    I have a 2022 sequoia 5.7 v8 with 6 speed. I tow a 5100 dry weight 30 ft trailer. It does very well with power and brakes! I was even more shocked this weekend when I went up and down some 8 percent grades fully loaded with wife and 4 kids. My guess is I am pushing payload a bit. I spent 2 hours calculating out my equalizer hitch and it rides amazing! When it gets windy I just slow down a bit, no worth the rush. You are welcome to test my 2022 and compare to the 2023. I am just down a bit from you in Utah :)

      EXACTLY. You’d think that since they don’t offer a 3/4T or 1T pickup, they would offer high payload packages on the Tundra and Sequoia. Especially since the iForce Max puts out more power than every gas-engine HD truck on the market. But nope. Unbelievable.

    • @andyham6094
      @andyham6094 2 года назад +6

      That’s what the market is right now. All the prices are insane for everything. 10,000 difference between last gen and this new one is a good price difference for what you get compared to the old one. All the new tech inside and the new hybrid power train. Basically everything is new. 10,000 is a big difference and expensive for a base model but the pricing does make sense when compared to last gen but the market in general just sucks right now but I’m sure automakers and dealerships are loving it. Not just Toyota but every manufacturer has insanely steep prices and that’s without stealership markups. I think consumers would swallow the fact prices have gone up but when dealerships add their markups it’s just an extra slap in the face and just doesn’t make sense it pay that much for markups.

    The purpose of a non-plug in hybrid like this is to save money on city mileage.
    So basically the population density of where you drive should dictate the value of this purchase. There is no regenerative braking on the highway. Which is why hybrids always get amazing city mpg and average highway mpg compared to non-hybrids.
    You guys in rural areas, hybrid won’t do anything for you.
    You guys in dense suburbia with a stop sign every 1/4 mile. This will give you 18-20mpg instead of the 12-13mpg you’d normally get with an suv this size. Huge savings in that environment.

    I really want to like the new sequoia, but Toyota dropped the ball on everything behind the second row. The hybrid battery ruins third row leg and head space. And try as they might I’m not sold on the whole shelf system for the cargo area. Overly complicated for what should be a simple open space. The hybrid power train should have been an option not standard on all models. This works on the Tundra because the Tundra is obviously a pickup without a third row and enclosed cargo area. What executive or engineer signed off on this? I see that hybrid battery disappearing or being moved forward during a mid cycle refresh in a few years. After they fail to make a dent in Tahoe or Expedition sales because of it.

      A hybrid vehicle is no more efficient for steady highway speeds when wind drag is primary factor in power required to propel vehicle. It is city driving where the huge differences emerge. Lookup average speed of car or truck over lifetime in US. It is only about 40 mph. A lot of time at 0 mpg which hybrids mostly eliminate. The overall hybrid mpg average is up to 50 percent higher than standard powertrain.

    Andre, you broke my heart. I knew pricing was going to increase but this is painful. Especially since all along Toyota kept saying that the 23 Sequoia was made possible because of all the development time and money saved by using so much of the Tundra. Yet they added a huge premium over the Tundra. Over a 6 grand price difference between the two in platinum trim. That's a kick in the nuts.

      @@jeremycook9852 I know the SUV is always more than it's pickup counterpart. However, Toyota was really pushing the time and cost savings in every interview. Even stressing what a saving it was to move Sequoia production to the Tundra plant. If this is the result of saving on top of saving on top of saving, I would hate to see how much it would have been if they had to develop it from the ground up. The other disappointment in the pricing comes from the fact that it still has shortcomings compared to its competitors, like no AWD. I'm pretty sure that this is the only 4WD vehicle on the planet that doesn't have an auto feature even as an option. If they were going to charge thousands more they could have at least spent some time and money to develop that.

  • @pyrolysis2129
