Thanks for this video, it has a lot of valuable information. I will definitely try and implement some of your ideas in my tumbnails. However, in a world oversaturated with thumbnails containing arrows and clickbait, would more simplified thumbnails then "catch the eye" so to speak?
depends on the thumbnail of course. But often really clickable thumbnails are generally really simple. They are easy to understand because not much is going on.
@@socialvideoplaza Good point. I'm just starting out on RUclips, and attempting a simple thumbnail approach on my channel. I see a lot of people putting so much information in the thumbnails, sometimes it's difficult to even figure it out. Sort of like you say in the video, too much details are lost when you are zoomed out at 100% even. Keep up the good work, thanks again!
This video is great! This actually made me curious about something. How might the title and thumbnail thing apply to animation meme/amv channels? My intent is to only post occasionally but I wonder how might it be possible to grow within a somewhat saturated field, even if my art skills aren't the greatest :)
Your thumbnail, video idea/angle of the video the is absolute most important thing for a competitive niche. My advice: up your photoshop skills by at least 2x, otherwise otherwise it's simply a waste of time making videos
I am not sure using Netflix data is useful for RUclips. The audience in both platforms are having a very different experience (when a user is on Netflix, they want to spend time watching something, whereas, when a user is on RUclips, (judging by all the RUclips videos about making content for RUclips), they just want to go to the specific parts that interests them, sometimes skipping parts, other times watching at a different speed. It seems like the content on RUclips is treated in a very different way, and this is very clear when it comes to videos that need to rank in search (people looking for answers). So, while Netflix's observations may apply to some videos, it shouldn't really matter to the creators that could benefit from this video. Also Netflix is popular for binge-watching content... RUclips is not thought in that way (it will recommend any video in a playlist in any order). So in Netflix, they only have to worry about the main banner or main thumbnail for a series or a movie, then the individual videos don't matter that much (depends on the show, though). I may be alone in this thinking, but I am a bit annoyed at seeing faces in all the thumbnails, some of them are really painful to see (the ones that appear in YT studio, for example). I have seen very good thumbnails without faces and they work for me (for example, animal crossing videos). Having said that... the thumbnail you designed in this video is pretty good :p
thanks for the comment. I think there is some truth in what you say, Netflix is not 100% youtube. But still I find the study fascinating. Funny how we stand opposite on the faces thing. I never click on thumbnails without faces, and I never watch videos without faces when it comes to informational videos. I noticed that I've developed a pretty accurate BS detector but therefore I need to see the creator
@@socialvideoplaza I guess it depends on the content and to whether you know the creator already. I thought this faces thing was originally a study done on RUclips (I didn't know it came from Netflix). Do you know if there is one like that for RUclips?
@@HowBizarreStudios Yes it depends on the content, entertainment does not claim validity while information does. And no I don't know if there is a specific youtube study. If anyone does, I'd like to know. I originally thought it was a youtube study too, until I found the netflix study. It is even (mis)quoted in one of the books of the big youtube gurus.
You wouldn't be the first and you wouldn't be the last. I've been guilty of that myself. My last weeks video about deleting videos was an old one, I did there too. I should change that one by-the-way. and give it a proper reason to click. What would be my feedback for your thumbnails: create more intrigue. The one about the mysterious death with "tatort" did better, because people want to know about it. That thumbnail created tension. Don't get me wrong, your thumbnails arent bad. but that would be the next step to focus on.
@@socialvideoplaza Thank you for taking the time to have a look at my thumbnails as well as giving feedback 😊 Interestingly the thumbnails where I try to use intrigue, dont perform the best. Eg. I have 2 Videos about Rudolf: Part 1 about his life with a rather "boring" thumb has 6,2% CTR. Part 2 - the "tatort" video - has 5,9 %. I also tried the intrigue approach at the Tripadvisor Top 10 Video. And it doesnt perform great either (4,8% CTR). Well.. I guess I have to keep experimenting :)

I expected this amazing channel to have WAY more susbcribers
So many great tips in just 8 minutes! Love how concise you are, but still got so much value out of it.
thanks for the comment,
I hope it helps you to get more views!
6:56 “Let’s make a thumbnail!”
Haha. Love it.
This may be the best video on this topic I’ve come across.
Wow, thank you!
@@socialvideoplaza - You’re welcome!
Your channel is sooooo underrated. You're beating everyone out there except Film Booth (not sure who's my favorite now). Keep going 🙂
thanks, I too think that filmbooth is one of the few channels out there actually worth watching.
Really great, Dexxter. Wonderful research, and thanks for sharing it all so generously.
no problem, great to see you around here again!
Just a video I needed, because I try to improve my thumbnails. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Thanks for the comment!
great pacing, great insights!

@@socialvideoplaza Yeah, that's my guess as well. I could swear it was quoted at some point by gurus as a RUclips study... Good to know.
Keep up your good work 👍
Thanks, you too!
Awesome content mate, but what if I´m not a Affinity- or Photoshop-Wizard like you? I´m, just a creator of music-teaching-videos :-(
I am far from a Wizard, and I've learned a lot over the last year, by watching a ton of tutorials
Great vid. Loved it. Very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your 764 caught my eye...I knew I had watch that. 🤭
that means that it is a good title ;)
#shamelessselfpromotion haha

thanks
That what I feel like sometimes, got a idea but fail to execute the idea, some interesting information in this video, Thanks Dexxter
yeah failing is a part of creating.
Accepting a part of growth ;)
