudi Arabia and until now the best car that I have, I had before 4 runners, serie 80 Manual 4.5 petrol and land cruiser 70, the tank is a monster with this little turbo, only one mistake I found air-condition water outlet or something in the system gives bad odor like old water

I use a GoPro Hero 11. They are good up close, but hopeless for distant shots

The tank with less power rides on top of the sand better where the 62s spin an dig all the way.

Those patrols are just too heavy for sand. Lightweight 4x4’s do those soft hills easy

Rigged in favour of the Tank going up first on a fresh firmer sand track?? As stated by everyone else ...also the weight of all those water/fuel tanks and big tyres hanging off the back of the Patrols does not help them at all!

We are investigating, signs are pointing to too much fuel in, and with stock headers and cars, it can’t exit quick enough. ask me again in a couple of weeks when we fit headers
Those patrols are way too heavy. Put off all that fancy stuff and control the throttle please :)

Tank is at least 300-400kgs lighter or even more. I was very surprised comparing my 62 to my new raptor the difference in sand but also a few 100 kgs difference in weight and raptor has more power with fully sick twin turbo but in rocks 62 will possibly win as clearly more ground clearance
TANK is probably a ton lighter than these 62’s
Ofcourse anyone would take a patrol over the tank if money wasnt an ossie. But for hakf the price ots a great option.

It's NOT About YOU, People Want To SEE 4X4,
The 300 Tank's suspension is shit. It's soft enough to demolish tracks offroad, but will make it endo onto it's front two wheels all of a sudden stop. Any of these Patrols is capable offroad, but only the Tank is so bad onroad it's an accident waiting to happen.
Easy fix, change the suspension 🤷♂️
Except tank300.
gwm also has tank400.tank500.tank700.
