A little note Peter Cetera got his jaw broken earlier in his career and it changed the way he projected his voice And actually made Him a better vocalist
Ikr, you can really see it in The Tanglewood Concert footage. His jaw was wired. I can't imagine. His brother Kenny tells the true story on a fairly recent stream because most people get it wrong. Kenny has his own group The Chicago Experience. It's nice seeing footage a peter kenny and tim together. Tim used play in Ricky Nelson's band for a time. I loved that whole Concert footage. It's not great quality but good
This is 80s Chicago. They had a VERY different look in the 70s which is probably more of what you were expecting. Both incredibly successful decades. My fav is from ‘72 “Saturday In The Park”.
Growing up, I thought Chicago just did love songs like this. I had no idea that they rock as well. 25 or 6 to 4 is a great example of this and is the song you're talking about. It doesn't even sound like the same band. Saturday In The Park is another one that shows their variety and skill.
My best friend was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last May and i was in the middle of recording Chicago(her fav. band)on a USB stick...she died 2 weeks ago. I was lucky to have her in my life and shared the best music from the 70's!
I'm sorry for your loss. My husband introduced me to Chicago when we were dating. I was 24 and he was 42. Even in his 70s he was the most with it grandaddy you ever saw❤ no he wasn't a hippy😂😂
Chicago had it all! Great vocals & harmonies, a killer brass section, driving percussion & top notch guitar, touches of orchestra for that rich, full sound...and of course their songs, arrangements and lyrics were on another level. Keep exploring their music, they don't miss!
Love those too! They have SO many wonderfully beautiful songs like, "Color My World", "Wishing You Were Here", and "Saturday In The Park", among so many more! Love themmmmm!!! 💞💞💞
Lead singer Peter Cetera is one of top rock vocalists....Chicago is known of two types of songs- later in their career A LOT of love ballads and early on lots of funk and blues
Two Chicago’s. Early Chicago was jazz leaning with amazing horns and three lead singers. After Terry Kath died they became more ballad oriented with Peter Cetera, singing here, leading more. I love both Chicago’s. The band was marvelous no matter what they played.
Back in the day, they weren’t into the latest fashion, it was all about the music. Women still wanted to be with these musicians for how they made us feel, not for clout like today’s women. I’m just stating my own personal opinion. Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
So 80's! I believe this is the last big hit from Chicago where Peter Cetera sang lead. He left shortly thereafter. The great David Foster producing. BTW, Chicago didn't always look like this. The fashion in the 80's was to look...uh....cleaner. (lol) Before Terry Kath (their original guitarist) died, they looked like a bunch of hippies in a garage band, not a bad thing, BTW. After Mr. Kath's passing, the direction of the band softened. Many folks like the band's earlier period best, when they were more of a jazz/rock band, the "real" Chicago, they say. I like both. This song is greatness, really is. Musically complex but, accessible and, brilliantly produced and performed. On the album, this song leads straight into another song called "Getaway" and, most times, both songs were played together on the radio. These guys are steeped in jazz and musical theory and, no matter what they do, musical excellence shines through.
The most iconic roller rink "couples" song to every eighties middle schooler. MANY first kisses in the dark spot at the back of the rink happened to this song. lololol
Thank you for creating a happy space to revisit classic and beautiful, family friendly misic. Its really nice to hang here and chat with folks in the comments about good times and love for music. Zero hate, toxic behavior. 😂😂❤
I love Peter Cetera’s voice! He left Chicago in the eighties and had a successful solo career! This is one of my favorite Chicago songs…and they have so many!❤❤
These guys are legendary ! I actually seen them in Coney Island a free concert about 13 years ago. They have like an orchestra ! There had to be about 12 to 15 musicians besides lead singer ! They were absolutely amazing they had 4 or 5 number one hits but they also had 21 top 10 singles. You couldn’t even get near Coney Island that day ! The concert started at 3:30. I got there at 6:30 AM and I was nowhere near the front. It was a great experience.
Early Chicago beats anything they did in the 80’s, one of their early hits that must be heard is "Make Me Smile”, after that hit these hits, “Beginnings”, "Questions 67 and 68”, "Colour My World”, "Just You 'n Me”, "Saturday In The Park" and "Feeling Stronger Every Day". The other rival band from that era that featured horns was Blood, Sweat and Tears, check them out as well, start with these hits, "You've Made Me So Very Happy”, "Spinning Wheel”, “And When I Die" and "Sometimes in Winter”.
Another 70s band where every member plays multiple instruments and all can sing lead. The singer here, Peter Cetera, left the band in the 80s for the solo career. Terry Kath, another lead singer, was playing around with an unloaded gun, that still had one bullet in it. Accidentally shot himself in the head. He died at 31. This band has been together over 50 years and still tour. I’ve seen them live several times. Robert Lamb on keyboards, usually takes lead vocals but each member has their own vocals. They also bring the horns to the game. Very unusual in soft rock/pop in that era. So amazing in live performances. My favorite is Saturday in the Park, about a sunny day in Central Park NYC. I’ve been in there and the story is spot on. They have a huge volume of work to get through. Enjoy!
Terry Kath was Chicago's lead guitarist and did vocals on many songs. He had a harder rock edge, and when he died in January 1978 a lot of people think the band died with him. Their sound certainly changed, and they became more ballad-heavy. They're still in business today, though singer Peter Cetera left in 1985.
Peter Cetera, age 79 and still has a great smile 😁 I just watched your 25 or 6 to 4 reaction yesterday, and I couldn't believe you didn't get what he was talking about, "I close my eyes. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, 25 or 6 to 4." Yeah, you were right about him working, but what kind of job could that be unless you are an artist like he was.
Peter Cetera - gorgeous voice, gorgeous everything. ❤ check out Glory of Love, Hard Habit to Break, Baby what a big surprise, you’re the inspiration. ❤
Thank you so much for doing this song Chicago in the 80s put out some of the best ballads ever and Peter Cetera has a one of a kind voice please react to your the inspiration and hard habit to break I guarantee you you will love them to your Forever playlist thank you
I saw Chicago when they gave a free concert in 1969 at UConn (when they were still Chicago Transit Authority). They were one of the first groups I heard using so many different instruments in their music. They were phenomenal!
Quick breakdown to give you a sense of the band....They have been around forever, 1967 to current, but unlike some bands, like the Rolling Stones, they have a variety of line ups over the years with a couple of key people from start to finish. Their sound and genres they fit into have changed over the years. Early Chicago was a jazz ock/experimental band fronted by Terry Kath, who in many ways was the soul of the band. They had a horn section, and often a number of band members doing back up. Terry Kath died in 1978 of an accidental self inflected gun shot wound. This pretty much ended the early era, the band kept on, but with shifts in personnel and genres. For the early era, you have to watch "I'm a Man" (get the live performance video to get a sense of Kath's energy), and "Saturday in the Park". A lot of musicians of the 60s and 70s were trying to find there way into the 80s. It was a time often divided up with glam rock, techno, club music in the forefront. Chicago paired up with David Foster, a producer known for lush highly produced music and power ballads as a writer. Pete Cetera moved to front man, horns and jazz now in the back or non existent. They had a lot of success with the new sound but some didn't like how much they were leaving their roots behind and Pete Cetera didn't want to tour as much.... he follows his own career, and Jason Schaff eventually becomes the front guy. There was a lot of dissatisfaction from fans. As you can tell from this piece, Hard to Say I'm Sorry... Cetera has a distinct sound and makes them is own, hard for anyone to fill those boots in concert. From this era, you could check out "You're The Inspiration" or "Hard Habit to Break"
You’re the Inspiration- Chicago. BP it seems you’ve got an ear for the 80s love song Mr Softie 😀 . Understandable because so many are classics! Pretty confident you will love You’re The Inspiration by Chicago. Love to see you react to it.
This is my favorite by Chicago. I first heard it on the radio. But like you seeing them sing it on video is even more nostalgic. I guess I’m a classic at 72. It brings back places and people and another time in my life.
Wow that's great......I only saw them once in 1975....I helped chauffeur them which included a back stage pass...Terry Kath was still with us then.....great concert and great experience
Chicago has been my favorite band for this genre if music for over 30 years. Peter Cetera has the most amazingly pure voice I have ever heard.... If you're curious about the way he sings it's because his jaw was broken earlier in his life and he had to start singing with a clinched jaw . And it worked so well he just continued singing that way
Went and saw them back in the 80s. Thought it would be a kick back and enjoy the music night, man was I wrong! The brass section was so full of life they made my whole night. The whole band was amazing.
Honestly and embarrassingly, I used to get Chicago and Yes confused. And yeah, there is a band called Yes that started in the 70's and I believe are still touring. Check out Yes with "Owner of a Lonely Heart". You talked in another video about bands with similar sounds. I don't know why but these 2 bands were combined in my brain.
Chicago is known for its horns and percussion. To cover all their music in concert the stage and band is huge. You can find some really upbeat and hot. Chicago deserves a deeper drive.
They looked different in each decade, of course. I like their 70s look--longer hair, relaxed clothes, etc. My very favorite song of theirs is, "If You Leave Me Now." They're a great and fun band from back in the day. Love your facial expressions, JP. Your reactions are interesting and funny, too!
11:00 @melanietheriault3350 True, Peter is not in the We are The World choir recording, but Chicago's song "Good for nothing" is on the We are the World album.
My favorite all time band. I m about as old as they were then/now. Grew up with so many great songs of theirs.Listened/enjoyed their music all throughout all my relationships through all those decades. Peter Cetera ( went solo ) had a great voice with them and as a solo musician too.
And that was in the day when they didn't have teeth whitening, lol. BP you are hilarious, I watch you examine every little detail of each video, and am getting pretty good at what your thinking, lol, but this time I didn't see that coming. My favorite tune by Chicago, it definitely belongs on the forever list! Thanks BP👍❤️
They have been around for a long time. They have made 29 albums since 1969 and are still touring. with 3 of the original band members.; I started listening to them in the mid seventies.
Chicago is an oldie but goodie for this Gen Xer!! The memories they bring back of my Mama bring tears to my eyes. I lost her when she was 58 and I was 30… as a kid/teen she would jam music in the car- just the 2 of us! Thanks for the memories 🥹
You should listen to the longer version of this song!!! There’s an extra little bit to this song!! You gots to check out Saturday in the Park, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, Colour My World, Old Days, Hard Habit To Break, You’re the Inspiration, If She Would Have Been Faithful, Look Away, Just You and Me, Will You Still Love Me, Niagara Falls, One More Day, Heart In Pieces, I Don’t Wanna Live Without Your Love, You’re Not Alone, What Kind of Man Would I Be, and Victorious
The Chicago you're seeing in this 1982 video looks dramatically different from the Chicago of the 70s. Their music is much different in the 80s vs the 70s, too. Some people think the change came because of the death of their amazing guitarist, Terry Kath, but the evolution had already begun while Terry was still alive. In fact, the change in style was the reason Terry was planning to leave the band and go solo, so he could play the kind of mudic he liked.
Peter Cetera is the lead singer. You may have heard the song "For the Glory of Love" from the Karate Kid 2 soundtrack. Also did an amazing song with Amy Grant, "The Next Time I Fall".
Az Yet (I think that was their name) covered it in the early to mid 90’s and if you were into rnb as well as rap you probably heard their version. They also have a duet with Peter cetera and it’s good too.
I were borned on July 1st 1956. When we were kids they had what was called “elevator music”. It was generally orchestral music. About 28 years I ago I was working in a hardware store. We had a full basement where extra stock, and special buys were kept. I was headed down one day, and coworker Steve was coming up, as we passed he said, “ you know you’re old when the elevator music was procal harum whiter shade of pale! This song was 25+ years old. Very funny, Steve had a very dry sense of humor.
Chicago, in this era, Chicago 16, 17, 18, 19, cranked out some massive rock ballads that kept them high in the charts through the 70's and 80's! That's after having a strong showing in the 60's when they debued. They had some great stuff in the 90's too. They have had a career spanning some 60 years and they have rolled with the times and shown different sides of their music. But in the 80's they were arguably the kings of rock ballads.
I have been watching Black Pegasus for a few months now. I love watching his facial and emotional reactions. I LOVE that the lyrics speak to his soul ---- as lyrics speak to me. Bread, BeeGees, Chicago, Boston, Simply Red...Procol Harum ....I lived the dream listening to this music. It inspired and motivated...comforted and sat with me in sadness....danced with me in joy. Keep on "Keepin' it real". Share your heart. This 78 year old great grandma loves your guts!!!!
Chicago is one of the greatest rock bands ever in history
Best brass section in pop
Absolutely ! I've always loved them !

my fave song ever!!!

@@tmkellison4016 Great song, it's a Peter Cetera solo song, not with the group
Look Away was Chicago's third #1, and the first not sung by Cetera, Bill Champlin sang it, it's a banger

Robert Lamm looks like a high school teacher in this video!
Lead singer, Peter Cetera, did a solo song for Karate Kid 2 -- "Glory of Love" -- that was big
This would be great on the channel!
It’s probably why it sounds so familiar to Black Pegasus! Karate Kid 2! Please check out Glory of Love! Also, older Chicago’s ‘Wishing You Were Here’
Fight for your honor was better whatever the name is
@@davidzaunii6911 - That's the "Glory of Love" song.
Chicago has a sound that you’ve probably never heard the style, but they have a massive catalog
Super large amount of band members if I'm remembering correctly, iconic group and this was definitely a favorite.
"If you leave me now" is Chicago and Cetera's great ballad.

Hard Habit To Break, Your My Inspiration, Stay The Night ❤
Chicago, is such an iconic band, their ballad's are stunning.
They put on a GREAT show
Hard Habit To Break another great song.
Every teenager in the ‘80s knows all the Chicago songs
This song brings me so viscerally back to a moment in 1986. I lost my dad two years ago and I’m smiling about that day tonight.
I hear pain, and sadness and love in this song. So brilliantly written.
You gotta try and find a long version of this. It’ll blow your mind.
Yes! His mind would be really blown with the 'Get Away' included
@@vanhamlin Yeah, gotta have those horns! 🎺🎷
It his voice that hits right when he left it wasn't the same
True!! 👍
Peter cetera did a solo sobg called glory of love for one of the karate kid movies
Peter Cetera has the best voice. my fave song ever is You're the Inspiration by them. cute video too. should give it a listen
70's Chicago was the best!!! This is the 80's.
Yes please!!!! More Chicago!!! Chicago is on Fire and has been for a Looooooong time !!!!!! Love this song❤
Chicago is humongous monster group Mega hits throughout several decades
R.I.P. Terry Kath 🤘
The band/music was good but NEVER the same.
I'm so glad you finally did a review of Chicago. I've been asking and asking.
