Unlocking Potential: Toyota Aristo ZF 8-Speed Conversion Explained + Dyno Demos!

- We had this 2001 Toyota Aristo V300 in with us recently for a ZF 8 speed conversion. The car itself is running basic modifications running about 360bhp.
We used the Domiworks conversion kit which makes the ZF 8HP70 gearbox a bolt in job with everything included to fit it into the car. We used the excellent Turbolamik TCU to control the gearbox which taps into the OEM Toyota ecu to pick up the signals to allow it to work. The TCU only needs to see tps, map and rpm for it to operate so its a really easy installation. Once the wiring is done the TCU needs calibrating to suit the car and it only needs basic adjustments to complete the job.
As you can see from the video below it transforms the gear shifts from the 1990's slush box to the latest fast shifting gear changes drastically improving the performance of the car.
Please get in touch if you'd like a ZF 8 speed conversion done on your car, we can do it on most RWD cars and some 4WD cars.

How does the Turbolamik integrate with the stock ecu? I have a USDM '99 SC400 (1UZ VVTI + A650E) and there's not an off the shelf kit stateside, but looking at what yall have done so far it seems that this should be more than possible. My stock 5 speed is on its last legs and if I could get the stock ECU happy, and get the Tubolamik the data it needs, the 8HP seems really hard to beat.
This is beautiful, legendary stuff for our Aristo cars. Is there a way to integrate the Works bell paddle shifter with this??
That can be done yes.
How much hp can this transmission hold? Do you guys offer the transmission already built to mate up to the car ( same car in the video )?
About 900bh depending on the torque output.
With your kit which 8hp70 is required? In the states it seems impossible to find a N75 one…
We use the N57 gearbox which we can sell you if you need one.
5.7/6.4 hemi’s in the charger/challenger use 8hp70’s not sure if they’ll work with a bmw shifter. I’d reach out to your preferred tcu manufacture to see your options
@@lyderon37 I think the problem with those is trans tunnel clearance, but yes charger did come with them!
do you know what final drive is in the aristo? I have a 3.91 in my gs300 just looking how it deals with gearing.... Did this also have an aftermarket ECU or did you just use emulator to not have the dash light with warnings
Don’t know the ratio but 3.91 will just about be ok. Standard ecu on this car with an emulator fitted.
How much would all the parts and labour cost in total?
Best to send us an email sales@garagewhifbitz.co.uk
@@Whifbitz Haha sorry I live in AU not the UK. Just curious because I want to build a Aristo. Would you say its an easy or hard conversion to do?
So is this transmission DCT or torque converter automatic and would you think this gearbox would work on a racecar where you need instant shifts?

@@Whifbitz thanks for the info and also can you run the 8hp swap on a stock ECU of a 2jz GE?
Possible to run this conversion with MoTec ECU? Thanks.
Any ecu yes
How would you rate this compared to a DCT swap?
Much much better
is that an 86 wheel lol sick
Not sure
Yes, it is the GT86 steering wheel
Can you give me more info how to emulate the stock ecu to communicate correctly with turbo lamik tcu?
I have 2jz ge and have all bmw 8hp stuff including tcu, adapter plate, etc. But this is the 1st time I hear you can connect the stock ecu to turbo lamik. I want to make the same swap leaving my engine stock for this season. And add standalone ecu+ turbo next year.
What car are you fitting it in?
@@Whifbitz lexus gs 300, year 2000. 2jz ge engine.
@@Whifbitz any update ? Mine will be for gs 300, year 2000.
What front bumper is that ?
Looks like Tom’s
Toms as far as we know.
It's not a tom,s front bumper it doesn't have the fog
The steering wheel though.
Customer fitted the steering wheel, we just wired up the paddles to work with the Turbolamik TCU.
Gt86 steering wheel
Is this a 2jz non turbo?
No it’s a 2JZGTE VVTI
