I've mentioned this before on a ton of other reactors channels. The "Breafast in America" tour by Supertramp is still my #3 top concert out of the 1041 concerts I've attended since 1973. They sounded just like the studio versions of their songs, just perfect. Such an underrated band.
We have all been conditioned and moulded by society to think a certain way and be a certain way. I think this song makes you question societies rules and regulations and makes you ask the question 'who is the real me?' If I hadn't conformed to societies rules, what would my true nature be?
The problem is that schools teach only knowledge (essentially facts to just about pass an exam) rather than teaching people critical thinking and preparing children for life.
It makes me think about how quickly the entire world would fall apart, with everybody dying from starvation or exposure, if people followed a desire to remain children for their entire lives.
One of my all-time favorites! Check out the whole ‘Breakfast In America’ album. It’s one of those records you can listen to from beginning to end, then flip it over and listen to it again.
It's so funny that I've heard this song my whole life and never cared for it or listened to the lyrics. With this reaction, I have found an appreciation to this song that I never had before. That's what I love about reaction channels, you hear an old song decades later and enjoy it through fresh ears.
Great song. Supertramp had a unique sound. No one quite had the same voice. "Crime Of The Century" is their best album imo. Check that one out sometime. Simple message in this song to me. Dont give up your passion and what uniquely makes you and who YOU are. Education is important, but dont just think materialistically. Going to school to gain acceptance and a great paying job. But do what truly moves your soul.
Crime of the Century, the best no doubt, but they had a few really strong albums. I just listened to the full COTC album on a drive up to Maine last weekend.
This group was my childhood. I was so fanatical that at one point I could name every track, in order, on every album they put out between '74 - '82. And this is still one of their best! 👍🏽
Each of us encounters that point in our lives when we see the “world” for what it is……It’s in this moment that we decide to “Toe the line”, or “Cast aside supposed obligations”, and chart a course for ourselves. Because we’re “finite”, we know that neither venture is the rightful answer, but we choose our fate and accept it.
The Logical Song is one of my favorites songs in life. It is perfect, deep lyrics, great voice, rhytm and progressive...a complete memorable song. Many thanks for reacting! Regards from Chile!!
Vloody Well Right by Supertramp also has the same theme and is very Jazzy. "So you think your schoolings phony, well it's hard not to agree. You say it all depends on mo ey and who is in your family tree"...
That was one of those "must have" records in the -70´s. I bought, of nostalgic reasons Supertramp the very best . With sons like School, Dreamer, Crime of the century and Logical song on. They truly did some great songs
Ha. I used to fish up in Alaska on a factory trawler processing Surimi. I had a walkman and a Supertramp "Breakfast in America" tape that I would listen to ALL SHIFT or until I had an opportunity to change the tape. The newer walkmans had a flip and repeat, so it would play one side of the tape, then automatically switch to the other side. It would play over and over and over. So watching this reaction made me remember back to early 90s. Supertramp was with me through those hard years. Thanks Supertramp and thanks for playing this one.
I discovered supertramp when my older sisters boy friend was a fan of them and became hooked on them from the age of 13 and still love playing their music to this day went to see Rodger hodgson live in Glasgow about 6 years ago and was absolutely fantastic.
When I was younger in grade school, I thought they were singing about going to a mental ward. Now I know he's singing about school, but I have come to the conclusion they might be the same place at times. Depending on the person and the treatment he or she gets during thier time incarcerated at school...
It’s so true. I tried so hard to make it in this world. Trying to do everything just the way society dictated. There was just one problem. I didn’t like the person I was pretending to be. This song always makes me think of all those wasted years trying to fit a mould I wasn’t meant to fit. The moment I decided to hell with it, I’m going to do things my way, my life made sense to me again. It didn’t gain me sudden riches or perfect life but I knew who I was and I could sleep at night knowing succeed or fail, I did it my way and I was ok with that
Supertramp is one of my all time favorite bands, great vocals, instruments and just an unique sound. Their album from 1979 BREAKFAST IN AMERICA was a huge seller. Some other songs by SUPERTRAMP worth listening to are TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME, SCHOOL, GOODBYE STRANGER and BLOODY WELL RIGHT.
7:54 The only thing music tells me now vs then, is the fact that back then artists and producers cared about the music, now they only care about making it(artists, if I can call them that!) producers for sure they collect; because music and nowadays artists are just the same as fast food in quality.
Great song, and i agree with you, man. They make you learn the most strange and stupid things at school. I hated school, had a lot of fun, but hated the learning. I've been working with my hands my whole life, and not sorry about it. Had a verry good and, most of all, a fun life. There is no excuse for what they teach you, however. When you grow up, you think for yourself, and do the best you can. Thanks for this one and 👊🌷😁❤from Holland
Hi Recklezz, that was me who said that, many thanks for the mention! Yes, I mean I enjoy lots of reaction channels, but they are often cluelezz about the songs they listen to. I don't know if it helps to know that Supertramp were an English rock group or not, but I think knowledge is good and it adds to the experience, so long as you're not spoiled in some way. As to Supertramp they are great and have loads of good songs. I went to see Roger Hodgson (the lead singer in this one) at the Royal Albert Hall in London a few years ago and he put on a great show, all the Supertramp hits. He did one song I'd never heard before, and I suggest you give this one a listen as no ever does it: 'Hide In Your Shell'. Plus, there's s Supertramp song that got everyone up and singing along, and that's 'It's Raining Again'. Kind of fitting for the UK, really! Late Edit: Yes, it's about educating the freedom out of someone and making them fit the idea of 'normality'. It's Raining Again has a killer sax as well, if that's an incentive!
OMG guys. I'm 45. I think this dropped in 1979. But I heard it everywhere until 1999. And now in 2022 I can actually appreciate it. It is a really good song! 👍 Enjoy.
I Loved This Bands Music Growing Up. So Many Great Songs. Crime of the century, school, bloody well right, give a little bit the list could go on, Great Review.
Great album with some very deep, almost metaphysical lyrics. Still holds up today in every way. Melodic and harmonic, but still heavy musically. Great band!
I love your reactions always. SuperTramp is one of my favorite bands ever. My dad introduced me to this band. You have no idea how hard this band hit me growing up. And still hit's me to this day.
So Supertramp had two lead singer/songwriters, one from an affluent upbringing, the other not. The one singing, Hodgson, is on record as saying he had a very happy childhood, always smiling, full of innocence, protected from the financial difficulties most families face. He went to a private school, on leaving, he saw the world for what it is. This song is about that transition. Supertramp had an astonishing start and very nearly didn't make it. They had one last chance and it was the album, Crime of the Century that was their breakthrough. The next to albums were not as well received, but it was the one that this track came from that sent them through the stratosphere - Breakfast in America (it was received extremely well the US too). At their peak, they wrote amazing lyrics set to great tunes, all mastered to perfection. Awesome musician's, this album is regarded as one of the most important rock/progressive rock albums of all-time, and rightly so. They are one of the greatest UK exports, and I for one feel that my appreciation of music was shaped, in part, by their love for music. Sadly, groups like this do not exist anymore, perhaps they never will. So listen to their songs, marvel at their talent and remember; good music never ages, it matures like a good wine and just gets better. To bring prog rock up to date, can I recommend you listen to more Radiohead?
Love Supertramp and great song 🎵 thanks for all your hard work staying up late at night to reacting to new and different songs. I know I appreciate it 😌 🙏 💯 ✌❤🇨🇦
Good job, y'all. Old songs like this only FEEL more relevant because y'all are young still and you can't quite believe that your parents were young once, too. Remember: There's nothing new under the sun. Plus, the saxophone always hits.
the message is that society wants to make you conform to their idea of who you should be. they do it through education and the media. they want loyal, patriotic, unquestioning workers and soldiers.
For a prophetic song from the 60's try 'Eve of Destruction' by Barry Maguire. Banned by the BBC for being too relevant to the Cold War,then taking place, it still has the same relevance today.
Please find and watch the LIVE versions of all of Supertramp's songs. They are amazing to watch! Look for live in Paris 1979. Then check out "Child of Vision" , "Another Man's woman" and "School" all live.
How they (school and society) tries to squash the divinity and the creativity out of you and replace it with the drudgery, and monotony of life. Like they want us to come off of an assembly line.
I played this to death on my car cassette and I still have my vinyl record of "Breakfast in America". Loved that album It's classic rock now. It was pop when it came out. Nothin' wrong with that. Ya gotta love some NASTY sax😎
BEST CONCERT EVER! Victoria BC, Canada back in the 80s. We were a total of *Only Twelve People* at their arena concert that had 10,000 seats. Thought we were about to see Ted Nugget but marquee displayed an unknown band call SUPERTRAMP. Checked them out anyways and *What Professionals*. Performed like was a sold out show, then encored their entire unreleased *Breakfast in America* album.
Good stuff guys, good job, I bought that album in 1979 , I was 19 in the Army and stationed in Korea. My friends and I listen to this album over and over for a year. It was the best year of my life. My favorite song was Take the long way home. It was a long way home. Lol.
I like hearing both of your points of view on these songs. Great to hear Crys speaking more as you were a little quiet when I first started watching you guys. Keep up the great work guys!
I know this is late to post but, this song is about how we are taught to conform to society. If someone asked "who is Recklezz?" The programmed response would be "a RUclipsr who does music reactions". I dare you to answer WHO ARE YOU? Are we what we do?
Still on my Playlist today...great reaction they're low-key awesome ya'll...put their music on and just flow thru my housecleaning...feel good flow....and yes if I were really a young starter I could be your parent...lol
I agree with you, it is all about conformity in how they feel you should feel, think and act within society. You kind of know your place as you get older, especially in times like these...
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 4 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
I got this album for sixteenth birthday. It was huge. I still dig em. Also in Europe I think it's fairly common to be sent away to school at a pretty young age. I know for sure in Sweden it is common.
One of the best albums of all time, Breakfast in America. Sold close to 20 million albums when released in 1979
hands down!
Yes! I have loved the entire album since it came out!
I much prefer Crime Of The Century
was it really '79? Damn i feel old lol
Next you would really like “Take the Long Way Home”. Great harmonica in that one.
I've mentioned this before on a ton of other reactors channels.
The "Breafast in America" tour by Supertramp is still my #3 top concert out of the 1041 concerts I've attended since 1973.
They sounded just like the studio versions of their songs, just perfect.
Such an underrated band.

psychedelics can help people break out of the matrix mentality imo

They have many hits
One of my all-time favorites!
Check out the whole ‘Breakfast In America’ album. It’s one of those records you can listen to from beginning to end, then flip it over and listen to it again.
'Flip it over'... still love a turntable.
fabulous song
That sax was sweeeeet. Thanks for sharing!
On a roll lately Collins, Supertramp , Stewart and Queen#🔥🎸✌🏿
It's so funny that I've heard this song my whole life and never cared for it or listened to the lyrics. With this reaction, I have found an appreciation to this song that I never had before. That's what I love about reaction channels, you hear an old song decades later and enjoy it through fresh ears.
School and Bloody Well Right are 2 more great Supertramp songs 🎶
Great song. Supertramp had a unique sound. No one quite had the same voice. "Crime Of The Century" is their best album imo. Check that one out sometime.
Simple message in this song to me. Dont give up your passion and what uniquely makes you and who YOU are.

Crime of the Century, the best no doubt, but they had a few really strong albums. I just listened to the full COTC album on a drive up to Maine last weekend.
I agree that Crime is their best then I liked Crisis What Crisis 2nd
@ John Bandy
Who the fuck are you to tell me how I should think? My thinking does include materialistic thoughts and desires. 😈
Now what John?
LOVE THIS SONG! I had the Cassette Tape in the early 90's as a kid, been singing along since. ROCK AND ROLL!
Supertramp is so great! Amazing albums
This group was my childhood. I was so fanatical that at one point I could name every track, in order, on every album they put out between '74 - '82. And this is still one of their best! 👍🏽

I have ALWAYS loved Super Tramp.........always.
Super Tramp was another great concert, this band has alot of great songs. 👍 Thanks for the memories.
The Logical Song is one of my favorites songs in life. It is perfect, deep lyrics, great voice, rhytm and progressive...a complete memorable song.
Many thanks for reacting!
Regards from Chile!!
Yeah this is a great one...Try "Take the Long Way Home" by this band. Have a great day and thanks.
My favorite thing about this song is that its so creative and feels like its not inspired by anybody. REAL unique!
Good point, very true!
I listen to good music from a variety of Genres and Supertramp is one of my favorite bands.
Vloody Well Right by Supertramp also has the same theme and is very Jazzy.
"So you think your schoolings phony, well it's hard not to agree. You say it all depends on mo ey and who is in your family tree"...
One, two, three, five!
Great song. Great musicians in that band. Look up the band!
That’s how you can tell a timeless song. It always stays relevant. KILLER track by those London lads.
One of my favorites, saw them in the late 70s, greatest of days
Pure Quality right there. Can't Go Wrong With Supertramp.
That was one of those "must have" records in the -70´s. I bought, of nostalgic reasons Supertramp the very best . With sons like School, Dreamer, Crime of the century and Logical song on. They truly did some great songs
Love your observations. It is amazing how a lot of songs' from years ago still apply to today's issues. Mad saxophone on this too.
Ha. I used to fish up in Alaska on a factory trawler processing Surimi. I had a walkman and a Supertramp "Breakfast in America" tape that I would listen to ALL SHIFT or until I had an opportunity to change the tape. I love "Goodbye Stranger" from the same album. Such a fantastic song. Also "Ain't Nobody But Me" from an earlier album. Really great music.
You’ve hit on one of my favourite bands of all time. They are amazing musicians with great songs and harmonies. Please do more!
The loss of innocence.
Watch their live of this song performance in Paris - you’ll LOVE IT!!! Especially for the sax….
Great song!
Incredible group. Watch them live.

underrated funky bass groove throughout the song.
One of my fave albums; iconic album..........Breakfast in America..........try Goodbye Stranger...........amazingly produced; just fab.

I saw supertramp about 5yrs ago awesome band , and they sound exactly like the actual studio recording awesome one guy's 👍🎵🎷🎤🥝🇳🇿
Brilliant Album and every band member was a master of their instruments
Proto Rap and jazz over a mechanical rhythm and machine sounds. A really thoughtfully composed song.
One of the best songs of my childhood! Early 70’s, I was 7-8. ❤️

So many great songs and their Supertramp Live in Paris concert dvd / videos is a great watch to see them perform live in 1979

Supertramp has something like a 6-album winning streak of original material that still holds up.
School, Rudy, Take a Little Bit, soooo many excellent songs by Supertramp. Loved your reaction. Hope you will dive a little deeper into Supertramp!
Piezón. De las mejores canciones que escuché. 👍🏻

As a young boy he was sent away to boarding school, this song is about that experience.

Aside from just being a fantastic album. It's also one of the best produced ever. Still sounds crisp to this day!
Good stuff guys, good job, I bought that album in 1979 , I was 19 in the Army and stationed in Korea. My friends and I listen to this album over and over for a year. It was the best year of my life. My favorite song was Take the long way home. It was a long way home. Lol.

Supertramp was huge back in the mid-late 70s. They have a lot of great tunes, you should go check out Dreamer and Goodbye Stranger.
Still on my Playlist today...great reaction they're low-key awesome ya'll...put their music on and just flow thru my housecleaning...feel good flow....and yes if I were really a young starter I could be your parent...lol
Well done guys. Great reaction!! you gotta love a good sax. I still have my Supertramp Breakfast in America album I bought in 1980
I agree with you, it is all about conformity in how they feel you should feel, think and act within society. You kind of know your place as you get older, especially in times like these...

Saw them twice in London. Mesmerizing musicianship.
One of my favorites !

Yeah, it is good to hear a little about the bands that are about to be played.
My man! I love that you are feeling supertramp. I grew up listening to supertramp and got every Damn album.
Great road song !! Listen loud and often
Please, react to Supertramp's "School"...great reaction!
TOP THREE BODIES OF WORK ON THE PLANET....MASTERS OF MIND MUSIC
Had the masters recording of Crime Of The Century. It of course was vinyl and sounded great.
Need to Watch them live , So Good 👌💗✨🙏✨💗✨✌️✨💗✨✌️✨🙏✨💯✨💗✌️
You guys are right this song is amazing
I got this album for sixteenth birthday. It was huge. I still dig em. Also in Europe I think it's fairly common to be sent away to school at a pretty young age. I know for sure in Sweden it is common.
Another great album. The low spark of high-heeled boys.
Well said about relevance in 2022
