I lived in Zurich for three years and had no idea. Transit system in Zurich is perfect, whole Switzerland is the example how to design cities. Happy to hear Zurich trams are having second life in Ukraine. I remember those all trains, still in a good shape. All the best for Ukrainian people.
The economics behind zurichs decision to donate these trams to Vinnytsia is genius. Its like theyve made a trade deal without any legal deal being made. These types of decisions are great for both countries and thier relations. Zurich gets a friend and to be more circular with their transit organization while Vinnytsia gets a free upgrade, education for their shops, more transit and a great relationship to help push them forward towards a brighter future. Thank you for the great content! (new sub) Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦 - ❤️ from 🇨🇦
I’m From Vinnytsia and I’m been to Zurich a couple of times, it’s very interesting to compare them! But thanks, the video was really informative, keep up 🫰🏻
im a tram driver in Zürich for one of the newest lines (line 20) and our new Depo is right next to the main railyad in the Limmat. it was strange testing out brand new Tramlink trams while seeing the good old 2000s loaded on wagons in the railyard about to be shipped off to Ukraine
5:22 Wooow, that bike infrastructure looks incredible! This is surely decades more advanced that even the best bike infrastructure we're currently building in Switzerland! Meanwhile we're still stuck at the bike lane stage, and it honestly seems that we'll never get out of it...
Bike lanes need to be covered. Otherwise they become impractical when it rains. Sure you can wear a rain coat, but where do you put it once you arrive at your destination? Do you go inside a mall wearing your wet rain coat that is dripping water everywhere?
Made me emotional 😢❤ Thanks for the video! I can just feel with how much love these trams were repaired before they send them over to Ukraine. I mean the swiss state didn’t have to invest over 3 million, they could have handed them over as they were… but they (politicians in the end I guess) decided to hand them over in superb condition. ❤❤
Love that our public transports share colors now! Gotta visit Vinnytsia one of these days. Greetings from Zurich! I wish we would be doing more for Ukraine in this cruel time. Stay strong and Slava Ukraini!
It was very interesting to know more about history of this trams. I was in Vinnitsya twice and have a pleasure to ride by those trains. Thanks to Zurich for the trams and this channel about interesting content and highlights about russian invasion to our Ukraine
@@cityforall not sure, i mean never would have thought of a video like this one but it was super interesting! That said, I'm Colombian and my mom's family is from Medellín, which has one of the oldest urban gondola systems and also public escalators in some super hilly neighborhoods which i think is cool, their transit has been expanding quickly in recent years so a video on that could be interesting. Might also be cool to see a comparison or showcase of the cities the use urban gondolas i think it's become popular lately I lived in near new york city when i was little so transit in that area is always interesting to me, same with transit in texas, since i also lived in the dfw area, and transit in california, which is where i live now but i think it's also cool to learn about new places i've really enjoyed your content and learning more about transit in eastern europe, it's not a common perspective so i appreciate you sharing it
8:37 It really was surreal for that short time, having a few Mirages operating alongside the first few Flexity trams! (FYI, late deliveries weren’t the sole reason the Mirages had to be used: several unfortunately timed accidents caused multiple Tram 2000s and Cobras to be out of service for repairs all at the same time.)
Great story of how cities can cooperate and improve transit. Swiss cities like Zürich, Bern or Basel provide good examples on how car dependency can be reduced and quality of life improved for its inhabitants at the same time. Trams usually play an important role in this.
You can see many Czech trams in the Ukraine as well... and since the begining of the war, Prague has sent so many reconstructed trams that are being phased out but used in various cities around the Ukraine
the tram 2000s that have already arrived in Vinnytsia would have started their journey more than 1 year earlier if serious reasons had not prevented it. perhaps the third series of tram 2000s will also be delivered to Vinnitsa? they have a low-flying middle carriage. are the technical requirements in Lviv identical to Vinnytsia? there was a report recently that Lviv is also to receive trams but still has to make technical clarifications.
@@cityforall there are not many cities in europe where the track gauge and power supply fit. I'm not an electrician, but at least it looks right to me on wikipedia.
I think connected doesn't mean what you think it means, perhaps related is a more correct word. Here I was thinking there is some secret tram/metro tunnel connecting Ukraine to Switzerland.

Oh, cool! Maybe we could collaborate somehow?
That's why you build a tram network instead of a Gadgetbahn: it is compatible with tram network in other places!
Exactly!

Why scrap good trams, when can be used elsewhere. As for Tatra KT4's, they are durable products and serve many networks after modernization.
