The coop is really looking great! The extra loft storage should definitely come in handy. I have one suggestion concerning the wire mesh up in the ridge. I’m thinking you might have a problem with birds getting between the ridge cap and the mesh and building nests. They make a mesh ridge vent (Cobra) that you can put in under your ridge cap, that will allow air to circulate while keeping critters out. Also very inexpensive. Good luck and keep up the great work!
Next time Sir - Might try NO tape measure, but lay a 6" board down. Score or Mark - then truly cut straight. Triple check your measurements. Work "Lazy" not Hard. Love your content! Keep Going! Thank you for sharing your build.
Thanks Pete trying to get ideas on my leanto where in summer here in Somerville Tx I can raise my meat chicks, I want to close off one end and put in roosts but afraid it will be to hot unless I leave a 2 ft all around open ( it’s all closed in now with hard wire to keep out predators) wondering if I use hinges and sliding locks for winter time if that would be do able? Or would wind make it rattle and scare chics?
I live in the Florida Panhandle and it gets hot and humid . You used a top roof vent as well as a fan on the gables. Do you think if the chickens have plenty of access to water, that a heat driven roof fan would be sufficient? I ask because I don't have power to the shed and would make it a much more difficult task... (One of those fans that look like spinning mushrooms on top of an elementary school...) Thank you for showing us what you did and how!!!
They do make a solar gable fan but they're a bit expensive. You're going to have to add more ventilation in there or windows. I might add two more windows.
Hi Pete, would you recommend using oil based or water based polyurethane better for your coop. We just built one too but we would like to keep it clean as possible. I know how dirty it will get. Thank so much. We love seeing your video.
I know this was posted ten months ago but for anyone finding this video / this comment oil based poly will last better and it smells a bit more while it's drying but worth it, compared to the water based. I used to work in a paint store.
Thanks, I'm putting down lots of wood shavings for them to poop on, then when it's time to clean, I'll sweep it out into my cart and into a compost pile.
O my goodness. I have not seen your updated videos in a very long time .What happened to your beautiful chicken coop and run that you designed and built by yourself and what happened to your chickens?
You ever thought about doing this? Nest boxes. That the eggs roll to the front. www.pinterest.com/mrsswing/roll-away-nest/ www.backyardchickens.com/threads/converting-existing-nest-boxes-into-rollaway-boxes-what-say-the-bycers.611050/
My chickens love to roost by the window. 🐔 I would love to have a coop that size. Thanks for sharing!
👍
My Mom raised Debbie, so good to see you with them!

Wouldn't be East Texas without ticks n chiggers, keep up the great work Pete.
You got that right! 👍
That is nice chicken coop ... those are going to be lucky birds ... Keep up the good work!
Thanks 👍
I would like to do a coop like that, but at the top, have an area for guineas to fly in and roost, since they like a higher up roosting spot.
An awesome video and a beautiful pup!
Thank you very much!
You have some great idea for your new coup. My daughter is thinking about enlarging her coup & run... these tips may help her. Thanks.
Great thanks 👍
GREAT video,loved it PETE!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you 👍

Cool shed/coop. With your endorsement I am going to check out Dirksons for our coop.

I used oil based polyurethane, the smell will go away when it dries.

LED light bars work well in both garages and chicken coops and can also be solar powered.
I was going to buy some 4ft LED shop type lights but they were a bit expensive.
Lookin purdy, are you also putting in the poop sand tray ..? 💚👍👍🐓🐓
Thanks, I'm putting down lots of wood shavings for them to poop on, then when it's time to clean, I'll sweep it out into my cart and into a compost pile.
We painted the inside of our old coop with low VOC Enamel.
A solar powered fan controlled by a thermostat work well in both garages and chicken coops.
👍
Have you ever installed a solar fan in a coop blowing out so that the air is drawn thru the window and doors crating better air flow in the coop?
That's how I have my fan setup now but I have never installed a solar type fan before.
O my goodness. I have not seen your updated videos in a very long time .What happened to your beautiful chicken coop and run that you designed and built by yourself and what happened to your chickens?
I still have my old coop, run, and chickens. I'm just expanding and getting more chickens to produce more eggs.
What part of East Texas are you at? I’m in Gilmer area
Is there an update to this video?
😊👍
Thanks
Brother dust will have that screen wire sealed off quick
I thought about that too but I can brush it off when it does.
Won’t rain get in?

Yep, that's what I have. The eggs roll to the front.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Good man. Keeps the chickens from eating the eggs, and keeps them cleaner.
Folks worry about bugs and bees in their coops. What do you think chickens eat? Bees won't build in a coop. Survival rate is too low :)
