I have the 42mm Oris diver 65 black dial on a rubber strap and it's fantastic. I believe if you plan on going into water a rubber strap is the way to go. Also I may look into purchasing the bracelet to swap out since changing straps seems to be pretty simple.
I never understand arguing water resistance numbers. It's unnecessary since there would only be a handful of actual divers in the world that would ever go to such depths and they wouldn't taking these sorts of watches any way. So for us normal folk 100m, 200m or 300m is more than enough.
I was heavily considering a Longines Hydroconquest and was thinking at maybe other options for a good 2000$ diver, the Rado is definitely on my mind now, Oris is meh
Ceramic bezel, thinner, cheaper, better water resistance. I own neither but it seems like the Rado is a clear winner here if you like the styling of both equally!
Having owned both at different times, imo, Rado is just better engineered overall with an exception of micro adjustments on the clasp. If I had the money to keep both, I would but if I have to choose one, I'd go with Captain Cook and this is coming from an Oris fan
This is good info. For me, the Rado CC is a bit like the Seiko Sumo: highly unique case design. Still I would probably go for the Oris, but it's a toss up.
The RADO with the oyster bracelet has micro adjustments plus it’s rated to 300 meters. It’s cheaper than the lower spec watch with the beads of rice bracelet rated at 200 meters.
Oris Divers 65 all day long. More prominent domed crystal, thinner bezel, wears closer to classic case size and narrower crown, which all speaks the vintage language, at least to me. Nice job on the review Teddy.
I would go for the Rado! But now I’m looking for the Mido Ocean Star GMT, I wrote to you about this watch and Gabe responded that soon you will be a Mido AD so I’m waiting for you to get it from your store. Nice video, keep the good work my friend!
Love the 'Captain Cook'. But, The Lug Width of 21mm, and more so, the lack of Micro Adjustments, (Grrrrrrr !) is a real disappointment. Have I mentioned, just how beautiful the Captain Cook, is ??? ( damn it !)
Certina does a retro diver with the same caliber as the 2k Rado. It also has sapphire, 200m, ceramic bezel. It has an open back, too and a richer history. At half the price.
Hey Teddy... Great work as usual. Superb information density and so well articulated. As a late blooming 58 year old enthusiast here in Alberta, Canada, working my way up the horological food chain, I had a close look at these two pieces not long ago. I agree that a person could not go far wrong with either of these. Nevertheless, I ended up choosing the Tag Heuer Autavia, blue on stainless steel. It was a few dollars more, but I’m very pleased. I still want the Captain Cook though. I think it really pops, especially in green. I wonder if you might feature some Breitling product in the near-ish future. I would consume your thoughts voraciously. Thanks, and keep on rocking.
Two interesting watches for sure. My favorite is by far the Rado. I like more the beads of rice bracelet, the ceramic bezel and most important the power reserve of its movement.
I was into the oris but in person for some reason it didn't click with me. Rado on the other hand when I saw it in person it was even better than I anticipated. I feel there's more care for details, the domed dial, the sloping bezel all these thing intrigued me. Also I think due to the design oris felt big and Rado didn't feel 42mm at all. Both great but I chose captain cook.
Teddy Baldassare should be the next ambassador for Rado watches, as a vlogger/model, I really think it suits your style. Anyone who agrees please hit the LIKE button. 👍
Hey Teddy. Both watches are awesome, but definitely the Rado is a more complete diver watch. The size I think is perfect for the purpose, lug to lug makes it more wearable for different type of wrists, ceramic bezel, etc. Only thing I don’t like about captain Cook is the 21 mm bracelet width. Would love to see it on a 20 to make it more versatile.
I looked at both. Ended up with the Captain Cook and so happy I did. The watch is amazing! Bezel on the Oris felt cheap and flimsy. Otherwise I liked it too. The silver dial version of the Oris is beautiful. But the back is just engraved. Had a hard time with that too. Rado was just a better watch for me. Great job Teddy!
I've never had the Captain Cook on wrist, but i did see it in a Jewellers window and it looked fantastic from that point of view. It actually really surprised me how much I liked it. I may one day try it on to make a true decision on a Rado. Also I already own an Oris Aquis, that's why I would lean towards the Rado.
Both are good watches but if I had to put my money on one, I'd go with the Rado due to the value you get. One thing that Teddy kind of glossed over in this video is how much more scratch resistance you'll get on the Rado. It's just a better quality watch that will look good for an entire lifetime for the same price. Not to take away from the Oris, it's still a great looking watch.
It’s interesting to read through the comments and also follow Teddy’s comments about water resistance. Actually no one seams to understand that’s the water-pressure which is setting the limits.... meaning, if you jump into a swimming pool with either of those and hit the water with your arms in a strange angle, slamming the watch onto the surface - there is a certain likelihood of water getting into it already, even if your are swimming in a pool being just about 3 meters deep..... just physics....
Actually my debate was between the Rado Captain Cook and the Longines Legend Diver, however on that comparison the winner was the Rado, now that you bring Oris to the table, I still prefer the Rado, I hope to buy it soon
Love the aesthetic of the diver 65, but the Caption Cook's movement is just a no brainer. And also Captain Cook's design is different compared to modern divers, more personalities.
Leaving a dive watch over the weekend and picking it up on Monday morning?... Probably, if you are a professional diver. But, in this case you would use a different kind of wrist watch. Otherwise, this 80 h extended power reserve of the Rado doesn‘t make sense as it is basically a weekend and leisure time watch.
Personally, I would prefer a higher beat movement over a higher power reserve but if that would be my priority I would probably go for a Seiko with a 6R15 instead, still decent 50h pr but easier to regulate.
Odd the Rado doesn't have lamination on its bezel. Such a small thing but it really takes away from the 20 bar water resistance. The Rado simply will never be used as a true dive watch without that lamination. It is a small detail resulting in a rather large negative impact. I'd still get the Rado over the Oris.
The overall look of the Captain Cook is so much more unique than the 65… I would say neither of these scream “take me diving”, so not having any lume on the bezel of the Captain is not an issue.
Great review Teddy. I just bought a pre-owned Oris 65 from Bob's Watches, so thanks for connecting me with them. Now I'm mulling over the Rado in ss or bronze, but I like the beads of rice bracelet, so I'll probably go with the ss. Will definitely purchase from your online shop.
I went with the Green dialed 300m Rado. I considered the Green dialed Aquis, as well as a Green dialed Mido Multifort TV Big Date. Obviously I was in the market for a Green dialed watch. The Rado just looks superior on wrist. I know people bicker about the lack of micro-adjust on the bracelet but unless it's tool-less it looks cheap. I have a 7.25" wrist and didn't have an issue at all fitting the watch. And so you know I prefer a snug fit. There's a reason so many dress watches come with a tool-less butterfly clasp. It looks more luxurious and premium. Rado obviously knows that considering a large amount of their catalog are considered dress pieces.
I enjoy the vintage style of these watches however I decided to save the extra money and purchased the Tudor black bay 58. I'm very pleased with my choice and believe it was the right option for me.
Have the Captain Cook in Bronze. Great watch but after having it for Eight months I have to say the steel is the better option you can play around with more straps and bracelets.
Have never personally owned a bronze watch but am wearing a Tudor black bag bronze as I type this comment to you. Starting to come around to them more but I think your concerns are valid. Thanks for sharing the experience Robert!
About time a HQ vid on this particular Oris 65 variant- it’s the one I want! Might hold off and see if they put the new cal 400 in the regular production divers 65, that would make it a really tough decision if they also put it in their Aquis in 41.5mm..
Love this! I have a Rado Black Ceramic watch that's given to me by my dad 13 years ago 😊👍 After watching this, I believe the Rado Captain Cook will be my next watch though I recently got myself a Rolex Black Submariner 😊 Probably next comparison will be Omega Seamaster and the new Zenith Chronograph watch. 👍
Rado has the same movement as a £400 Mido, Tissot and Certina. I love the watch and have been offered it at £850 but still can’t justify paying that for a Powermatic 80
I'd Like to add that most people will only use these watches for swimming and maybe a bit of snorkelling, so unless you are doing Serious Scuba diving on a regular basis, I think the water resistance on both watches is not an issue. I've worn my Oris in the ocean swimming many times, and it still works fine.
Dive watches back in the day were only 100m and people went deep with them just fine. I always get hung up with, its only 100m! But I dont even have a diving certification lol. I am snorkeling and jumping off docs, 50m is probably fine for me lol.
Rado all day! For two reasons: My grandfather owns a Rado dress watch which he passed down to me, hence the old association with Rado. And two, the anchor is a nice, unique, playful addition that brings a smile to the wearer's face. Do you know why Rado is so popular in the Indian subcontinent? It continues to puzzle me
The 2015 Oris Diver 65 with inverted numerals on a tropic rubber strap is the actual winner here. This version of the Oris 65 is just a little… boring imho
What are your views on the tudor black bay chrono? Willing to buy the skeleton capt cook rado hitech ceramic as well as a watch with a chrono. Found tudor really good. Oris didn’t appeal much.
Let's be real how many of us are really going to be diving to such deeps? I prefer the Rado because i'll be on land much longer & it's more eye catching👍
Rado is the clear choice for me. I have experienced both watches. You get more for your money with the captain cook. Ceramic bezel, more than double the power reserve of the Oris at 80hrs, bracelet needs no tools to change it and is very easy, double box sapphire crystal which makes a huge difference to visibility under water as opposed to the huge dome of the Oris. The Rado does wear smaller than what a 42mm would suggest, however the watch definitely looks like a 42mm and has more wrist presence than the Oris.
Yeah but... 21mm strap width, no micro adjust, that's going to be super aggravating to fit and/or find an aftermarket solution. Also: 3hz movement. I get that a lot of manufacturers are "realizing" that they can nearly double the reserve by slowing the beat rate but (to me, at least) that higher beat rate is part of what makes the higher quality movement. There's so much I want to love about the CC but those are some real polarizing design decisions.
I had a Carl brashear Oris but it just felt fake as a diver. I will never go past the 100m but it just was constant on my mind that it looks like a diver but the specs are not diver worthy. It's like all these euro cars that now have a gtline or rsline All show and no go
If you go to 101M with the Oris just remember to hold your arm up.
And when you reach 201m with the Rado...you know what to do!🤣
Good one 😂
I have the 42mm Oris diver 65 black dial on a rubber strap and it's fantastic. I believe if you plan on going into water a rubber strap is the way to go. Also I may look into purchasing the bracelet to swap out since changing straps seems to be pretty simple.

Love them both. Oris for the dial and handset, Rado for the case, bezel, and bracelet. Overall I think I prefer the Rado
I was heavily considering a Longines Hydroconquest and was thinking at maybe other options for a good 2000$ diver, the Rado is definitely on my mind now, Oris is meh
They're both very nice but my choice would be the rado I am a lover for watched I have a good collection
I am a lover for watches
Love the Sixty-Five and Oris.
Please review the new Tissot PRX...
What happend to giveaway
My money with go to the Rado, personally. I think that concaved bezel just looks so unique.
@Jaxx Braylen Good for you.
@Jaxx Braylen yeah we dont give a shit

Ceramic bezel, thinner, cheaper, better water resistance. I own neither but it seems like the Rado is a clear winner here if you like the styling of both equally!

Rado definitely seems like a better option. Looks unique and that 80hr power reserve sounds amazing.

This is good info. For me, the Rado CC is a bit like the Seiko Sumo: highly unique case design. Still I would probably go for the Oris, but it's a toss up.
I would go for the Oris, totally love it. The Rado looks too funky to me. The Oris is quite classy.
The RADO with the oyster bracelet has micro adjustments plus it’s rated to 300 meters. It’s cheaper than the lower spec watch with the beads of rice bracelet rated at 200 meters.
What exactly does the lack of micro-adjustments mean for the Rado? If I get a Rado with the beads of rice bracelet is it not possible to resize it?
Oris Divers 65 all day long. More prominent domed crystal, thinner bezel, wears closer to classic case size and narrower crown, which all speaks the vintage language, at least to me. Nice job on the review Teddy.
Could always go with the smaller Rado Captain Cook
Went with the green dial Rado, couldn't be happier. Stunning in person.
But you see the space between "a" and in hahah it's capta in
I’ve really been wanting one lately.
Interesting idea, would love to see more versus episodes in the future.
He did one for the Seiko DressKX and Orient Maestro, and it was also excellent!
I would go for the Rado! But now I’m looking for the Mido Ocean Star GMT, I wrote to you about this watch and Gabe responded that soon you will be a Mido AD so I’m waiting for you to get it from your store. Nice video, keep the good work my friend!
In England I couldn't get hold of the Mido
The Rado is just a flat out beauty!
Oris for me. Not a fan of the logo on a rado for some reason.
Was the $5,000 watch collection giveaway winner announced already?
Good question
Not yet!
Love the 'Captain Cook'. But, The Lug Width of 21mm, and more so, the lack of Micro Adjustments, (Grrrrrrr !) is a real disappointment. Have I mentioned, just how beautiful the Captain Cook, is ??? ( damn it !)

How did Oris become the "new Tag Heuer" with you fickle watch geeks?
They are good watches produced by a truly independent company.
They’re part of the Swatch Group…just like Rado…
Still in love and love my Oris Divers 65 36mm in deep blue dial. I like the aesthetics more than the Rado.
Ok, so if I had the money, I'd buy Rado. I find the bezel amazing and, come on, the anchor is just fun!

The rado is too shiny to be a tool watch. I have seen it personally, not for me
Could this Rado watch be considered a every day watch or also a sporty watch or is more dressy?
You can dress it up for sure. It is one of the few divers that does not look like a tool watch
For me, the micro-adjustment is a must for a SS bracelet.
It is very useful. I think it is one of the nicest features to have on a metal bracelet
I can't wear my old Seamaster due to lack of micro adjustment. Why such basic feature is missing from a 2k usd watch is pure non sense.
Captain Cook 37mm all the way!!! Gorgeous, full of soul, and virtually indistinguishable from the original. A beautiful, sublime recreation.

Hey I just saw these in Producer Michael's budget watch round up!
Love the aesthetic of the diver 65, but the Caption Cook's movement is just a no brainer. And also Captain Cook's design is different compared to modern divers, more personalities.

80 hr power reserve is nice, but am I the only one who really notices the sweep smoothness (and strongly prefers the smoother sweep?)
The Oris would look a lot better with the Rado beads of rice bracelet on it 😀
I prefer the Rado, though the lack of micro adjustments is disappointing. What were they thinking?
Their rice bean bracelet segments are small enough to be able to adjust it reasonably well.
The Rado Captain Cook is Bauhaus to me. Very simple and beautiful. It's the winner.
I love the Captain Cook but I do so wish it came with the standard high beat ETA.
Personally, I would prefer a higher beat movement over a higher power reserve but if that would be my priority I would probably go for a Seiko with a 6R15 instead, still decent 50h pr but easier to regulate.
I know what you are saying, but the Seiko 6 series movements are not of the same quality as those in the Oris and Rado.
Could you do a best below **insert price range** for specific brands? Would love to see best tissot watches under 1000 for example
Great video Teddy. Would you consider the Certina DS PH 200M? It’s retro ish but about half the price of these (which I love). Is it half the watch ?
I would go with the 28,800 vph movement. If I'm going Swiss I'm going 4 Hertz.
The overall look of the Captain Cook is so much more unique than the 65… I would say neither of these scream “take me diving”, so not having any lume on the bezel of the Captain is not an issue.
Captain Cook for me, it's just beautiful.
Also would go with Rado. However, just can’t wrap my mind around why a 2k watch won’t have micro adjustments.
It is because of the thin clasp and bracelet. Which gives it a unique look ...The profile of this case is also very slim which is something unique...
They are both great sport/ everyday type watches but the Rado can also be worn as a dress dress watch,it is very elegant.
Exactly the reason I chose the Captain Cook. The fact it can be worn as a dress type watch, and of course that gorgeous beads of rice bracelet.
