I've seen a few reactions to this sketch and you're the first to realise Ronnie Barker did some adlibbing when the duck shook it's back end. And he was so on point with the Teddy Boys hair cut. A very clever man

I think the 'Elizabeth I Wristwatch' is proof of this duo's ability to hide, from a writing perspective, one joke behind another. As Ronnie Barker once suggested on a chat-show: 'I think words are the funniest things you can say...'
You may not be aware of the Teddy Boys hairstyle reference. Back in the day - late 50s more or less - the fashion for some young men was the teddy boy look, long jackets, tight pants, and a hairstyle that had a big quiff at the front and was swept back at the sides so that the back resembled a duck's behind, or DA - duck's arse.

Btw "your dinners down the chip shop" is a reference to the the great Britain institute the "chippy" most households have a chippy tea on a Friday/Saturday night , I'm going to have one myself later fish and chips with lashings of salt and vinegar 👍

@@TheRealSquirrel I live up North which is the home of the chippy tea, fish, chips and mushy peas (🤢) usually cost around £6, down south your looking at £10-12 and it's not served properly because some places give you a slice of lemon on the fish (🤢) another northern chippy speciality is a sausage dinner which is 2 sausages, chips, mushy peas and gravy, yet some chippys down south don't do gravy 🤔 it's now 1.37pm here in Liverpool so roll on about 8pm when I get my fish and chips 😋
I was watching a 3 videos of Glasgow’s “Gerry Cinnamon Don’t throw your pint”. He calls out guy and rips him a new hole in Australia, offers to fight similar clowns at gigs, in the uk, you will love Glasgows street-hard accent too

I think it was Jo Brand who picked this as her favourite Two Ronnies sketch when they did a celebration some years ago, she said the best part is how surely nothing can beat the punchline "It's a duck!" yet it keeps on going and just getting funnier.
I was born in Redhill, but lived in Purley....between Croydon and the coast!!!!
But the A33 doesn't go anywhere near Croydon.

@@martindunstan8043 I know! I love Fork Handles, but once the premise of "mis-hearing" is established it gets a bit repetitive. The gags are rather contrived - for example, I can't imagine anyone simply asking for "Os" when they specifically want a plastic letter "O" to put on a sign - and I've yet to find a hardware store that sells running shoes, bicycle pumps _and_ tins of peas :)
Ah, yes, the Argentinian Racing Pigeon. Very similar to a duck in every way but with one subtle difference. They have one extra feather to what a duck has!
Still hilarious even after all theses years......brilliant!

Hi Squirrel This sketch always has me in tears of laughter. I think with all comedy duos it's an advantage to have one big guy and one little guy. Another great sketch is the Rook Restaurant although you might have problems with the English play on words.

I've just remembered Big Jim Jehosaphat & Fat Belly Jones were the two characters in the end of show musical production from one of their early series - I haven't seen it since it first aired back in the 70s but I remember laughing a lot at the time. I remember one line from one of the songs went "Up in the loft where the oil lamp flickers, I lost my heart and she lost her parasol" but of course the last word would have been knickers if they made it rhyme... I'm off now to try and find it to see if it still makes me laugh.

its ironic....but ducks are in the top ten fastest birds in level flight (honest..look it up)...the mallard is the fastest duck of all...so his racing duck..would have beaten any racing pidgeon on the planet..as micheal caine would say.."not a lot of people know that"..lol
