I was one of the best in English language in my school. Especially a great listener. I moved from Greece to NW England, (Wigan, between Liverpool and Manchester). The first day I went to a local pub and I realise that I couldn't understand, I thought that they spoke a different language. After 6 years, there are some persons that I can't understand when they speak fast. My sons in Greece laugh with my accent. It changed to more local than it used to be.
Aww, you sound so disappointed. You thought everyone sounded like Downton Abbey didn't you? I don't think there's any country in the world that has such a variety of accents in such a small area.

The moment she said even she had to use subtitles when watching peaky blinders I felt relieved and more self-confident about my understanding of english because I was desperately trying to watch it without any kind of subtitles

We are a family of Japanese origin who spent a big portion of our life in US but we also lived in Birmingham UK for nearly 7 years. I liked the Birmingham accent except it was very difficult to understand for me. I remember ladies there speak sing-songy way and I thought that was very cute, again I had to concentrate so that I can understand what they were saying. In any case, it is a wonderful memory. My older son a gown up man speaks with a slight British access even though it has been many years since he left UK.
Funny that you chose Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders for the Brummie accent. The character is played by Cillian Murphy who is actually Irish, although he puts on the accent very well.
Was the only Thai(also the only asian) working in a photographic studio in kensal green. The rest were British(one from liverpool), Welsh and Irish. Got to say that the learning curve was unexpectedly steep.
Nice to hear regional British accents, even if most examples are gentler than the more extreme versions. I’m from the North East of England and people living in one part of Newcastle struggle to understand some from the other side of the city. Very different to here in the USA and even more so than in Australia. Yes, I know Texans don’t sound like New Yorkers and, even in New York, there are local differences, but in the UK you travel much shorter distances to get much more marked differences.

It always amazes me how many different accents there are in quite a small country/ies. They can change in a matter of a mile or two. The US is quite large and we do have many accents but I feel that the difference is actually much more in Britain. Most Brits can do a Boston/New York/Texas accent. I would be hard pressed to distinguish different British accents. There are a few that are obvious like cockney and RP but even Glasgow and Edinburgh are different. I usually can pick out Liverpool because of the Beatles.

Hi. Could you prepare a full list containing all the necessary words which we need to know for the listening section of the IELTS exam? I did listen to the American and Canadian radios for 1 year, and now when I hear a sound in which a person speaks with a British accent, I really confuse. Thanks.
That was really informative. The features were very well explained. Unfortunately, many British accent and dialect studies fall short when it comes to parts outside England. I used to live in Aberdeen for a year. The local Doric dialect is quite peculiar and so there are in many parts, for example also on Orkney and the Shetlands or the west coast that are basically never considered.

I'm from Argentine, I really like the English language and I must say that everything I know about the language is thanks to the movies and the music I have listened to ... I understand more when an American speaks than a British, but I must confess that English From England it sounds much more elegant, with more class, I don't know how to explain it, but it is like that
I’m a beginner student of English.. but I could say , that beautiful lady have some special energy to teach.. maybe her voice, accent or her tone make me get happily hypnotic …!! I could be listening her for life..!! 😎
I love the British accent it sounds quite elegant and we'll mannered. I read Harry Potter and watch many shows with British accents so much that my accent becomes American to British
Scotland is such a beautiful place, I remember when I first went out, a lady asked my something, and I didn´t get it. They speak so low, like whispering, I thought I was getting deaf .
I would guess you were in Edinburgh? Edinburgh and Glasgow are only around 60 or 70 miles apart, yet the accent is completely different. The Edinburgh accent is very, very soft, quiet and well pronounced. The Glaswegian accent is generally very quickly spoken in a harsh, loud and quite hard to understand. There will be other parts of Scotland with softer or harsher accents but I know the Edinburgh one as I've been there and it's a wonderful accent. I could listen to the Edinburgh accent all day long! The Glaswegian accent can be very hard to understand at first, but after a few minutes it gets easier. Like the whole of the UK, Scotland has many different accents and dialects so none of the 4 countries in the UK have a 'standard' accent - they can be very different to another town or city just 30 miles away.
As a German, British English is actually more comfortable for me to speak than American English. In high German we don't use Glottal letters, we use true letters. That's why it's easier, for me at least.
Spanish speaker here. Actually british accent is easier to pronounce at some points. I find kinda hard to pronounce word with T’s and R’s in American accent like water, father, etc.

Uk has so many dialects and pronunciations for words, some change within a few miles. No use in teaching anything in an accent or cutting or changing words, too complex. Only when you live in a specific area is when ur accent changes and you pick up them pronunciations.
Hi I Love British from my Heart 💓 Thank you so much for helping us to understand and difference between Accents. I wish I could meet you once..GOD Bless you
That is amazing, all my life I have learned a more Americanised English in school (I am french) and would really love to learn French in UK. But as you might think, if you don't understand the local accent of your students, it might be difficult or even impossible to teach anything

I'm fascinated by the tendency in both British and American english to pronounce "L" as "W" or "OO". "Little" can become "wittoo" and "world" becomes "wood", rhyming with "brood".
Actually I prefer American english it's very pushover to understand sometimes compared to British accent , British people tend to strengthen their speech and exaggerate sometimes , so it's a little tricky to me to understand them but however they have very attractive accent it's just very beautiful more than american but unfortunately it's very hard to speak like them .
Scottish is the worst for me, I've been a die hard fan of Manchester United since 1998, and the hardest part of being Man United fan is to understand Sir Alex's accent.
I don't think so. Im learning british english very long time though. Their accent sounds heavier than American. And they utilise difficult vocabularies to communicate with. They are knowledgeable and intelligent human ever in the globe.

I am Aryan Yadav from India and Britishers ruled Indian for a period of around 200years and so Indian's are generally taught British English in schools but yes we do fell the scarcity of real life fluent native coaches and 'Learn English with tv series ' is changing that scenario and is arming us with the tool of comprehending natives easily and naturally . At last but not the least thanks for your commendable efforts.
I love both American and British accents. If you want to find the best of both the world's you can find it in my favorite channel. No,no, not my channel our favorite channel and that is Learn English with TV series
I like both accents. But I prefer the British one. I think it's more…-well how can I say- correct at pronouncing the words and vowels. And also it's correct at grammar. British always speak polite and professional English. They never swear in conversations, as I see. Edit: Now I know that they swear. Edit again: Thank you guys for telling me my mistakes. Woah! There was a lot of mistakes in my comment. Because I'm just a 12-year-old English student and still trying to level up.
A very strange thing happened while watching this video. I'm a native cockney speaker of 60 years so far, and found myself fascinated by the explanation of the "London" or "Cockney" accent, I found myself thinking, "Ah ok, so that's how we speak and make those words sound like that". It's strange how we never seem to notice these things until the "Mechanics" of it are explained. Speaking with your natural accent is so first nature, isn't it? Thanks for a very informative and interesting video.
Hi, everyone! My name is Omer. I'm an intermediate. I live in Kurdistan. I've been studying English for few years. I can easily understand what people say, but I have a problem on my English speaking skill. I'd love to practice with you.
Hey! This might be a late reply but do you know about those websites/apps where people interact with each other to teach their languages? I can't remember the name but you can just google it.
These were some of the coolest accents I've ever heard. Especially the accents in Peaky Blinders are so much fun to listen to. Could you guys make a video on the Afro American accent because listening to it is pure delight and quite amusing as well.
In today's cancel culture, they'd probably get accused of cultural appropriation or other such nonsense in an attempt to shut them down. Probably safer to avoid that.
Great Video! I am an Italian living in Dublin and I can definitely see that there are some sounds, like the "pUb" but also the "myself" that I'm more used to hear. Even if in Ireland there are also sooo many differences for such a small island! Like in Derry girls! And I have been watching "Staged" by Tennant and Sheen to practise a bit of listening in different accents :)
I would like to speak with a British accent, but I still use the American one. I'm Italian, and personally I think the American accent is much easier to understand than the British one.
@@yi-wenhuang8857 British English is teached at school but the accent of the professors is horrible, it doesn't look British at all, so I have to learn everything by myself
Actually its just the way you will write that will be very .... different And then your Italian background, you will have to adapt with the accent that you will like to have.
The subtitles for Liam Gallagher are wrong. He actually says "I'm not gonna go in too heavy and that" not "I'm not going to go into everything". Kind of perfectly illustrating the point that even English people sometimes have difficulty understanding other English accents!
I'm Brazilian and the Scotland accent is almost impossible to understand, they definitely don't speak all the syllables. The easiest to understand is the London accent. The difference of each accent recalls me Brazil itself, because it's hard to me understand a Northeastern Brazilian being a Southern Brazilian.

Oh yeah ! Let's start this session with full of enthusiasm. ❤️
Who wants more videos on British accent?

Thank you very much Andrea! Please keep going with these series "British Accents". You rock!
Thanks for your feedback and you're most welcome!
The British accent is the most accurate, natural, literate, perfectly suits for perfectionists. I love it so much.
There's multiple accents here so which one are u referring to?
Cillian Murphy's Birmingham accent is so amazing.
I love the British accent it sounds quite elegant and we'll mannered. I read Harry Potter and watch many shows with British accents so much that my accent becomes American to British
You could recommend me some, please
Scotland is such a beautiful place, I remember when I first went out, a lady asked my something, and I didn´t get it. They speak so low, like whispering, I thought I was getting deaf .
Hi have a beautiful day. Hi we can practice English speaking I need to improve my English accent
Try wales breathtaking scenery
As a German, British English is actually more comfortable for me to speak than American English.
In high German we don't use Glottal letters, we use true letters. That's why it's easier, for me at least.
But Brits use the glottal T and Americans don’t, so I’m not sure I understand your logic.
Mir geht's genauso ☺️
The video is very beneficial, thank you
Even if I didn't understand everything because I'm a beginner, I feel that you have a nice accent, thank you very much.
You're welcome 😊
This video helped me to understand much better these kind of british accent things. Thank you for your lovely explanation ❤
I'm so glad!
Spanish speaker here. Actually british accent is easier to pronounce at some points. I find kinda hard to pronounce word with T’s and R’s in American accent like water, father, etc.
I just Want to understand Harry Potter Movies without subtitles😅
I want to understand ur name

Jimmy McCavern from the Billy boys in peaky blinders is also from glasgow hence raw scottish accent!😅
Amazing lesson, the maps helped a lot. Exactly what I was looking for. Another video covering irish accents would be awesome
❤
It's one of the best chanels I've known to this day. Thank you so much🌺
Thanks!
This lady hosting this lesson is the most beautiful human I've seen this year, all year
I am actually binge watching these banging lessons. And I wanna say that they are helping me a lot in improving my English:)
❤
I teach English language presently, and do appreciate your clarifications. I'd stick to the King's English therefore, to avoid confusion. I wish you could do a production for non - native teachers, who would prefer sticking to the King's. Thanks so much.
❤
Uk has so many dialects and pronunciations for words, some change within a few miles. No use in teaching anything in an accent or cutting or changing words, too complex. Only when you live in a specific area is when ur accent changes and you pick up them pronunciations.
The “r” in Italy sound very similar to the “r” in Scotland
I think too.
E' quello che ho pensato anch'io durante l'ascolto :)
Same in Czech :-D
In parts of southern Germany, too.
Hi I Love British from my Heart 💓 Thank you so much for helping us to understand and difference between Accents. I wish I could meet you once..GOD Bless you
you r very good in teaching something, calm and patience u have. thanks for the videos.
That is amazing, all my life I have learned a more Americanised English in school (I am french) and would really love to learn French in UK. But as you might think, if you don't understand the local accent of your students, it might be difficult or even impossible to teach anything
I'm very hyped and excited right now !! Cant wait to watch this video and learn many things , guys your very precious people we're very lucky to have channel like this one it's just very fascinating and impeccable to learn english ,we appreciate all of your efforts, you're working very hard to make this stupendous explanation , thanks alot💙💙💙wish you all the best in your life .
I have learned "mеself " from my English neighbour, a lady in her 90th with a rough cockney accent)))
it 's helpful for me ,thanks!
I'm fascinated by the tendency in both British and American english to pronounce "L" as "W" or "OO". "Little" can become "wittoo" and "world" becomes "wood", rhyming with "brood".
I love the British english! 😘🇬🇧
It really can't help that the accent in Britain changes every 5-10 miles.
Sorry.
I don't think so. Im learning british english very long time though. Their accent sounds heavier than American. And they utilise difficult vocabularies to communicate with. They are knowledgeable and intelligent human ever in the globe.
🤮
I dont think we exaggerate
Andrea - so nice to hear a classic, clear & well defined English accent. Thanks.
❤
I'm Syrian, I love British accent 😍, I'm learning right now english in Westminster college paddington, I was interested to learn more accent skills, I like ur video like other you tubers, good luck sweetheart 😘.
It would be interesting to learn about Adele's accent. She speaks so fast
By the way it is really helpfull
Very interesting and love British English sooo much!!
Such an adorable accent. Classy and elegant
Lol, that is so not true 😁 The Brits not swearing I mean.
@@asiam.5671 Now, I see 😁
Swearing is part of British culture
Grammar. Spelling matters my dear.
If you watch bbc then no but they can swear after the 9pm watershed.
❤
Emma Watson! 💘
British accent is my favorite. ❤️🇬🇧
"What's up, everyone?" Quietly eases off safety catch on Browning.
Whether British or American English
Sound great to me...
@@ipshita5147
I wasn't knowing, but now i have some sites and groups to improve my english.
Thanks for your replied. 😍
Peaky Blinders Brummie is the most cultured Brummie I've ever heard. They should actually just use real locals.
❤
You've got an excellent British accent I really like it
Thank you so soooooO muchhhH for your pdfs and lessons so we can study them and pronounce well. Thanks a lot 😁😊
@@donalkinsella4380 I know, totally
@@donalkinsella4380 never said that nor suggested that. Please go argue somewhere else
Thomas John "Tom" Ellis nice accents)
I would like to speak with a British accent, but I still use the American one.
I'm Italian, and personally I think the American accent is much easier to understand than the British one.
Are you learning American or British. We are learning contradictory.
@@yi-wenhuang8857 British English is teached at school but the accent of the professors is horrible, it doesn't look British at all, so I have to learn everything by myself
Actually its just the way you will write that will be very .... different
And then your Italian background, you will have to adapt with the accent that you will like to have.
I am non native English speaker, but RP is good for me, very clear and understandable to me.
The subtitles for Liam Gallagher are wrong. He actually says "I'm not gonna go in too heavy and that" not "I'm not going to go into everything". Kind of perfectly illustrating the point that even English people sometimes have difficulty understanding other English accents!
What I learned from this: it’s either "brittish" or "bri ish"
Pretty (or Pri -ey) much ... Depending on whether you're upper class/middle class or working class.
you got it, its the 2nd one
I LOVE BRI’ISH ACCENT
I'm Brazilian and the Scotland accent is almost impossible to understand, they definitely don't speak all the syllables. The easiest to understand is the London accent. The difference of each accent recalls me Brazil itself, because it's hard to me understand a Northeastern Brazilian being a Southern Brazilian.
Álvaro, entender os escoceses é só questão de hábito. Gaste algum tempo lá e fica mais fácil, você até pega o sotaque deles ...
I love how Thomas Shelby talks. That makes addicted to english (British english).
EMMA OF COURSE! She has a very strong accent. I love her.
Can't wait Pls make avideo about this man appeared the picture I love his movies
