  • Check out our first episode about training coonhounds! We are not coon hunting experts but wanted to share our journey with you. We are learning every time we hit the woods whether we have the pups with us or an experienced coon dog.
    About this Episode:
Zach and Corey from Conkey's Outdoors hit the woods 5 nights a week with a few young coonhounds and most of the time their families. In this episode we have Swamp Walker River Bank ( Out of Money In The Bank), Swamp Walker Charlee (Out of Charley Creek Bad Butch) and our newest dog Jenny the Bluetick. It's Jenny's first time in the woods and she trees a possum. The older pups get the job done! It's always exciting doing a little coonhound training. They also show off some of the great products we sale at Conkeys.com.
Please let us know what you think about the first episode and questions, tips and critique is welcome! We hope you enjoy Episode one of Making A Coonhound brought to you by Conkey's Outdoors

Great video and as a dog hunter myself in SC I totally agree with you on how you handle Jenny running that possum. Very informative thankyou.

Right off the bat don’t let them dogs motor mouth in the truck. And yes that is a bad habit that gets harder to break the longer you do it!

My dad used to take a rope and tie it around the dogs neck run it out of the dog box in through the window of the truck when a mouthy dog would start singing he would start snatching that rope it did not take long before it would shut up and ride right

They are smarter than people give them credit for. A person can only train them to handle and shut up and jump in the back of the truck, the rest is giving them exposure to the game your after. Most dogs I feel sorry for because they never get hunted.

Is it to late to train my 2.5 year old blue tic to coonhunt ?

Nope no age limit, may be a bit late if you want to do competition alot of pups start real young and have a ton of experience by year 3, my girl is 3 and we just started training her to tree like 6 months ago, life just gets in the way sometimes (she's doing great as long as I can keep her teeth off the coon)

absolutely not I know someone that got a walker dog it was about 2 and had never been hunted they took it hunting and it showed a real interest in hunting it started running and treeing a little bit but by the next coon season it was running and treeing it's own coon's turned out to be a good dog....
