    I really appreciate you sharing your general pricing structure. I can do just about anything but don't have a clue as to the pricing because it was always included in the price of the house so not building and just doing small jobs is a challenge for pricing. I just underbid a job 1/3 less than the minimum anyone would charge so if initially start with what you think is a high bid you can take a hit maybe it takes to long you have to allow yourself a little room. bid them like you don't want the job why are you in business might as well keep your 9 to 5.

    Great info. Been doing full renoes for years and thinking to dial back to a few days a week, so handyman work fits perfect. This is great info re: pricing small jobs and I will continue searching your stuff, but what about unforeseen stuff? Ex. toilet change-out: you find sub-floor rotted, flange loose, and so can't refit toilet without some framing, etc. Or shut-off valve leaks after you turn it back on. Is this kind of thing in your contract?

Little bit city surrounded mostly by rural areas in Virginia. I’m totally interested in anything you may have as far as input and advice for pricing or estimates. I’ve been doing construction work for over 35 years and am tired of having to work so hard for so little money and credit. Marketing is the biggest problem with a new start up because of limited funds to spend as well as being able to continue living at the same time. Can you detail the formula used to figure overhead, marketing costs etc...before the hourly rate can even begin to figure out?

    At 2:25 - Keep in mind that you can't just install a ceiling fan onto an existing ceiling fixture box (non-fan rated), even if there was a ceiling fan there prior. You would need to charge extra to replace the box with a fan-rated one, as well as to upgrade the cable to a 14-3 that the fan requires.

      Not trying to be "that guy" but...Handyman & general contractor business doing any electrical work other than fixtures and devises could end up getting your license revoked. Yes, wiring for a ceiling fan or electric for a disposal isn't rocket science but it's illegal for the simplest reason; lack of trade knowledge. (wrong/no boxes, no connectors, too many wires in a box, incorrect bonding, ect..) Basic stuff but still important for safety reasons.

    • @Kuresaltlife
      @Kuresaltlife 5 лет назад +3

      These are normally just called shutoff valves. They make angle and straight valves. If the pipes for a sink come from the floor there is no need for an angle shutoff in most situations. If the pipes come out of the wall, then most likely you would see an angle shutoff. Have you ever used the sharkbite valves? They seem to work really well. Thanks for all of your videos, they are very helpful. Keep up the good work!

    • @RutherfordNJDrywallRepair
      @RutherfordNJDrywallRepair 5 лет назад +3

      what I do is just like you said, give a nice discount if there are two or three items on the list, for instance I do lots of furniture assemblies and typically I charge between $120 to $160 for some ot the bigger assemblies as each piece can take from 3 to 4 to even 5 hours sometimes depending on the complexity of the assembly ( or lack of my expeience at the time ) so if there are two assemblies I will maybe charge $140 instead of $160 for each piece, it really is a judgement call hey all the life is a judgement call , if you want to see that customer again you have to show them you are willing to bargain with them at least on some level because just like you they have to pay the bills! was just trying to help Brother, good luck!!! I believe in the mantra 20 percent of your customers pay 80 percent of your bills best make sure they know and feel you care for them and show your appreciation so you keep that golden 20 percent!!

      Hey Thanks! I appreciate your comment, Tune in tomorrow morning at 6am PST for a new WLOG! It all depends on your needs as a business. I would recommend going through your overhead and figuring out how much you need to make

    • @oldentimes236
      @oldentimes236 5 лет назад +1

      What's your overhead? What do you need to pay yourself (before taxes) to live comfortably? What kind of profit do you want to see for your business? Profit allows you to grow and invest in new tools. NOT replacing tools, but new types of tools to allow you to expand your services. What will the market allow? I personally (in upstate NY) charge $1.00 per linear foot for one story, $2.00 per l.f. two story, $3 per three story, etc. Onsite conditions can raise that price. Minimum $149.00 to come out within my 15 mile/30 min. service area. e.g. If it's three story and I have to do everything off the ladder, I need another person. Hoped this helped. - Ed.

    At 6:35 - 15 to 30 minutes to change an electrical device?? I'm a licensed electrician, and I can change those in 5 minutes or less. I charge $10 each, including the new part (minimum charge of $80 for a service call). In other words, if they call me to have one replaced, they might as well get their money's worth and find 7 more around the house for me to change.

      I am sorry, but your AV guy is no one else but cable puller and potentially shelves hanger. If he's any good with the shelves I'd let him even clean the gutter. The connectivity is really a child's play these days you either get the part that's compatible or not. Throw in some reducers and that's it.

      @@taxman4072 lol yes you really are proud of yourself aren't you? Ok example: 263 cameras on 27 shelves with scales. Cameras and scales are patched to each other and to MDF unit that communicates with many other servers. Miles of CAT6. Hows that different from your wifi comunicating with your stereo, lights, tv and your online account?
      Reducer, adapter..part that connects to otherwise incompatible conectors...you should know it😉
      My point is that judging and putting people in boxes is very immature and not at all professional if that's what you were aiming for with your comment in a first place.

      @@lipeeno aaah, you are a handy man. Now it makes sense.
      Just because you've heard terms and phrases doesnt mean you know what they mean. You sound ridiculous trying to sound like you know what you're talking about. Example: a reducer is not found in an electronics part list. We aren't plumbers. Cameras and scales? What the hell are you talking about? Ironically alot of our projects are fixing handyman specials. That's cool you're handy with various things, but you're also the only quasi trade that think they know it all. There is a reason people dedicate their life to a specific trade. But keep fooling yourself because you know a tiny bit about everything.

    $75.00 for an outlet? questionable takes 5 minutes. What was it $100 for a fixture? Questionable takes 10 minutes. If you can get it all the power to you. I charge $25 a device that's an outlet of a switch GFIs are more and $40.00 a fixture. You're prices are out of this world. Thereal McCoy you have no clue whatsoever about handyman(or any trades for that matter) business. Just like you said, that 150 dollar job can be his only job for a day, maybe the only one for a week, who knows. AND he is self-employed, that means he pays his own and his family health insurance, his truck insurance and repairs, gas, advertising, liability insurance, income taxes for self-employed etc etc. list is endless. You got no idea bud.

      I agree... However, I'm in Texas. I will usually pay $25 to $50/ceiling fan. Maybe the highest I've ever paid is $75. Average is $50.

      As far as cleaning Dryer lines... It depends if you're replacing tubing or if it is fixed. I would expect to pay $75 to $100 depending on what the job entails. If we are just talking about vacuuming out the dryer vent outlet and the line itself, I would expect to pay on the lower end.
