I just bought my new 2018 fat boy Bonneville salt white today. Took it for a test ride and OMG! The torque on my 114 is unbelievable. Maybe its cuz i havent ridden for 20 yrs but i was completely impressed. Even the stock pipes sounded great. Ordered all the accessories i wanted and am doing the stage 3 build. Can't wait to pick it up!
Hi Dan and thanks for your message. My bike runs and looks so great that I never made any additional changes to it since it was almost new. I am selling Harley-Davidson motorcycles for a living now and the hours required keep me from enjoying the bike as often as I'd like to...still only 4200 miles are on the bike. I did order a custom, blue stitched Corbin seat and will post a video when it comes in.
That is nice . I have the wicked red 2018 Fatboy . Wondered what bags and windshield would look like as I plan on doing some cross country runs with it . Full dresser is just too much for me . Plus I can take the bags windshield off when just farting around back home . Agree what you said about the pipes . Sound good stock ..but I'm looking for a little more rumble . Once again beautiful bike
Thanks for the compliments! I eventually went with the Vance & Hines Eliminator 300 slip ons along with a Stage II cam, pro-street tuner and the auto tuner. The bike runs strong and sounds GREAT. Check out my newest video if you haven't already. Enjoy your bike!
I have a 107. I love it! but . . my speedo has moisture inside, can't see digital info in the hot sun. And oil coming from breather into throttle body, maybe its a tad full. (done 6,000kms) You might want to check yours.
Hey Richard, sorry for the delayed response! By now, we all know that your problem was the P.O.S. stock oil pump. The fix is the updated 2020 HD oil pump with the o-ring seal. Alternatively, you could have used a race spec aftermarket bullet oil pump. Which one did you get? You did fix it, right?
@@marylandmotorhead-johnonei6038 the bike shop that sold me the bike had overfilled the engine with oil. I drained about 0.5 ltr engine oil. Set the (very)hot oil level to half way up the dipstick. Also removed the throttle body breather and turned it around to exit through the air filter inlet and into a pill bottle stuffed with tissue paper. Yeah its cheap but I wanted to see what was going on. . Anyway no more problems. The engine now idles smoothly without surging and pulls away cleanly riding in traffic. Lovely! ps: why did I do this? When I removed the air filter to check it I noticed an oil smear in the throttle body. I opened the butterfly and the inlet manifold had 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil muck inside.
Nice looking bike! Do you have the 15” or 19” windshield on it? How does it work for you? I’m 5’11” and am thinking about getting the windshield. Considering the Memphis Shades Fat also but leaning toward HD for quality
Hi Fernando and thanks for the compliment. It is the 19" windscreen. I highly recommend this particular shield. It creates an absolutely still pocket of air for me but I am about 5'-08". The shorter screen is simply inadequate for high speed touring, no matter the rider's height. Hope this helps.
Thank you for this great video mate. I want a 2018 Fat Boy in salt white. But I've held back because I wasn't sure how the touring options would look on the bike.....and I do a lot of touring. I feel the touring bikes are to big. In my opinion you lose a lot of the mobility and fun that you get from the smaller bikes. You may as well be driving a car at that point. I was very concerned the day maker headlight would look stupid with a screen on it and that the bags would hide that beautiful back wheel to much. basically making the bike ugly. But this is not the case! This is the first video I've found with a new Fat Boy all decked out for touring. Much appreciated brother. I'll be putting my order in now! Ride safe!
You're going to love those Vance & Hines pipes they sound good smart choice on that torque Cam and tuner I'm hearing more and more good stuff about the tuners all the time ride safe
Torque is plenty from the mill. I went with the HP cam, street tune, and auto tune. Same power output as a Stage 3, actually slightly better. Check out the P and N catalog. Look at the 114 stage kit specs. And oh, Tab Performance slip on mufflers with zombie baffles. BTW....download the catalog from the harley davidson site. Found out the printed catalogs have some bad information. Seriously look into it.
Hey Aprojeep, thanks for your input. Can you tell me specifically what info. is bad in the printed catalog? Did they confuse or mis-lablel the dyno readings? People are making important decisions based on the numbers on these graphs! As I wait for my back ordered slip-ons, I am now contemplating using the Stage II HP cam that you got as opposed to the Torque cam, although I'm still leaning towards the Torque cam. I will also use the Pro-Street Tuner and the Smart Tune Pro Auto-Tuner, as you did. Thoughts on Stage II Torque vs. HP cam? Have you ridden both?
John O'Neill.....The torque and horsepower tables are mislabled for the Milwaukee Eight 114 and CVO stage kits (page 572 & 573 in the 2018 P&N catalog). Found out that all the HP stage 2 cam kits should be labled the same color, yellow (if I recall correctly). Instead in the printed version the TQ and HP color bands are inconsistent. The torque cam gives you about 8 more foot pounds of torque in the beginning but it drops off in the high rpms. The horsepower cam will keep pulling till it hits redline and has better torque output. But when you are up that high in rpms, you want horsepower not the torque. That's my take on it. I guess build the bike for your use and not for mine. But I can tell you my pulls hard, waaaay better than stock. Download the catalog from the Harley Davidson website. It has the correct graphs. I did swap my straight through baffles on my Tab Performance mufflers to the louvered style. It was too loud and adding a little more resistance recovers some of that lost power. I hope this helps.....safe riding John P.S. I will throw a video of mine into the public comments.
Hey Aprojeep, thanks very much for the video. Your FLFBS sounds fantastic with the new louvered baffles you installed. I am now seriously considering placing an order for these pipes. Are you 100% happy with the sound of your new louvered baffles in the TABS? I sense some trepidation...as if you're only 90% satisfied. Like you, I want to maintain the stock look of the exhaust without compromising power and sound. Seems like the TAB Performance pipes utilizing the stock satin chrome heat shields is another option I didn't know I had in addition to the yet to be available Vance & Hines 300 Eliminator slip-ons I have been waiting months for. I appreciate the information about the mistake on the graphs in the printed HD catalog and clearly saw the mistake when I compared the downloaded info. vs. the printed info. On the HP cam vs. the Torque cam issue, I am still leaning towards the Torque cam because I typically don't ride in the upper RPM range and I like the low rpm response. It sounds though like you are more than satisfied with the torque output with your HP cam so I will have to think seriously about this. Thanks for all of your input!
I am EXTREMELY happy with my Tab Performance slip-on mufflers. I had the Zombie baffles initially but after a short 2-3 mile ride. I was turned off because they were too loud. The baffles on the Tab Performance mufflers are interchangeable. So I ordered up a pair of the louvered baffles and the rest is history. AND you don't have to wait a lifetime to get them. Order them online and roughly two days they are at your door. Installation is easy (30 min.). I like the HP cam because I do like to wind it out occasionally on the straightaways, on ramps, out of a corner, etc.. I hope this helps!
Frank, you are entitled to your opinion and I don't entirely disagree; after all, I am replacing them with pipes I think will sound much better. I will point out though that I have noticed that the sound coming from these pipes (as when reproduced through a speaker, watching and listening to a RUclips video) is only as good as the speaker itself. In other words, in person, the pipes actually sound great for STOCK Harley pipes with that distinctive rumble we have all come to love; just not as loud. They also sound good being played back through my Harmon Kardin sound system in my BMW but when I listen to them watching the video through my phone, they sound like ass. Take that into consideration and thank you for your opinion.
Good video!
