- Mike Sigel vs Efren Reyes from the 2000 US Open 14.1 Championships.
47 year old Mike “Captain Hook” Sigel, is known as one of the greatest straight pool players of all time. He won three World 14.1 Championships during his career and was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 1989.
Efren “The Magician” Reyes, 46 at the time of this match, is accepted by most fans as the greatest all around player of all time. While 14.1 may not be Efren’s best game, he is a feared opponent at any game that involves balls and stick. Efren would be inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 2003.
Billy Incardona and Nick Varner enjoyed this match from the commentary booth.

This match is a proof that Efren can play any type of discipline in pool. And that cross bank on the 3 ball was gutsy!

17:00 Efren shows us why he is the GOAT!😲
This game deserves 100M views. Awesome. Great. Fantastic!!!
That interview at the end though 1:46:36
"Every time he scratch, yiheeee lucky!" - So childlike!!! How can you not love this guy?
I can only imagine how much time and effort goes into what matches to publish here on RUclips. So, thank you Accu-Stats for all you do and giving us this beautiful gem.
I doubt it takes that much effort. Basically, they post the ones that were won by Efren and ignore the majority, which were won by Sigel. Earl Strickland is the only player in history with a winning record against Mike Sigel. This includes Efren Reyes. I'm not saying that takes anything away from Efren Reyez. The man is incredible, but let's not make it sound like he made Sigel his bitch. It couldn't further from the truth
@@saviorself1164 Were there a lot of televised games where Sigel beat Efren? I really can't recall seeing any myself.
I admit that Efren's my favorite, but whenever anyone asks him who his toughest opponent has been, he always credits Mike Sigel. I assume most people understand Mike had a good record against Efren, probably mostly from untelevised money matches. I heard Mike was godly for the dough and only got better the more there was on the line.
Unbelievable watching efren play against mike at mike’s discipline. It truly shows how great efren really is.
Not taking away from mike. He is in my top 5 players of all time. I am truly blessed to be alive today to watch these guys. Unbelievable.
Interesting how, after Reyes’ win, the commentators focused on making excuses for Sigel rather than complimenting Efren’s play. And Efren’s humility and self-deprecation during the interview fed their praise for his opponent. Efren Bata Reyes: the graceful winner and GOAT! ❤️
They did that because Sigel is a big straight pool player, with way more experience in that game than Reyes, so he was a big favorite, and it was considered an upset for Reyes to beat Sigel.
The video is top notch for a video from 2000.
Every time you guys post one of these older Classics featuring "The Goat, Efren Reyes", an Angel gets it's wings. 😊
Well done gentlemen, thoroughly enjoyed this match, as most do when Efren is floating around the table with his smooth and effortlessly precise shooting.
STRAIGHT may not be a game he's played a ton, but like every other form of billiards.... once he gets comfortable with it 😓 not many are gonna beat him.
Cheers...
Stayed for the interview at the end . Worth it for sure . I get a kick out of Efren .
I love it every time they interview Efren he has got the biggest smile.....smile of the GOAT💯
yesssssss
I’d love to see more straight pool on here. Especially with match ups with these two! Any straight pool with efren tho is great to watch.
🙏❤🙏 I sincerely thank you for uploading this video and allowing us the opportunity to watch these two legendary players ( Along with two legendary commentators and players ) - Thank you for your positive impact on world-class pocket billiards along with 3-Cushion billiard ( In all it's many facets ) 🙏❤🙏
17:10 break shot by efren is very impressive ,
In every language I’ve heard the announcers just laugh at how well Efren shoots.
LOVED THE INTERVIEW 😁
another gem! thanks accu-stats
Awesome match THANK you accustats
Loved the interview. Efren is so humble and funny same time 😂
Nobody has ever seen a player like Efrom. Cause they'res never been a player named Efrom.
their match in 2005 is still epic 8-0 in favor of Efren.. thats right after Mike saying he has been playing for 40yrs and playing perfectly..
Mike embarrassed himself in that match. He had a lot of good chances but chose the wrong opening shots. And he just talked and complained instead of focusing and shooting. He looked like an amateur. I don't think Mike is as good as people say. I've never seen him do anything super impressive.
“Every time he scratch..Yehee….lucky!”
I’m dead! 😂😂😂
Thank you Gents!!! That was fun! Be Safe
Very patient, cool, in control. Very relaxed compared to Mike’s style of play.
agree display of humility & respect that's the GOAT
Efren: Everytime he scratch "Yeepee". Hahahahahaha
Another game to remind us whos pools greatest. Thank u efren
Thank you for this yet another treasure Accu-Stats! Great job!👍👍👍👍👍
In 2024 I love waiting for the commentators to realize how good Efren is... even though he isn't in the good ol boys club.
I wish we could hear the players talking to the ref more the audio is very low on that part which is honestly sad
I'm so glad that the camera stays on the pool table instead of going around the room watching Mike Siegel flap his lips.
Efren attributed his win over Sigel to Sigel. He said that the reason he's winning because Mike kept scratching. It's for people to say that Efren is really the better player. Or the best.
Could not imagine how Sigel's reaction he thaught thst he could distract EFREN REYES😅😅😅 BUT HE SHOWS Sigel a real thing 🎉🎉 bravo EFREN REYES BRING HOME EVERYTHING❤❤
Let’s do it Pat
Top players at this time 😮
The “Magician” shows you why they call him that. Great match!!!
One of my favorite eras of pool. I wish they still dressed formally like this.
Thank you for another great match, Accustats!
Yes sir thank you for all the great matches but I have a request would like to see jimmy Reid play thanks
Why is it that Americans find it impossible to say EFREN....and i find it impossible to stay awake with sigel even the very first shot of the match...takes an eternity to play a daft shot and msses by a country mile...then looks sort of shocked that he missed!
Almost as crazy as watching Johnny Archer or Alan Hopkins. Almost
Mike is infuriating to watch. Measures the same shot 20 times, chalks his cue 50 times, talks the whole time and when he finally shoots he completely tanks it. He's a joke. Even in his prime he couldn't compete with today's players. People think he's the greatest of all time... please. He's not even top 10 in my book.
Thanks, as always, accustats!
i like the commentary. it help me understand the strategy of this game
So the commentators mentioned Cosmo: a guy that did a lot of “stop shots” when playing pool.
Question:
Who is this Cosmo guy, what’s his real name?
Thanks
look at Mike still talking about his scratch he's probably gonna be telling that story to everybody he runs into from now on for the rest of his life. Efren is like yeah whatever man.
Efren the GOAT, my favorite player along with Van Boening and a couple others.
Come on Nicky..if Efren is still going, what's stopping you?!
Sigel was the biggest Clown in the Billard Circus 😂 the first 5min😂
Like any sport the game has evolved so much if Mike sigel was in his prime right now his game would be a joke he would be ranked 500 out of 500 and a lot of people who know nothing will try and dispute this but I’m spitting straight facts he was only good in his time because the quality of players isn’t like their is now.
I think it's also because he was not consistently playing. You have Reyes who is beyond his prime already and still continues to play and still kicking with the best of the best.
Mike "the Mouth" Sigel looks underdog in his own game with the Magician.
Willie and Ralph and of course Irvine
Are smiling down on Efren
what game is this and how do you play it?
Straight pool, also called 14.1 shoot any ball in any order have to leave one ball to break the next rack open. Once there's only one ball left they rack the balls and you have to make that one ball you left on the table and break up the rack. There's a set number of pocketed balls you have to reach. In this match whoever makes 150 balls first when's.
It's good to have another aspiring young Filipino pool players to follow efren Reyes footsteps, so that there'll be other name to continue the Philippine pride in world pool history!!!
Mr. Efren is a smooth Q- driver with control.❤
this 2 man are legend ❤❤
Score board please
Hey Nip.. his name is Efren, NOT Efrem!
Efren is the best and very enjoyable to watch play. Other greats are not so for some reason. Maybe his personality and demeanor, but definitely his "touch" !!!
I just watched Sigel on his with couple other other greats. Sigel did not give Efren any respect. Efren is the greatest pool player to ever hold a stick.
Insane. His run to 42 had to feel like a dagger to sigel.
We all know & watched how efren plays on any of all kinds of pool games & he plays excellent on all of these & he encountered all the great players all over the world on billiard pool related games & he's really amazing!!!
It funny how he doesn’t do anything the commentator say
Why others are calling Mike one of the greatest still mystifies me. I have not seen any video of him winning any significant tournament. All i hear and read are the million excuses every time he loses. Just pathetic.
Three time US open champion. Three time world straight pool champion. You need a video of all his accomplishments? Look up his 150 and out run.
Only watched because of Efren....Mike talks n complains too much....lol
Efren should remind himself to bring his portable chess each time he plays Mike - that way boredom does not set in.
Efren made Sigel looks ordinary. GOAT
yessssss
No Mike hasn't been playing Matches for what 5 - 6 yrs., while Efren is ALWAYS playing. There's a reason why the words Tournament Tough has profound meaning with Pro players. It's a major determining factor where you'll be on the flowchart!
Cheers!
@@bonhzeppelin55poor excuse. Give Efren some credit. When Mike wins no one says he's been off for X amount of games.
greatest of all talk...goat
@@bonhzeppelin55 what a worse excuses, mike himself is a cocky mf and be victim when he lost btch move right there
These two commentators trying to tell the G.O.A.T. how to play. Hilarious.
Was this match before or after Mike broke his stick?
From an interview with Efren, Mike Sigel is the best competitor he has fought.
17:10 amazing 😮
Efren always played so strong with a old school Steele joint hard maple shaft like he's playing with here. Idk what it was? Looks like a Schon..
That is the cue he used 1999 championship in cardiff which he won. I dont think its schon cos most schon wraps is not smooth efren likes it smooth. What i heard is this cue develop a rattle and someone bought it and efren replaced it with ER cues. 😊

Is this the kind of player u been saying one of the greatest player.. does khnow how to prepare for next ball.. ?…
No one can tell or predict what Efren's brain is thinking on how to hit those balls ❤
That is one of the best parts is hearing the commentators try to predict what effern is going to do with his shot
@@RobertGibbs-iq4wp and laugh their A$$ O## when they realized they're wrong 😂 ✌️
What is this game called ??
Straight pool. Objective is to make everything because the score is counted per ball pocketed. They were racing to 150 balls pocketed I believe
Sigel can never defeat Efren
Sigel is NOT programmed for straight pool.😢
I just saw in another video, Mike Sigel was saying that Efren cannot beat him in straight pool. Hahaha.
He's the mouth in my book
Efren Reyes had already proved himself as the real G. O. A. T. or the greatest of all time!!!
Efrens shot @16:50 is insane
Reyes may well be the best of all-time. But how do we know? Is there a metric that would cover all games--primarily 14.1 and 9-ball?
Efren Reyes have a Very experience Skill on the Cue (key) he knows his magic shot where the ball will set the way he wants, He is a good pool player no matter what, i am niit a pool player but what i see many of his shot he is good
efren reyes played almost all day since he was a kid and efren is very deciplined player. if you win to efren its either your lucky or maybe efren gave that match to his opponent. great game godbless to them both
Back when professional pool players had personalities.
Some uninformed and uneducated comments about mike. He played his best in the late 60s-80s. This video is from 2000.
Who is commentating with Billy İncardiona? Nick Varner?
Yes :)
what was up with efrens first break
sergeant hook not captain hook demoted coz he's no match to Efren Reyes hehehe!!
Sigel took two and a half minutes surveying his first shot which he scratched on. This guy needs to be playing on a shot clock.
😊😊😊😊Efren is the GOAT!! Mike is the Grass🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!!
Sigel "was" the Goat like many others - Reyes "is" the Goat
this is how i practice pool. if i miss a shot, all the rest of the balls go back on the table. i just spread them out so i don't have to break
17:12 just saving that for later
People tell me to play straight pool to become a better player. So I try to watch videos about it. And it puts me to sleep. I realize i am ignorant about the game. But its just so slow. Don’t want to offend anyone. Maybe a little like watching chess
Rotation is much better go watch it how filipino plays rotation alcano and efren said it rotation is much better than straight pool
Well if you don’t know how to play it correctly then you should try. Slow or not. This game will improve your 9 ball and 8 ball game. The game will humble you.
@@330devans totally agree. And wish I could. Only nobody in my surroundings plays the game. So I am kind of stuck watching a game I don’t understand
@@mrfrano100 straight is the one game where you just set up a break ball and just play and challenge yourself to really look at patterns and position. It’s hard to keep a run going and give yourself a break ball to get into the rack. People don’t play it because it’s hard. Then again I like chess too. Lol
Haha..the great mouthful mike 😅
GOAT against the talkative Mike hehehe mis- match
Love it when Mike the tweeker loses. Lol. He’s got more ticks than a timex.
When Mike was playing at the Top of his game & stroke he was finer than a Swiss Watch. Ask Efren about how Great Sigel WAS when he was active on the Pro Tour Winning Major Titles.
@@bonhzeppelin55 talk about today not yesterday.
As usual, Billy and Nick spent the match kissing up to Mike Segil. Glad to see The Magician put a beating on Segil.
mike is a boring pool player,,,keeps walking around the table,
just to hide & so they don't notice he's no match to the calibre of the GOAT
Mike makes me itching even before his first shot. 3:07
Ko để rơi bi chắc ông siger ko dk chơi ấy nhỉ 😂
I would hate to see him play 1-pocket!
Sigel, the most disgusting player ever to pick up a cue.
Dumb comment
Nick calling Reyes Efraim the entire time. Geez
The commentators, I know they are pool players and they have their take on things but they aren't Efren the GOAT. Fortunately, we didn't have to hear Mike 'the mouth' Sigel during this match.
I can't understand why people like watching segil. He is so slow. He does more walking around the table, measuring the same shot over and over and talking than he does actually playing the game. Then after all the time wasting measuring shot over and over he completely tanks the shot and misses by a mile. He's infuriating to watch.
