I was lucky enough to see Gazza play on many occasions. Including 89 prelim and GF. I was there when he kicked 14 against Richmond in 89 and 14 against Essendon in 93. Watched him kick 11 against Melbourne one day and 11 against Nth. I saw the best of Gazza. I can’t speak for everyone but I can say this on my behalf, Gary Ablett Snr is the best footballer I have ever seen . And I’ll take that to the grave.

I'm happy I saw him play many times. Apart from those spectacular high marks, one of his favourite tricks was reading the ball so well as it flew towards a pack, that everyone else missed it, and he would end up with a chestmark, or something similar. It was uncanny.

I'm a Essendon Bomber fan of 50+ yrs and every time Essendon played against Ablett,I secretly wished that Ablett would kick a bag of goals against us but of course we still win. Perfectly example 1983 Ablett v Essendon Our full forward Salmon kicks 10 goals at one end and Ablett kicks a massive 14 goals at the other end !
