Creating A Disneyland Castle Projection Show

I wanted to create this show for the Disney fans that not only are missing the parks but the magic as well. Like every project I take on I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to push the limits of the knowledge I knew and learn some new skills.
During this video, I'm going to take you on the journey of my first attempt at recreating the magic of a Disneyland Castle show, from home. I knew developing something like this would be a challenge. It almost felt impossible to me but like Walt once said, "It's kind of fun to do the impossible".
While building the white model of the castle, my brain was working overtime, trying to figure the "HOW" in the project. I knew very little about projection mapping or creating animations in "After Effects," but it's all about taking an idea and using your imagination, knowledge, and skills that you do have to bring it to life.
There were plenty of long days and sleepless nights while my brain kept bouncing ideas from wall to wall, but that was the best part of the journey.
The curiosity to learn something new, truly developed this project from the start. I have always had a great appreciation for projection shows or any type of live entertainment, in particular the artistry that goes on behind the scenes. So I really wanted to create my own and share it with the world that might need it right now.
Working with my new projection mapping tool the Lightform LFC, I was able to learn the process and create something fun.

I'm a big Disney fan and have been trying projection mapping for quite some time now.
I am still very bad at it, but doubt whether I might also have a Lightform LFC.
maybe you could make tutorials on how to do everything, that would be great because there are few good tuturials !

That was really really well done! I hope this video gets a ton more views, it deserves it. You may want to make an instructable and then link it to this video to pull in that DIY community, though they'll want to know stuff like the mapping software used and such (It was interesting to see the structured light mapping...). Regardless this was great work, really well done!

@@ElementsofImagination Yep! One of the ways I got some of my projects a lot of exposure was to create instructables there that explained how to do them, and link to the youtube video as the demo to show it off. Instructables is it's own community, so you don't compete with the search terms that youtube provides. Two of my instructables sent about 8,000 views each to two of my videos when I was just getting started on youtube...but more importantly, it got the work I did exposed a bit more and helped others that wanted to do it. It's just an idea based on what you want to get out of this..if you want them to simply enjoy the show that'd be a different route, but if you want to inspire to build it, then an instructables article is the way to go IMO!

How did you sync your audio up with Lightform?

@DonIsbell Thank you! I created the show mainly in after effects and synced the audio there. Then I placed the footage into the masked I created in Lightform Creator. I just released a new video using Lightform that might help. Check it out!
Is it possible you could use FWSim for the fireworks and export the video into the projection software
This is the first time I’ve heard of FWSim. Just looked it up and it looks awesome! I’m sure you are able to export it and use it. I might have to try this next time! Thank you for this!
Amazing work. How did you automate the presentation in light form with sound? Also is there anyway to cue the presentation in light form?
Thank you! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I was not able to automate it in Lightform. I was able to cue it in Aftereffects with the music. I do believe there are some extensions to help Lightform react with music but I do not believe we have the ability to cue things in that program.

kevin king thank you! Lightform was fantastic! It’s great for people like myself who want to get into projection mapping but have no prior experience. Very intuitive and easy to work with. It’s takes a while to learn but its super fun to play with.

How did you control and play the sound?

Thank you! I absolutely love my Lightform! I’m still learning it as well. The majority of my animation was built with Adobe After Effects with a bit of editing to get the sound to match up. Unfortunately I don’t believe Lightform has that capability, so I just made it work. I appreciate you checking out the project!
What a website did you use to map projections and edit them of the picture of the castle
I created the show using adobe after effects and mapped it using the Lightform Creator Software.

Olszewski Disneyland Main Street USA Fan - I use quite a few computer programs to create this show. First I created the castle using illustrator. I then created the show using a product called lightform. It’s an awesome projection mapping tool. I created the context for the show using its software and some animation using Adobe After Effects. Hope this helps!

@@jeremyplayzyt there are many ways to projection map and many different programs that can help you do so. There are also tones of really awesome videos on RUclips. I’d suggest searing for “how to projection map” on RUclips. There are honestly lots of different ways depending on what you programs you may be used to or know how to use.

@MCPWishesParks I built the drafting in Adobe Illustrator, Cut it out using my Glowforge and Created the show in Adobe After effects. Then I projection mapped it using my Lightform. Hope this helps!

@nicoleng hi, thanks for reaching out. Yes, unfortunately Lightform is not longer in business . There product it’s really amazing. If you can’t find a used Lightform projector anywhere, any projector will work. lightform is just amazing, simple and a user friendly way to map things with there software. There are some amazing videos on RUclips about projection mapping using Adobe after effects, I’d check those out if you haven’t. But really the projector can be anything you want. It all depends on what you are trying to map and the size you may need.
