The Green antifreeze is a good sign that the coolant does not have DCA ( Diesel Coolant Additive ) or SCA (Sodium CoolANT Additive) which is need to combat cavitation and corrosion of the wet cylinder sleeves and or orings. Most green coolant does not include DCA or SCA additives but red, pink or yellowish coolant usually does.. Usually truck shops or some fleet supply stores offer heavy duty diesel coolant . Look for with DCA or with SCA on the label or use the New Extended Life Nitrite Free coolant which is usually yellow in color.. Faithfully changing the coolant filter is also acceptable using green antifreeze but in a tractor like this 1066 the coolant filter was most likely maintained as well as the rest of the tractor.
I am very happy to have come across this channel. It is great to follow along it really shows your passion and knowledge of IH. I grew up in 1973 966 the smell of hot Hy-Tran and the whining of the bull gears takes me to a good place. A suggestion though for the channel: -we all swear, but it doesn’t sound great on RUclips.
I think the stamping marks on that ta you took out would tell when it was rebuilt. I could show it to the guy that did it. Prolly on the outside of clutch pack carrier housings if i remember right. I've never had to replace that style of rebuilt Ta. Have put in several. My personal 1086 has over 10,000 hrs on that style Rebuilt Ta. Jus found your channel. Have to watch your videos. Jus skimmed thru this one for now 👍
Love it. Just like we have to work in our shop. I will say we did finally buy a TA handler and rear stand from charlies repair. A bit pricey and yet another thing to walk around when not in use however makes your life soooo much easier
I'm betting the TA handler you have is fantastic. We have one here but I think it takes to long to set up and stuff. I just started using the Gantry in the first video I did, so I'm getting used to it, but I think I like it better in general.
Long video but well worth the watch. You make it seem easy which I know it is not. A 1066 Black Stripe is one of the best. Would like to know why not green anti-freeze and what to use instead. Thanks for the videos.
Green antifreeze will damage the o rings on the sleeves over time and let antifreeze into the oil pan. It's not a problem if the coolant filter is changed periodically. The coolant filter has a dca additive in them. I'd suggest any dca or sca antifreeze.
Good job on the videos. I have a 1066 that needs to have the TA replaced. I just finished replacing the TA in a 1586. I thought on the 66 series tractors that the cab needed to be removed, I see in your video that you were able to do this without taking the cab off. Do you have any suggestions to removing the speed transmission without taking the cab off. I gave the deluxe style cab on mine. I’m glad I came across your videos.

Clean up work is what we commonly refer to as "skirt work". My girlfriend truly appreciates the phrase.....truly.

@@IHdelight Ok thanks. I do change the coolant filter on mu 966. As a matter of fact, I have one now to put on. Makes me feel a little better.
I'd say you did lots of them they way you took it apart lots of experience doing that
what a treat
Nice work

eh, the only suggestion i can give is to just start taking things apart and assess what you can get away with.
Just did a IPTO shaft on my 1466, the seal I put in had to be bottomed out in order to be .68”. So maybe the new shafts are updated??
Not to sure on that one.
Good sh**!
Looks like you could fix a IH in your sleep looks easy for you
That'd be some recall work for sure...
does that apply to all wet sleeve engines?
It applies to all IH wet sleeve engines.
What kind of antifreeze do you run
Any kind of DCA or SCA antifreeze. It'll say on the jug. Its usually red, purple or yellow in color.
Can you beat little harder and maybe you can break the camera. 😊😊😅😅
Probably can.
