Makita saw over the holidays was 250 bucks for the kit, plus another (2) 5.0ah batteries. I bought it just for the batteries and charger's value, the saw was more than free at that point.
I have the makita and it is a smooth beast. Lighter, faster charge(with the dual charger), better build quality, better line of site, and cheaper! Love all my makita tools
Good comparison. I decided to go with the Dewalt after seeing some reviews on here and I wasn't disappointed. The amount of torque it has is unreasonable lol. Anyone should feel lucky to have either one of those saws imo.
*Works great **MyBest.Tools** . Little lacking in power. You just have to cut a little slower. Compare to Rockwell pretty similar experience but cheaper price tag for this one. Love the lightest. Cuts accurately too.*

This year one might be up, next year, a different brand on top. Bought this Makita saw about two months ago over here in the UK, I am a Makita fan and agree about the battery size, i can carry just the one charger to site and charge any of my other Makita tools. Much of my work is away from any power source so when I saw this model it was a must have tool. I like the weight and feel of the saw, although I would agree on your point about the hook being too wide and it overbalances off the joists, although my primary reason for getting this saw was to cut roofing OSB boards/sheets. Contacted Makita to ask about a hard case but they don't make one, then had to buy an alternative bag as none was supplied in the box or is available yet over here. I like your reviews Dan, very informative with plenty detail.

I used to own the Makita... I always had batteries charged up because the tool couldn't empty the power faster than the charger refilled them. The DeWalt charger did not keep up with the tool.. ended up selling instead of working
I've been doing some comparison shopping here and I think I'm gonna go with Makita. I'm not in the trades but do enough remodeling and diy building around the house that my Ryobi 18v saws are just not up to the task. Even having bought their latest brushless saw I can't even rip a piece of 1/2" plywood without binding multiple times. The Dewalt is just too pricey for me and having specialized batteries seems like a real hassle.
If half inch plywood is binding, consider how you are placing it on cutting base and how running the saw through the board. Merely adding grunt could mask the issue and end up with a more powerful jump out of the binding. As for this multiple cuts test, I'm not sure how useful it is. Balance of saw in hand and up on roof is surely what matters and what works better for one person may not be so good for another
