    As usual great video. As far as your hobie troubles go, hobie is miles away from Pelican. I fish between 2 and 4 times a week. I primary fish fresh water here in Utah, but last summer I did some filming on the show off the hook on the world fishing network (steelhead in Erie Pa, saltwater fun in Ocean Isle NC, Tampa, Pensacola, Merrell Inlet SC, and several other places) so I put some hours on my rig. I've had Pelican send me 4 new peddle drives in 2 years. They won't send replacement cables or other parts, not you need to pray they give you a new drive or you pay $600 for a new one, so from what I understand stick with Hobie.

    For these reasons i prefer the propeller kayak system... The fins mechanism is exposed to the salt water and the floated solids so that makes that system weak...

His has been in with a cracked Hull, a broken drive and now anther broken drive within 3 months, They don't seem to have good quality anymore. Think I will wait and see what else is shaking with ePDL options or other drives, I know I've got to go lower than 170 lbs of the 120 Auto,

    That is FISHING ! You, the fish and the kayak. Do the homework, know your tackle and know what works that time of year. It's just cheating catching fish out of a big boat, especially w live bait. Elias is the BEST, hands down.

  • @patrickfox9470

    Nice fish Elias! Glad to see someone is landing a few nice drum.
    I've gotta ask - why do you use a right-hand-retrive baitcaster...? It breaks my brain when you are landing a fish and you reach across with your left hand to turn the handle a few times and take up slack. Lol. Wouldn't it just be more comfortable to get a left-hand-retrive reel? I'm spinning tackle fisherman and if I ever did give a baitcaster a try, I'd make sure to get one with the crank on the left side so that i can fish it the same way I fish my spinning gear. But that's just me.
    Anyway - tight lines dude! Thanks for the entertaining videos. You're the man.

    Noticed that you primarily use the traditional sonar. Guessing you don't have sidescan(guesing not on a kayak ducer) or downscan? If so, do you prefer the traditional sonar just due to comfort level, do you feel like it gives you better results?

    • @EliasVFishing
      @EliasVFishing  10 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly I just have a hard time reading the Lowrance side scan while moving around. The Humminbird is far better.

    • @MrJuansWorld
      @MrJuansWorld 10 месяцев назад

      @@EliasVFishing Yeah I'm learning that as well. Sidescan is great if I'm trying to find exactly where a specific boat/railcar/pile of concrete is on an AR, but I have trouble seeing anything other than giant schools of bait fish on it. Need to get back to basics.

  • @Obxhatman
    @Obxhatman 10 месяцев назад

    Yeah , depends on what you mean by overwork? I mean, technically, I overwork drum because I refuse to use braid because I have very old poles (35 years or more) and the eyes are plastic and braid chews the shit out of plastic. Plus I only use 10 pound test with a 20 pound leader. I let the fish pull all it wants. However overwork might mean people with braid setting the drag almost to max to tire out the fish faster but also themselves. I feel there was something lost with using braid too , the skill to work the fish in , rod tip up , rod tip down , same direction as nose etc till the fish is landed for 15 or 20 minutes. I see people bringing in those 40 inch plus class fish in 4 or 5 minutes and I'm like , yeah, that's not happening with my setup lol. Anyhow , good catches man. Solid work.

    • @matthewmercer2477
      @matthewmercer2477 10 месяцев назад

      I get what your saying but have to disagree. I use only braid on spinning rods and mono on baitcaster. I'm using high end rods, I want braid so I can feel every bite. That's why I jig fish, to feel the contact. I prob have 80 rods, no exaggeration. Sometimes I go moderate but prefer a fast tip and stiffer rod when bottom fishing.

      The spine bends on the 180 drive under heavy torque. It’s hard to train yourself to not peddle as hard as you did for 6-7 years prior to 180 being released.
