- We skipped putting out a building video last week since it’s just more working on drywall but viewers voiced they’d still like to see the progress so here it is, more drywall installation. Next week we flip over to ceiling work so stay tuned.
Thanks for watching,
Craig & Chandra

I've been in construction my entire adult, dabbling in multiple phases. However, as a professional drywaller and Painter for over 45 years myself, I'm impression with the work you and Sean are doing. Although, it kills me to watch you guys' struggle. I certainly get it. You simply don't know what you don't know that will make your efforts much easier. Carry on, as I said, I'm impressed.
Thank you so much for that 😊
Id definitely do light colored tile and tongue and groove woukd make a beautiful ceiling. God bless you.
I’m with you on the noise making the older I get, I have to laugh at myself!😂
Maybe colors from around your yard and the parts of Alaska you love the most. Colors like sand or blue for the beach and the water maybe some colors of some wildflowers that you have that grow around your house? Things like that would really pull in what you love the most about Alaska inside your house as well as what you love outside.
I think we’re doing a subtle but pretty green in the kitchen. Maybe a blue for the bedrooms, they say it’s supposed to be a relaxing color.
I've done a lot of drywalling. When I put the final coat of mud on, I use a wet sponge and feather the edges .It saves a lot of sanding and dust. You'll be an expert when you're done with the cabin. All the best.
Thanks for the tip!
I do the same. After learning to lay marble and using a sponge and water I never did drywall the same again!
Lighter color tile to also reflect the natural light from the window
We put black grout in our bathroom, and it is hard to keep black unless you have soft water. If I could do it again, I would go lighter.
Even drywall isn't boring because it shows progress. Don't do black in the bathroom. When it was popular I had a dark brown bathroom, sink, bowl and tile. Showed water and soap spots and made the room dark. Now I have a white bathroom and beige bathroom. Gray is very popular these days and neutral. It will be nice to have your bedroom finished so that you both have a calming spot to retreat to. Will the dogs run off if left alone outside? Can you make a temporary run for them. The porch will be very nice for all of you. Nice work today.
They can be out when we are with them but it's moose calving season and I wouldn't want a momma moose being disturbed.
@ouralaskahomestead o boy, ur right. She would put a major hurt on ur babies. I came across one, one year. I slowly walked backwards & left the area.
No black, it shows every water spot and always looks dirty. Friends did that and I’ve learned from experience. Light is better 😊
I think light will make it feel bigger also.
Paint whole house yellow you will always have SUNSHINE.....lol mama loves you 😘❤️❤️
My fave color for the outside of a house--sunny yelloe.
One step closer to being done with that room! Nice job. 😊
Love your channel and your adventure. Doing an amazing job you guys.
Do what you want in your bathroom but light colours will help with light bouncing around the room. Maybe some black accent pieces.
You do whatever color you like and we will all live with it even though I prefer white. Because it makes the room brighter. Thank you for your videos, Wayne from Florida.
Ultimately we will but I love asking for opinions. Our viewers have proven to have some great ideas. We probably will go light. The space is small so light will feel bigger. I also never considered the constant cleaning and soap scum the dark will show.
We did an aquamarine in our small bathroom and it really makes the space light up
I do like blues.
Would NOT advise on dark colors, water spots and soap residue .......keep it going!!!!
Dark looks nice when clean but I have to agree with you. Removing water spots and soap scum would just be additional work.
Drywall is the worst part of building anything. We went with white fixtures in our bathroom had dark before and it showed every drop of water. Thanks for sharing. One day a time. Your moving along. Take care from Cape Cod✌️🇺🇸
If Craig never sees another sheet of drywall after this build it will be too soon.
With shower have it all white and 1/2 way down a strip of black to break up white .Smart plan you have and makes sense. get that outside done, so you can work on inside crappy days , I do that. Nice to see the drywall going up that will make the inside more homey . Real nice work .
I like the idea of an accent strip in the shower, thanks 😊
Yw. I am going to do that in my small bathroom , just breaks up the white .
Finally got one of your videos to come up. Says I can join for free but it won't let me. You two are doing a great job.
Should be a button labeled Subscribe
Go with lighter colors.. black is high maintenance for cleaning.. also black makes a small room feel smaller.
Excited (well maybe not excited) but want to see what flooring you put down since the pups are in the house. But enjoy the channel if all you are doing is drywall. I also learn something.
Thank you 😊
Oh it’s coming together really well can’t wait for finished season
I so regretted my black shower. So hard to keep clean plus light issues even though I thought I’d had installed enough light. Removed and installed light colored tile. Will never do black or dark color shower again.
It’s going to be so nice to have one room all done. Can’t wait to see what you do with the ceiling.
Lots of progress getting the room closer to be done ✔️ 😊
Wishing you the best of luck on getting all exterior walls insulated, getting your woodshed full, and acquiring the means to clear your driveway when the snow falls!
Thank you 😊
for any bathroom you need to put kediy bathroom sealer system then you think about tile because if dont any water get on stuff it leak past the tile and eat wood paper from sheet rock anything and everything so that advice to you guys
Thank you 😊
Good job coming along nicely 🇬🇧😊
Looks really great. Finishing touches soon! Nice job! I’d go lighter tile if it’s a small space. Won’t show soap scum as quickly either.
Agreed!
Great job on drywall installation, use to do that when I was younger....
Love seeing the progress coming along 🙌 👌
Drywall starts from the top down, and you stagger the joints to avoid cracking.
Not arguing that point, honestly curious, what's the difference of starting top or bottom?
Drywall is awful, but what's next is better. Decorating! Keep up the good work 😊
My favorite part, I can't wait!!!!
Have you considered “ b board” fir the ceiling … light weight, easy to install, already painted white( or unfinished if you prefer to stain it darker) , comes in 4x8 sheets, should go up fairly quickly …just a suggestion ..unless of course, you are “ addicted” to dry wall ha ha !! ….a lighter color for, , the shower maybe light blue so that in the darker winter months it isn’t so dark in the shower, would be my suggestion ..Love your videos and also watch Sean in Alaska as well.😘
Agree, bead board would be quick and inexpensive. Personally, I would do pine T&G. Stain/varnish. Your choice of course. P.S. forget black tile!
I like that idea. Maybe we'll do that in the kitchen and bathroom
Looks good
Never black. You'll hate it in the end if you do. Only use it for accents if you really want black. Always remember dark colors could hide mold and mildew and you won't notice it until you have a real problem. It can affect your health 😮
Also, As leader of the pack, your hubby and you need your dogs to know who's boss.
Darker colors show soap scum and soap film you can never get it clean enough to get rid of them even though it's clean.
The last thing I want is extra cleaning to do. Light it is!
You need a holding area for your dogs while you work since they aren't obedience trained.
Not formal "show" obedience, no. Two of them have AKC performance titles. Tess has her Canine Good Citizen, Canine Good Citizen Advanced, Rally and Trick Dog Novice titles. Kyzr has his Trick dog title. Hanz and Gidget are not titled yet but both have been to local obedience classes. Viewers see them in their down time, running, acting goofy, being DOGS. No dog should be left to roam free, especially with it being moose calving season.
The over you get the colder it will be and you will wish to live in florida
Craig is from south Florida, down by West Palm Beach. We lived there a couple years. It’s not for us.
Lighter color. Stone slate gray (for shower, think tiles that resemble stone).
Go light in the bathroom. The darker the smaller the room looks.
Age = Noice is so true .. haha .. Not saying I am old though .. since I have heard 50 is the new 30 :p
Light colors in small rooms. What I did in my tiny bathroom was started with one color, I didn't like it so took 2 lighter colors that went with the original color and sponged those 2 colors one at a time onto the walls. It gave contrast and lightened the walls. Maybe you can still do some black with gray & stone? You will still have your color black. And still have light colors to brighten the small room & not be clostrophobic.
We're thinking about getting large flat beach rocks and grouting those for the shower floor. They are black and then do something lighter on the shower walls. We'll see.
@@ouralaskahomestead oh! I can't wait to see. I'm enjoying the home coming along. Lots of hard work for sure. But so rewarding. ♥️
Do a light colored tile
I think so too. Dark will make the already small bathroom feel even smaller and lots of viewers commenting soap scum and water spots on black which i hadn't considered.
Someone start a go fund me page for this man some new pants!! 🤣🤣
😂
Black tile might show all the water marks?
Soap scum on that black tile, think light color but your choice. 😊
I think you're right
♥
Don't tell anyone you don't know what your doing. I wouldn't have known the difference.
Black bathroom with 20 hrs no sun outside ( black is popular now but it won't last....hmmm
I think after getting feedback and personal accounts from viewers that hate their dark bathrooms, we’ll opt to go with something light.
✌💗💗🤗
I see you doing all this s*** rock by yourself. What happened to your helper
She’s a full time nurse and was at work.
Where is your wife, why doesn’t she help ya?
He said she was at work!
As a full time nurse I work long hours and Craig usually does these projects while I'm gone as I prefer not to be filmed. I do help when needed though but I try to keep the camera facing towards him 😉
@@ouralaskahomestead oh wow! What an awesome profession, I didn’t realize that you worked doing that. I love your channel and enjoying your journey. 😀
She works--she’s a nurse.
Cool fact! A great way to visualize acreage is this. 1 acre is the size of a pro football field to the approximately 10 yard line. The whole field plus the end zones is 1.32 acres.🥸
