Viola Davis should’ve won for her role in Doubt over Penelope Cruz. Davis was a masterclass in that film, even though she was only on screen for mere minutes
I agree. One of the best 10-ish minute performances of all time (some other favourites of mine being Montgomery Clift and Judy Garland with their respective appearances as witnesses in Judgment at Nuremberg). I'm a massive Amy Adams fan, but Davis deserved to win that year.
Now I haven't seen Doubt so I'm not sure I should say anything more there. But Viola should be a 2 time winner...Fences and she shoulda got her lead for The Help.
Just gotta say Amy Adams over Anne Hathaway is a hot take. She is literally my favorite actress, however that role was not really a stand out from her. She should have won for Junebug, American Hustle, or Arrival (snubbed the nomination that year).
Saw Michael Clayton at cinema, I enjoyed it. The only scene I have remembered was Tilda Swinton, her final confrontation, that visceral moment in her eyes and body, when her world shattered, and crashed to her feet.
Not fair because Kate Blanchett is amazing in every movie she does! I think Marissa Tomei did deserve her Oscar. Comedic roles are always deemed less worthy than dramatic one's but it takes a certain level of skill to pull one off successfully. Marissa did that in 'My Cousin Vinny.'
I agree with u. Comedic performances are always overlooked by academy voters Few appreciated Marissa Tomei's performance in My Cousin Vinny but she deserved the Oscars.
Marisa Tomei is a fantastic actress, as the rest of her career has surely shown. She was absolutely deserving of her Oscar. She's flat-out hilarious in "Vinny."
Beatrice Straight gave one of the most memorable scenes ever on the Silver Screen in "NETWORK". She deserved and won the Best Supporting Award for one of the most touching scenes in movie history.
@@joelm6632 I mean she had a lot of scenes and was fantastic in it, maybe not enough to make her deserve a win. I think she should have won for Nocturnal Animals easily, but wasn't even nominated
carl hiller yeah I really like Amy Adams I think she’s one of the best actresses around she’s brilliant in junebug, doubt, arrival, American hustle, nocturnal animals and she’s even pretty great in catch me if you can, I just remember being surprised that she was nominated for the master I don’t remember much about her at all in the film
Gotta disagree with you about Marcia Gay Harden. That performance was explosive. Loved it. Kate Hudson was excellent, too. Academy had two really great options in that category, but I would've voted for Harden myself.
I think Marisa Tomei was an interesting choice, but I have seen her performance and she gives a great performance. Just because it was a comedic performance, doesn't mean it wasn't spectacular. I do agree however that Amy Adam's should have gotten at least one Oscar by now. I think she should of been nominated for "Blue Eyes" and "The Arrival", but I think her performance in "The Master" should have been her winning moment.
I love Judi Dench, but the only reason she won for Shakespeare in Love was because they paid her back for the year before when she should have won for Mrs. Brown. Amy Adams definitely should have won for Doubt too.
Not true, she won because Harvey Weinstein made it happen, thats why Gwyneth's awful performance won best actress and the movie got best movie Oscar too
for the dishonorable mentions: i also wouldn't have given the Oscar to Kim Basinger, but also not to Julianne Moore; i would've given it to Gloria Stuart instead.
I have to object with #6. If I'm not mistaken, Jennifer Hudson swept the awards season that year. Thus, basically everyone from Guilds, to actors, to associations thought she was the Best Actress in a Supporting role that year.
Having watched Dreamgirls many times I will firmly say that film has two females leads with two equally big roles. But agree on Viola, and many others.....
I love the Amy Adams love, I think she is a great actress who should have two Oscars by now. One of then for Junebug, Rachel Weisz leading performance in the constant gardener, while very good, was not in the same league as Adam's. To me one of the worst Oscars for S. Actress. While I do agree with some of the 'mistakes' mentioned, I do not understand why Tilda Swinton would be in such a list. I can understand the love for Blanchett's performance but winners like Olympia Dukakis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Octavia Spenser or Eileen Heckart (just to name a few) would be much more deserving of that spot than Tilda (plus Swinton's performance brings no shame to the award since it was just outstanding).
Amy adams has been screwed over many times- doubt, the master and her amazing performances in arrival and nocturnal animals...she wasn't even nominated for either...
Although Judys part was small in Judgment at Nuremberg, it was great enough to get her nominated for best supporting actress. Her performance on the witness stand deserved the Oscar. No offense to Rica Moreno. According to Spencer Tracy, Judy froze the entire cast and crew when she broke down on the witness stand.
I agree, and also think Montgomery Clift should have won for a similarly vulnerable and heartfelt witness performance in that film. Both their performances had a fragility that was ahead of their time.
Finally! Someone agrees with me that Tatum O'Neal only won because her Dad pulled the strings in order for her to be cast alongside him, and the Academy felt obligated to honor her!
Tatum Oneal shouldnt have even been in that category. She was in virtually every scene in Paper Moon and should not qualified as supporting!!!! Same thing with Timothy Hutton winning supporting oscar for Ordinary People!! Wrong category!! He was the lead!!
In 1977 Piper Laurie (Carrie's Mother) should have won over Beatrice Straight. Or Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. An honorable mention should go to Zelda Rosenstein for Poltergeist, who wasn't even nominated for that performance from the 80s.
Number 1 should be Diane Ladd robbed of the Oscar by Ingrid Bergman. Both Ellen Burstyn, who did win Best Actress, and Ms. Ladd nominated for Supporting, should have collectively brought home the gold.
Judy Davis (who I adore) over Tomei? Nope! To this day, everyone still talks about how great she was in My Cousin Vinny, not that she won an Oscar. Hardly anyone recalls Davis' performance much less what she was even nominated for that year. So screw you Rex Reed for starting that awful rumor because you were so upset with Tomei's win.
Never understood the Geena Davis hate; she was first-rate in The Accidental Tourist and she deserved that Oscar(though I would've been more than fine with a Michelle Pfeiffer win). As for the rest, Mira Sorvino was always a head scratcher for me, especially over Joan Allen's superior performance in Nixon. And I always thought, of all her nominated performances, that Amy Adams was truly robbed for The Fighter, especially in lieu of Melissa Leo's scenery chewing chowdown from the same film.
Geena Davis and Marissa Tomei's Oscars for Best Supporting Actress are the most inexcusable cases of "category fraud." .Both actresses of those roles were leading. I would add Katherine Zeta Jones to this list as well.
Actually, the academy was set to award Linda Blair with the oscar until Mercedes McCambridge blew the whistle and told all she did all the sound effects of the demon.
Anna Paquin was incredible in the piano, she enabled holly Hunter's character and was superb for such a young actress. I think she was the worthy winner. Btw, I think Toni Collette was robbed for the sixth sense
Jennifer hudson was such a weird choice for that oscar...i mean her acting wasn't bad but she pretty much sang most of her lines...and her singing wasn't even that good!
Thanks! My #1 oscar mistakes best supportig actress would be 1974 Tatum o'Neal in Paper Moon over Linda Blair in the Exorcist. That was such an iconic role and the film has become a true classical movie. But who remembers Paper Moon?
I personally love Paper Moon, but I agree with you. My issue with this isn't Tatum O'Neal because I think she's fantastic in it. It's basically category fraud, Tatum O'Neal was the lead and had the leading performance in the film, she's in every scene and the movie is about her character... so her nomination for supporting is weird, she should've got nominated for LEAD ACTRESS. I'd give her the Oscar over Glenda Jackson in A Touch of Class any day. However, my personal win that year is Ellen Burstyn in The Exorcist.
I'm a bit prejudice, because I find the Exorcist such an iconic and fascinating movie. But yes, she Ellen Burstyn wa my favorite as well. But she won it one or two years later with "Alice doesn't live here any more". Thanks for you video and your gracious reply.
@East Kazz, agree. (Paper Moon happens to be one of my favorite movies). I think the tendency of the Academy back then was to reward child actors who gave worthy performances with a supporting Oscar as opposed to leading actor/actress award.
So glad you included Beatrice straight in that. She was barely even in the film and I don't know how he even gave her an Oscar for that. At least with Judi Dench she got robbed the year before for mrs. Brown.
Patricia Clarkson was amazing in "Pieces of April." I missed the film when it first came out in the '90's but saw it a few years ago, One of my favorite "holiday" films. :-)

She was robbed bc they put Patty Duke in best supporting category which her character and anne Bancroft character were the 2 main characters in the miracle worker. The 2 of them should have been battling out for best actress this making Lansbury easily win as supporting
I'm totally agree with this list, Renée Zellwegwr and Penelope Cruz are two of the most annoying over estimated actresses ever I don't hink they are talented at all, they just had a good boost from Hollywood producers but that's all

Sally field should’ve won for Lincoln
I agree that Gloria Stuart should have won.
Why is Marisa and Anne on this?
Whoopi Goldberg over Annette Bening??/? Dude, what you smoking. Now Whoopi Goldberg over Loraine Bracco, then I’d be inclined to agree.
Annette bening was really god in the grifters
Amy Adams should have won
Agreed - however Marisa Tomei deserved it big time!
Regina king over Rachel Weisz
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda
I must say: you really like cate and amy...lol😂
Shohreh Aghdashloo should've won over Renee Zellweger.
I agree
Amy Adams is great
1974 Linda Blair over Tatum O’Neill
I'm not sure about most of these but yes to Kate Winslet.
Totally! It was the first Oscar the robbed her of
Quite true
i think Frances McDormant should've won over Geena Davis, there wasn't rlly anything special abt Sigourney Weavers role in Working Girl
wrong she did a hell of a job at being a b$tch- -u would never make it on the academy
Sirgourney is my win that year, hilarious comedic performance and role. She elevated the film whenever she was in the scene.
East Kazz in my opinion , she was just more deserving in Gorillas in the Mist
Yeah well, but Glenn Close is my winner for Dangerous Liaisons.
Alicia Vikander should have won for her now lowkey iconic performance in Ex-Machina, instead of the forgettable Danish Girl.
Does anyone think Beatrice straight should have won the Oscar
Helena Bonham Carter should have won over Melissa Leo in 2010.
Adamthygreat I disagree. Melissa Leo deserved it.
vpl7582 The King's Speech was also overrated, should have gone to Jacki Weaver
Sharon stone,,, casino
Ebony Clara YES!

Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett should win every time they are nominated. It is also difficult to argue with Judi Dench winning. She is a superb actress.
Amy Adams should have won, yes, but for DOUBT.
Agree with all. Undeserved.
Amy Adams!!!
Anne was Amazing

Yup. Patricia Clarkson should have won.
Angela Lansbury should have won over Patty Duke
Eso si fue un robo
Ángela landsbury has been robbed at the Oscars and at the Emmys. She's gotten her proper recognition on Broadway.
fully agree
She was robbed bc they put Patty Duke in best supporting category which her character and anne Bancroft character were the 2 main characters in the miracle worker. The 2 of them should have been battling out for best actress this making Lansbury easily win as supporting
I'm totally agree with this list, Renée Zellwegwr and Penelope Cruz are two of the most annoying over estimated actresses ever I don't hink they are talented at all, they just had a good boost from Hollywood producers but that's all
Angelina Jolie was great in GIRL INTERUPTED!!!
