I had the great pleasure to befriend Yoko and her husband Tetsutaro Shimizu back in 1974-75 while studying in Monaco with Marika Besobrasova. Nureyev was a regular visitor too. Amazing memories!
I was so privileged 2 have yoko ended as my teacher in Tokyo. She was a young little thing when she was teaching then when she won gold in ballet competition tiger with ferbanfo Simone’s her international career took off then she went to royal academy 4 a couple of years as an intern where she met Margo then her then partner rudolf. When she came to perform before the late queen for her silver jubilee I went to see her in the dressing room and she had not changed at all she was still eating once a week living on millions of supplements
What ARE you talking about? Watch Rojo & McRae do the same PDD. Rudy let's his arms flop all over while he gets ready for the next movement, the next step! Watch what he doesn't do....they should be dancing every second. He looks just sloppy, he is not paying attention to either his arms or his feet. He's just running across the stage to get in position to catch her or lift her. He quits dancing. Watch a number of couples today.
We use to call that dancing up not out. They had one camera and you could only move in that space one chase and you at the other stage wing. Still he carries all his magic with him. Nijinsky Nureyev no others like them🧡🧡🧡🧡
Michele there is a difference in being a dancer and being the dance itself. Jumping and twirling are tricks of the trade that amaze the audience. I respect Barini
Is this program for the 1983 tour in USA ? Noureev was close to his 45th birthday so the quality of dancing is amazing even if he seems to find the scene too small (his footwork is messy sometimes). To be honest, he was a better Solor than Basilio. Baryshnikov was the better ever (with Gelsey Kirkland who was breathtaking too).
No. It's some years before I think. His late shows were so sadly awful... He was ill and no more able to dance with such technique. But the charisma and dedication were always there.
Rudy and Yoko were great dancers but there was no real chemistry between them. Rudy seemed upset during this performance, maybe because of the orchestra... Thank you for uploading
She was a sensation in her day too, all 4'll" of her. No electricity between them. Tepid applause. I think he just willed his way thru his parts. What IS wrong w/ the recording of the applause? And the fan is a prop, miss; use it to be seductive. OMG. Very sorry
Thanks for this unpublished video of Rudy! Were already the years of this decadence physical and tecnycal unifortunately, the first years '80, isn't it?
The tempo for his variation is too fast. The orchestra begins before his starting pose! The increase in tempo for the last diagonal is suicidal. And again in the coda, he has no time to prepare for the grande pirouettes. Myself a dancer, I know this leads to possible disaster. If I were Rudi - heads would be rolling.
nicematisse - Ridiculously fast for that last diagonal! Somehow he managed to get all of it in with a perfect landing......he does look rather pissed off at the end of the pas....as he should have been.
@nicematisse Gurl please...lol 👏In this performance, as wonderful as it was, Nureyev had something else going on. Power. If you're familiar with his work, it's obvious. And no matter how temperamental the artist might be, heads don't roll that fast. I've witnessed a theatre tantrum. And Rudolph Nureyev was not trying to make heads roll. He was the one to watch. Lol😋 . Quite a few "stars" have thrown tantrums and found themselves thrown right out of a contract. Dancing on that level is a hard earned, demanding, personally selfish, and magical, amazing gift for sure. So trust me, you already know they're following him. He dictates the tempo. It's not a good look to try and upstage Rudolph Nureyev. And America was experiencing on live tv for one of the first times that they have Nureyev -- from the USSR. During the Cold War. This is American history, and what that meant: A National diplomacy gone mad, and loving every minute of it. Besides, to dance with Morishita must have been delicious too. They literally compliment each other.
Certainly, there are moments of brilliance here, but Nureyev's solos are not the best I've seen, some sloppy footwork. Angel Corella, Barishnikov, Ivan Vasiliev and Carlos Acosta are far better in this pas de deux, as is the young Roberto Bolle.
Guess what? This wasn’t anywhere near Nureyev at his best or in his prime. He was a genius. Technicality isn’t everything. Also as he got older his lack of early training took a huge toll on his body - especially his feet. His genius went far beyond the steps and certainly Barishnikov cannot be mentioned in the same breath. Great performers aren’t necessarily artists with a genuine indescribable genius flowing through their veins. This is Nureyev at his worst. Nureyev was a man of immense emotion and he left every bit of it on the stage.
Moreover! Nureyev knew his best days as a dancer were behind him but it was as essential to him as breathing ... later he channeled his inner vision as a director of the Paris Opera ballet developing great stars like a Sylvie Guillaume, and others. He staged and rechoreographed some of the greatest Russian ballets to bring them back to life and to give the male parts more substance. He trail blazed the way for men to have far more significance on the stage than they had. Also, when he was really too old and debilitated he conducted. Oh... let’s not forget he also breathed life into one of the greatest ballerinas of all time who was on the cusp of retiring. We wouldn’t still be talking about Fonteyn if it wasn’t for Nureyev. He was also an incredibly generous partner. A brilliant, unselfish partner. And comparing technique from that era to now is foolish. All endeavors that have physical component change and move forward as time goes on. People grow bigger and stronger. But it doesn’t mean they actually have more to express. And, as I said, do not underestimate the damage Rudy suffered from not beginning training until he was at least 12 years old or older. And male dancers break down much sooner, in general. He was crippled with pain at a very early age, relatively speakinh
He was a huge and rising star in Russia before he defected. Certainly had he returned he would have been nobody - they would have made sure of it. They hated his free spirit. He was well into his forties here and clearly he is still dancing very well and commanding the stage as well as he ever did. I'm not sure why it's so hard for some people to accept that he really was brilliant.

Nureyev🌹🌹🌺🌺🌺🌷🌷Siempre recordado. Maravilloso

Era único nadie.como el ❤
So exciting to watch, he must have been even more exciting to dance with.
Nureyev maravilhoso 👏👏👏👏👏
Wow!, extraordinary Rudolf!, he´s not from this world, fascinating!
Nureyev ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏
God this man can dance. So stylish and the detail I love his movement quality . And the musicality I've never seen anyone do it like this.

Great!Yoko!!
Thank you for sharing. Her Majesty, the Queen Elizabeth must have been at the balcony there.
## uzubo ~ lf the queen was too busy, then _surely_ Margaret would have been there! She adored Rudic. xD
Morishita 👍
Morishita 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
she still dances in japan
It is very interesting!

Maior bailarino do Mundo , NUREYEV é inigualável !

Único e irrepetible!
I feel he is not comfortable in the space he has to work with. So tiny! Love them💞💞

vero manca armonia tra i due solo perfezione no intimità
Yoko possesses the fragility as well as passionate aggressiveness andrudolf always loved her precision ever since Margo introduced her
Also yoko was so light weight compared 2 western dancers that’s why lots of male dancers wanted 2 dance with her
