“Malignant” is the latest creation from “Conjuring” universe architect James Wan (“Aquaman,” “Furious 7”). The film marks director Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller.
In the film, Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
“Malignant” stars Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle,” “The Mummy”), Maddie Hasson (RUclips’s “Impulse,” TV’s “Mr. Mercedes”), George Young (TV’s “Containment”), Michole Briana White (TV’s “Black Mafia Family,” “Dead to Me”), Jacqueline McKenzie (“Palm Beach,” TV’s “Reckoning”), Jake Abel (TV’s “Supernatural,” the “Percy Jackson” films) and Ingrid Bisu (“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “The Nun”).
Wan (“Aquaman,” “Furious 7”) directed from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (“M3GAN,” upcoming “The Nun 2”), story by Wan & Ingrid Bisu and Cooper. The film was produced by Wan and Michael Clear, with Eric McLeod, Judson Scott, Bisu, Peter Luo, Cheng Yang, Mandy Yu and Lei Han serving as executive producers.
Behind the scenes, Wan was joined by his frequent collaborators, director of photography Don Burgess and editor Kirk Morri (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring 2”), production designer Desma Murphy (art director, “Aquaman,” “Furious 7”), as well as costume designer Lisa Norcia (“Insidious: The Last Key”). The music is by Joseph Bishara, who has composed the score for all seven films in “The Conjuring” Universe, among many others.
New Line Cinema Presents, In Association With Starlight Media Inc. and My Entertainment Inc., An Atomic Monster Production, a James Wan Film, “Malignant,” will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 10, 2021 in theaters nationwide and on HBO Max via their Ad-Free plan in 4K UHD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision on supported devices; it will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
“Malignant” has been rated R for strong horror violence and gruesome images, and for language.

I thought I had it figured out after about half an hour but it threw me for a loop, this is how you do a twist properly, make the audience feel like they know what's coming and then pull the rug from under them, except do it correctly and make it feel earned, not like M Night shayalalalalalaman does with most of his crappy films and just have a twist for the sake of it that feels cheap and silly.

This was honestly one of the most unique horror movies I've seen in a long time. It doesn't take itself too seriously. The music is amazing (that recurring song they use throughout the movie is SICK); you don't often see that genre of music in modern horror. It makes the movie seem a little more campy as opposed to a traditional score. But the movie does contain a more traditional movie "score" too which is also really good. I like how the jump scares are kept to a minimum

James Wan has always been a horror director, horror is where he shines the most and in my personal opinion he's only outdone himself with his last couple of horror entries. Saw is obviously a classic that kickstarted his career, Dead Silence was the only major step-down I could think of in his horror filmography and that movie is still decent enough regardless, then came along Insidious which still remains one of my favorite horror films ever and chapter 2 although not quite as good as the first still provided some interesting world building for that franchise, then he made what I think is arguably going to go down as the biggest horror classic of this generation The Conjuring, yes the universe might be a little overdone at this point but the first Conjuring is simply a time capsule of a film I still rewatch it to this day and it feels as fresh as ever and just when you thought he had peaked he somehow managed to outdo himself again with The Conjuring 2 which I would've never imagined in a million years so as mentioned he's been on an upward trajectory as far as his horror films are concerned so I'm holding my breath for this to continue that, can't wait for september!!

I really hope the creepy dark figure we keep seeing is an _actual_ monster & doesn't, in the end for a well worn twist, turn out to be just the 'dark side' persona of the Annabelle Wallis character, in a 'Babadook' or 'Jekyll & Hyde' kind of way.

people who expected this to be some ordinary house haunting horror movie will hate it but let me tell you, I would put this on the same standard as the classic slasher killer movies. Honestly, I won't mind even if they make ten sequels to this.

I like this! It's not a basic horror movie that's like "oh here look innocent people, let me introduce a ghost/spirit/monster you have to run from!" It has more of a story, and it's a pretty cool one too :)

Yea, although I've seen "Lights Out" yesterday and I liked it, it looks like one of 30 different movies I've seen already
      >There's a spooky ghost that kills people
      >There's criminal drama
      >Main characters discovers history behind the ghost
      >They help / defeat the ghost
This movie doesn't have a ghost in it, the director chose different paranormal elements and made them more interesting and I think it does fit

James wan couldn't direct conjuring 3 but decides to direct this

Conjuring 3 and Malignant had almost the same production time. Obviously Wan couldn't direct both movies at the same time plus he had to prepare himself for Aquaman 2. He's a busy guy, so he had to passed The Conjuring 3 to someone else. He didn't direct Conjuring 3 due to schedule conflict he had with other projects including this

Yea He's directing Aquaman 2 right now so it's surprising that he got a opportunity to direct this
