*why design a town @ the bend of a river, with a narrow main street valley ('funnel'), at a perpendicular angle, for flood water to gush through - when it will (inevitably) break its' banks during disasters (again & again)?..

Lower Main Street needs to be turned into a park. Demolish everything south of the street and make a very large basin to allow the water to spread out and drain. The upstream development has put too much impervious surface on the watershed. There's no point rebuilding every two or three years.

In other words, ur in da way of nature. Its the water element coincides with the town s location

This is my hometown. What will become of Ellicott City Maryland? We can't keep rebuilding every time a flash flood happens. We can't control the weather but we also can't spending money on rebuilding over and over again. I think of shop owners want to keep their businesses we should build a new shopping center in howard Co. outside of historic main street and old ellicott city might be left a ghost town or torn down completely. What the land would be used for I don't know but not a town and not a housing development. At least not in the vailly area where historic ellicott city main street sits in. I think they should tare down all the old buildings ( as sad as that maybe for those of us who live here) and rebuild the road for cars and even a bike path. I think it could be a site for a long term farmers market during the spring and summer time and a park with pavilions and pic-nic tables and benches. You do so much with the space in the vailly. you can music festivals, beer and wine festivals, family and children festivals.Fourth of July parades. Think of that. Ellicott City has never had a fourth of July parade before, only nearby Catonsville has a fourth of July parade. If we take down the old buildings that will give us space to open up the road and make it bigger.

That's the problem...there have already been to many shopping areas built above Ellicott City, to little soil and to much pavement is causing your flooding.

Yes true squatters would be a problem, homeless people, drug addicts, and vandals. That is why I suggested old buildings be torn down and turned into a park/ community center. for community festivals and pic-nics. a place where there are stands instead of buildings so that when a turenchal storm comes in people can pack up their stands and move to higher ground. We can call it Historic Ellicott City Vailly State Park.

the shopping center won't be build directly above Old Ellicott City, just in a nearby town or community. Savage mills factory shopping center has antique shops in it. Is there nearby land to build a new shopping center on?
