Great to hear you are helping kids deal with our lack of wisdom as adults on all sides of the conflict. As a SA , I opted for conscientious objection to military service due to my reading of the atrocities committed during the second world war, my reading of the late Jacques Ellul on Violence , the teachings of the Master from Gallilee . It's too late for the adults but today I encourage all young people to adopt the path of non violence for the sake of the children lost on both sides during war . No war is noble esp when children are suffering or dying on both sides. War often allows for a certain contingent on both sides to behave in ways they would not in normal society. Why we are all shocked when we hear about rape and pillage of the enemy . Our greatest enemy is in ourselves.

But we are not far from how things were before October 7. We could return to that previous state in a matter of days. It is also important to note that our divisiveness throughout the year weakened us and strengthened those who wished to attack us. A captured Hamas terrorist who participated in the October 7 attacks stated how the ongoing protests and demonstrations in Israel encouraged Hamas during their preparations for the attack. When outside influences that pressure the formation of our unity move away, internal feelings of hatred resurface. We might believe that coming closer during tough times lets us develop while maintaining that closeness. However, this idea is incorrect. We need to undergo a reset and rebuild our unity from scratch, without external pressure dictating our actions but out of our own choice to live in a common connection to each other, with a spirit of unity, support, care, encouragement and closeness dwelling in our relations.
