  • Mike Sigel vs Efren Reyes from the 2000 US Open 14.1 Championships.
47 year old Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel, is known as one of the greatest straight pool players of all time. He won three World 14.1 Championships during his career and was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 1989.
Efren “The Magician” Reyes, 46 at the time of this match, is accepted by most fans as the greatest all around player of all time. While 14.1 may not be Efren’s best game, he is a feared opponent at any game that involves balls and stick. Efren would be inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 2003.
Billy Incardona and Nick Varner enjoyed this match from the commentary booth.

I doubt it takes that much effort. Basically, they post the ones that were won by Efren and ignore the majority, which were won by Sigel. Earl Strickland is the only player in history with a winning record against Mike Sigel. This includes Efren Reyes. I'm not saying that takes anything away from Efren Reyez. The man is incredible, but let's not make it sound like he made Sigel his bitch. It couldn't further from the truth

@@saviorself1164 Were there a lot of televised games where Sigel beat Efren? I really can't recall seeing any myself.
I admit that Efren's my favorite, but whenever anyone asks him who his toughest opponent has been, he always credits Mike Sigel. I assume most people understand Mike had a good record against Efren, probably mostly from untelevised money matches. I heard Mike was godly for the dough and only got better the more there was on the line.

Interesting how, after Reyes’ win, the commentators focused on making excuses for Sigel rather than complimenting Efren’s play. And Efren’s humility and self-deprecation during the interview fed their praise for his opponent. Efren Bata Reyes: the graceful winner and GOAT! ❤️

    • @steves2241

They did that because Sigel is a big straight pool player, with way more experience in that game than Reyes, so he was a big favorite, and it was considered an upset for Reyes to beat Sigel.

Straight pool, also called 14.1 shoot any ball in any order have to leave one ball to break the next rack open. Once there's only one ball left they rack the balls and you have to make that one ball you left on the table and break up the rack. There's a set number of pocketed balls you have to reach. In this match whoever makes 150 balls first when's.

As usual, Billy and Nick spent the match kissing up to Mike Segil. Glad to see The Magician put a beating on Segil.

The commentators, I know they are pool players and they have their take on things but they aren't Efren the GOAT. Fortunately, we didn't have to hear Mike 'the mouth' Sigel during this match.

I can't understand why people like watching segil. He is so slow. He does more walking around the table, measuring the same shot over and over and talking than he does actually playing the game. Then after all the time wasting measuring shot over and over he completely tanks the shot and misses by a mile. He's infuriating to watch.
