That was brutal! If anyone were to ever do that to a badass hand forged axe in any normal situation they must have had previous head trauma. I'm very impressed with your product. S7 is some tough steel!
and this is what I've tried to explain to other axe guys that forge axes harden your poles especially on wedge bangers I have timber faller buddy's on the Oregon coast that would buy them in a heartbeat
I can see why you harden the whole head, I have an old plum rafter with a hardened pull, the pull is in good shape but the cheeks have deformed over the years and bent a bit, I could see your rafter holding up better long term.
Awesome test of the axe! Impressive tools. Is that a poplar wedge? I started using white oak in my splitters because my poplars would always come out. I think the repeated smashing compresses the poplar too much. White oak seems to hood up a bit better.
New subscriber here, but I have been following you through Gordy and Jake for a while! Brother you build one mean axe for sure! Pops, "then let me swing", now that's funny! Son, "what do I gotta say", ummm, maybe "like father, like son" 🤣 Would love to have one of your splitting axes in my collection and being a mostly retired feller/logger, I will someday have one. Thanks for your videos and being a Great craftsman!
I know ya'll are professionals.. and said with much respect. Amazing tools and workmanship....But.....Where are your SAFETY GLASSES....Come on Brother....Much Respect and concern from St Petersburg Florida....
Damn! Nice job Conrad, good way to prove your workmanship.
Thank you! I hoped people would understand how much of a beating this was.

Thanks!
Did not know you hardened the entire head. I like it! Love the stamp! Love the axe. I need one 😁
Thanks, the theory is my stamps will last longer with a hardened body if someone 50 years from now decides to hammer with the side of the axe.

That is exactly why I harden them. Definitely don't want them deforming with time.

Thanks, it's a jatoba wedge. I was experimenting with not gluing the wedge and learned glue is actually important.
