    Wow, that LH farm axe bites into the wood. The pattern looks perfect for hardwoods, definitely agreed it takes after the jerseys.

    Great honest video , I have #62 in the LAMACA’s I found that the work axe needed a micro bevel ( Australian hardwood) to stop the rolling. Looking forward to seeing more , thanks.

    I do have so very old True Tempers I’d put up against some of those high dollar axes. I have a double bit True Temper and old Collins that are wicked double bit axes. I’d love to figure out a way to buy some really high dollars axes. My workout for three years now is chopping a 42" red oak into. It’s a great workout and you can see your progress. I do have some acreage that needs to be cleared up of some smaller trees so my plan is to build a cabin and a dug out with the young trees I take out. I plan on fitting them as I go no matter tree type, kinda just a see if I can do it kind of thing so therefore I’m watching all you guys and gals on RUclips to show me the Ins and outs. This video has been really informative. I would see if I could video the progress from start to finish but no one wants to see a 62 year old rookie cabin builder and I can laugh and bitch at myself and no one will know! 😂 Again thanks for this video. I may can afford one or two high dollar axes. I need a few good draw knifes as well.

    Cool nit picky review! Agreed, in expensive axes like these the little details count. Great to see another Lamaca get some use on YT! I have lamaca work axe, it's a bit thinner than I was expecting but has become one of my go-to axes over the last year or so. Fit and finish is perfect, and love the handle. Like Ivan in the comments here, on our Aussie hardwoods I got a bit of chipping on the factory 17° edge, backed it off to 20° and its held up exceptionally well.
    Great to see the Hoffmans being swung at some decent bucking timber. Not a huge fan of the handles but the heads seem to perform well. Good job mate👍

    At that kind of a price point, it damn well better be absolutely perfect. Head, handle, and fit and finish. ..
    Period!!!. Otherwise I would keep sending it back until they did it right in all aspects of the tool as well as the user.

      I cant say I blame you because it is a lot of money to be spending on an axe

  • @richardweilandt3315
    @richardweilandt3315 2 года назад +1

    All the axes did what they were supposed to do, chop wood. However, I think the first 2 axes you used bit deeper into the wood so you ended up working less to notch the log.
    I'm not to impressed with the coldsteel trail boss, it seems like it did not bite as deep as the others. Not gonna dog it for that, just saying I could be wrong. I Like the double bit axe best as it does double duty, felling with one side and limbing/trimming with the other. Nice to see the Council tools axe in use. I'm considering their double bit saddle axe for camp chore use. I use a Gerber Gator Combo with knife in the handle for woods survival use, the short handle makes it head or weight forward heavy but will handle emergency use and carcass processing easily. But like I said, that double bit is gorgeous, bites deep and fast.

    The curvy handle on the farm axe is there to compensate for the weight forward head design. (Huge bit)

    I can’t believe how tight that grain is on the Lamaca axes. It doesn’t even look like the hickory I have in my handles that have 10-12 grain lines in the handle, that Lamaca looked like 20-30 grain lines. Also, are you sure the “crack” on the Lamaca work axe sheath isn’t from the toe/heel cutting into it during the UPS shipment?

    • @RandomAmerican
      @RandomAmerican  Год назад

      The only crack I can remember right now is the one in the light forest axe and it's possible thats its just a trick of the eye so I'm not making a big fuss over it

    • @RandomAmerican
      @RandomAmerican  Год назад

      Prices can be a little tricky because of what is going on aftermarket but I paid 450 for the farm axe (new), 375 for the camp axe (new), 375 for the wasatch (used), 60 for the council tool (new), 50 for the trail boss (new), and 1,100 for all 3 lamacas (used). Also if you would like yo get into doing a video on making a cabin then I say more power to you and you may as well do it. As far as a good draw knife I just have a $20 one from ebay that I use a lot and it does really well

    Awesome video. I'm waiting on my 2.25, farm, and 3lb in that order and this makes me super excited to receive them. I am considering the straight handle on the farm now, based on your feedback. How tall are you? I'm 6'4 and have average hands so i prefer slightly longer handles.
