- This is a video of our African Grey parrot calling and whistling for the dog. When he first started doing this Max would go running to see who was calling. Now Max has figured out it's just Larry calling.

Larry was also a rescue parrot. We were lucky to find one so tame and well cared for.

Animals are very interesting creatures and far more present then we are moment to moment. There were some deer outside my window, a big picture window,.... I would feature nature videos for them to watch on my computer screen and they loved it in Early evening when they would gather there to chew the cud. It was a rather secure and protected Meadow Grove area. I learned a lot by observing them. Anyway, animals are very keen to even the smallest details around them even when they seemingly are not.

I love that not only does he call the dog he does the human "baby" voice of calling a dog and the kissy noise we humans make too! THAT is amazing!

Thats funny. have a similar story.. I wondered why my dogs were running so much outside while washing dishes. went outside and herd my cockatiel learned my whistle and had my dogs running back and around the house as they were looking for me. sure tired them out xD

+Kimai Firehawk haha ours will knock on the wall when our dog leaves the room and the dog goes nuts thinking someone is at the door. When he finally settles down and walks out again, our parrot repeats the process. It is pretty comical!
funny thats what my green cheek conure learned to knock on the door aswell. so my parents were thinking they gone crazy xD "is someone at the door or em i hearing things?"

No I love this my aunt had a friend who had a female African grey parrot named aba and the imitations she did were amazing
it sounds like a real voice because it is a real voice.
African Grays are know as some of the best speaking parrots so it doesn't surprise me, I've heard them sound almost real like a human where you can even tell what country the owners of the parrot is from.
They copy voices rather fast.
My girlfriend's bird I think it was a mc call or something like that could imitate the dog whining and barking and the cat meowing to the t never tried to teach it anything it just picked it up crazy how good they can do that shit

Such a handsome grey! It's awesome how they sound like their owners. We got our female from a bird rescue. It was really weird at first because she sounded like her male owner at times. I would be home by myself and hear a man's voice and almost jump out of my skin! They are awesome animals though! So smart!

What a beautiful bird. I have an African Grey parrot name Nikki. She does the same things... They are so much fun to have. Anyone who can not spend any time with them should not own one. They need lots of attention and play time.

I especially crack up when they perfectly mimic the cell phone ringing or the microwave oven tone when it turns off. Or the noises from the coffee machines.... too freaking funny!!!
African Greys are so great we got one for free from someone that couldn’t take care of her anymore but was looking for a loving family to take her. That was 7 years ago and she’s almost human in many qualities.
Now do a video showing Max's response to the bird calling him.

Love listening to these birds talk but at the same time they kind of freak me out -- they sound so human.
Lol I knew someone that had a talking parrot and he always called out to the dog saying come here bear! And eventually the dog grew tired of it and no longer came when anyone called.

Adorable as he is this is a good example why parrots 🦜 need a lot of room space a house 🏡 not an apartment and patience. He is so smart and you can tell somebody loves him very very much and takes the time to let him be what he is a bird...😎❤️
It's a home made stand. It's an 8 foot pine 4x4 cut in half. I mounted it to a base made out of pine 1x4's and a piece of old shelving material. Each perch was cut from long manzanita cage perches. They're mounted to the 4x4 using double sided coarse screws (one side screws into perch the other into the 4x4). This is the third version I've put together through trial and error. We just watched him to see where he liked to perch and how he liked to move from perch to perch and I adjusted.

We have rescues too! Our male African Grey used to make the squeaking sounds of our dogs' toys to get them to come running over.. he thought he was prettyyyy clever!

Unbelievable! What an intelligent African Grey. Superb bird. I'm jealous! Almost a human companion, understanding speech and emotions. If Max is a GSD, then I am doubly envious. A lot of work for two demanding animals, but a universe of joy and being understood by your pets.
This bird is so eloquent...it's amazing really. If I talked to him on the phone I'd think I was talking to a somewhat odd man, but I doubt I'd realize it was a bird! He's hilarious

Parrots are SO cool! What many people don't realize is that, when you get one, that bird will likely outlive YOU! It's not an "adoption" to take lightly. You need to be ready to commit to that bird for a very very long time. They are very loyal & do best with the same owner for literally decades.

we had a bird just like that growing up.sounded similar n a bird named max. we unfortunately had to give up our African grey but seeing this again bring back memories. my kids enjoyed video as well.

He is so funny. Cockatiels to not speak this clearly, but they do like to make noise. I loved Larry's southern accent.

When I was growing up, the neighbors across the street had a parrot named Chico who would do this to their family dog, who would always fall for it. Then Chico would laugh his parrot head off when the dog ran in and nobody was in the room - Chico knew EXACTLY what he was doing.
Chico would also quietly swear under his breath in Spanish when he was frustrated or grumpy. He had led an interesting life before the neighbors ended up with him, for sure...
