- You have built a moodboard. You have sketches of your looks. Now what?... This tutorial presents how I pick my colors when I create a color palette for fashion.
Instead of using a color wheel, instead I am using a Color Aid, which is a set of 314 color swatches which you can find online. It is a tool I really recommend if you want to practice color theory.
Enjoy, subscribe like, share to help this channel grow & let me know which video you want next week!
Take care,
Justine.

Genius. Art school did not teach me as much about color as you have! I love the proportions! !
+Karen Hekman glad it helps 😁
I have been to a design school but never got through this tip ! Its awsome :)
I stumbled onto your channel. And now I can't stop watching your videos.
Very informative and enjoyable.
I love this topic. I have been fascinated by it since I was a little girl with a box if crayons. I love color, color theory and playing with color (I crochet). I would love to see more posts on color
This is so excellent. I am an interior designer and I can apply these principles to any room for a client. Thank you so much😘
I’ve read a lot about color and completed quite a few exercises, however your video explained the why behind color combinations but still kept it manageable. Most color experts go way too much into the theory and its easy to get confused and frustrated so thank you!
Amazing, this is crazing how easy it is to see exactly what you're talking about.
You have just such a simple, clear and logical way to explain things. And you seem so calm and simple as person, J even watch your videos with subjects that do not interest me so much! n_n
And surprisingly I find myself always learning something new!
Your are one of the few people I have seen on RUclips who's channel is really instructive and you are definitely very good at what you are doing.
You are just amazing at teaching Justine. And I see that you really love to play with colors, because you`re shining!
Thank you for an amazing and a professional teaching. Monika
Even though I haven't even started fashion school yet, I already have the colour palette of ym first collection in mind - stone/taupe/tan/whatever (you know what I mean: a light browngrey colour), teal, chocolate brown, beige, charcoal, silver and true red. Stone, true red and teal are, becuase they're nor too warm, cool, bright, deep or light universally flattering colours, which will look nice on more less everyone. They're not too out-there but not boring. Chocolate brown is a very classy yet relaxed, more conservative colour that looks amazing on deeper coloured and warm-coloured people, and nowadays an annoyingly difficult colour to find. Time to bring it back! Beige looks very nice on lighter-coloured people with all kinds of undertones but the most cool. Charcoal and silver are the cool gal's nice neutrals, which still combine nicely with the warmer neutrals for a very simple, relaxed look.
Gitte Van de velde yes, brown is difficult to find these days!!
You r so brave and confident! You tell others how to become fashion designers! Much love!
I really liked the way you explain !! very professional !! organized and easy to understand !!
Lease upload more videos like this.its fascinating how you display the picture and then pin the colors from them using different proportions. It's fun
This is Gold! Very practical and clear!
I really liked the setting in this video! It works so much better and looks so much more profesional than the grey background you use in most of your videos.
I'm coming to this very late but would like to say how incredibly useful it is. Thank you.
One of my favourite topic the colour pallet fascinating.
Watching your
videos gives life💚😍😀😘
Justine, thank you so much for all your videos. I learn so much from them! This specific video is fantastic. I design ceramic jewelry and have just ordered a Color Aid box for me - it will be so helpful to decide and combine the colors harmoniously. Looking forward to your next videos! un abrazo desde Barcelona!
As a late arrival if you have done all the videos on color you want - I love the whole idea of relative color a la Albers when it comes to clothing thoughts>
this was very good . I love the way you visually explained how to manipulate colors to fit into any class of fashion. This is very helpful with my knitting projects. I am always looking to add my own style into patterns that I follow. Thank you
Very effective teaching strategy!
OMG Im addicted to this station Justine!!! I ran into you 3 days ago when looking for classic womens styles.
Just love your color videos... pls do more of them....
Absolutely fascinating.
This is an amazing tutorial!
+mbear1 thank you 😃
Thank you! Your videos are VERY helpful!❤️
HI Justina and thanks aloooot for your high quality and effective contents.
And please ... please ....please....make more detailed and complete videos about topic "colors theory" because i believe personally, one who has learned colors perfectly, has gone over 50 percent of the fashion's road.I hope you to make a full series of this subject, because even many people who have academic backgrouds ,have not been teached properly in design schools and universities.
please accept my deep and pure respects, gratefulness and love for what you are doing.
I find all colour topics extremely interesting. I used the colour grab app you suggested in a previous video, as well but I'm still struggling with my undertone. it would be very nice if you could explain the app and also give us examples with pictures about warm, cool undertone, what works for them and what doesn't. For example why blonde hair looks great on someone but looks horrible on someone alse. Thank you for your time. Lovely, genuine smile you have 😘
H MARIA me too, I tried the app but couldn't figure out how to use it correctly so I gave up on it. Mine said light faded orange but I have no idea what to do with that info?? A tutorial on the app would be amazing!!
Depth is also an important factor. When someone who is naturally deep (dark hair and eyes) dies their hair light blond, it quickly looks harsh and unnatural because it's the total opposite of their natural colourign and throws things off balance. And there's also something like chroma - the brightness. Someone who has very soft muddy eyes and kidn of neutral-ish beigey skin won't look good in a bright, even, dyed golden or platinum blonde. It's too bright and unnatural (unless they have naturally blonde hair), as these people's hair is often more blended, appearing many different colours. If you're deep or soft you'd want to just slightly soften your look, with a very well done gradient-like ombre. And of course, just the underton ;) if you're natural warm (like auburn hair) a light blonde will look unnatural, too. The only people who can succesfully go blond and preferable a very natural, blended blonde with still some darker streaks (just some blonde highlights maybe?) are those who were blonde once in their life.

Love your videos! I still need help in defining what colors are the best for the person just by looking at the person! (Seasons don't usually work!). I work in a boutique store and have rather demanding and knowledgeable customers. Withing minutes I have to consult them in the best way possible on style and color! Please, help! I am watching your videos every day after work and trying to apply what I learned right away! Thank you, you are a treasure on RUclips!
I'm learning soooooo much, thank you ❣️❣️❣️
This is a really great video, i learned something so thank you. For me the issue is maybe more finding the right pieces to fit together. i feel I would need to be constantly shopping or at the mall to find the right color that match everything else. I guess that's why people would hire someone like you :)
waaww how i like your way to explain :) love you
please more videos about color and about all details...try to do more than 1 video a week :) i watch you every day more than 2 hours ...
+Maro Mus oh... Then you are going to run out of Justine videos very soon 😅 I can't do more than one per week at the moment but maybe in a few months... We'll see! Thank you for all the positive feedback 😊
Oooooooohhhh! This is one of my favorites of your videos I've seen so far! I just wanted to pull out color cards and play.
+SallieFretMet hahaha thanks!
I'm learning so much from you about color and the creative process! You are absolutely wonderful! Please do more on both topics. Thank you!! Do you find inspiration for color combinations from different countries or locations? That could be a video topic. Again, many thanks for your work and for generously sharing your ideas!!!
Justine, I really enjoy these kinds of videos and I'd love to see more about color - as well as a video/videos on the right colors to wear according to one's skin tone. Thanks for another fantastic video .xx, Sue
+Susan Schafer 😘

Excellent!!!
Iove your makeup here!
love love LOVED this video!!!
Hi! I love all of your videos, however, this one has been my favourite - I may be able to use this for my artwork and canvasses too! Thankyou so much :)
Thanks for all your helpful information! Would you also address the Pantone Color Trends, and how much or little designers should consider those trends when creating a portfolio?
Yes I agree!!
Well this is just my personal opinions. But trends play a hugeee role in fashion and a designer should always consider it when creating a portfolio. But trends come and go so it is up to the designer actually if the designer finds the trend beautiful and interesting they should include it if they dont then no. But i would recommend adding at the very least 2 trend elements nor one that basically represent all the trends in a portfolio so that it will be more capturing
thank you for this excellent information
this is GOLD! tnx for sharing.

+Rossella Leonardi 😁
:D
more about colors please!
Wow, I'm learning a lot here. :) Could you do a video more in detail about finding the dominant color in skintone and how to dress them? I watched your video on it but I am having difficulty in finding colors that suit my skin. When I downloaded an app to analize my skin it have me a dark vanilla - that's white tending for very slight beige / very light cold brown. Also, if you could do a video on how to dress for cold skintone with cold shades of warm colors and vice versa?
Have been binge watching your channel :), I wonder if you have a video with advice for petite hourglass figures who are curly Redheads :) - what are the best colors to wear? and how to mix and match them within a capsule wardrobe? Greatly appreciate all your advice, your videos are wonderful!

+Justine Leconte officiel 😁😁currently i m takinh fashion design in bachelor, sometimes i might get lost thru the process of choosing my moodboard and inspiration. now at least i know how to choose the color palette correctly👍
Hey Justine!
I am currently working on a moodboard for my fashion collection ( to apply for university). Working on this, I was wondering if the colors in the moodboard have to be the all the colors in a fashion collection? For example, I have 5 colors untill now but I am thinking to design a yellow belt. If its a ' small detail' like this, do I have to include yellow into the moodboard colors? And also if its the same color but a different shade do I have to put that on the colors in the moodboard? I hope I explained myself well :o
Thank you for your answer!
thanks its realy help ful. can u make more video on colors?
Bonjour. Thanks for understandable lesson! I've got Amiga cd32 computer with ugly 90's graphite coloured case. It darkens my mind and catches all dust in a room. Will orange+light and dark grey make it little more elegant? I like my computer even when it's 20years old, but don't want to make it look like colourfull candy.
Regards
Marek

Justine, before finding your channel I would view youtube how to videos once a week. My Favorite was How to GYST. Once I found you, I have been watching your videos a few times a day. BTW Graffiti is pronounced grafee' tee instead of gra' feetee
Is dark colours compared as warm colour example royal blue ?
I think I'm gaining more brain cells every time I watch one of your videos.

+rimeque OK... Keep posted ;-)
Hi Justine, With a typical capture of something like 172, 152, 148, (cool as red is the highest value) are they close enough to be considered neutral? I have green hazel eyes, dark ash blonde hair, and I tan easily, both gold a silver look good on me.
