Thanks Camila - there has been so much negativity about this year’s longlist on Booktube (before reading), which I just don’t understand. You’d think people who love reading would be more open minded about new books they haven’t heard of. So thank you for being so much more positive than most 😊
River East River West is my next book. But I just am afraid of it a little. I've read 6 of the books, on my 7th. Do far my favourites are Nightbloom and And Then She Fell.
I managed to renew Nightbloom from the library so I am starting it this week. I think And Then She Fell is pretty good so far. Thanks for talking about The Maiden and River East River West - I think I will pass on them in favour of Soldier Sailor, Ordinary Human Failings and Brotherless Night. Still waiting on The Wren The Wren from the library! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on In Defence of The Act...
Lots of respect for you and other people who read the entire longlist, I think if I attempted this I would start hating litfic 😂 I read litfic in small doses, so many heavy topics, just as you said!
hahaha I do start to hate lit fic at that time of year, but it's been so good to discover titles I would never otherwise read, so always keen to get surprised by the list!
I disliked both of the characters in River East River West and had no interest in the plot so DNFed. Don’t think that one was for me at all. So I’m glad I didn’t continue. I am nowhere near halfway with the longlist reading. I’ve finished Western Lane and Soldier Sailor. DNFed River East River West and I’ve tried the audiobooks of two others that I will try again in physical. Started 8 Lives of a Century Old Trickster. So I’m going slowly. 😂 I hope you’re feeling better.
I definitely get it! If it hadn't been audio I wouldn't have felt like I needed to finish River East, River West either. I'm not halfway through the list either actually, although I'm almost finished by 7th book! Which was your favourite up to now?
Great reviews 😊 really enjoyed your thoughts. I've finished restless Dolly maunder (3.75*) and the wren, the wren (2.5*). I'm currently listening to Nightbloom which I'm very much enjoying, and reading the maiden - only about 80p in so far. Brotherless night will be next as I have it from the library.
The font...horrid! But the book was great! I recommend it actually if you ever get to it! My library even got it recently - I know you're in another country but maybe a good way to get your hands on it!
@@hasteyebooks i unfortunately doubt the library will get this. They are limited on the publishers they can buy from and I think this one is from a small publisher, which means they will probably not get it…

Aw you're so welcome! And thank you for your lovely comment! My next video with 3 more reviews is even more positive haha

That's great to hear! I'm also almost done my 7th now! Nightbloom is up there on my list right now!
I dnf'd River East River West. I liked In Defense of The Act. I thought it was well done. I'm not sure why but the font didn't bother me.
Now that I've started reading it the font is becoming less and less of an issue. I think it was just a shocker when I opened it 😆
I liked The Wren, The Wren, but it does start off in a disorienting way and it all kind of comes together in just one chapter near the end.
Yeah I don't think it was a great one for audio, sadly for me! But I don't have the interest to go back to it in print version😬

So happy to hear of other people's reading journey too! I need to catch up on videos now so I can see what you thought about all of these!

The font reaction 😂
The font 🤪 When I reopened it a few weeks later I was shocked, totally forgot. But it passes as you read. 😂

In defence of the act was one of the ones that I was most interested in actually, but yes, I am not sure I want to buy it...
