    I thought I was pretty good at roller skates, until I moved to a mountanious city where my skills proved to be pretty useless. The sidewalk isn't wide enough to do anything else than sidestep, ot T, but that doesn't stop me completely so after the first incident where I almost crippled myself i gave up on it. You either have to manage a steep downhill, or skate uphill. Neither is much fun at all.

    Nice tutorial. Caterpillar is great. I would rather say that it is begginer/intermediate . For advanced downhill you need to include magics and parallels. But anyway 👍

    I’m back n the game of blading after a 15 year hiatus. I’m 57 years old so it’s been a slow startup. I’m finding your videos soooo helpful! Thank you!! BTW, I’ve never seen inlines like yours with 5 wheels! What kind of skates are those and what are the benefits?

    • @NikZvi
      @NikZvi Год назад +1

      If I get it right these are Endless Arc frames. Usually 5 wheels are used for more stability and control. Professional downhill skaters use flat 5wheel setups a lot.

    I'm a beginner/intermediate skater, and our bike paths are much more narrow where I live, so I do an almost one-sided stepping plow. Since I'm in the U.S. and we drive on the right side, I typically keep my right skate pointed forward pretty close to the right edge of the path and then take small, controlled A steps with my left skate. This gives your butt a REALLY good workout and allows you to go down steeper, more narrow paths very slowly (but faster than side-step) without ruining your wheels. If your butt gets tired then just stand like you're doing side-step for a moment to give your glutes a rest. This has allowed me to explore so many more areas since my city has narrow, hilly bike paths with hidden intersections and lots of winding blind corners.

    Hi Polly, I bought myself some rollerblades for my birthday last July after not having skated for probably 15 years, and just got them back out now that the weather has warmed back up. I’m not a super beginner, but definitely have some beginner “qualities,” so I’ve been trying to start practicing all the basics again. I was wondering though after watching this video, when going downhill with your feet straight ahead, why keep them scissored? Does that give you better stability? Thanks for all the great videos!

    Hills still make me nervous, but ive only had my inlines for a year and given that i live in the Midwest in a city with no rinks, my skating time is very limited. I know i wouldn't do any of this stuff (at least right now) without any protection, as in pads and helmet.

Besides flatland tricks I liked the way they responded on the ramps at the park the other day. Mix that with the way they steamroll bumps in the city and I would say it's a really cool setup!

    The only time I slow down on hills is if there’s a sharp turn at the bottom or an intersection with traffic lights 🚦. On my latest endurance workout, my route included a downhill section with some curves in the sidewalk. How did I handle the downhill? I just let gravity due the work while I adjusted my direction of travel as needed…and this was at night! Illuminated by my headlamp and the occasional streetlight. And yet, I didn’t crash.
