Truest, most realest comment I've ever seen. Make sure to tell your mommy and daddy that I pinned your comment so they can put a gold star on the fridge, at least now they have a reason to be proud of you.
It depends on how far one wants to take their chosen unit. Personal artifact standards are easily the biggest factor. The average time and other resources required scale *exponentially* with vertical character progression, eventually reaching a point where the costs don't justify the marginal gains at all.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm just playing Genshin for the story and characters. I've played pay-to-win stuff before as a kid, and my parents never let me spend on those games, so I'm used to playing the hard way. Huge thanks to my mom. If she hadn't denied me an Animal Jam membership when I was 11, I very well might have developed a gacha addiction. Same goes for her limiting my computer time. I only play for a couple hours a day, so by the time I've spent all my resin, I'm ready to log off. TL;DR My mom made me immune to a lot of these issues
Same goes for me; but instead of stopping me from pay to win games, I personally grew up on single player offline games like sonic the hedgehog series and even ace combat series so getting everything through skill and patience is much more rewarding than this crap.
In fact back when I was just about 12 or 13; I used to play this game called Shinobi 3 Return of the Ninja Master for the Sega Megadrive console, when I was starting out I used to play that game on easy with max lives but over time I got super confident on my skills that I played and beat that game on hard mode WITHOUT getting hit once from start to final boss finish.
@@Dante999000 I grew up on almost exclusively single player offline games too until 2016 when I got an xbox one. I remember rocking Jet Force Gemini on the N64 for like 5 years before I moved on to the PS2 and the Wii. In hindsight, playing these games offline and by myself might've helped me become more aware of systems that directly interfere with that single player experience. Honestly, I kind of feel bad now for the new generation of players that are gonna grow up with this ridiculous type of monetization and consider it normal or ok. Thankfully, emulation is a thing and they'll be able to go back, experience those games and see what all the fuzz regarding monetization is about.
@@lak9292 btw; I forgot to mention, I spend money online but 1: I only spend about 10 dollars money and 2: I spent them on single player dlcs like the dlc planes from Ace Combat 7.
The fact that companies nowadays are hiring psychologists to direct your emotional investment into an addicting cycle in videogames as well is terrifying. These behaviours are very hard to control and can easily spiral into psychopathology, ruining a life, especially in early stages of age. There probably are so many people in need of therapeutic help because of their life struggles and they might happen upon games like this where they can identify in something else and find purpose in a virtual reality as a way to escape the struggles they should be facing and learn to withstand in reality, falling deeper in their problems. I hope the coming generations will realize how much of a massive problem could derive from such predatory strategies and act upon it.
One of my gripes that you didn't mention was events. Hoyo would place incredibly important world-building, character development, or special weapons that were tailored to match a specific character in time sensitive events. Unreconciled Stars. This event debuted when genshin first launched and it showed the first appearance of Scaramouche, and you met Mona and Fischl. Most players don't care about Scaramouche because he never appears in the game until you reach Inazuma. He doesn't feel like a threat because no one besides genshin veterans because there was no introduction. Another example being The Chalk Prince and the Dragon event. Not only there was an event locked weapon tailored to work on Bennet or Albedo, you learned that not only a whopperflower was capable of becoming a doppelganger of Albedo but ALBEDO IS CONNECTED TO KHAHNRIAH, HES MADE OF CHALK, AND IS SIBLINGS WITH THE DRAGON THAT DIED ON DRAGONSPINE. Honorable mentions: Guoba being a whole God, Xinyan and Childe meeting, being on an island with Kaeya/Diluc/Klee/Albedo/Jean/Barbara, going to the same island again but with Xinyan/Kazuha/Mona/Fischl (and their whole backstories), Inazuma characters going to the Chasm in Liyue and learning of the war that caused the chasm, and other important things. Like it feels inefficient and disrespectful to the developers that make these events because after the time limit is over, they never come back. It's frustrating because if it wasn't for me playing early, I would have missed out on major lore of the world and character development.
The only thing that really makes me upset about not starting Genshin before Version 3.0 is Albedo's *Cinnabar Spindle* from the 2.3 flagship event. It's his signature and best-in-slot weapon (despite being a 4-star) to the point that he is basically only viable for Abyss with said weapon or a limited 5-star sword with either CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG. If his sword never becomes obtainable again, banner sales for his reruns WILL decline. His latest rerun with Nilou in 3.1 did not sell well.
@@forevermasteri4330I got the Cinnabon Spindle from that event, but never managed to get Albedo. I have no serious intention to get him either, as I'm not sure how he'll benefit my team. To me, that sword is just an event souvenir unless they create another sword character that scales off Defense. Too bad I can't hang it on the wall in my teapot. I'm more upset about missing out on the fish claymore. I rely on claymore users such as Noelle or Beidou as my on field DPS and I'm disappointed I won't be able to have them smack enemies around with a big fish.
those major events also give out a free character (often a decent/good one), which is a huge boon for f2p players and people who wanna get constilations for their 4 stars. the upcoming event will give out bennet (one of the best 4 star characters in the game). if someone starts to play genshin after that event is over then they will miss out on a guaranteed way to get him. not to mention all the story. i started genshin in 3.7 and i feel like i have missed out on a lot of the story by missing all those major events. most of the characters barely have any screen time on the story quests, while they have hours of screen time in events.
@yvindvego9404 honestly yeah. I kinda wish they would cycle around the free 4*s though. Its annoying when you already have c6 benny and they keep bringing him back for events
oh for fuck sake, if you have a kid and don't watch what they're doing on internet or what games they play, you're a bad parent, don't put on other the responsabilities that you should be taking care of.
The problem is in the people, not in the gacha. Dependent people will always find the object of dependence. I know people who spend a lot of money on WoW, although there are no similar gacha mechanics. (can aids be gchey?)
There's no ifs and buts about the predatory nature of gacha games, but I will say this for Genshin specifically: pretty much all gacha games I've seen, when you log in, they will constantly point you to the cash shop or whatever their pulling mechanic is. Log in, big red arrow to the SPEND MONEY section, sit still for more than 10 minutes, game goes 'hey player have you SPENT MONEY lately?', find some new item 'Ohey player, this is our twenty-seventh currency type, which you can use towards saving for 1% of the thing you SPEND MONEY on, by the way, you wanna SPEND SOME MONEY?'. Some of them even automatically open the gacha window by themselves under certain circumstances. But Genshin, at the very least, doesn't really do much of that. Apart from like, the first time every banner cycle, the game won't ever really direct you to the wish screen or the shop. I guess that means that Genshin is still predatory but it's less annoying about it? I dunno lol And it also does help that there's no game content you can be locked out of, either directly or indirectly, by not spending any money.
THIS the fact that the game also gives you 70k primogems in the map alone not to mention 20+ pulls per event/big live streams also no reason to get all the characters just play the damn game with the ones you like, people will complain about anything
I remember I asked people in a genshin group how they would feel if Mihoyo allowed us to customize our traveler and of course I got attacked by the fandom. They started calling me an sjw for asking a question. Also I find it weird when the traveler randomly speaks after not speaking for so long.
That's about what I expected considering the sad state and pathetic attitude of the Genshin community. Never forget, the traveler decided to speak in order to ask people to help him/her put up missing person posters but didn't say a fucking thing, not a peep, when he/she saw their sibling for the first time in who knows how ridiculously long.
@@EternaMidnight I meant the first time they saw their sibling, when Dansleiff is with the traveler, I can't remember exactly when but I made sure to include the part in the video. I am well aware that the sibling that sides with the abyss has audible lines, what I am saying is the traveler, the character YOU play as, does nothing but stand there and look stupid while paimon does the talking. This reunion was presumably after a very long time and having the traveler not have any audible lines takes away from the moment. Like I said in the video, if there is any character in the game that deserves and NEEDS voice acting, it's the traveler.
Dude customizing the traveler would be kinda cool. Like why would anyone attack you for that? I know i am 9 months late but i can only see stupidity like that from Twitter they get outraged over the dumbest of thing's. But maybe i am being presumptuous by assuming the people acting like this was from Twitter.
This video is so true because of my addiction to the game I literally developed a fear of missing out because of this stupid ass game I'm so glad I quit after my recent birthday this game is rlly and truly predatory and the fandom is toxic af especially on twitter
@@pontoancora I'm not being a crybaby this is my genuine criticism of the game you're being immature if that's how you respond to an opinion on the game if you've seen anything related to the game it's always hundreds and thousands of dollars being spent because of a brewing gambling addictions for clicks.
What if I told you that making the game flawed is actually part of Mihoyo's tactics? They'd slowly address the problems to make it seem like they're listening... but then introduce another problem to keep the loop going for as long as they can get away with.
I don’t defend or rationalise Gacha in the normal sense. Triple a games and most payed games aren’t really that good anymore. You’ll find most free to play games having some kind of in-purchasable system these days. I mean even MMO’s that aren’t Free to play have in game purchases, to you having to spend 10 or dollars to play the game every month, the expansions to the game costing 40-60 dollars and there being actual ingame items you can buy with money. It’s not so unusual to have these systems in games anymore. Even stuff like fortnight and Valorant have BP and even sometimes lootboxes. These systems are “predatory” indeed. I’m not going to say this in any way for people to actually understand, but business works differently to us, let me explain. The Gacha system is one of the most profitable and useful systems in gaming atm. Especially because for Genshin it doesn’t throw the Gacha in your face, the players do, they tell you what characters are META and tell you to play them. If anything, if anyone is exploiting the Gacha system, it’s the players, it’s the people throwing the meta around. But this is not me defending HoYoVerse, HoYoVerse instead try to lure you into using the Gacha with designs, Combat and most of all CHARACTERS. PEOPLE LOVE GOOD CHARACTERS. As some that has been F2P in Genshin and P2P in Honkai 3rd, I can tell you that Genshin IS FAR from the worst offenders of Gacha games. I’d even call it the least predatory and mandatory Gacha created. Honkai that’s something to worry about, it’s true, the game is competitive. It requires you to keep up with the meta and get new characters and weapons every month, Genshin is a casual game, you can actually completely avoid the Gacha if you don’t care for the Abyss that imo isn’t worth the Gacha. Abyss you play 1 time every month, there’s little interaction with it. Other than characters that the player may want, i would personally say avoiding the Gacha is pretty easy. Genshin impact costed 900 million dollars. The game updates every 42 days with solid for the most part content. Most players have already overpayed for this game, but we know that this game will start vastly improving and get better with both story, characters and rewards because of this. My only standpoint can be here the Gacha fuels the games lifespan, many Gacha games have died due to having a more F2P aspect to its Gacha systems or it’s systems being way too predatory. The concern for Gacha players IS understandable and I’ll never protect these systems I’ll just describe how the systems are meant to be used. In the end of the day for me, understanding something is way more important than devaluating something and attacking others for it. If you disagree with me that’s absolutely fine you have the right too, I just wished to share my views and if you don’t like them, I’m fine with that.
For the resin system. Artefacts especially it’s JUSTIFIED to be angry. It’s honestly why I don’t play abyss or try to go meta and instead go full casual F2P on the game, because personally. Artifact grinding is horrible it’s the worst system of the game. It’s also why I spend money personally on Honkai 3rd instead because the stigmata main affects are fixed. There are sub stats to Stigmata but it’s less of a worry at least personally to me. Also I will also add that despite everything I do not try to get to the top of the meta in competitive because I don’t have the money to spend constantly or want to be at the top, I just enjoy the characters and the team building. It’s PERFECTLY reasonable to judge me for my actions. I pay on this game specifically because I want to keep HoYoVerse running and give a bit of love because I genuinely like the company, I’m not going after the Gacha system specifically most of the time because I fell in the predatory system years ago and grew out of it. Now I spend in these games for me
Gacha game players are notorious to say things like those, "its free, the gacha is generous, its good" and so on and so forth. At this point you can't just argue with them.
Okay, but like?? Genshin IS generous. The only gachas I play are it and Cookie Run, but you look at Azur Lane or Fate and their pity systems are ATROCIOUS. _What_ pity system? There is none. You could land big in 5 pulls or 500 with no guarantee whatsoever. I have friends that play them and they warn me to stay the hell away. At least Genshin has a super generous pity system with a hard cap that's literally less than 1 out of 100. I'm sorry, but if you genuinely think Genshin's system is not generous compared to other gachas out there, then there's no point in arguing with YOU. There is no salvation whatsoever. Go play Azur Lane or Fate and you come back and tell me Genshin is not kind to its player base. I'll wait.
@@xxMiraclesMay That's a typical excuse any gacha game players from any gacha games will use. "Oh but it is unlike the gacha game X, in gacha game Y it's actually better". It's all the same food with different tweak of flavors here and there. Tower of Fantasy is a gacha game that is more generous than genshin at first sight. There're only 2 rarity like genshin only have 5 and 4 star, ToF only have SSR and SR. The pity is in 80 pull, and does not get reset as long as you don't reach 80 (so for example if you get SSR in 50th pull, it won't reset to 0, and in 80 pull you'll still get a guarantee SSR). On top of that it has "spark system" where you can buy the SSR character that you want (in the banner of course) with only 108 pull at worst. All of these sounds good until you played the game and it actually kind of sucks. There're 20-ish SSR but only...ahem...FCKING 4 SR, so it means SR in ToF (despite an equivalent to 4 star in genshin) is completely useless, they're just a fodder, a dupe rather than an actual character. The SSR isn't that good either, since SSR is the only REAL CHARACTER in the game, lots of them also require dupes to functioning good. So by the end of the day, you still need to farm tons of premium currency to be able to pull the characters and the dupes. The reason I seemingly praise ToF at first but then completely criticize it is to show you how these supposedly "good and generous" gacha games by the end of the day works similar to one another. They're not exclusively good, all of them are the same game that forces you to play and grind to your dying breath so you can pull more characters.
@@alpguy4865 Funny that you mention TOF, i came into this comment section to literally say i had played that game actively for ~10 months and Genshin felt like paradise afterwards (F2P in both). FOMO is on a whole another level there, and the power creep is unreal. You probably quit during 1.0-1.5 like everyone else because you didn't mention how most SSR TOF characters become garbage after ~8 months. Meanwhile Bennett and Xingqiu are still de facto archons of their elements. The amount of dailies/weeklies/monthlies in T game is crazy too. Really, Genshin is great if you educate yourself to not spend much on it, stock up on patience and enjoy its objectively good parts.
I spent about $85 on this game. I feel like I got my money's worth. The odd thing about all these leveling systems in the game is that they are basically unnecessary. You do not need them. The game is so easy you do not need any of this gear or artifacts at all except for that 1% of content in this game. They do not even plan on adding in content that requires this sort of grinding. I think they just exist to give you something to do to get something you don't need. Outside of the grinding there is not much to do after you have cleared the map.

Despite the fact that this is already a year old, I keep coming back to this video. It is so well made and literally says exactly what I have been telling some of my friends about Genshin and other gacha games. As someone who has previously suffered from FOMO and had a friend that had a gambling addiction, this video runs deep. The sad reality is that not everyone will be convinced despite the points you brought up. Hell, the community encourages Mihoyo and have ridiculous amounts of copium that an endgame will come in the near future. It really astounds me that your channel is so small, considering the quality of this video.
Honestly, this video deserves so much views and likes. I play Genshin Impact on and off (mostly because it wasn't new player friendly), but was turned away with the predatory issues like in the video. The game had so much potential, but I feel like it's going to waste.
@@aria_chan4723True! They could've kept the main story/Archon quests as a mainstay. I've missed Unreconciled Stars and the first Golden Apple Archipelago event. But thank goodness I don't have FOMO and been on and off Genshin these past few months. The daily rinse and repeat is boring me out.
@@aria_chan4723the game has been extremely profitable for hoyoverse/mihoyo. If the goal was for the company to make a ton of money, they won. It has hardly been held back by criticism/ controversy.
I agree the game has so much potential because of the story and lore but the gacha system like 50/50 is predatory and forced players to spend a lot of time and money.I am glad great adventures game like Legend of Zelda doesn't have microtransactions.
The moment I lost respect for Hoyoverse was the anniversaries. First anniversary was a complete mess, and they made it worst by giving away the concert bundle for free like it's duct tape for a sinking boat, 2nd anniversary was okayish until 3rd anniversary came and it's basically a copy and paste. I was thinking they'll give us a concert for players who didn't purchase the tickets on livestream but they didn't (and I felt they should at least let Yu-Peng perform one last time as Genshin's 3rd anniversary gift as he's well-loved amongst fans for three years). The only memorable moments are the fans' works which I find hilarious that the fans put more effort into the anniversaries than the company itself. Out of topic, I'm still upsetti spaghetti they didn't set up an event for the Sabzeruz Festival considering Nahida can finally celebrate her birthday in person after 500 years of imprisonment.
The community is so bad because most of them are masochists and are depending on the abuse they receive from MiHoyo. Thanks for reminding why I should never return to this pile of garbage. I mean the game itself is good but the amount of shit is so bad that it makes the game unplayable.
I quit Honkai a few years ago (been with the game for 4 plus years and dollars to that game), I became a gacha addict with this game (it was NOT a pleasant experience like I was on drugs, can't think straight, shaking, for some reason, sniffing like wth?). With that experience I started Genshin since launch in September 2020 and yes the experience helped me to manage my finances more. After two years, I quit the game cause it was boring, but I do occasionally came back to check things out, or some character quests that I REALLY wanted to play (Yoimiya story quest that is, perfect story for Yoimiya simps like me XD). Overall, my point is, be careful to anyone decided to play this game. It is a good game (so does Honkai Impact 3 and HSR) but be mindful with what you spend in this game. Videos like this will help you to see some pointers and to be more careful and be more in control. Don't let them tells you what to do. Have fun with the game, NOT work for the devs
pretty well thought video, I personally pay for welkin monthly, it's more than enough to wish for characters every one or two patches. nothing to say about the grind, it's awful
genshin is predatory however its very rare to find a person spending loads on a gacha game like genshin impact and they dont have disposable income for it. I know that there is a ton of predatory tactics but there is also a good game behind this stuff and I dont spend money and can get multiple 5 stars easily might have something to do with luck however you can experience everything in the game for free and the only thing that is p2w is the gacha system which isn't even that bad compared to other games with horrible rates that dont have a pity system at all
Saying a Gamblepon system like Genshin's isn't the worst is like saying getting stabbed 25 times isn't as bad as 30 times. It's not wrong, yet saying it like it means anything is open and shut clear deceit. Acting like the high pressure gambling and p2w demands this game makes is something you can only say if you absolutely shut yourself off from every bit of information that says otherwise. This game is extreme, unforgiving, and exploitative, and abusive. Also, gamblepon games like Genshin being excused is exactly why more extreme gamblepon systems are able to foster. The idea is already being excused, they're not being that much """worse"""" than a shamelessly greedy game 90% about trying to force money out of your hands and 10% about encouraging you to excuse the other 90%.
i wasnt downplaying the predatory part i was saying that not alot of people spend that much money unless they are rich or a content creator with a minority of people spending when they dont got the money and even than most people have enough self control to not spend that much money. then comes into play minors which ngl ive seen alot of man babys nowadays so 16-23 are the most prone to predatory marketing and getting tricked into recklessly spending solution: idk dont play the game not as hard as quitting drugs lol (im has quit already) @@CarissaNomadic
@@CarissaNomadic ""shamelessly greedygame 90% about trying to force money out of your hands and 10% about encouraging you to excuse the other 90%" Practice shows that it doesn't work that easy. Why, for example, did Diablo Immortal, having a popular brand, not achieve such popularity and financial success? Because this is a game that 99% consists of capturing money. Genshin has interesting gameplay, attractive graphic design, excellent soundtrack, characters, frequent content updates without bugs and problems. 90% is an interesting game that justifies 10% of the gacha. Honestly, even WoW is more predatory with all these tokens and raids.
The sad thing is that positivity sells, negativity doesn't sell as much. I'm inclined to believe that everyone is addicted to copium in these games... You always see titles like, "WISHING FOR (who cares)! I GOT HER!" and then when they get the character, they act like they were flashbanged and are having a seizure while screaming even though they lost 50/50 and almost had to reach 180 wishes... This is why I like content creators like Tectone, they shit on the game because they like the game and want the game to be better. How far up your ass does your head need to be, to not be able to understand that if a person is negative towards something, doesn't mean they hate the same. I mean these white knights gotta be weebs too right? Have they ever heard of Tsunderes? Hell, have they ever heard of Psychology?
I like how they blame their game community is toxic over creator like Tec but if you look closer and not even count these youtuber like Tec, not so suprising the community itself is already toxic to begin with. Like I don't like Tec at all especialy he and that other gi youtuber drove a well receipt theory crafter quit RUclips but this case is different since they made a beef will theory crafter community. The irony is people like Tec no need to do the same mistake like I mention up there because both the Theory crafter and hardcore player show legitimate concern with the game are getting harrassed by these casual fanatics to begin with, litteraly the enemy of my enemy is my friend, so these GI drama youtuber are just there to bait you and you give them months of rent bill for their house.

I dunno man, it really depends on how the negativity is. I'd say negativity is nice if its true, if it calls out something shit. Calling out hoyo for predatory behaviors, or shit design, I'd say is good negativity, while starting drama with other content creators, or spreading misinformation of any kind about a character (which is most likely expensive to get), is bad negativity. From what I've heard, people like Tectone does a lot of the 2nd one, which is why I don't want to try getting into his content. This might be wrong though, since I haven't really bothered going through all his videos, I just keep my distance.
@JSW That's a good observation. Indeed, I'm talking about constructive criticism here to be precise on the kind of negativity. People need to point out bullshit. We need to make others understand. Now, attacking someone for petty reasons, now that, is truly pitiful.

It' s dumb, it' s stupid, it shouldn't happen, so much fomo, time management (in game and not), the fact ppl burn out, when the term is meant for work... Idk, sounds like a different kind of a job, how is that relaxing
One of the biggest points that shows how much terrible this company can be is the addition of the abyss wolves. They are literally the worst thing added to the game, they were the most lazy way possible: They were created to make healers more viable (In the release of Kokomi to make the pain big enough. Also yeah, Dendro bloom deserves some shit for this too ngl.) and to counter shields... The problem is, they were 100% rushed, they have colision problem with certain animations, their movement is bullshit, they can apply the corrosion status effect even on I-Frames because it is coded as an Elemental Status Effect, they are VERY tanky and they have one of the most annoying AI I've ever seen. This wasn't an oopsie, I'm sure they were testing our patience with this, to see how far they could have gone. Thank god that I think they noticed we didn't like those wolves because the most recent counter, The Husks, are actually rather balanced. I would have quit the game right there and then if this was the new Wolf 2.0. 💀
@Wiritpol Lapcharoenporn I don't see where that is a good thing? A character that does nothing for the team other than healing, and she's horrible at that as well because she shoots you in the leg while at it. Bro, I just gave up using healers when it's corrosion. Get ready to bring a shield and kill everything before you die from corrosion, cuz like... Barbara is dogshit bad.
Unless you have Kokomi that makes you immortal or Yao Yao, that is fun to play, something that Kokomi is not. You should avoid Barbara. Just use Diona, she's actually useful and not horrible.
@@mattsopiratoso790 I am not talking to you. You havee more than proven why the game is viable even with rip hounds. You should be more worry about what come next, and adding mechanic like Breeakbars is a natural lifestyle of Gaccha games.
Agreeing with everything you said, but what really pisses me off now is that the new region Sumeru is coming out and along with Dendro just to push more FOMO. Just a few hours ago they showed the reactions trailer to Dendro and people were so hyped about it like saying "OMG this game gets better and better," and "I just love how much detail they put into this game." And I just thought to myself, " Was this really necessary to take two years for them to work out these simple reactions to that element, even though we know that Dendro is the 7th element from the beginning, just to release it with such simple mechanics? These people don't think that if Dendro visions is out into the world, why we have no Dendro characters until Sumeru comes out? I don't think that's a coincidence; they had this planned out to take your money since people have no Dendro characters, people will fork over their wallet for them due to FOMO. I mean hell, even their roadmap trailer for all the regions is a dead giveaway for this (Sumeru smack dead in the middle of the story while Hydro, Pyro, and Cryo regions in the second half).
I actually never thought about that. The release of a new area along with a new set of characters corresponding to a new element would push FOMO pretty far. A new area brings new and veteran players, releasing characters of a new element when there's a spike of players will cause veteran players to use their saved primos and or buy them. New players would wish for the characters, run out of primos, then feel compelled to buy more primos. Both of these ways have Hoyoverse farm money off of everyone while the game sees a peak in popularity and that popularity helps shield them from criticism of shitty business tactics and awful treatment of their player base. While I don't think there's a way to release new characters without introducing some sort of FOMO, it's still an extremely scummy strategy and at the end of the day, a very smart thing to do. In regards to dendro, I think it looks fucking lame but this is one of those things that people will have to get their hands on first before passing judgement, I personally believe they didn't release dendro because it just wasn't finished but we'll have to wait and see. I'm really hoping there's more to the element than just those reactions we saw in the video because if there isn't, characters like Yae and Kuki will be stuck in a pit of mediocrity for a very long time. As satisfying as it would be to see the people that say things like ,"Just wait until sumeru for the electro buff, Yae and Kuki will be good then" eat shit, I still don't wanna see dendro shit the bed. Dendro better have a thing or two to show since we've been waiting for almost 2 years for it, unfortunately, it's mere existence, whether good or bad, will bring unbelievable amounts of praise for Hoyoverse from its brainwashed fans.
Never underestimate how "simple" mechanics like Dendro will change Big. For one, Dendro is a three step process. You got the first two elements, Dendro + Electro/Hydro. Then you add another element to that to get a tertiary reaction. Players have did the numbers and determined that Dendro will actually allow 5 reactions simultaneously. Dendro is deceptively simple (Because no one wants a Literal Sumeru PHD on mixing elements) but the results seem Beautiful
@@arnowisp6244 Like I mentioned in my comment above, I'm hoping dendro is great. Partially because it's more than likely the closest thing we'll get to an electro buff but also because it's a new element, I want the damn thing to be cool. I will not pass full judgement on something that I haven't gotten my hands on and fully experienced which is why I, with all due respect, will NOT take what you or anyone else tells me and run with it. I haven't used dendro and seen those reactions and I haven't seen Hoyo come out and give us the ins and outs of the element. My stance right now is, I hope the element is good, because it's a NEW element, and has interesting mechanics because characters like Kuki and Yae could potentially get a second wind and become a bit less of a bitch to use. At the end of the day neither the leakers, you, or I, know for certain what the element will or will not bring to the table in it's released state. I can say with confidence though that we want the damn thing to be dope af so let's hope for the best.
@Abdurazaq Omotunde I'm not really Complaining given how much thought was put into the Dendro reactions. Geo would need an Reaction similar to Aggravate but Cryo doesn't need anything more since it already has good CC and Damage reactions.
This is truth. Hoyoshit is indefensibly predatory. Now they're locking most of character's power behind constellations with a lot of them being almost unusable at c0(mika/faruzan/dehya). So it's just getting worse.
Tell me, why do you need characters to have constellations? What is the purpose of having more power in this game when you can beat the entirety of the game using F2P 4-star units? If you can't, that is essentially what we call a "skill diff". If you just want to have stronger units, and are incapable of withholding payment to a service because your monkey brain like big number, that's on you, my man. And you can absolutely use every unit at C0, Dehya included. Players make fun of her being bad, but so what? You use characters because you like them/enjoy using them, not because you need them to beat the game. At it's core, genshin is a story-driven adventure game. You explore and talk to NPCs. All things related to the gacha are peripheral and unnecessary. You interact with it because you want to, not because it's needed. Also, you can ascend most 4 stars just playing over time and rolling on banners with the F2P primogems as well.
THIS VIDEO NEEDS TO BE RECOMMENDED TO EVERY SINGLE GENSHIN PLAYER It's truly sad that the world has gotten to this point. When did so many people become unpaid corporate shills?
Its interesting how much we push to regulate Lootboxes, yet Gacha gets off scott free. Mihoyo is especially predatory. Most gacha games arent good, so they wont hook an average player. Mihoyo makes amazing games to try and hook those players into spending. And Mihoyo fucking hates free to play players.
Im so glad I was able to cut that game entirely, and I never returned. What made me back out was the endless amount of backlash when I criticized the predatory system. I have the strong suspicion that a good amount of forum users are in fact employees of Mihoyo, or just some useful idiots who receive codes for their "service" .
Ever since I saw the questions asked during a developer Q&A, about a year or so ago, I've never been able to shake the feeling that I could be reading a paid-for review or comment. I wouldn't be surprised if that was actually the case since this is the same company that mass censored hundreds of thousands of comments and criticisms during the first Genshin anniversary. Congrats on moving on man, hopefully more people decide to do the same.
I completely agree with you, its absurd how little content creators mention how you can spend money to *not play the game* because of how boring farming is
even without prior knowledge about this, it's quite obvious that hoyo is a predator specially now in 2024 that endgame and combat events during that time will cater towards the character whose banner is currently up
This video is exactly what I have in mind but can never get into words. The FOMO's horrible; the way they drag you to do dailies just for a crumb of gems that can't even net you a single pull; Resin; heavy RNG for a so-called casual game and a lot more. One of the earliest sign that I know MHY (now HYV) was a money-hungry company was when they revamped the weapon banner. Was it so hard to just make it at least the same as the character banner? Wherein if you lost the 50-50 you can get guaranteed.
I feel that these sort of games are not good for people who are susceptible to FOMO. If you have a bad case of FOMO these kinds of games you should never spend any investment on.
actually, after i realised i spent too much money on retarded shogun c3 i dropped it. only returned to it now, but damn, after Ultrakill this game feels like trash
@@lak9292 I'm an emotionally-bound upholder of what I see as justice. I initially came to the video with the intention of talking down what I perceived as the thumbnail's 'arrogance' but quickly realized the intention of the video wasn't to bully those who spend a lot but inform viewers of the absolutely shitty monetization that people have fallen prey to. Everything you said was accurate and, without denial, miHoYo is the company in which justice has gone completely out the window. The same goes for not only gacha games, but most games in general in this day and age. I do have to humor myself and tell you that I too have spent money on Genshin, and while more than you has been spent, I created a new account with the intention of experiencing Genshin completely F2P. I only got to AR 55 on my old main account before realizing I needed to stop spending anything more than the $100 I already spent, thus leading to the creation of my F2P account. I've grown too accustomed to predatory monetization in gaming, and every time I spend, I feel a sensation of guilt. I feel now is a better time than any to experience every game I play without spending money. Because if spending money is necessary to have a better game experience, then I will discover by myself which games have the best F2P experience. Thank you for posting this video.
I've been playing Genshin for a while but I'm not new to gacha games. The gameplay is fun and pretty albeit simple and quite easy but this probably the first gacha I played where you literally had to skip characters if you're f2p just to get the character you want and the best you can get C0 or C1 because you didn't spend 54k primogems on it
I play since the birth of the game, but I am a casual player and play rarely. I like to get into Genghin fron time to time just to adore beautiful landscapes accompanied by gorgeous music. No need to talk about characters, their design is top notch. But I still don't even have all regions opened and didn't move that far into the story after 3 years. I just get in, do dailies, 1 or 2 quests and log off. In conclusion, this game is awesome, I enjoy playing Genshin, I only spend money on it 1 time in 2020 to buy some battle pass (I don't remember how it's called) and never ever since then. I enjoy Genshin and i don't feel addicted. So for me, it's a win-win situation. P.S Great video, thanks for spreading awareness of the situation. Keep up the great work!
You probably right, I'm a whale from the game, but last years I feel like I don't like anything. Because I level up each character to 90 9/9/9 and don't even need any type of new characters to finish abyss. BTW, I'm asking for 120+FPS PC feature since release of the game, as you know we still don't have it. But we have useless teapot, that they keep updating with each patch. The same with card game, I stopped playing it too. It's good for 2023+ because now we have a more gachas and other games that we actually can play as f2p. This game is popular because other games, including AAA, have little attention to detail and bugs, polishing the game itself to perfection. It's good that games like Baldur's gate 3 are coming out, if you have problems with hooks, try such games that can drag you for 100+ hours, you won't want to go back to genshin after them. Regular story games can cost as little as $60 and have more content than the entire genshin at once. The problem is that you can spend $100+ on a genshin and still not get what you need. Their greatest manipulation is to keep you constantly in the game and hungry for resources through resin.
Counter argument you can easily pay nothing and have an enjoyable hundreds of hours of an experience. The resin system means nothing unless your someone trying to grind which is a way to play but is not enforced or demand by the game Just like you don't have to touch the tcg and there are people who play or the Teapot which people enjoy and your not forces to make anything
This take is very old for some parts, but as long as people are aware of the nature of gacha games and live service games like this in general, those problems shouldn’t be a big deal. Genshin used to be somewhat more generous, until the gacha community came in with feedbacks that completely changed how rewards are handled in a negative way, especially event rewards, that part is still a big disappointment till this day.
I agree heavily especially on the cant skip dialogue option. Listen to this, during one of the character hangout events (heizou's) theres this long ass dialogue that am not kidding, took me 5 minutes to skip through, TO SKIP THROUGH not even to listen to it.
If you buy new moon blessing, do your dailies and battle pass and events, you will have enough primos to play with and get the ones you want. You dont have to buy a lot of crystals, as with anything, the secret to get what you want is being consistent. You can spend a lot in any game that has content to be purchcased (even when they dont directly affect gameplay). I see it almost as a montly sub thing. The game is always updated, always evolving and runs on a livw serves, i "pay" to be in it every month and enjoy it and I believe thats fair. Its how it was with RPGs back in the day.
The game is designed for hardcore players, but you can be a casual and enjoy it just as much. There is an option to lock world level and adventure level, and you can finish the game in basically easy mode with the exception of abyss.
So true, bro.Recently i quit Genshin after playing,like,500 hours since August 2022 . In fact, i've got to the point, where the only things i could do to progress(to get and build enough characters for the Spiral Abyss,to be exact) is either spend money(easy and fast way) or grind for months or years(slow and painful way). And then one day i asked myself "why the eff am i even doing here, what's the point in self-torturing?".And then i just uninstalled Genshin right away, despite my gacha addiction.Sure,it would be hard to not play this gacha for a while after that, but i've got some great indie games with me.
this video should have more views. I love genshin, love all those characters and their stories, love the big beautiful world to explore, but the fact you have to wait 1-2 years to save enough primos for maxing out a 5 star and their weapon (or just whale a whole ass of money on them) is pissing me off. It kills all the joy and turns the game into casino. Even in terms of gacha this is realy sad. There is no way you can farm any primos if you are in the endgame (for example cookie run kingdom at least gives you a ton of gems, while genshin is generous enough for 60 a day) I hope they get it just a little better lol I also wonder what will happen when servers will stop. Everybody will just lose their invested money?
Yes when, eventually, the servers are shut down everyone will lose everything but that time is WAY off. Chances are that you and I won't give a fuck about the game when that time comes, for better or worse. Unless, Hoyo leaves the game in a state where it is playable offline after servers go poof but I doubt they'd do that. Here's hoping things improve.
In what world do you have to wait 1-2 years to save enough primos for a 5 star? Or did you mean rolling for a C6 5 star? What is the point? I guess if that's what your prerogative is, I won't question it. To answer your question about servers shutting down, that's an awful way of looking at it. "Invested money"? No, it's isn't an investment. You don't put money in expecting dividends. You're paying for a service, and you get it as soon as you paid. You paid for a meal, you get the meal. You don't complain that the meal is gone after you finished eating, do you? And would you say the same thing about an MMO? I've spent hundreds on MMOs. Every expansion, every subscription, and in game cosmetics cost money. There's no gambling involved, and yet I've spent more on MMOs than the 6 or so gachas I've played the past year because I felt paying money would give me enjoyment and value. Genshin and other gacha games are "live-service" games. There are constant updates and content added to the game completely free of charge. Any money spent on it is _your_ decision. If you feel like the game provides value to you, then you can choose to patronize it every so often. If you don't, stop, but I hate the mentality that everything should be free and if it's not, then the company is at fault for appealing to your lack of self control or inability to make budgeting decisions. I've spent 5 to 15 dollars a month on Genshin, and once I had a few teams to play around with, I dropped buying the BP and only spend 5 dollars on monthly, and I feel like it's well worth the money because it brings me value. I don't feel like I have to, but I like the game enough that giving it some spare change in exchange for an extra 17 pulls a month is worth it. For perspective, I go to the gas station a few times a week and buy 2 diet sodas for 4.33 and don't give it a second thought. It would be cheaper to go to the supermarket and get a 6 or a 12-pack, but the convenience of being close by and the sodas being cold is worth the money.
@@lak9292 Same as previous comment on this thread. "Chances are that you and I won't give a fuck about the game when that time comes". What is your point? This is the equivalent of, "I paid for a meal, ate it, but it had a fingernail in it, so refund me". I don't know why the food analogies are hot today, but they are in, so I'll roll with it. It's so juvenile to think this. Why are people mad about a live-service game going offline one day? I can understand that it's upsetting to not have the ability to use a service you've been enjoying, but as the saying goes, all things must come to an end. Nothing is given, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Enjoy what you have today. Why worry over something that is inevitable? If you see the money you put in a game as "wasted" because the game will end one day, then that's just the wrong mentality to have. You spend money in a game because you want something it offers, and it will provide you with enjoyment in the moment. It will disappear one day, but that's the nature of digital products. Do you see steam games in the same way? Because you don't own steam games. You'll lose those, too, if steam ever shuts down. Hell, even physical copies will degrade and become unusable eventually. Do you complain about that?
I joke about being a gambling addict because I play these games but like... it's not really a joke if I spend shit tons of money. I thankfully don't usually because I understand limits, but sometimes I blur the line and spend a good bit on money which kinda proves this is painfully true and it's incredibly... I don't want to use the word predatory as well but it's kinda just the best word for it. I love the game since I have fun with what I have but it's not really a good thing because I want more every time I meet a new character plus how it deals with that via the gambling, and how it's sometimes literally impossible to get what you want if you've already exhausted every other resource. also what's the end goal of getting all the characters? it doesn't give an achievement, it doesn't say "congrats!" you just have them. if there was something in the end game where more than just 8 OP characters could be then maybe it would have a point but other than that getting characters that aren't meta is really just a hollow victory for us, and a much bigger win for them since they essentially tricked you into getting the character because you liked said character and need a different better character later but prolly will have to spend because you spent all your stuff on the not meta character. all the arguments I see, especially the ones in your description don't work at all. "The game is free" no it's not. you pretty much have to pay if you want a certain character and if you don't you have to pray a one in a million chance occurs and you get lucky and don't lose 50/50. "Just enjoy it" how can people who installed the game for like one person 'just enjoy it' if they don't GET that character because they have to wait for the character to come back/out or if they can't afford to spend a lot of money to get them. "stop being ungrateful" how can a person be ungrateful if they never got anything? they want a certain character and get nothing or someone/thing they never wanted or even have the ability to use. there is no way to always get the character because it's gambling and the game makes everyone limited because it's more money. I don't know how things would ever change to become better without pretty much taking all of the money the game has made, but I hope it does become less predatory and more EVERYONE friendly instead of rich people/addicts who spend far too much only. even if that second one it's not really friendly and more over taking advantage of an addict to get a lot of money.
Genshin might have started brilliantly as an open world, but I think even that aspect of it is declining. - Enemy aggro range and loading zones are getting smaller and smaller, so they're becoming more likely to despawn or loose aggro during normal gameplay. - Some areas cannot be entered or exited without using fast-travel (Inazuma, the Chasm). - Teyvat as grown larger the the camera's render distance, so you can't fully appreciate the beauty of the horizon, as some landmarks will pop in and out of existence depending on what angle you look at them from. - The Paimon barriers are getting closer and closer to points of interest, and has a lot of odd protrusions, and don't follow the natural shape of the land, so you run into it all the times. Even the latest region of summeru is just its own bubble, that you can only acces through a very tight path. You can perfectly see the rest of summeru from it, but if you try flying toward most landmarks in a straight line (including the sandstorm area that is literally next-door), you _will_ be blocked off by paimon, and eventually shepherded back to that one path.
I can't relate, as a dolphin who welkin pass occasionally and drops the game for most of the year, this game is easy. Whaling would just make it brain dead easy.
I think this video is useful to people who haven't heard or played a gacha before, it's all common sense stuff. You're right on some aspects, like the way Mihoyo try to get you to get their characters and resin. But like to play to win? Maybe in terms of spiral abyss, I can see you making an argument of that. But the main story is simple enough that artifacts with main stats that make sense for your character Is good enough. My 5 stars aren't the best built, and only 2 of them are truly excellent. I've played Eula with shitty artifacts, I didn't know how artifacts worked after like a year of playing this game. I wasn't at all having trouble with the enemies, nor was I in a terrible state for not having her 5 star weapon. I can't see how it could be considered play to win, with all due respect. Also, while we're at it, ganyu and zhongli are indeed strong. But both are not needed to bypass any part of the game. There's no part of the game where having a zhongli shield will make you better off than actually dodging people. I have zhongli, I barely even use him, and he's more of in a flex spot for me. Ganyu is broken, but she's not the meta defining character you need to even do abyss. I mean this well, friend, but I think the biggest problem with this video is that you don't think people know how the system works or know the people who play this game. Most people who are addicted know they're addicted, but it's hard for them to let go. It'll take more than a RUclips video for them to get out of that mindset. There's others who are just low spenders or f2p. They tend to make do with what they have or don't mind spending here and there. I'm one of those low spenders, I pay 5 dollars on welkin pass. On rare occasions, I'll spend 15 dollars for gems or 10 dollars for battle pass. I understand doing these things aren't guaranteed, it doesn't bother me. Because I enjoy the game, and they're spending money on things that I legitimately enjoy. There's going to be a time when the game will get boring for me, but I don't regret spending time on it. It was a fun ride, not every game made me feel like Genshin did. Anyways, I'm just adding another perspective to the fire. I hope you read this, I'd like to have a discussion.
By definition, yes, the game is pay to win. While the game may not have pvp it still doesn't change the fact that putting money into the game will allow you to have more powerful characters, weapons and an overall easier time. With that being said, the idea of the game being pay to lose is also correct. Putting money into the game will allow you to get all this powerful stuff but it will also trivialize any challenge that could've been so you end up losing out on those experiences. Again, by definition, the game is pay to win. The reason I mentioned those characters and that weapon is because they show this very well, while yeah you don't NEED them, having them makes the game easier and that's pay to win. I am very aware of the type of pull I have, which is NONE, I'm just a guy on the internet. I understand that I cannot change the community or a person's entire thought process but videos like mine CAN help people, and if I CAN help then I will try to do so. Every video like mine is a push, a tiny push but a push nonetheless, if my video can prevent someone from falling prey to these mechanics by raising awareness, then that's a win. If my videos can, even if only slightly, push someone to get help, then I will make the video. I understand that I can't just pull someone out of addiction, that doesn't mean that I shouldn't try and it also doesn't mean that I shouldn't try and make people more aware of the things the game does so they're more aware and better informed in the future. There's no need for you or anyone else to justify the way you spend YOUR money to me, if you enjoy the game and want to give them money then just do so.
@@lak9292 Disagree that the game is pay to win at all. The definition of pay to win is, first of all, debatable. There is no agreed upon definition because there is no dictionary entry. There is no PvP and therefore, by _my_ definition, it is not pay to win. What exactly do you win, anyways? 3.5 more pulls every two weeks in addition the 80+ free ones you get from just playing the game every patch? So you spent 1000+ usd to win 3.5 more pulls? Nah. You spent 1000 more dollars because you want to simp for a digital character, just like how people will spend hundreds or thousands on other hobbies. The argument that a physical hobby will allow you to keep the product is pretty much irrelevant because value is subjective. If a player spends 1000 bucks to C6 a character and they find value in owning that in the moment, however long it may last until the servers shut down, then who are you to say that a physical statue is worth more than that? That may break or get stolen, there's no guarantee it'll always exist in the way it currently does. Don't know why you think making videos like these is a noble thing lol. You say that even if it helps one person, you've done a net positive in the world. What about the people who enjoy playing the game and they just hear you shit on their favorite hobby? It's been incredibly stressful for me to go through these comments and other channels and see people disparage the game for ridiculous reasons, making plenty of uninformed arguments and shitting on an _entire_ community of players for a handful of toxic, _and probably young_ , players who don't know better. I personally think you make videos like these because Genshin is popular and it's the trendy thing to do, to shit on popular thing. Why don't you go for casinos and slot machines? Or Fortnite?
Yeah this game really uses some good tricks to make people spend money while never actually locking any game aspect if they don't pay. I am playing this game for 500+ days and I still haven't spent any money on this game and I still love playing it. And I can clear every content in the game without any problem.
I agree with everything in the video and I know you mainly focused on how predatory it was monetarily, but we need more people talking about how boring and exhausting it is sitting through the story. It's literally just an exposition dump with you spamming the spacebar or right click for hours on end. It wastes your time for no reason other than extending playtime. I can't fucking take it, just add a skip buttom for the love of god.
Agreed, one of Hoyo's other games, "Honkai Impact" has a skip button and it feels so good to not have to sit through dialogue you more than likely don't care about.
@@lak9292 yeah I tried honkai a couple of years ago and it baffles me why they won't add a skip button, the players are going to keep playing regardless
I'm looking for justification that gacha is predatory, specifically genshin, and I found this 2 years old video. THANK YOU. This is a great video reminding me again on what psychological tricks they do to manipulate their consumers. Now that my most anticipated gacha game: Wuthering Waves also applying genshin's 50/50 its worrying me.
I was thinking, just earlier, that what if the welkin moon just doesn't give you primos you _paid for_ on days you don't (or even can't) login in? Like, what if there's a problem with your service provider and you can't get on for a couple of days. But, I put it aside thinking "There's no way it's THAT abusive right? I'm shocked and not shocked at the same time. There's not a single thing in this game worth spending money on.
@@Donarkthefirst If whining means nothing, what was your comment just now for? Seems maybe this video's whining struck something within you and made you defensive.
I quit this game 2 years ago. Had an endgame acc with lots of 5 stars and some 5 star weapons, I spent money on welkin and battle pass for like a whole year. I fully built my acc, abyss became a joke the new characters which are the gameplay are locked behind a paywall. There is literally zero reason to play this game. It’s fun for some time but just gets boring. I hope u all realize that and stop wasting ur time.
Indie game dev here, This is just what happens if capitalism gets less and less regulations. This whole mobile game formula is in a way a parasite in the genre. Like a thing the development teams of greedy companies that are already unimaginably wealthy dreamt up and decided it was ok to hook children onto bypassing laws by dressing up gambling into something it‘s not. And this isn‘t new mind you. Arcades and these game centers are also in a way gambling. This has always been a way to leech money off of people vulnerable like children and addicts. And in my eyes it really should be more regulated. I mean seriously. Why do you have to buy a game asset per asset? How ridiculous is it? What‘s next? Pay money for every bush in the game? Or every tree? It‘s just a joke really. I only got into this game to see it for myself. But the way the gacha works is just ridiculously predatory. I do have to say though that the truth about the matter is and always will be that whales are the ones that control the company. And as long as they buy there won‘t be any changes. This also makes sense for the company. Why be generous if the big money addicts pay either way? That‘s the issue with this „vote with your dollar“ mindset and the way these companies target people with addiction issues is telling. If you wanna milk your product the most you gotta make sure your customer is the most loyal and the most complacent customer you can find. The type of customer that‘ll spend life savings on cartoon characters for a brief boost of serotonin. It‘s a sad reality as well since in truth many whales are in fact not wealthy either. But I do think the most aggressive defenders of the game are the whales. Because they feel the need to justify their gambling and also keep themselves thinking that they don‘t have a problem. It‘s sad in my eyes honestly. Because this whole thing is a perv*rsion of art. interactive art to be more specific. Yes games like this take a lot of money and resources to create. But how come a company like Nintendo can make a game just like it (zelda) and charge you 60bucks once and never charge you again? Not to mention that they also make big money. This gacha company doesn‘t need this aggressive monetization but they still do it because the cash cow works the way it‘s set up perfectly for them. That is why I never feel like I can like games like these the way I like others. They promise you a free experience with all this fun stuff and also say stuff like: „you can pay what you want for bonuses on top of the free game and the game will be updated for years unlike your other games that never get updated that‘s why you should pay for our game sometimes that‘s why we reward ppl that pay us.“ but this is just marketing. There is no free to this thing if you want a decent experience or these games to value your time. And on top of it they are built for profit. Nothing more. It‘s an investment for these people. And this model is just the most profitable. They‘d give you no actual primogems without spending if that was the thing that‘d make it more profitable for them. But it doesn‘t help hooking you so they drip feed you the lowest amount they can get away with. And it works. It just works. And it‘s great for them. And not so great for the player. Gacha games are an insult to the gaming world in my eyes. They drip feed you a game gradually and make you pay for that process to be less painfully slow and on top of that they also make sure that the game will never be finished no matter what you spend on it. This is how a genshin account can be worth 10k and upwards while everyone pays the same 60 bucks for zelda or a few bucks less if they buy it on sale. To me this monetization is far removed from actual good art. Art that we get to experience as a full package. Art that isn‘t just made for the rich to get richer. Art that actually speaks to you. And art that a community doesn‘t have to do free labour for because the writing is so medeocre that the community even has to do the writing for them. And usually it‘s the free to play people that are religated to do it maybe for a slim chance to actually get payed for their hard work via some giveaway. Wich mind you, as a professional artist is also something u should stay away from cause these giveaways only exist to give you free labour. And the company already gets so much fanart. You are practically working for nothing while they expect you to spend your life savings on a singular game asset. It‘s a joke man. And for the fan artists and fan creators lemme give you this: monetize if you can. Write fanfics and if ppl like it publish it while changing names and places etc. to monetize it for yourself or write fanfics for ppl by taking these as commissions, make oc‘s that fit into the universe and sell those, it‘s legal. Stuff like that. There is good ways around these leech practices and your labour shouldn‘t be free just because you got inspired by a greedy company‘s property. And don‘t feel bad for this. Even if you do this people buying from you still get something more valuable than they get from the actual company that made the game. It‘s a way to take back the power. And to make your own efforts actually pay off. The best art and stories are borrowed, copied and given a new paint job, or blatantly stolen. Genshin is a fantastic example of that. They stole most of the gameplay from zelda breath of the wild, they borrowed the aesthetic if zelda, creature design, anime styles as well as the anime fantasy look, and they also worrowed from mythology and real life to write their own lore. Alwaxs remember. Nothing is original. And genshin is not the first to make a open world fantasy game. In fact, all the gameplay and world functions are blatant copies of zelda. So really, if you do wanna spend about 60 bucks or more on genshin, get yourself zelda tears of the kingdom instead. It is mostly the same game in terms of gameplay. But with the exception of greedy gambling, artifical holding back of progress, dry and overexplained storytelling for the sake of padding and dragging out quests to keep you from earning currency too fast, and on top of it all, you get all the fun stuff like costumes, abilities, weapons and experience for free while exploring the overworke. And all that for just 60 bucks. The only thing u don‘t get is a large character roster. But link is pretty androgynous and gets a lot of outfits during the game so really you don‘t have to feel like it‘s less of a fun experience. Yes genshin technically has more content and characters, but remember that that comes at a steep cost increase. And what honestly keeps me from spending is just remembering that Zelda is always there for me to switch to whenever this game wants to pull the rug and start squeezing me into paying. And it‘s a better game for not doing so. And on top of that genshin wouldn‘t even exist without zelda. So really, if you should chose between the two, chose zelda. It‘ll reapect you and your time so much more than genshin does.
Factsss Gambling will never be gaming and these people are such frauds imagine paying thousands for pixel in a already shit game that does nothing new or well 😂😂 Indie games destroy this crap and so OLD AAA titles
@@DOGEELLL absolutely! I do also think this model will eventually die down. And even when I see people say stuff like: „but they need funding!“ it‘s like they couldn‘t do a kickstarter or a premium package in their games for ppl willing to fund their bigger projects. Its all such a giant shi*show and honestly, we devs are fed up too. I mean I‘m lucky that I‘m just an indie too because the way most devs are treated in bigger studios is just terrible. Gaming really needs a revolution. Both art wise and also creation wise.
For some reason yt decided to recommend me this video a year later of its initial release. So watching the part with overall "minor" complaints made me think that at least half of it was resolved in the past year, or it was done by HSR team, huh... But that's not the point here. I mean i get the main point of the video, but i don't see solutions. Like basically there're only two ways: either you stop playing the game or somehow manage to influence the developers (by making a petition or just spamming their mailbox i dunno). Realistically speaking the second option is not possible. Not only due to the lack of communication between devs and their playerbase, but also because they find our opinion insignificant. Like yeah, they do some quality changes here and there, but for majority in the grand scale of things this all pointless. And there's no way of forcing changes. Like in every survey i write about billets exchange, resin increase, 4* path of choice (like with weapon banner, but for a 4*) or a system that will allow you to craft artifact you want (like in HSR), but nope nothing changes. I doubt they even read those surveys. There're plenty of videos on yt about "what would be awesome to add in the game" which also shows that players are thinking about it, but it's just not enough. And yeah, genshin is kinda for casuals, but mostly in a sense of "log in, do commissions, spent resin, log off" - this my daily routine, and i don't really mind slow progression, because i'm at the point where i don't really need to progress already (3 years of playing), but i get what you mean, and by no means i'm defending this system. There were many occasions when i got jealous of whales who had their characters c6 or got cool builds much earlier than i did, and it made me really sad. But nowadays i don't have much time to play the game, so even if i did have opportunity to spend money to get more resin - i wouldn't use it, because i try to make my sessions as short as possible anyway. You may think "why not stop playing altogether then?", and the answer is: because i still like the combat, the characters i pulled, the exploration etc. I'll be really sad when the game will shut down, because i know i'll be playing till the very end. So yeah, while i do agree with the video overall, i just don't think there's a realistic way of changing anything within the game. If you have another solution aside from "stop playing" then i'll gladly listen. Because blaming devs is one thing and giving the suggestions of how to influence them to our benefit - is another.
I've been trying to make myself leave the game, I knew something was wrong, added the dots and came here. Thanks to your video I can see things more clearly, leading to me leaving the game and buying baldur's gate 3 instead. XD
IMO the best way to play is just the main story and without interacting whit their community, and don’t worrying if your character has the best atk or whatever, and especially have self-control in the gambling, just enjoying the game.
This video should spread thru all social media about Genshin! Really good and real! Holly, thats what i want Genshin community talking about to change the game. Ty sir !!
Does no one else play for the story? Like, yeah I do occasionally wish if there is a character ur really want but on an average I just play for story and the average hoyo depression
I quit this garbage in 1.3, so I'm not sure why the algorithm sent me here. But the video proved to be interesting in the beginning, entertaining throughout and made great points by the end. Genshin is not only predatory, but it is one of the most predatory gacha of them all. Abysmal rates on banners with high impact dupes. Doubling down on gacha with a weapon banner. Doubling down on dupes with weapon dupes. I don't see how even a gacha game enjoyer could see this as anything other than disgusting. The Genshin community itself is overloading with cope. They will say things like you can clear the entire game with a free 4* team. Of course you can, the game is designed to be easy enough that a lobotomy won't stop you from completing it. But people simply don't play like that - people want new playstyles and new characters. If they can't get those characters, they either spend or quit. Be proud when these commenters bring up your video's views and likes. It means you made your point so well that they're unable to address the contents of the video.
gonna be real, i always thought the "predatory" aspect of this game just made people plan their pulls/ingame currency better. no. i do not think you need to spend money on this game, infact i think it would ruin most of your experience, aside from buying resin (which basically just cuts time) i do contemplate how whales have fun in this game, pulling for cons makes the game more of a cake walk than it already is, nowadays they're almost looked down upon? P2W, from what i know is (and yes i looked this up) " involving or relating to the practice of paying to get weapons, abilities, etc. that give you an advantage over players who do not spend money" which makes no sense here since you are never compared to other players in the game, there's no ranks, no leaderboards. TL;DR : you cannot claim a single player game is P2W, unless you wanna say some shit like P2W (local) lol it does feel comforting that you can get through content with borderline free units, and still get who you want, unless you literally want every single unit, in which case, calm down, if you want everything in everysingle game, it will cost you, this is not just for GI. though i do agree that the artifacts system needs to be less RNG, for what the game has to offer for completely 0 dabloons spent, i'd say its a great game, does the banner system suck? that depends on how many characters you want, and how long you can wait, or how well you mange your resources, you can probably guarantee a limited character every 2 patches, and imo waiting for a character is kinda fun, like content you're excited for to drop, it also provides a reason to do things like exploration/clearing harder content and prefarming. which is fun by itself. gonna be real again, i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who can't sink a few hours in at least once a week, and a few minutes everyday, the game is a resources management simulator imo lol, with YOUR TIME being considered as a factor i have 2 major problems with this game. 1: artifact RNG 2: the rarity of specific 4* on banners there's not much i can say about the predatory systems, when half the fault is on the player, if you find it too unenjoyable, don't play it. what reaction are you expecting from people when you tell them you're not enjoying a game? "shitty game?" sure "i don't like it" okay, thanks for your feed back. and if you play genshin purely for the story, you can literally just not care about anything at all, and just wait for the next part of the story to drop.
If I didn't play gacha before I would prob spend on Genshin too. When I bought the equivalent of welkin there it basically doubled my chances of getting what I wanted and here you just get roughly 12 wishes. It's dumb. Recently I saw a comment of someone asking how the frick those prices went through beta testing.
to add more to the Quickfire round of annoying things in the game, if you accept several commission character story missions, you cant focus on the main story, which makes things INSANELY annoying, this was one of the main reasons on why i quit this game
I think a difference between genshin and most other western games is the idea that genshin is a GACHA game, one should be aware of that fact going into it. In a way in a card collecting game like MTG bug more expensive. Its is also technically f2p. Most western games are pay to play therefore more complaints there. End all be all is genshin is a gacha with an average 23$ per user spending so one should be wary before starting to play it.
As free to play starting 1.0 until now. I don't want to spend money in this Greedy company. Several feature in genshin impact so predatory that's why i never recommend this to my friend (Mostly if their have mental issue In spend money) I remember when i build kazuha i took 1 year to get only EM stats for him and Ganyu artifact i took almost 6 months. That's how terrible the RNG in artifact.
No it ain't .. the people who get carried away with Fomo, will get carried away at anything else if not this..it's well known you can play till end for free.. and other than Eula, banners are cyclical..just chill ..screw meta, it's 1 player game.. Edit: resin was a ccp issue, they had to help stop kids spending too much time on games Edit; pay to win? Lol.. not even! Ad you CAN get multiple constellations for 5stars or free
Do not justify what Hoyo and other companies like them do to manipulate people into buying, don't be fucking stupid. Stamina systems have been a staple in mobile games for an extremely long time, they were shit then and they're shit now. It's an implementation and game design issue not the CCP's. You CAN get constellations for 5 stars for free, where did I say you couldn't? The issue is that getting constellations for characters, especially the standard ones, takes an unreasonably long amount of time and effort or an unreasonably large amount of money. You can twist my words as much as you want and hear what you want to hear, it doesn't change the things I said or the reality in front of your face that you choose to ignore. Get a grip. Have a good one.
I sometimes wonder if I ever would've stuck around with Genshin if I didn't get as lucky as I did. I won 5 out of 8 50/50s which translates into a 62,5% win ratio, got 2 5 stars at 1 pity and I have gotten a total of 11 5 stars across the span of 4 patches. I now have a total of 7-8 teams to play with, but what if I didn't? What if I lost all of my coinflips and ended up only being able to play 3 measly teams for months? Well, the reality is that your average Genshin player isn't nearly as lucky as I was: many have said that they almost never win their 50/50s, and in reality, this is exactly what Mihoyo wants. They want you to lose the coinflip, become desperate and spend money. Of course, many players (myself included) would never outright buy genesis crystals because of how fucking expensive they are. 2 pulls are 5$, that same amount of money can buy you DOOM 2016, RE1 and many other great games on sales. Mathematically speaking, from 0 to 80 (which is normally a max amount of pulls you'll need to get a 5 star), you'd need a whopping total of 200$ to secure a single fucking character in a single fucking video game. Imagine playing warframe and needing to spend 80 rolls TWICE to secure Mesa or something. It's fucking abysmal. But you now what's even more abysmal? No matter where, how and when Mihoyo fucks up, the community will ALWAYS defend them to hell and back: 1. Predatory gacha system that preys on vulnerable people who are susceptible to addiction? "Muhmuhmuh not their fault you are mentally unstable muhmuhmuh X gacha game is worse muhmuhmuh" 2. A grind system that intentionally lock you away from grinding 70% of the game, if not more? "Muhmuhmuh you'd be done with the game in 2 months if they did that muhmuhmuh you wouldn't have a reason to come back" (yeah, maybe they should make their permanent content more interesting so that I DO have a reason to come back). 3. Pretty good story that's delivered with shitty, recycled animations, bloated dialogue and poor line deliveries where the fucking annoying sidekick has more lines than over half of the playable characters combined? Oh, and they force you to sit through said story if you want the premium currency because there's no skip button? "Muhmuhmuh you're a diseased addict muhmuhmuh just buy the primos if you want them so much muhmuhmuh" 4. "Events" that are very hit or miss, often times a miss because they're recycled stuff made for toddlers? "Muhmuhmuh be glad they give you anything be grateful you brat muhmuhmuh" And you know what's the worst part? They defend Mihoyo so hard that they can never step up for themselves. You know when they made Dehya useless and the community supposedly made a giant stink about it, as well as the lack of Eula rerun in the same patch? Yeah, nobody talks about either of those things anymore. This community would rather shut the fuck up and act like Mihoyo is their god than do anything.
everyone who says that genshin has a terrible monetization system, believe me, after sky children of the light genshin is almost a saint for me. I feel more addicted from Sky then genshin.
Sky makes you play every day, Sky sets sky-high prices for purchases for in-game currency and for IAP, while they make things for free to play players noticeably worse. There is almost nothing to do in the game except socialize and collect cosmetics after you have completed the tasks of all the spirits
I'm not sure how much could be done to make absolutely sure that no children get their hands on gacha games. There will ALWAYS be a negligent parent or slip up from a guardian. More regulations and laws can and should be put in place but even then it would still be incredibly difficult to monitor exactly who is accessing these games. The most anyone can do is spread the word on the tactics the game uses to manipulate people into spending money. Raising awareness goes a long way.
@@lak9292 obviously you can't monitor an entire playerbase, there will always be ways to bypass restrictions, but having absolutely nothing to indicate that this game may not be targeted towards a younger audience is unacceptable. the game is rated 12+ on the app store. gacha should be as taboo as casinos. it's gambling with a cute anime layout. even as a f2p you waste a lot of time committing to meaningless tasks to keep you engaged. i used to be addicted to this game myself unfortunately and it was not a pretty sight. everything was so dull because i had to spend at least half an hour everyday grinding to keep up with the game and i couldn't stop because of the scummy tactics that were used to keep me hooked. it's been a year since i quit and i've picked up a lot more hobbies and spent my time more wisely on video games that deliver an enjoyable experienced designed to entertain me, not drain me of my energy. it's upsetting seeing people promote something so unhealthy and succumb to it. (the game also sucks outside the gacha system but that's a whole different topic)
@@wizardfurby I actually had no idea that Genshin only had the 12+ rating. I didn't believe you at first so I went to check myself and it is legitimately rated 12+ that's fucking crazy. I hope that in the future we can get more heavy handed regulations on gacha games instead of just letting them have free reign like this. Glad to see you're doing better, I know quitting these types of games is a bitch and it's always nice to see people be able to overcome that.
Genshin's developers will never act according to the will of the community because the developers receive orders from the top about what they should and shouldn't do. The game will die at some point like every other gacha game because their life expectancy often only has a few years and then disappears and then new gacha games often appear and then die out again. Gacha games should be banned and those responsible for these game companies should be prosecuted and convicted.
I have been burned by Gacha mechanics to the point where I quit the game. Genshin is one of them and the last game where I finally tapped out. How can game companies especially Gacha. Be so evil? Seriously it’s awful.
Most of what u said is true and I agree that the game wants to lure players and addict them and make them spend money, but a lot of your points were also pretty stupid. Needing specific elements to break shields is just part of the gameplay and not a problem its a mechanic it has nothing to do with money or gambling. Taking dmg from enemies of the same element and them being immune is also a game mechanic. There are more but im too lazy to menton all of the others, but i think u get the idea. Game mechanics can be annoying but they are not a p2w problem and they can easily be dealt with with just the free characters u get guaranteed.
I never said these things were pay to win, that's why I didn't include them in that section. I put them in the "Quickfire round of annoying things" because they're not a big enough issue to warrant their own section but they're still irritating enough to be mentioned. They don't hurt the game extensively, if at all. They're just annoying and mentioning those things is better than just leaving them out altogether.
Absolutely amazing video, and still as up to date as ever (I think they increased the resin limit by 40 though) People that defend the preditory nature of the game because it's free to play are basically saying that you should be grateful because the casino doesn't have an entrance fee.
when I started out playing Genshin impact back in 2021 I had fun as if it was a place to forget about the world and relax for a moment. Now the game just feels like a micro job you have to do daily just to fill you with hopes that you win you're 50-50s with the saved up primos.
really interesting and good points and i completely agree! not so much with the casual thing,,, im fairly casual and still doing pretty well. i think resin and stuff are time-gated to try and stop players from reaching the end game and having nothing to do. it'd be great to have more end game content for those who have already played through everything though
Honestly. I still wish this game was buyable without having all that micro transactions shit. I would have paid to get the game and play it properly with proper blacksmithing, crafting system and so on. And the finalized storyline of course.
Eye opening, interesting take. The points made here reflect throughout the game, and causes many players to burn out. I suppose Hoyoverse wouldn't/doesn't care because they have no competition at the moment. I still love the game, but the gimmicks and manipulative tools implemented in the game just make it so much more difficult to play.
Videos like this are always funnier an funnier in hindsight cuz as the years go by wayyyy better gacha games with alot better quality of life an gacha mechanics then genshin does after *4 YEARS* , hell even miyoho's other games have better mechanics an qol then genshin does after so long, an nowadays with wuthering waves being out an other games like neverness to everness coming soon like....got dayam, like if you still love playin gacha games thats fine but depending on who you ask...just fuck genshin 😂 play wuthering waves or zzz or something they're wayyyy more worth your time an potentially alot less money
Genshin is so good with its shit that it made me, someone who had never spent a daym penny in any video game ever, spend money (not much just 2 welkin moons lol). The gacha system is so mercilessly designed that it induces this fear of losing out in a character that you always wanted to get, plus not wanting to feel the feeling of getting left out when others are enjoying the same character you missed out on. Shit like this made me anxious and made me buy a welkin for the first time.. and that invited this new mindset of "oh well I've spent in this game already it's not like I'm gonna quit it anytime soon so it won't be a waste to spend again" And well next thing you know you can't get out of it. But luckily I stopped purchasing welkins after the second time. Kinda got bored and burnt out and thought to myself that it isn't really worth it to spend anymore. Nowadays after reaching end game i just chill and take it lightly, well since I've got all of the characters I want rn (except eula😢) just by saving up with discipline. So yeh don't make dumb decisions and regret later.
As someone who is completely immune to gambling addiction but a very dumb person. I don't understand how this game pretends to get my money with such complicated gameplay systems. I've been playing for a while now and I don't understand any of it, the game does a really poor job at explaining how it works and there's no immediate gratification. The more complicated the game, the less I want to spend my money on it. That's why I've spent a bit too much money on Warframe, it activates my monkey brain. That game is like: "Here's weapon skin, here's character skin, here's powerful mod for weapon, give me $50 dollars please". Monkey takes out credit card, monkey pays, monkey goes shoot bad guys with new skins and upgraded weapon, pew pew pew!. Simple, braindead and fun. Meanwhile Genshin is like: "So if you look at this chart and check these percentages.....". No, no, no,... what the hell is this?... I don't understand that, I'll keep my money thanks.
lmao fr the "silent protagonist" at this point is dumb as hell. It just feels pretentious and the game itself anyway is notorious for having shitty storytelling. It's like Mihoyo just saw the trope of "silent protagonist" and implemented it on the narrative without understanding how a silent protag should work effectively.
I'm confident that the only reason they decided on a silent protagonist was so people who are more lonely and desperate can self insert and fantasize. That would make it easier for these people to get hooked on the game, by creating this pseudo parasocial relationship with the characters in the game.
omg yes thank you :) i do have a addiction and gacha games were leaving me homeless and with no food. I thought Genshin would be different, but over the last 2 years i noticed it got me in different ways. It is to target people like me who have bad addictions. the gacha system with anime tricks the person to think its ok. Up until you try to buy food and you cant :( Then i tried to save but with my poor addiction still spent on standard to try to get a random 5 star anything to feel the dopamine! Thats the issues with gacha games. there is no in game exp when you defeat monsters which is weird, and true its all locked behind resin to try to get materials and artifacts. its 2022 oct and they still wont increase resin :( there is to much to do and not enough resin to do it for your characters! Artifacts was the last straw for me as the rng for the right artifact , then the stats and substats its all bull . This makes me depressed and i spend to feel better. Thats the trap! I dont support Genshin anymore as i see it a horrible trap for all type of addictions. Also the main characters never talks :( i thought they would talk as they go through the story but no. The story is lack luster and being spoiled every patch! im still in Inazuma and ive been so spoiled just by RUclips, and the internet that i feel like why should i play if i know what happens? I currently dont see a reason to play. I paid for packs as i cant get exp from monster :( . Thank you for this vid it helped alot :)
If the game is interfering with your life and/or hurting you mentally or financially, and you have the power to do so, then you should just quit. There's no reason to stick around if the game's mechanics are hurting you in one way or another. If you find it hard to quit then make sure to tell someone and get help, keep yourself healthy and financially stable at all times.
The Billions of Genshin are currently used to develop their upcoming games. Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail. A sequel to Honkai Impact 3 or close to it. So that's where its going.
Oh absolutely, that became abundantly clear when they started burst firing trailers out of nowhere. All that I, and many other people ask, is that Hoyo use SOME of that money to make highly requested and obvious improvements to the game. Nothing more nothing less. If they improved certain aspects of the game I, as well as many others, would spend more money on it. It's a win win for everyone involved.
Most of these "predatory" problems go away if you don't try to maximize your numbers into oblivion. Every character is perfectly viable for all of the vast amount of content that isn't the last few floors of spiral abyss. With four star artifacts with whatever substats. The bulk of the actual fun of this game for me comes from story and exploration. That's what is meant with the whole casual argument. It's not a hard game, it's just some people's idea of farming characters to perfection that the brutal artifact rng and resin caps kick in. People who complain about Genshin really must have never played another game with gacha or lootbox mechanics. In terms of predatory, there are a lot of sharks out there that will devour whales whole, and bleed dry any minnow that gets caught in the path. Genshin let's you have fun with all but that very last part of content for absolutely free. You can save primos to hit hard pity and be guaranteed the character you want every few months. The teapot is free. The card game is free. Every new region is free. Every new quest is free. Meanwhile AAA western game studios are charging launch day dlc...
Just because you're able to be logical about it doesn't mean the rest of the playerbase are. Imagine the average 100 IQ 10 year old playing this game, do you seriously think whatever you wrote here applies? The fact of the matter is this game is a ticking time bomb for FOMO to take over someone's mind. Props to you if you're psychologically mature and can see through the BS. There's a poor schmuck out there spending money for every banner out of their means because their FOMO is uncontrollable. Think about what predatory means.
@@Stanky_Foot Regardless of whether they spend or not, it's a conscious decision that no one else forces them to make. If they end up regretting it, it's live and learn. In the end, it's their choice, their money. As for me, I'm over $6.2k USD in and I have absolutely no plans on stopping. I actively pay because I enjoy the characters and like collecting as many as I can. I've skipped some people here and there, some months I don't pay for anything but the $20 BP. I have the money to do so every paycheck, so why should it bother anyone else?
@@xxMiraclesMay Alcohol is legal in most places, is bad for you, requires a person to make the executive decision to purchase, but it doesn't change the fact that it's terrible for you and you should warn people about consuming it. Same deal here. This is literally a gambling simulator with layers of gameplay and anime girls on top. If this game wasn't downloadable by anyone below 18 years of age then sure, by all means your point of people having their own choice applies. But if a game is out there for literally anyone to play, exposing a young, plastic mind, to this game will bring about adverse psychological effects when they grow into an adult. You should think bigger picture here. A 25 year old software engineer probably doesn't give a fuck, but not everyone is like that. You've got basement dwellers playing this game spending a sizable amount of their paycheck (if they even have a job) to pay for pixel girls because the game does such a good job at insconpiciously giving you FOMO. I guarantee you you have it as well, but your supposed financial security makes you feel fine about it.
@@Stanky_Foot Bro you shouldn't waste time replying to that person this is exactly what mihoyo aims at people who don't question anything and are willing to spend another 200$ for a next hyped up character bruh
Completely free to play here, and I intend to keep it that way as a moral principle. I’ve recently gotten extremely lucky with my pulls for Scaramouche (got him twice in a single ten pull and then again at 74 pity), and it actually feels rewarding to me because I’ve spent weeks accumulating primos for him. Now what keeps me logging into the game daily is slowly ascending him and getting some artefacts here and there. That being said, it’s taken me two weeks so far and he barely reached level 60, and while I level him up I can’t level up my other characters. It’s very time consuming and oftentimes feels simply boring to be playing Genshin, constantly farming the same things over and over again for something I know will only be half as decent as what whales get. Nonetheless I still very much enjoy the game, but every point you brought up I completely agree with. I feel sad for my friends who spend hundreds on the game to sometimes get less lucky pulls than I did.
i don't play Genshin anymore but i Remember when i spent weeks to farm primos for neuvillette and actually got him. i felt so proud of myself for having the determination to save the pulls for him lmao
I have a comet-type relationship with Genshin. I get really into it for a few months, then I stop playing for ages (6 months to a year) then I come back, then I stop playing again. I’m currently really into it. I fully acknowledge it is a shit game. I haven’t spent a single dime on it and I am proud of that fact.
Reminds me of Tower of Fantasy, although I don't know what the game has been like the last few years, I quit because of the gambling (gacha). The same reason why I never began Genshin. I think I'm lucky that if i feel manipulated and directed too much I just quit. I hope especially for young folks to avoid games like this.
I love Jenshin Impact. It helps me beat my gambling addiction by having so much gambling in the game that makes me tired of it. It also helps me beating fear of missing out by having tedious and annoying event (and prerequisite quests) that really wants me to do it. It was that time when the event is gonna end but I didn't want to play the game, so I skipped it. And it wasn't so bad, I actually isn't missing anything (other than 3 or 4 pulls, which doesn't even matter) for the trade off of actually doing something I enjoy doing.
I'd say I'm probably addicted to the dopamine that just playing games give but I don't spend money on something unless I can get the max value for it. I'll try to max out a battle pass before I get the premium, or I'll make sure I get my money's worth back. Edit: TF is wrong with overload? I don't have the characters to make a better build so sending enemies flying through the air effectively perma stunning is pretty good? like I use Yanfei and Yae Miko for this and I don't even get either elements applied Edit 2: I do agree with some of these points but if people don't spend money on the game how do you purpose they keep the game running? or are you saying they should just make it easier to get some of the more OP things? Edit 3: I am in no way defending the monetary system, but I don't think its that bad, Ive been playing for 1/4 of a year and have gotten 3 5 star characters, I'm on the final Raiden fight, some things have been a bit rough but its mostly me not knowing how to build characters
Making sure that you're getting the most out of your money is great. 1. Overload for anyone who isn't a catalyst is pretty shitty unless you have the perfect angle and timing. Catalyst users have auto targeting so that makes it infinitely easier for them and Yae has her turrets which have auto targeting as well. I would say try someone like Keqing with overload and see if you think the same way. As a reaction it's just annoying to have to chase down enemies when they're bouncing all over the place. 2. They'll make do trust me, they're not gonna let their cash cow die. It depends on how far one wants to take their chosen unit. Personal artifact standards are easily the biggest factor.

TL;DR My mom made me immune to a lot of these issues
same, if not for my parents who raised me in a similar way to yours, I would be super susceptible to the tactics the game uses.
I think the chasm event was an archon interlude quest so that's excused but other than that, I genuinely couldn't say any of this better myself
I hate how normalized gambling mechanics have become. CHILDREN ARE GAMBLING NOW. CHILDREN!!! Gambling mechanics for children should not be legal!
It would help if the game wasn't rated 12+ for some weird reason.
oh for fuck sake, if you have a kid and don't watch what they're doing on internet or what games they play, you're a bad parent, don't put on other the responsabilities that you should be taking care of.
Our legal system literally cant decide whether gacha is predatory or not. Probably because a lot of congress members are being paid by MiHoYo
The problem is in the people, not in the gacha. Dependent people will always find the object of dependence. I know people who spend a lot of money on WoW, although there are no similar gacha mechanics. (can aids be gchey?)
Yes, that's exactly it! if gacha was solely at fault at it, so we'd blame any adictive component as well, if the ones that have no gacha in it.
I dunno lol
And it also does help that there's no game content you can be locked out of, either directly or indirectly, by not spending any money.
I dont know a single gacha game that does thatcbeaides raid shadow legends lol

this should be an introduction video to new players who will try Genshin Impact
I join a few months ago I wish I seen this video before I play
Remember when you could actually play an rpg and just unlock new characters without having to spend anything on the game?
@Abdurazaq Omotunde Hey, I know where that quote is from lol
@@abdurazaqomotunde4894 Maxor, right?
Outside of the grinding there is not much to do after you have cleared the map.
your effort in bringing attention to this especially in one of todays most prevalent games with predatory monetisation deserves much more recognition
Your inability to control yourself and fall for this trick is more alarming.

Have fun with the game, NOT work for the devs

nothing to say about the grind, it's awful
genshin is predatory however its very rare to find a person spending loads on a gacha game like genshin impact and they dont have disposable income for it.
Oh yeah, forgot the fact that they can stack the corrosion. Who thought this was a good Idea when these enemies are common to be in groups!?
You have barbara... for free
Mihoyo does this every year with new regions. And Sumeru alone is almost as big as both Mondstadt and Liyue combined.
@@wetnoodlex have you heard nuke damage? easy time playing the game? That's the reason why people want constellations.

It's truly sad that the world has gotten to this point. When did so many people become unpaid corporate shills?
Kinda i miss 90's were you gonna pay the game fully tho 😢
Have you realized that people like the game and some people don’t spend money and many people aren’t creeps?
@@Jz-iah I'm ok with people liking the game. I'm not ok with people tolerating the predatory business practices in the game.
@@Swagbastian Thank you for knowing that some people aren’t predators so thank you sir.
@@Jz-iah When did I say otherwise?
Its interesting how much we push to regulate Lootboxes, yet Gacha gets off scott free. Mihoyo is especially predatory. Most gacha games arent good, so they wont hook an average player. Mihoyo makes amazing games to try and hook those players into spending. And Mihoyo fucking hates free to play players.
Oh that’s a big fat lie, look at HSR
I got gatcha'd finally by genshin (Just started a few weeks ago) and discovered I might have a gambling problem.
You moron don't understand the community.

Its still a casual gambling trash
Anyone can pick it up its not like it is Starcraft or DMC lmao
Yes this game has mentally manipulated me into paying money for characters that I don’t even need, but I have no plans to quit anytime soon lol

actually, after i realised i spent too much money on retarded shogun c3 i dropped it. only returned to it now, but damn, after Ultrakill this game feels like trash
@@NO122221ultrakill is ultra good
I've been playing Genshin for a while but I'm not new to gacha games.
The resin system means nothing unless your someone trying to grind which is a way to play but is not enforced or demand by the game
Just like you don't have to touch the tcg and there are people who play or the Teapot which people enjoy and your not forces to make anything
Only seeing this now but im really happy that someone had the guts to expose this predatory type of game
What happenned exactly in those feedbacks?
huh? when was genshin more generous? it literally has the same event rewards since 1.0 bfr
@@artyur2268except you used to have to spend resin to obtain event rewards, and there was only 120 resin o.o
@@NinaMorioka44 i truly just play it to pass time
So true, bro.Recently i quit Genshin after playing,like,500 hours since August 2022 .
There is no way you can farm any primos if you are in the endgame (for example cookie run kingdom at least gives you a ton of gems, while genshin is generous enough for 60 a day)
I hope they get it just a little better lol
I also wonder what will happen when servers will stop.
@@wetnoodlex I’m not reading all that my friend, enjoy your game, I am not taking it from you
I joke about being a gambling addict because I play these games but like... it's not really a joke if I spend shit tons of money.
You forgot the Weekly 10k xp limit on the battlepass so even if you want to grind everything you have to wait a week to claim some.

Nintendo soy boys NEED to understand that this is not a good argument. Especially when it comes to Pokémon’s lack of quanlity
Love how people will still try to defend their precious multi billionare company
I also love how people think their whining means anything to anyone
@@Donarkthefirstthat’s not for you to decide
@@Donarkthefirst If whining means nothing, what was your comment just now for? Seems maybe this video's whining struck something within you and made you defensive.
I quit this game 2 years ago. Had an endgame acc with lots of 5 stars and some 5 star weapons, I spent money on welkin and battle pass for like a whole year. I fully built my acc, abyss became a joke the new characters which are the gameplay are locked behind a paywall. There is literally zero reason to play this game. It’s fun for some time but just gets boring. I hope u all realize that and stop wasting ur time.
Indie game dev here,
This is just what happens if capitalism gets less and less regulations.
Can’t believe I went through all that but true
@@StarsShatteredBeyond thx for reading it lol. I know the comment is pretty long so thx for having the patience to hear me out :)
Factsss
Gambling will never be gaming and these people are such frauds imagine paying thousands for pixel in a already shit game that does nothing new or well 😂😂
Indie games destroy this crap and so OLD AAA titles
@@DOGEELLL absolutely! I do also think this model will eventually die down. And even when I see people say stuff like: „but they need funding!“ it‘s like they couldn‘t do a kickstarter or a premium package in their games for ppl willing to fund their bigger projects. Its all such a giant shi*show and honestly, we devs are fed up too. I mean I‘m lucky that I‘m just an indie too because the way most devs are treated in bigger studios is just terrible. Gaming really needs a revolution. Both art wise and also creation wise.
Hum yeah sure the well known Chinese capitalism, of course
It’s not abt the community it’s abt the gambling
@@sundae_yay_ay yeah, I think you’re right
As a Genshin Impact player, I am very happy to hear another person shitting on this game. Deserved.
It is and how annoying my sisters is asking me to help them buys welkins... i am also broke and unemployent
TL;DR : you cannot claim a single player game is P2W, unless you wanna say some shit like P2W (local) lol
it does feel comforting that you can get through content with borderline free units, and still get who you want, unless you literally want every single unit, in which case, calm down,
if you want everything in everysingle game, it will cost you, this is not just for GI. though i do agree that the artifacts system needs to be less RNG,
for what the game has to offer for completely 0 dabloons spent, i'd say its a great game, does the banner system suck? that depends on how many characters you want, and how long you can wait, or how well you mange your resources, you can probably guarantee a limited character every 2 patches, and imo waiting for a character is kinda fun, like content you're excited for to drop, it also provides a reason to do things like exploration/clearing harder content and prefarming. which is fun by itself.
gonna be real again, i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who can't sink a few hours in at least once a week, and a few minutes everyday, the game is a resources management simulator imo lol, with YOUR TIME being considered as a factor
i have 2 major problems with this game.
1: artifact RNG
2: the rarity of specific 4* on banners
there's not much i can say about the predatory systems, when half the fault is on the player, if you find it too unenjoyable, don't play it. what reaction are you expecting from people when you tell them you're not enjoying a game?
Several feature in genshin impact so predatory that's why i never recommend this to my friend (Mostly if their have mental issue In spend money)
I remember when i build kazuha i took 1 year to get only EM stats for him and Ganyu artifact i took almost 6 months. That's how terrible the RNG in artifact.
No it ain't .. the people who get carried away with Fomo, will get carried away at anything else if not this..it's well known you can play till end for free.. and other than Eula, banners are cyclical..just chill ..screw meta, it's 1 player game..
Edit: resin was a ccp issue, they had to help stop kids spending too much time on games
Edit; pay to win? Lol..
No matter where, how and when Mihoyo fucks up, the community will ALWAYS defend them to hell and back:
1. Predatory gacha system that preys on vulnerable people who are susceptible to addiction? "Muhmuhmuh not their fault you are mentally unstable muhmuhmuh X gacha game is worse muhmuhmuh"
"Muhmuhmuh you're a diseased addict muhmuhmuh just buy the primos if you want them so much muhmuhmuh"
4. "Events" that are very hit or miss, often times a miss because they're recycled stuff made for toddlers? "Muhmuhmuh be glad they give you anything be grateful you brat muhmuhmuh"
And you know what's the worst part? They defend Mihoyo so hard that they can never step up for themselves. You know when they made Dehya useless and the community supposedly made a giant stink about it, as well as the lack of Eula rerun in the same patch? Yeah, nobody talks about either of those things anymore. This community would rather shut the fuck up and act like Mihoyo is their god than do anything.
Genshin Reminded me why one shouldn't get into gaming communities. People are disgusting.
well people are just gambling addict meanwhile me didn't need to spend any money to get any character i want
everyone who says that genshin has a terrible monetization system, believe me, after sky children of the light genshin is almost a saint for me. I feel more addicted from Sky then genshin.
Sky makes you play every day, Sky sets sky-high prices for purchases for in-game currency and for IAP, while they make things for free to play players noticeably worse. There is almost nothing to do in the game except socialize and collect cosmetics after you have completed the tasks of all the spirits
the fact that gacha games are accessible and marketed towards children is disgusting. this shouldn't be legal
oh nevermind your video is bad. gi is a bad game, not just because of the gacha but the storytelling, gameplay etc are shit too
I'm not sure how much could be done to make absolutely sure that no children get their hands on gacha games.
So true man its insane how normal its becoming and no one and nothing is stopping it.
Well, when there's an exploit, it's perfectly balanced.
If Las Vegas can do it, so can anyone else.
Absolutely amazing video, and still as up to date as ever (I think they increased the resin limit by 40 though)
People that defend the preditory nature of the game because it's free to play are basically saying that you should be grateful because the casino doesn't have an entrance fee.
A year late to see this but this is why I keep saying Genshin is a good game but not a good Gacha game.
I actually never though of it that way, you're on point.
No, it fails on both aspects.
when I started out playing Genshin impact back in 2021 I had fun as if it was a place to forget about the world and relax for a moment.

Yes, there is nothing more rewarding than being feeling like your efforts were worth it!
I hope especially for young folks to avoid games like this.
this video just refreshed my mindset, thanks
I love Jenshin Impact. It helps me beat my gambling addiction by having so much gambling in the game that makes me tired of it. It also helps me beating fear of missing out by having tedious and annoying event (and prerequisite quests) that really wants me to do it. It was that time when the event is gonna end but I didn't want to play the game, so I skipped it. And it wasn't so bad, I actually isn't missing anything (other than 3 or 4 pulls, which doesn't even matter) for the trade off of actually doing something I enjoy doing.
Not scientifically possible
I'd say I'm probably addicted to the dopamine that just playing games give but I don't spend money on something unless I can get the max value for it. I'll try to max out a battle pass before I get the premium, or I'll make sure I get my money's worth back.
Edit: TF is wrong with overload? I don't have the characters to make a better build so sending enemies flying through the air effectively perma stunning is pretty good? like I use Yanfei and Yae Miko for this and I don't even get either elements applied
Edit 2:
I do agree with some of these points but if people don't spend money on the game how do you purpose they keep the game running? or are you saying they should just make it easier to get some of the more OP things?
Edit 3:
I am in no way defending the monetary system, but I don't think its that bad, Ive been playing for 1/4 of a year and have gotten 3 5 star characters, I'm on the final Raiden fight, some things have been a bit rough but its mostly me not knowing how to build characters
The point is that us consumers deserve better and if Hoyo won't improve our circumstances then we should take what they love most from them, money. That'll FORCE them to make changes and keep their players satisfied in order to make money.
3. It seems that you're swimming in primos and are having an easier time than most getting 5 stars since you're sort of new to the game. If you keep playing the game consistently you'll see what I'm talking about. For now just have fun and enjoy the ride.
