  • Stalking Brown and Root Flats for our beloved Redfish
    I am a kayak fisherman using mostly if not all, artificial lures, popping corks, berkley gulp on a light inshore rod and reel setup with 10lb Daiwa J or Berkely Power Pro braided fishing line. My rods of choice are Cajun Custom and Falcon HD rods. I use Daiwa a Regal 2500, Pflueger President 30 and various Penn Reels.
    You'll most likely find me Kayak Fishing in Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Portland, Mustang Island, Wilsons Cut, Fish Pass, Kates Hole, Wolfview Park and other saltwater fisheries in South Texas
    I've been an avid Kayak Angler since June of 2022 and am constantly soaking up fishing knowledge to further my experience on the water going after redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead and whatever else may come my way! Thank you for watching/subscribing, and as always, comments are always welcomed and I will answer every single one.

    Was stationed at CC NAS from 2000-2004 and can vividly remember stalking/yakking many of the same spots you list with equal success... Reds, specks, and flounder were all great but my fave was always the redfish... Best fight i've ever experienced and have never tasted any better table fare...blackened, of course! I live in Illinois now and my kids, family, and friends ask what catching reds was like, I would reply catching the slot reds was like catching a 10 pound bluegill with 50 yd runs common. Bull reds were like trying to pull a truck up a hill... Love seeing your vids and love seeing those flats again, even if just on video...

    Grant, that was the smallest Redfish I have ever seen. Glad you put it on video.

    Sometimes when they aggressively eat it it goes straight back to their crushing plate. All they have to do is open their mouth and its gone. Hang in there friend...

    Great video! Weedless setup helps with the grass but makes setting the hook a challenge I guess.

    Great videos. Ive been binge watching all week since we decided to head down there the first week of oct. Will be trying out two different kayaks to see which one I like best. Been coming down all my life but this will be my fist time down there with a kayak.

      @@southtexasoutdoor5484 I put in off the west side of 361 where that cut takes you out to the south side of Brown & Root flats. I was maybe 300 yards up where that slew to the left was draining out. Redfish were up in the skinny water hitting baitfish. The first one stripped off line and broke off. 20 minutes later the second one. Both were 30- 36” sucked in a big shrimp and stripped off 50 feet of line. I set the hook twice and he came back jumped and threw the hook. .. at me. I’ll spend my nights sharpening some new 6/0 and 7/0 circle hooks till I can go back.

      The two spinning setups I use are both Daiwa BG2500 reels. One is on a falcon HD 7’ medium and the other is a falcon coastal XG 7’
      15lb braid with a 15lb mono leader.
      Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    Are your rods medium or medium light strength?

    • @southtexasoutdoor5484
      @southtexasoutdoor5484  11 месяцев назад +1

      I normally fish with medium. But I had just bought a medium light for this trip, I do not think I like it very much
