    your absolutley right, they thought it was a scaled evaporator and changed it. Thats where thoroughness comes in. Other night I was checking a 5 well steam table and it was 8pm and I just wanted to check the heater to the well they were complaining about. But you kept popping up in my head and saying "look at the big picture". I did and I found two other wells with their safety limits bypassed and the unit is not grounded!! You are teaching great attitudes. Thank you sir.

    It's always important to make sure the right parts are on the machine to eliminate any problems that might arise. However it is good to install a water filter system with a water pressure guage to make sure you are getting enough water pressure. Usually when a bin thermostat goes bad either the machine wont come on or the machine wont turn off. It is good to use a volt meter with ohms and continuity to check the bin thermostat. Many times also a defective or dirty float switch can cause a freeze up on the evaporator for Hoshizaki

  • @gsxrsquid
    @gsxrsquid 3 года назад +1

    I don't know about the newer machines but 15-20 years ago When I had a bad freeze up on a Hoshi it was normally related to harvest problems. Hoshi is my favorite machine. I heard Hoshi had problems with evap plates separating but I only ever saw it once and I worked on a lot of them.
    I could work on them all day, though I do not anymore.
    Over the years 98% of ice machine problems are water side. Replace maybe 2 compressors and one expansion valve and maybe one bin stat. Lots of check valve rebuilds.

    • @kurtheil4922
      @kurtheil4922 4 года назад +7

      Yeah most of the big bulk ice makers have mold in them and unless they get cleaned on a regular basis. Which with most companies doesn't happen because that would mean you'd have to spend labor dollars on it and the labor at most places is barely enough to keep the doors open much less do thing like clean machines like the are supposed to be. If you think that ice bin is bad you don't want to know what a fountain machine looks like. I started managing a convenience store and got taught how to properly clean the machine I've never drunk fountain drink ever again.

    I love Hoshizaki ice machines, you can keep the rest. I also find that water scaling on the evaporator causes ice to stick, requiring a de-scale. Don't know if you have chalk in the water causing scale over there in the States but we do in certain areas of the UK.

    If the machine had a history of evaporator freeze up, It could have been why the evaporator went bad. Those evaps are made of stainless steel. the coils are sandwiched between the plates. So, if water gets between those plates it will over time separate the plates from the coil.

    • @sirrealism5806
      @sirrealism5806 4 года назад +1

      Thank you for mentioning this. I was going to say the same thing. Not very often have I seen one leak but many times you see the tubes broken from the evap plate. This causes long freeze issues.

  • @shanebehm8251
    @shanebehm8251 5 лет назад +11

    • @hangngoaigiare

      Shane Behm ya people clean it and put it back at the wrong level too. End up adding too much water into the machine. Ice cubes are a lot thicker and take longer to harvest.

    Great video once again. Had the same issue on a km2400srh3 cuber from Hoshi. I also found a wrong sized water inlet valve and the bypass spring was weak. Dumping water into the float switch from the top hose. Replaced both those and ran fine for 4 days then all of a sudden froze up again. Tested the float switch but found was intermittent and hanging up. Replaced float switch no more call backs.
    Excellent info about the water inlet line size. Very common to see 3/8" line to every unit no matter the size.

They will last much longer and customer will be happier in the long run. ive proven it. clean something and it works for 3 weeks to 6 months or a year. replace the part and customer can be happy for many years.

    It didn't look too bad, but bad enough when combined with the reduced supply water line & improper water inlet valve(nice catch there). But I'm not sure why you replaced the binstat?? It had nothing to do with anything.

    I hate the amount of times I've seen issues with hoshi unit that were all caused by improper installation. The first thing I do on any ice machine I'm working on for the first time is check the supply line and the drain line so I can see for myself it's done correctly.

    That was ingenius how the GPM of water was calculated. Your expertise is a thing of beauty to watch. How else could that be done? maybe using an empty gallon jug of milk or something and filling it up while timing it? is that plausible?

    We had a Hoshizaki Cube Star in the employee break area. (Removed upon a remodel some years ago.) I can't forget the locally-made sign that was posted on it. "Do not put anything in this drian (sic). No coffee, soda, juice ect (sic)." Misspellings bug me, and so this bugged me every day as I had to see it every day.

    I know absolutely nothing about ice machines, but I am fascinated how they work. If I did own one, I would love to have you as my serviceman. You seem very knowledgeable, thorough, and concerned to get the machine to operate properly. Excellent video. Is that an EV RE-320 Mic in your studio?? Sounds great, nice EQ set up.

I dont know what they era using for solder on these new machines but its crap. I have changed 10 evaps in the last month or so all under warranty with machines that are 6 months old or less

    Hey Chris and other Guys, i installed a Brand New KM1301 SAH-E machine in April this year. straight off it didn't work, dumping 10 litres of water 10 minutes into the freeze cycle.. pulled out the dump valve spring and stretched it,machine worked.. got new spring from spares,it had 5 coils,original spring had 4 coils. according to Hoshi USA there is only 1 spring...???... and they recommend you stretch it to be between 38 - 50mm long. Anyhow ,in the past 7 months i've had 7 ice ups, never any fault beeps, always defrosted and checked every component to work, its makes ice a ok..did the full ice up fault sheet for Hoshi USA and they saw no issue with water or anything else.. once it ran for a 68 min freeze cycle,after i defrosted it ,i changed PC board, then discovered Hoshi manual says dip switch setting are max 60 mins, but its wrong and those dip switch settings are 70 min max freeze cycle factory set... iv'e set dip switches for 50 min now... have been given a new water valve , new float, changed, still ice ups at irregular intervals.. .. 12 days, 7 days,40 days,12 days,80 days.14 days.. David at Hoshi USA is stumped,30 emails later.. ive put 6 of these in and never had issues over the past 8 years.. this model has magnetic bin switch, seen bin full and off 10" under ice head countless times, tested bins switch a 100 times.it works..im getting a new comp relay to fit soon... any clues out there USA Techs...??? thorough job on that machine Chris..

    • @drcolster
      @drcolster 5 лет назад +1

      @@HVACRVIDEOShey Chris, From an Empty Water Trough, it fills in under 1 minute and starts hot gas cycle then water pump, then freeze cycle.. have tested this many times, water pressures ,flows, etc.. David at Hoshi USA has no answer as said..that's why i'm getting new comp relay, maybe that is jamming on, i've change nearly everything else... if that fails they are sending another machine...

    just fyi at 8.09 is a major install error your line set have vertical loops that cause oil to get trapped due to oil migration. just fyi that can cause issues that are hard to catch much like seperated evap coils are hard for an inexperinsed tech to find love yout vids

    I know I have more questions.
    But that water valve is like a TXV you need to have the right tonnage. For it to function properly.

    • @HVACRVIDEOS
      @HVACRVIDEOS  5 лет назад +1

      That is correct without the right flow rate coming in it can cause all sorts of problems, freeze ups being the main one.

    Good learning info, good detail, but deicing, running multiple cycles, looking up all that info. weighin ice and water times adjusting board. must of took 3.5-5hr hr service call. Inless ur company not to busy way to much time spent, normal to have 3-7 calls a day. Also proper water valve, bigger water line, and proper bin extension lots of customers will ask. it been running like that for years why all of the sudden won't work? 95 percent of the time 1 part out or just got to dirty. Good job tho.

    Not enough water was my first guess even before reading the description, also check the evap for any bulging between the horizontal ridges. I love Hoshizaki machines, but one bad freeze up can wreck the evaporators. I'm only 4 seconds in, so on to the rest of the video.
