Seiko performing excellent; "other people complain about them - lowering the grade!" ETA performing badly; "other people appreciate them - raising the grade!" what was the point of mesuring at all??? 😂😂😂
I haven't got a Willard but I have the 051, and I own the cook. Time keeping is better with the rado. The rado also has ceramic bezel with liquid metal indices , as used by omega. The rado is incredibly light for an automatic watch, which makes it a joy to wear on a daily basis. The seiko is the better dive watch, but the rado is in a higher leaque in terms of refinement. I don't think the rado is worth 2k, but pick up a used one , then you have something special for around 1k.
With all the due respect to the Seiko, I don’t think that it’s a fair comparison between the two brands. Rado is class apart and it feels like wearing a luxurious brand on a wrist. On the other hand the Seiko is something which you want to wear to a boxing match, sowing seeds in a field or in a street fight..
That Rado’s look makes me think of an old ship’s steering wheel, which I think goes well with the “Captain” name. As a side note: crown guards are functionally irrelevant on a screw-down crown, bear that in mind.
I think you did good but you have been too severe on brand and look. Or too good on Seiko. To be fair Seiko is a big, old, beautiful brand but doesn't have the "great watch" appeal. And the design, it look like every other Seiko diver. Especially the dial. The rado is a unique watch, it seems nothing on the market.
I’ll go with the Rado. Both are nice watches but I like the Rado. It’s all personal preference. You have to shop around for sale prices. If you’re paying full retail you have money to burn.
@@EscapementWatch I have 6 1/2 inch wrist and have the 37mm. Though that one is 100m and non screw down crown. But I love it. Also really enjoyed this video and like the versus series.
good morning. I'm hesitating between buying a Seiko spb183j1 and the spb149. since you have tried both in your opinion which is better between the two. thank you
great review. I have both, but I think the Willard is just an iconic design that comes together so well. For coolness and wear it wins. For more of a dressing appearance, the Rado is a better fit
The comparison you doing with the timegrapher to my opinion is irrelevant to put 2 watches head to head. To make it clear I love Seiko's I have many in my collection and the specific Rado is beautiful watch. But you can't compare watches with a timegrapher. If you take 10 of the same watches same brand and model and put them on timegrapher all will have different values. For me what you did is like you going to compare 2 cars and you checked which car has more air in the tyres !
that is why the rado scored higher then the seiko. even tho the seiko outperformed it. because normally the ETA's should outperform the Seikos. So not the whole score is the 2 watches on the table. I explained it in the video. Most of the score is the 2 watches on the table. But the known industry reputation/performance/whatever is a small part of the mark. So the Rado wins the movement category in this case. However, ppl seem to not like this scoring method and rather I just do the 2 watches on the table and thats it.

Depends what you want in many ways they are very different . Seiko is a proper dive watch . Radio is very much a dressier diver . If you’re after a good solid tool . Watch seiko , if your after a dressier all purpose piece rado. The rado is gorgeous the seiko looks like a seiko which isn’t by any means a bad thing ..
Man I really like your videos... Not this one! One movement runs better than the other, BUT it scores higher! I will go read the specs and save 18 min of video.
I wonder if the watches are new or they had some time for the movement to settle in. Because the powermatic is known to have some settle in period when it's a bit inconsistent, about 1-2 months.
You failed to mention that the Willard does not have a signed crown. For a watch over $1000- , that looks cheap. Also I''m also not a fan of that X logo on the dial.
it might in 1 months time. One thing I noticed is when I think the watch is full its not after checking it on the graph. Takes a lot more winding up to get it to full.
Whats the point of testing if the results are known already and and the test results don't matter? I would have been harsh on Rado and Eta for really disappointing.
You might consider 'curb appeal' of both watches....if you were in a watch store and looking at a bunch of watches, I think the Seiko has it, and you would definitely ask the sales person to show it to you. You might or might not ask to see the Rado unless it was with the better movement.
Honestly I think the Willard is ugly (I hate the case shape, it's like a obese Seiko turtle) and the Rado Captain Cook (in green) is just gorgeous having seen both in store. I would rather than a Green Captain Cook and an SPB149. The Rado is regularly retailing for £1400 here which makes it much more competitive (it's not worth retail though, not with a stock ETA).
If I go near the water or anything sporty, then it's the Willard. Let's be real the Cook is only fit for dressy occasions. Personally I would go for the Cook because 1) the design will stand out from the crowd, 2) gawd it's gorgeous, and 3) I like the vintage vibe.
The Seiko won every category, objectively its not close. The movement category was even handed to the loser. But I don't think it really matters with these watches because the styling is so different. Rado is more versatile since it is more dressy. Willard is more baddass masculine. You would not really be shopping these watches against each other. I would take the Seiko, but I can see why someone else would take the Rado.
Willard is real iso rated diver, so Willard any time while Rado has always been master of materials rather sporty watch for me. Slim Turtle wearability is much better imho.
Seiko 100%. Rado is overpriced, not proposing anything more than a tissot which is less than half the price, and way too shiny. Not mentioning that it is no real diver but just a watch mimicking the shape and some design detail.
Design wise Seiko is the winner but when it comes to material and performance Rado is way ahead I have both the seiko Willard is running +16 seconds a day while my Rado captain cook is running about +5 seconds a day, also the material used in Rado is better the bezel is well aligned compare to seiko so Rado is the winner, seiko needs to do something with their movements they are reliable but not accurate
the last couple 6R on the channel have all done amazingly. Make sure your willard is wound up good. 100 half turns of the crown minimum. with its new 70hr reserve its a bit longer to wind up and I have been tricked that its full when it wasn't really full a couple of times. Put it on the graph saw it acting crazy. 50 more winds and it fixes itself. reset it with atomic clock and check again. If its still doing +16 i'd recommend a regulation. They can be deadly accurate once regulated I have seen first hand!

Seiko feels really loose. Swiss companies have more quality and recognition than Japanese companies.I own both watches. Cook is lighter than Seiko watch. Seiko is heavy. Overall really good video , I cant pass without liking. I vote for Rado....
considering the movement on the Rado, it might come as overpriced. My Mido Baroncelli has a ETA 2892 for a retail of around $1000 and as low as $600 or so. The Willard comes as a more historic and interesting piece imho

As much as I value Seiko and Japanese manufacturers in general, it is in my opinion ridiculous to praise the "value" of the Willard so much. Sorry, but at the price point the Willard sells for, there are quite a few clear "no go" moments. First and foremost the bezel insert. If the King Turtle can get ceramic at around 600$, then Willard must have it as well. Then the fit of the end links to the case. I have yet to see a Willard reissue without a gap of almost a millimeter on one side. The ridiculousness of the clasp, where Seiko improves with machined scissors but insists on pressed metal clasp "cover" is unforgivable at this level. Likewise, the flimsy diver extension would be better off not even being there. Now, Rado is far from perfect, or even adequate at the price point it sells for, but let´s go easy on the praise for the Willard. It is not that good of a watch for the money.
No X-factor for seiko. You get the same-looking turtle for 3 times cheaper from their line up. Yes Willard has some features and quality, but the reason an "every watch enthusiast" has the "same" watch for 300$ stops me from digging it and Seiko in general. Their models are so boring that you got to be a Seiko enthusiast, not watch enthusiast, to tell the difference between them.
Ultra high beat just means it will wear out faster. It means nothing to keeping time. I like slower beat for long lasting rugged use. You are being prejudice to Rado. Rado sux for its cost vs running.
@@EscapementWatch not enough to mean as much as the sales pitch to get you to buy them and then pay out your bottom to have it service many times before the Seiko needs it. Not cost effective at all.
In reality official Seiko documents say 3 year service for 6r35 movements. ETA 2824 has a recommended service of 5 years. But in real life both easily go 5-7 years. So I rather have the smoother sweep with the exact same service intervals.
I have both Seiko and Rado. If you’re a diver don’t buy either. Buy a Citizen aqualand or a Doxa The Rado wins in so many ways. It’s a beautiful timepiece and the ETA 2824 is a superb movement though this one seems a bit off. The Rado build quality is spectacular and the Seiko can’t compete at that level. That said I have just bought a Seiko solar chronograph red Machina Sportiva from Amazon for just over £200 and it is beautiful. Really accurate and no service costs. I love all my watches and have many. Best value has to be Citizen. Best build quality has to be Rado and most prestigious my vintage Omega. Seiko is a strange one and I have several. Some real jewels and a couple of real duds. The cost of a watch very often doesn’t reflect it’s build quality , reliability or usefulness. It’s all down to marketing and perception. If you want accuracy buy a Citizen radio controlled watch. Want looks buy a Rado. Want prestige buy a Patek Phelipe. Want something rugged buy a Casio. Where does that leave Rolex and Omega. Well they’re mid range luxury watches with wonderful build quality and very hyped costs. Having said all that I’d love an Omega Seamaster 300 but just can’t justify the cost. Solar is just amazing for accuracy and price with low servicing costs. Do you want practical or prestige? Up to you.
I enjoyed this review and I’m a subscriber to this channel. However, your claim of being “objective” and “unbiased” went right out the window with the first movement test. By your own admission, you “factored in” Internet scuttlebut regarding the “quality control issues of the 6R movement” even though it’s test results were superlative by your own admission. Candidly, it is your ability to reveal your likes and dislikes without having your head up your a$& that causes me to respect your reviews. Just continue being yourself in your reviews without claiming to be “objective and unbiased”.
I believe hamilton and Longines take more care with their movements. then again this is just from my limited experiences with the brands. But my AD tells me which ones have the worst QC. usually TISSOT. out of the swatch group. always an issue apparently. Rado kinda up there as well. there was a huge piece of dirt on the dial on this one. I was so tempted to open it up and blow it off with my bergeon blower. but its not my watch its a new watch. And get the dust out of there as well.
@@EscapementWatch well I can’t argue there : as you might remember the capt cook I got had a blob of something on the dial too. Which is why I returned it. It’s a shame to hear their QC is known not to be great considering their obsession with great materials and a very specific design language. Anyway. Obviously the Rado to me is absolutely gorgeous and since this is a subjective thing, that’s why I want one. But I’m more wary after watching this episode. So great job as always. Signed, a non-enthusiast
HA! yes I remember! tbh I grew to really love the rado with my week with it. its so beautiful in blue. and I could regulate it and take out the dirt/dust so its an non-issue for me. :P owner of Kavar wears a brown cook when hes not wearing his rolexes. Its a STUNNER! -Signed Biased seiko fanboy
Love seiko but this price point what they deliver is a joke . Junk bracelet (as usual). Where bracelet meets lug is never flush (as usual) and not even a signed crown . Seiko under £500 for sure but after that they under deliver. Captain cooks can be had new easily for £1500 …. Build and finish far superior.
I like Willard, but it little bit overprice in my country for now, and it is not comparable with Cpt. Cook, a fair compare is with something like master series of seiko😊
I was pretty impressed with seiko's movement because on the website, its accuracy is -15 to +25seconds a day Anyway it gave me one more reason to buy the willard x

Yes Willard has some features and quality, but the reason an "every watch enthusiast" has the "same" watch for 300$ stops me from digging it and Seiko in general. Their models are so boring that you got to be a Seiko enthusiast, not watch enthusiast, to tell the difference between them.
Agreed. And that X logo is just ugly. Wishing Seiko would ditch it.
Ultra high beat just means it will wear out faster. It means nothing to keeping time. I like slower beat for long lasting rugged use. You are being prejudice to Rado. Rado sux for its cost vs running.
higher beat wears out faster but if you look it up it also means higher precision
@@EscapementWatch actually it is way cheaper just to replace the movement with a NH unit and just keep going.
Omg. The Timegrapher section has me in a panic ! #RadoFail 😢
And get the dust out of there as well.
the dirt was shown I believe near the end in a macro. hard to notice it. but macro reveals it all.
-Signed Biased seiko fanboy
that beads of rice....those skin diver looks. if they made 40mm I'd grab one. I know its a great watch because I miss it!
Love seiko but this price point what they deliver is a joke . Junk bracelet (as usual). Where bracelet meets lug is never flush (as usual) and not even a signed crown . Seiko under £500 for sure but after that they under deliver. Captain cooks can be had new easily for £1500 …. Build and finish far superior.
captain cook blows that seiko out of the water.
I like Willard, but it little bit overprice in my country for now, and it is not comparable with Cpt. Cook, a fair compare is with something like master series of seiko😊
I was pretty impressed with seiko's movement because on the website, its accuracy is -15 to +25seconds a day
Anyway it gave me one more reason to buy the willard x
Man I hope that after a year in your watch journey you can look back on this comment and laugh
Sea-Gull Ocean Star Ceramic
great!
Well the Seiko looks nice but that's if you wanna walk around with a wall ⏰ on your wrist 😉 But in my humble opinion i prefer the Rado ❤
