Dear Justine - I absolutely love how at age 61 I learn something new from each of your videos! Please keep sharing your wonderful knowledge with us. Thanks so much! Saundra
It's not just that you're talented as an artist Justine, but it's your willingness to share your knowledge with us, explain to us what's happening, and make it enjoyable to watch. You are a talented teacher.
I am a doctor..... even though a lot of these do not relate to me in sense of profession, i click on each of your videos and watch them till the end. You are such joy to watch:) i love the fact that you are an artist and art has no boundaries:)
Your talents are endless. With you it is new each time. You keep our attention with each video. But best of all I enjoy each minute I am here watching your video. I never find it boring but interesting. You making learning fun.
Love sharing these with my teen granddaughter. She has been drawing fashion for several years. Important for her to see the whole picture of this industry. You are an excellent role model. Thank you
Even though I know nothing about fashion or drawing, I have watched this video multiple times because it is so extraordinarily calming. Thank you for uploading!
Merci, Justine! fascinating to see the difference between ADs & Copics in action. I can see using each for specific applications, when you're going for a certain effect. Looking forward to seeing more of your design process.
Watching this tutorial was so therapeutic! You are so talented. And I must say, I become almost hypnotized when I watch your videos. It's like I can't stop watching them; I'm supposed to be doing so many other things right now.....cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. But I keep telling myself, " Just one more video.......". 😉. You have us all under your spell, Justine!
I have been waiting for this video for 2 years! Thank you! I'm not a fashion designer, but you inspired me to get into fashion drawing! I can't wait to see more like this!
Thank God you made a video like this again! This is the only reason I subscribed to your channel, your videos are best of all other tutorials I have seen on RUclips, please make every possible video like this
I prefer the ad-chartpak! merci Justine pour être si précise et si juste dans le détail! je fais de la peinture et du dessin et vous m'apprenez beaucoup!
Your videos are so interesting and educational. I love seeing the world through your eyes, and learning about it from another point of view. Thank you.
Hi, Justine, thank you for this beautiful and instructive video! I liked the face with Copic better and the body painted with the other pen. I love to paint, so I enjoyed every second of it - but I enjoyed every second of all your previous videos too! Xoxo!
Wonderful watching you work, Justine! I preferred the sketch colored with the Copic Markers as the finished sketch resembled watercolor but I agree, the fluttering top needed more intense color. What the heck....use them both! Thanks for another good video.
Justine! With Copic markers you have to use the refill ink bottles when the markers are too dry. Basically the markers are one-time buys just to draw/colour. When they become too dry, you add extra ink from the refillers and voilà, good as new :)
I love the color choices. They are subtle and beautiful.. I enjoy working with markers, and have not tried these yet. I am familiar with Coptic. Thank you. Very enjoyable.
I love fashion.. designing.. I have thoughts but no finance and good collage to study... I was losing.. but now.. I am designing as you did.... You did for me.. thanks a lots... keep sharing...
This was really interesting to watch as I've got several different brands of alcohol markers and Copics have always been the wettest/most blendable for me. I will say, my Copics look totally different from yours. I think yours are from the "Ciao" line, whereas mine are from the "Sketch" line. I wonder if Sketch would be more analogous to the AD Chartpaks you regularly use. Very neat to see how your favorites performed, though! Given how much they soak into the paper, I thoroughly enjoyed watching you handle them expertly. Thank you for posting this video and have a beautiful day! ☺
Love them both. In my architectural renderings I use 3 different marker companies products. Like you demonstrated they read differently when used. Much thanks for all you do.
Though I have little knowledge on creating, even to me, this is very Interesting and easy to follow! Thank you, Justine! Can't wait for your next project!!!!!😘
Firstly, i LOVE the music selection, Justine! Really enjoyed watching this aspect of your creative process! Especially the information about how to make two makers look like three (blending) - fantastic. I've always wondered about that effect having not gone to art school but love painting, drawing, etc. I love the intensity of the colors from the chartpack but the smooth effect and movement from the coptic side is really nice. I think blending them (as you probably do, I suspect) in one piece for overall effect of both bold colors and movement/shadowing would be my choice. Thanks for sharing.
I *LOVE* my Chartpaks! I use them more like you use the Copics here, where I switch back and forth between hues to get a really smooth blend. You can significantly alter the shade (like the yellow pant shadow) by really building up multiple layers, so I like doing that, or using a light, gray tone of a complimentary color (purple for the yellow pants). But, BOY are they fragrant, haha! That makes me want to branch out into Copics. Thanks for the video! The side-by-side comparison is helpful!
+AceMyPlace I also tried layering on Copic, the gradients look smoother on Copic but layering works better on Chartpak... (in my opinion) If only one brand could be best in everything 😅
I don't know why your set of Copics was so dry, because mine are usually pretty juicy when I buy them. Also, you bought a set that'd I say are mostly used in skin tones, it's why they're so light. They're meant to be the lightest tone, and you're meant to build on those.
I have not, but that's because I haven't seen them at my local art store! This video has made me curious, though, so I think I'll order some online. I love markers and inks, so I'm always on the hunt to try something new!
Yes I was wondering why her copics were not juicy as well, as mine are very juicy, and there are closer colour matches to what she used in the comic range....
I think she just got a bad batch of markers! I hope she gives them another try, though. Copics are awesome, and they could really compliment her AD markers!
wow your videos see a lot better than fashion course i was actually looking forward a proper free home course but could not find one but this is just great i m actually gonna try keep it up
Thanks for all your awesome videos, Justine. I have used Copics for years, and I'd like to share two things: First, you have a dried out set of markers. Copics are very wet when filled. The good news is you can refill your plastic cartridges with ink (you may want to take them back to the store and let them know they're dried out!). Secondly, I encourage you to read up on the numbering system. The first digit (0-9) indicates that saturation/intensity of the color, while the second digit (also 0-9) indicates the brightness of the color. I can see by the numbers on your pens that you are using less saturated, paler markers (someone said it's probably a pale "skin tone" set, and I'm guessing that's correct). You may want to borrow some brighter, more saturated colors and see what you think! Also try the different nibs.
To me, this is so old school. :) Nice to see. We used to use Pantone markers. But they are so expensive and they dried up so quickly! Now I would make the sketch by hand and just scan it and colour it in Photoshop.
Really interesting! I like the AD Chartpak flow and look. It might be more effort to get the contrast but I work with watercolor so I I understand about layering the applications. It might take some getting used to to spreading though. I also like the color of your background today. The grey is nice but a change is fun!
During the whole process I preferred the AD but at the end I like the copic better - just because of the pants. They look so much better in the copic!! Although the blouse look way better and alive in the AD so I guess a mix if possible lol
Thank you Justine! Your videos are beautifully produced and your personality is very accessible and warm. I have learned so very much! Michelle, age 59, from Chicago, USA
I enjoyed this video, but as I'm not an artist or designer, it not capture my interest as much as previous videos - but as you presented the information so well, it was interesting to watch. Question - why doesn't a designer scan their images into computer package and then use a colour palette, or create new shades, without having to resort to a few expensive colour pens? I would have thought this would give an option to change hues without having to recreate the image again & again by hand. Apologies if my lack of knowledge about art works has overlooked an obvious reason.
+Annie Jones designers do use computer-based coloring too, but I like to go analog sometimes :-) Also: you need the same knowledge of color and techniques in both cases, to get a rendering that looks realistic 😉
Rhea Thaker me, too! Plus, you can refill them forever (better for the environment), and they have no nasty, toxic smell like the AD. I think Justine also chose her colors based on the cap or based on the equivalent names of the AD? There is a super wide selection of colors in Copic, not to mention the variety of nibs. I draw landscape plans and would not trade my Copics for anything! My former boss in Germany gave me a whole set of Copics when I left for the U.S. , and this remains one of my most cherished gifts!
It depends on what size of artwork you are working on, large seamless blends and gradations of color, chartpak all the way, the solvent in the marker always leaves the nib nice and wet. When I try and do the same thing with my copics, they dry out. I used to be a Copic fanboy, but after starting to use chartpaks in my design class this year, I can say that for lots of fast sketching, chartpak
The Chartpak seems more efficient, but the Copic is more nuanced . . . depends on needs, I guess. I wonder how I managed in all those art classes with the bleed-o-rama that is plain old Berol Prismacolor, for which I still have a soft spot in my heart? ; ) TFP!
tamcon72 me too and Design markers! Did you ever use those? When I went to art school many moons ago we were given Design markers. They had a clear blender.
Fantastic! The very first youtube video of yours I watched was the 'drawing of the girl' because I was interested in how to draw out what I want to sew. So this is great, thank you
Looking forward to the next few videos too. I love to sew, and I'm rural and with winter coming... my plan is to be creative and hopefully doing it as well as I can. So any tips will be helpful! Thanks for the effort you put in.
Well, I have only used Copic and my colleagues too simply because I haven't seen Chartpak in my country. What I like about Copic it's that you can create texture with it and it has quite nice selection of colors. But I have to agree, the Chartpak has more intense color and the ability to fill in a surface could be quite handy. Anyway, I think I would use both.
I am actually ignorant about the types of markers until now. So can you recommend which would be the best for beginners. And are there any other markers apart from these two. If any than can you suggest them pls. And I really loved your tutorial btw😋
Where did you learn to color like that? Is it something they teach you at designer's school? Its looks awesome, just shows you have a lot of crafting skills. By the way iprefer the copic ;)
Plenty of the Copic markers are bright....they have lots of shades and tints because there is no other way to get light colors than to make the ink in the pen very pale
Do a video of what did you learn at parsons and if you liked it or not . what type of skills did you or didn't you have before school and what did you learn after
Picking music must be one of the hardest parts of editing videos! I'm happy with your normal videos without music, but this was a nice change and shows a different part of your personality. Thanks for your videos, they're a highlight in my week!
I've never used those types of markers. I've always used prismacolor markers for inking things in and drawing with ink. I really enjoy their vibrancy and precise blending. I'm also a fan of their coloured pencils. They're really nice and have enough grit to blend blend blend unlike others that are waxy and stop picking up new pigment. I had one project that I layered 14 different pencil colours on for shading one spot and it was still accepting pigment when I was done.
+Kwandaioha O.o I use Prismacolor pencils too! But I find that their markers dry up faster (?) and don't cover as well as AD. Disagree? I am curious...
Justine Leconte officiel I think it's a style difference. I do a lot a lot of layers of colour and use the overlap to blend. Also sometimes a lighter colour over the tones to ease the transitions. I very very rarely leave anything just the one layer of colour. My first medium I worked in other than normal children's art supplies was oil paints do maybe it's a carry over from that that I like to layer and mix colours more. Even in traditional water colours I rarely use just one colour from the pan even if it's one layer I usually mix it and add gradient with different pigment variation on a fan brush. It was interesting to see your lighter approach to colouring things in.
I think you just need some of the darker more vivid copic colors because it looks like you have the lighter values in the color ranges but each range has much more saturated evolutions.
Truly appreciate this video as I have so many questions about Chartpak which aren't as easily accessible in stores where I live so I couldn't try them out for myself. I use Prismacolor for my card making. I couldn't justify Copic's price being twice that of Prismacolor. Have you tried Prismacolors? How do you think they compare to Chartpak or Copic? My Prismacolors seem to get dried out quicker than my liking even if I have never opened it. Do Chartpak have a longer shelf life? Also do Chartpak have colorless blender markers like Copic & Prismacolor or must you do the back & forth method you showed in this video? Again, fabulous video & beautiful coloring techniques. Thank you Justine!
+MICHELLE ROSS Prismacolor dries faster, in my opinion too. My ADs last forever! The brand offers a blender that works great, imo. An alternative to the regular (expensive) Copics is the Copic Ciao series - the one I tried today. Links in the description 😊
Hi Justine! This question is kind of off topic but I am taking in my beige leather boots to get a sole put in. Are there rules as to what color the sole should be? I always choose black. Should I match the sole to the color of the shoe???
Hello Justine! Your video is as amazing as always, but I'm writing this comment because I love (love love!) the background in this one! Your face looks so fresh and beautiful in front of it... And great work, as usual! Greetings from Poland! :*
Hey, love your videos! I was watching your older videos, especially the one about what to wear if you were pregnant or got older etc. What I would LOVE to know is what to wear when you ARE pregnant and want to look stylish without spendind a lot of money on new wardrobe (obviusly, you would need to buy some...)? Thanks
Can you use both types of markers on the same sketch to get the best results from both? I just found your channel and I am truly enjoying the verity of topics. I think of French fashion and Italian fashion as the benchmark of chic. So, why did you decide on New York for fashion school? Which school did you go to? I live in the states and I am a freelance makeup artist.

I have no reason to watch this, like I work in a lab and haven't got a single artistic bone in my body but Justine makes everything interesting lol

Super tutorial Justine. You have a wonderful gift
I like this backdrop! It pops your eyes!!! 👍🏻
Please do more of these! It was so satisfying to watch 😍😍
enjoyed watching your creative process of adding color.
thank you ,especially for explaining what is happenning,it always clears and simplifies things. :)
Thank you. I always wanted to see a video using different markers.

Great channel, the best I have found on the web till now about style and fashion. Congratulations Justine!
+Adriana Galli thank you 😃🎉💛
This is so lovely. The music is so soothing and ethereal and I'm finding myself absolutely glued to the screen and your technique.
Hi, Justine, thank you for this beautiful and instructive video! I liked the face with Copic better and the body painted with the other pen. I love to paint, so I enjoyed every second of it - but I enjoyed every second of all your previous videos too! Xoxo!

Really beautiful process. Such a wonderful focussed work. It reminds me of the musical shaping and experimentation I used to do when practicing piano.
The background colour is one of my favourite - it is a welcome visual to your video.
You are talented. I like watching your videos, they make me feel calm
+notblondeswede thanks!
Really lovely to watch. Very soothing, even with the narative. Love your videos. Both color jobs turned out beautifully.
I want more of your teachings. I love it.
Thank you.
I love the color choices. They are subtle and beautiful.. I enjoy working with markers, and have not tried these yet. I am familiar with Coptic. Thank you. Very enjoyable.
So talented.....I love watching these videos!
Hi Justin...
Thank you sooo much. Videos are really lovely. I learnt a lot.
Thanks again ☺️
This was a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing your creativity.
Lovely Justine. I think I prefer the coptic. 👍💜
I loved seeing this.

Firstly, i LOVE the music selection, Justine! Really enjoyed watching this aspect of your creative process! I love your videos Justine. You're really inspirational!
So amazing & interesting! ❤️
I don't know why your set of Copics was so dry, because mine are usually pretty juicy when I buy them. Also, you bought a set that'd I say are mostly used in skin tones, it's why they're so light. They're meant to be the lightest tone, and you're meant to build on those.

I think she just got a bad batch of markers! I hope she gives them another try, though. Copics are awesome, and they could really compliment her AD markers!
They're dry compared to the chartpak
wow your videos see a lot better than fashion course i was actually looking forward a proper free home course but could not find one but this is just great i m actually gonna try keep it up
Thanks for all your awesome videos, Justine. I have used Copics for years, and I'd like to share two things: First, you have a dried out set of markers. Copics are very wet when filled. The good news is you can refill your plastic cartridges with ink (you may want to take them back to the store and let them know they're dried out!). Justine, I like the Chartpak for the saturation of color you get. But I do like how you can layer the Copix to get the desired effect too.
I would love more videos like this one 😍 those videos of yours really made me want to start and learn drawing like this. Thank you! ❤️ You’re great 😊
To me, this is so old school. :) Nice to see. We used to use Pantone markers. But they are so expensive and they dried up so quickly! Now I would make the sketch by hand and just scan it and colour it in Photoshop.
+mrsdeWilde old school is great 😊. I don't enjoy the process as much when I do it on computer...
Yes, I appreciate that too. But I used to always mess it up, or run out of ink. I am probably too lazy. ;)
What's nice with Copic is that it's easy to build color.
Early! Thank you Justine ❤ Your channel is one of the most honest, educational, inspiring and really soothing out there. ❤ love from Nagaland
+Pengu Channel thank you!
I absolutely love this type of videos! I always find them so inspiring and right now I feel like creating something cool too :D

Really interesting!
I like the AD Chartpak flow and look. It might be more effort to get the contrast but I work with watercolor so I I understand about layering the applications. It might take some getting used to to spreading though.

How interesting! I love discovering the process of designing with you!

Loved the Copic side :-)
Very informative. You are so talented. Thank you for sharing 😊

Very nice choice of music this week, Justine! It's very chill and matches the tone of a drawing tutorial very well. Who is the artist?
+rosanayr it's royalty-free music from Epidemic Sound. 4 different tracks. Choosing them took forever 😅

When I learned to draw fashion figures, I always used both brands because their colors don’t match up haha. But I always used copic for shadowing 👍
i think the best result can be achieved with both brands. lay in the vibrancy with ad chart & at detail/contrast with copic.
I think you just need some of the darker more vivid copic colors because it looks like you have the lighter values in the color ranges but each range has much more saturated evolutions.
It would be great to have that lavender top... Just saying^^
You have very pretty, lovely hands.
Hi Justine! This question is kind of off topic but I am taking in my beige leather boots to get a sole put in. Are there rules as to what color the sole should be? I always choose black. Should I match the sole to the color of the shoe???
+Janice S it is more discrete if you match it 😊
Hello Justine! Your video is as amazing as always, but I'm writing this comment because I love (love love!) the background in this one! Your face looks so fresh and beautiful in front of it... And great work, as usual! Greetings from Poland! :*
+Kasia Dostatni thanks & hi from Berlin to Poland 🤗
Hey, love your videos! I was watching your older videos, especially the one about what to wear if you were pregnant or got older etc. What I would LOVE to know is what to wear when you ARE pregnant and want to look stylish without spendind a lot of money on new wardrobe (obviusly, you would need to buy some...)?
Thanks
So wich ones do you recommend and/or prefer more?
Can you use both types of markers on the same sketch to get the best results from both? I just found your channel and I am truly enjoying the verity of topics. I think of French fashion and Italian fashion as the benchmark of chic. So, why did you decide on New York for fashion school? Which school did you go to? I live in the states and I am a freelance makeup artist.
+Jan Franklin I went to Parsons, NYC. Good combination of theory and execution of ideas.
Oh, was Mr. Tim Gun there? I have such a crush on him, I could totally stalk him. Except he is gay and I am married.
