This works for other species too. If its hot keep your saftey in mind find shade stay hydrated. Then use a 7 inch leader with size 1 4 6 8 or 10 baitholder hooks. Tie to main line with 2 moderate size split shots up to 5 inches from leader tied to main line. Use small baitholder hooks on leader size 8 or 10. Tie to main line use small worms catch bait fish. Use size 4 or 1 baitholder hooks tied to 7 inch leader for bigger fish. Tie bigger hook an leader to main line use 2 split shots use big fat nightcrawlers. I call this a poor mans carolina rig. I dont like carolina rigs where theres a lot of cover. I prefer 7 inch leader with a selected size baitholder tied to line with either 1/10 oz egg weight or split shot. If you use this rig with cover in water use 1/10 oz egg weight. You will catch multi species of fish. Egg weight will slide up or down line. Be sure to tie a tight sizable knot to stop egg weight. This works great in cover.
Hey 903 I have a RUclips channel also and I get some comments talking about using minnows but like tell people they are the best bait to use but I use minnows all year round everything hits them but keep up the good work
I’ve seen guides and good crappie fishermen use a tube and minnow especially pushing or pulling. I guess it has the tube color and silhouette, plus the minnow smell and or taste. Or if they’re biting tough a large bait could get reaction bite ( too good to let go by) I don’t fish artificials exclusively, I fish for bluegill mostly and that needs live bait mostly, but artificials can and do work also.
I just don't use them because I have to drive 20 minutes in the opposite direction of where i go fishing to get them. If I go with someone and they have minners I definitely use them. Seems to me if someone on the Boat is using minnows and someone isn't they just don't want plain jigs. I tip my jig with a minnow usually if I do have them.
Good video I am going to get me some minnows. Do you feel it hurts the catching if you throw back the fish you don't choose to keep back where you are fishing?
I do not think that matters at all. If you are fishing in less than 5 feet I would say yes. Just east release. Less disturbance. Thanks for watching! God bless!
i do both normally first thing i’ll try jigs but if they stingy and don’t wanna bite im throwing a minnow on. i ain’t no damn tournament crappie fisherman i catch them to eat.
I can't really say that minnows are always better in the summer. Sometimes and may be most of the time they are and sometimes they are not. It was just a couple of weeks ago I took the family out to Lake Bob Sandlin crappie fishing. They did not seem to want minnows (rigged using your technique). I caught more on jigs about the rate of 5 to 1. I have also seen where they would not hardly touch a jig, but would minnows. So based on my experience in the summer, they like minnows better most of the time, but not all the time. I would not ever say that if you use minnows, you can't fish. If you are putting fish in the boat, you are fishing. I fish both ways, but use jigs most of the time, but often switch to minnows in the summer. Thanks for the video. Love me some crappie fishing no matter which way I fish them. Lol.
Your best bet with a kayak and no electronics is to get off in a creek where the crappie will be confined a little more. Thanks for watching! God bless
I have friends who I call "minnow boys' who only use them and I usually outfish them with jigs BUT if they are there I will put a minnow trailer on and do the ole jig and pig type fishing.
Yes tipping that jig with a minnow. Nothin wrong with it. I use jigs too. Just in the summer, the bite can be a little tougher. So I use live bait. All jigs in the winter and fall! Thanks for watching! God bless
Stumps are natural cover brush piles aren’t is main reason I can determine stumps hold better fish maybe not as many sometimes a lot I seen stump today had about 40 head on it
I cant belive people actually say using minnows make you not catch fish or not a real fisherman. Witch is ridiculous. But some people have different opinions. I got on to 36 crappie in 2 hours with minnows so that just proves minnows are the ultimate combo for slabs in the summer heat. God Bless yall watching hope yall catch em all and eat good. 🙏

Seems to me if someone on the Boat is using minnows and someone isn't they just don't want plain jigs. I tip my jig with a minnow usually if I do have them.
Yeah that sucks! But if they work and you want to catch fish. You got to see if it’s worth it! I appreciate you for watching! God bless
Minnows are really good to use! I like jigs, but minnows gets the job done fast.
That is facts brother! Thanks for watching! God bless
God bless!
I only use minnows when bite is slow, because I notice when bite is slow with jigs they are going to hit minnows.
That’s a fact! Thanks for watching! God bless!
i do both normally first thing i’ll try jigs but if they stingy and don’t wanna bite im throwing a minnow on. i ain’t no damn tournament crappie fisherman i catch them to eat.
What size hook do you use with minnows? Thanks for all the great videos!!
I use a size 2/0 eagle claw Aberdeen hook. They are legit. I appreciate you for watching! God bless
Lol.
I have had the same experience.
Thanks for watching brother! And thanks for the continued support! God bless
Lip hook the minnow on a small jig head and use it as a lure..I catch more fish rhat way..
What size hook are you using for the minnows when threading them on?
It’s a 2/0, not a #2. Those are two different hooks! Thanks for watching! God bless
@@903fishing thank you. God bless you also
I’ll use whatever I need to catch crappie minnows most of the time unless I’m dock shooting
That’s a fact. I’m shooting a jig under the dock! Thanks for the continued support brother! God bless!
You can add the g juice. To the water and it will keep them alive also
You can, and I have it, but way easier to add some ice and you are good to go! Thanks for watching! God bless
🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟 Awesome Video, love it!
Thanks for watching and being a channel member! Thanks for the support! God bless!
Where to find crappie I’m on a kayak and have no electronics.. need any help thanksb
Your best bet with a kayak and no electronics is to get off in a creek where the crappie will be confined a little more. Thanks for watching! God bless
Awsome vedio you shared thinks for sharing
Thanks for watching! God bless!
Thanks for this great advice!
Yes sir! Thanks for watching! God bless
Great video how do you order your minnows by the pound or or the Dozen
There are a few spots where I can get by dozen and or by the pound! I appreciate you for watching! God bless
@@903fishing Thanks for responding! May God bless you and your family!
@@franciousmcfall3522 no problem! I love interacting with my audience! Any more questions, just ask!!
Fishing for sport is one thing and fishing to eat is a whole new ball game. I love eating pan fish 🍺👍🏻
Yes sir me too! Thanks for watching! God bless!
I sent off for ACC rod what Reel do you use
Yumoshi xf 1000 reel.
God bless
I love jig, facing it more of a challenge to catch Croppie
Yes but the whole point is to put fish in the boat. And minnows will do just that. Thanks for watching! God bless
I'm mostly a pond fisherman do you have any tips on fishing for them in ponds??
Does the pond have any structure? Thanks for watching! God bless
Do you choose minnows over shad? If so, why?
Yes for sure. Shad aren’t east to access. So minnows is the ticket for me. They mimic a shad anyway. So they work. Thanks for watching! God bless
Stumps are natural cover brush piles aren’t is main reason I can determine stumps hold better fish maybe not as many sometimes a lot I seen stump today had about 40 head on it
Stacked up!
I love catching crappie with minnows
Pfffft I wish I could use minnows. No live bait in Washington state... sucks.
Same here in Idaho. 👎🏻
That sucks!!!
Yes I have realized that not all states you can use minnows in! That sucks brother! Thanks for watching! God bless
I’m using whatever it takes to put crappie in the boat! Period. Thanks for watching brother! God bless
@@903fishing heck yeah brother do what you got to do to catch them slabs.
That’s right bro
Thanks for watching! God bless
Great video thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching! God bless!
What model trolling motor are you using? Traxxis?
It’s the minn Kota Terrova. 12V 55# thrust ipilot spotlock! I love it. Thanks for watching! God bless
@903fishing I didn't know you can get them with a handle.
@pranksterDoug do what? Lol
@903fishing in the video. Your Minn Kota has a huge handle. I didn't know the Terrova came with one.
@pranksterDoug shaft? Not a handle. This motor is remote control
Match the Hatch, thats what a buddy of mine has always said.
That is true stuff!
#1 Minnows ARE A Natural Food , Shad Are A Natural Food Source , Match The Hatch , You Nailed it , Personally, I Utilize Every Weapon Necessary,,, Legally Anyhow, If Dennymite was Legal I'd Use It lol 🤣🤣 ,
I hear you brother! But that’s a for sure thing with the minnows. Thanks for watching and the support! God bless

They have been the only way to catch crappie for us at Benbrook this late summer.
Yes sir! They work! Thanks for watching! God bless!
Always want your knowledge and advice and love seeing those delish fat crappie!!! We want limits of our own this next month or two !!! Benbrook lake and Granbury. Any tips or spots on both would be greatly appreciated!!!
@@NilesJStJohn I have never fished either one of those lakes! I wish I could help you more!
Thank you anyways . Still a big fan n await more seasonal tips .
My favorite 903 video #50k
903 the way it look when you hook your minn, it look like you kill them is that so we need 2 c how u hook them, One of your subscribers
Well I have shown in numerous videos how I hook them. In the mouth, out the gill, and hook the minnow in the top of the back. You are not puncturing anything that would kill the minnow. Minnow is alive. Thanks for watching! God bless
Awesome video
Thanks for watching! God bless
We mostly have black crappie where I’m from and they are picky. They’re nothing like white crappie.
True. Black crappie are more aggressive in my opinion, atleast that’s what I see down here. Better fight when hooked! Thanks for watching! God bless
I use minnows, but in the summer time I get those little 1” baby Shad. They don’t stay alive long but crappie slam them
Yes sir! Smaller profile bait in the summer definitely helps!
Even when I jig fish ,I will also tip the jig with minnows
Yes sir! That is a great idea. Especially if the crappie are a little finicky! Thanks for watching! God bless!
A smart fisherman will always use what they are biting. There’s no telling how many fish are missed by someone that limits them to one type of bait.
Amen to that brother! Thanks for watching and the support! God bless
I just sent this video to my brother he say use minnows is not for him he loves jigs and I've been telling him that he havent done well jiging
I mainly use jigs in the fall and winter. Minnows for the summer!
My brother is new to jiging and he not trying to stop I've been trying to get him to use minnows and he won't
If they want hit a minnow you might as well go to the house. I always got a minnow on board.
I agreed with that lol
I never use live bait and do perfectly just fine I just don’t bother to waste my money on minnows Plus I caught caught more fish with my jigs than I did with minnows when I was fishing with a buddy
Whatever works for you brother! God bless and thanks for watching!
Always loved minnows never understood the hate
It’s crazy how someone will knock you for putting fish in the boat. I appreciate you for watching! God bless
