I never made videos of my repairs ... but since I was a Printer / Copier tech, most of my work was done at the Customers location. Many but not all customers were curious and asked lots of questions ... sometimes annoying as they wanted to print before I was done, asking such things as: will the faxes I received when it was broken still print once it's working ( they have memory for this purpose ) or if I forgot to disconnect the network cable the machine would try to print the minute I closed the front door. I suppose I could always write a book about my experiences: Strange things found in copiers, curious ways customers have managed to break them, embarrassing things people have copied and forgot to dispose of !!, animals and big bugs found inside, and my favorite so far: an old HP 4100 printer that had failed due to overheating ... the owner had a very long haired cat that liked the warm printer and the fan had sucked up all the shedding fur. Love your videos !!
I bought this tape recorder for 80 $ Canadian in Montreal this summer from an electronics recycler. The deck was dirty and has been damaged by cigarette smoke but the transport, pinch rollers ans heads was like new! The performance is exceptional and even better than my Nakamichi BX-300. The technician who repaired it replaced the capacitors but a problem persists with the recording. The deck records for a few minutes and the sound cuts out and returns, it switch back and forth between erasing and record; sometimes, the tape is erased, but nothing is recorded on the tape, only blank. My technician in Montréal tells me than the recording oscillator should be replaced but he cannot find the part number ... I have doubts about its verdict. I ask him where is the faulty part and he show me a small cube encased in a chrome case located at the center back. I am so sad, this cassette deck is the best i have ever tried. Can you give me an advice? What is the possible cause of this failure?
I've heard the term used by some auto mechanics, but some customers equipment once you fix it you become married to it, lets hope this thing is good to go now. But thats still one dang sweet deck.
I had the same kinda problem with a guy , I replaced his engine in his van , 2 weeks later he calls me up to say it seized up on the high way ....He had it recovered to my workshop where I Inspected it , he had changed the registration plates off the van I replaced the engine in for his second van which was exactly the same , luckily I recorded engine numbers, mileage on the odometer and frame numbers on video and with photographs , it went to court after him telling great big lies and was throw out and damages were awarded to me and he was sent off extremely unhappy the arsehole ! So be aware of boomerangs !!!

Thankyou for sharing that.
Buetifull cassette deck, looks like it has a similar Sanyo mechanism to that used in the later Nakamichi decks.

We used the term boomarang for stuff that came back. Many old units were refused service because I didn't want to get married to it.
@@12voltvids we used to call it a "bouncer" as in it bounced back....normally with a different fault but still counts apparently!
Bouncer, boomerang. Same thing returns with a different fault and customer expecting a free repair.
@@12voltvids And in electronics retail, I heard an acronym for RCA: Return Comin' At'cha!
I am looking for an HK D491 deck to buy. Do you have any for sale?
Still, a very nice deck. Would sit quite well with that SU-V9! :')
That tape deck should be one "BOOMERANG" which does not come back after this (hopefully for a very long time).
By the description of the video, I was half expecting the cassette to come flying back out every time you put it in! 😏

Is this one of those repairs you end up "married" to the thing. ?

Cassette decks of the 80's and onward, they became so flimsy...
