But let me echo your sentiment - Let no one tell you any different - G Ablett Snr. The. Best. Footballer. Of. Last. 50. Years. (I didn’t see before that) - Absolutely no doubt.

Still the greatest. 8 goals (starting on a wing!) in the 1984 State of Origin V WA at Subiaco after just 9 league games. He was so 'unknown' the commentators called him 'Geoff' Ablett for the entire first half. State of Origin was considered the highest standard ever. Who else in history could do that?

Vertical leap onto Gary Perts shoulders, twisting and taking a left handed speccie. 2. Man handling mick Martin and casually taking, another one hander..3. (Personal fave, being Essendon fan).. borking 2 ess players, one being Michael long!,, and then kicking left foot drop punt from 50.
    Simply beyond.

Even in retirement, Gary Senior while obviously has had his share of tough times considering what has happened with him after retirement, it is nice to see him adding more to his highlight reel as he puts his views about Australian Football from today and how it has changed since he last played back in the 90s.
It was nice to see him being proud of his boys after the 2007 Premiership and while Gary Senior was involved in 4 loosing Grand Finals when he played for Geelong, obviously the 1989 is better remembered for being the classic while the 1992 was a missed opportunity but it was West Coast Eagles' first premiership that was still a good game to watch on DVD. Though the 1994 and 1995 Grand Finals can only be enjoyed by the side who won as Geelong were absolutely thrashed in those games by 80s points against West Coast Eagles and 60 points against Carlton.
But even then, just to make it to the Grand Final 4 times in your career is still a massive achievement and it was between those years of 1989 to 1996 I can still remember some classic games during the home and away season as well as during the Finals series especially the two finals in 1994 that will be edged in my memory forever. The Billy Brownless goal after the siren against Footscray Bulldogs (now called the Western Bulldogs since 1997) and the Gary Ablett goal after the siren against North Melbourne often refereed to as the Hand of God moment.
Geelong had some great seasons between those years with Ablett senior and others on the team playing at their best.
I don't agree with everything he has said in how the game is made better, but I do agree with the head protection aspect for the game considering the impact it has had on players back in his day who used to get really big knocks to the head such as Greg Williams who played for Geelong, Sydney and Carlton back in the 80s and 90s.
The women playing AFL Football in the women's league is one positive I think is worth mentioning, but it will take some time before we can see some real entertainment as the scores are still low and the crowd still needs to support the women's league.
I do agree that Football has changed for the worse in regards to we don't see any Full Forwards kick any 100 goals in a season which makes me wonder if anyone will do it again, and if so will the entire crowd be able to run onto the ground or are the risks of security going to ruin what was once so special in our Australian Football during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

TBoneTony Gary was my hero growing up, we would switch ends ever quarter when watching Geelong and I still today have many of the things he signed for me as a kid.
      But.........
As an adult and a Dad, I cannot get over his role in the death of Alisha Horan.
A 40 yr old grub that seduced a 20 yr old girl, feed her pinga’s and speed on a 5 day bender that ended with her overdosing on the heroin he supplied .
After calling 000 he took off before the ambulance arrived.
Leaving another man’s little princess dead and alone.
All the football highlights in the world will ever make up for the role he played and lack of remorse he has shown regarding the death of Alisha Horan.
He still has not apologized to her family.

One of the Greatest...what a joke. Easily the best. Matthews was a junk yard dog compared to Ablett and well ahead of Carey.

Dont be silly. Hes not even close to Ablett. No one ever has or ever will. Please talk sense. Dont be bias.

I also find it very troubling the admiration that is heaped on Gary Ablett Snr. The parents of the Alisha Horan must cringe everytime his name is mentioned .

Probably the most overrated player ever
Any hack could kick goals in those days
