Blondie use to do shows at CBGB back in the 70's with the Ramones. Which is odd considering they were the first punk band. Worth checking out if you haven't yet
@@shaundgb7367 Heart of Glass came out in 1978.I was about 7 years old, I remember up till about 1981 and 1982 you would still hear songs trying to sound disco like and even on tv shows you could still hear some disco.
When I was 13 I took violin lessons; the instructor had me practicing with classical music (rightly so), but I asked if I could do popular music as well; he said if I did his assignments; I bought the sheet music for Heart of Glass and we did this song too 😊
Now I’m not saying she doesn’t sound like this. I mean that IS her singing. You just need to know that isn’t her usual singing style. This was definitely Blondie goes disco and they were a bona fide punk band. A punk band that liked to explore and hit a lot of different genres, but the punk roots don’t go away. Please react to Detroit 442. Would love to see your jaw drop.😆
Recently heard I didn't have the nerve to say no. Really liked it. Thought it could be a great song for a remake. Remix it and change a couple things it would be great.
FYI, the mirrored disco balls were around way before disco..they were invented before the 1920s but were really popular during the 1920s at big parties and clubs. They weren't seen much after that until disco music & dancing was popular in the 1970s.
Heart of Glass was from the 1978 album Parallel Lines, but the song was written in 1974 as a slow, reggae number. It was turned into a Euro-disco song in the style of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" by producer Mike Chapman four years later, when he was re-arranging the tune.
The final chorus (3) on this song originally said "Soon turned out, it was a pain in the ass" but for some silly reason all we get to hear now is the edited version that's says "Soong turned out had a heart of glass". I owned the original single version with this on so i remember it..... great reaction guys thanks...they were a great band back then.
There is one version out there on RUclips that still has it as "pain in the ass"...so sad that this version the one dominating the clicks...what's so bad about "pain in the ass" lyric?
They are in Studio 54 the most famous discotheque of the 70s. Also good roller skating rink song. One of my favorite Blondie songs is "Atomic Blonde". That's from their punk side.
This song was released in late 78. That's why it has the disco influence. React to their songs One Way Or Another, Atomic, Touched By Your Presence Dear, The Tide Is High and Call Me please.
Blondie was very influential makes a lot of different kinds of music together and Debbie Harry such a presence. For my money a song called 'Dreaming' is their best Also, believe it or not Miley Cyrus does a killer cover of this
Although a lot of people assumed the video was filmed at Studio 54, Chris Stein says the video wasn't filmed there. People just assumed it was because of a shot of Studio 54 in the video.
Don't know if you realized, but you read the song facts for "Call Me", which came after "Heart of Glass". This was Blondie's breakthrough song. "Call Me" was the theme to the movie American Gigolo
Debbie Harry is A plus!!! and blondie was darn good to!!! Clem Burke was a beast on the drums!!! also the original version had the lyrics "Once i had a love and it was a gas soon turned out to be a pain in the ass"
The 4 Non Blondes song that has 1.4 billion views is probably the one called What's Up, and it's a definite must listen that won't disappoint AT ALL. The song is stellar. It's a 90s song if I remember correctly. I'm surprised you all haven't reacted to it yet, so many other reactors have. I hope you guys do it soon as it's very worthy.
Funny that you noted this was a disco song. Debra Harry (Blondie) and her band actually composed this song about five years prior to its official release and simply called it “The Disco Song” while it was untitled in 1975. They recorded two demos of the song in the 1970’s before the final version was released. I believe both of those demos are available on RUclips. Each one has a very different arrangement. You should check them out.
@AnonymousMashups I was afraid of that 😔 she looked like she was not vibing and I think she noticed with how much he says, "you know what I'm saying?". It's like folks not taking relationship seriously is the new normal.... It's why I'll never have children, I'll never marry too.

Towards the end of the song the last time she says he got a heart of glass ,if you read her lips she said He’s a pain in the ass.they dubbed he got a heart of glass over that for the video
Blondie started out in the NYC punk rock scene, but soon found success in the Disco Pop and New Wave genres - but they always kept a 'punkish' edge. They had a solid #1 with RAPTURE, but I'd also suggest DREAMING, SHAYLA, SUNDAY GIRL, UNION CITY BLUE, X OFFENDER, THE KIDNAPPER, I DIDN'T HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY NO, and a killer rendition of RING OF FIRE in the Meat Loaf movie "Roadie" in 1980.
This came out in 1979. Parallel Lines album. Played the hell out of that record. This song began life as a reggae tune but their producer had them change it.
Debbie Harry is one of the best female vocalists in the history of Rock/Pop music! The richness and clarity of her voice is hard to duplicate, though she can also add a rasp or smokey texture to it when she wants to. Also one of the most intelligent, thoughtful and beautiful singers of the 1970s-1980s. She was buddies with the artists Andy Warhol and H.R. Geiger.

At 6:56 of your video they changed the original line of the song. Instead of " soon turned out I had a heart of glass" It was " soon turned out to be a pain in the ass" Watch her lips and you can see it. Still love the song.
