Always love watching this series, not many other channels could say that they have educated enthusiasts as much as this series. That is something to really be proud of.
I remember riding one of these at a county fair when I was 8 years old. The compressed air popping sound was the main highlight of the ride as I would always get a weird feeling in my stomach when going up and down repeatedly. This is one of the best flat rides I’ve ever ridden
Thanks for all the great episodes in this series. It is sad to see it being discontinued, but i can understand your decision. I know that both you and Alex will continue to produce great content for us in the future, and I am looking forward to it. What I particularly liked about this series is getting to see rides that are less common or even unknown in my part of the world, as some rides are just more of a US thing than a European/German thing and vice versa. So.. thank you very much!
I think people just want coasters even though that flat rides are what fill up a park/carnival/fair. People always want to talk about the "big" stuff, but forget that the simpler devices, like flat rides, are what everyone ends up going to anyways. Most people wouldn't pay $60 to go to a park that has ONLY two coasters and nothing else. They would however if there were two coasters and other flat rides as well. I think we get so caught up in, "oh, it's just a pirate ship" or "it's just a spin ride" that we neglect that those are the backbone to every amusement ride experience. People will always find reasons to dislike certain flat rides because of a bad experience, but the older we get, the less tolerance we have to thrilling rides. Keep doing videos on flat rides, but just lump them in to something else. There will always be new and better flat rides coming out. Love the videos.
i totally get if theres no time to continue this esp if youre living off youtube royalties but i just wanna say this is an incredible resource and while theres tons of coaster channels theres very little content that gets into these traveling rides and how they worked and evolved etc. having just discovered these i have to say its really great that this stuff is available to watch even if youre discontinuing it in the future, cuz theres really almost nowhere else to find this info in a concise format. if you bring it back i will be here for sure
i also have to say like as someone who creates stuff myself, the analytics game can sometimes be a red herring. like yes if you need this channel to pay your rent do what makes money. but if you love making these videos, as you say, and there are clearly people who love watching them, sometimes it's worth following that even if the money doesn't totally justify it, if you can make it work
I adore flat ride of the week so much. Flat rides are so much more interesting to me than roller coasters. They're so diverse and unique. I understand your reasoning but I'll miss this series!
I'm glad you started this series. It has been festinating to see the history of these rides. I am sad to see it go, but you have to do what is best for the channel. I hope to see more at some point in the future
Wow I've been a big fan of the channel for years now all the way from Adelaide Australia! I live at Sempahore beach where the first clip of the Hurricane was taken!! Its so crazy seeing that clip of the hurricane from my area on one of my favourite channels from across the world!! That exact hurricane is still operating at Semaphore I only just went on it yesterday, its not a busy area as it only has smaller travelling flat rides but because there's not a lot of people the operators extend the ride and speed time for it if you ask!
Used to see this at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This ride was a "HOOT!" Loved its signature SOUND as well! I enjoyed flat ride of the week, especially as a former ride operator. Come of them I ran or experienced. I always appreciated the content and quality of the videos, But you have to do what is right for you.
I always enjoyed watching the latests episode of Flat Ride of the week, and will miss it. But you should always do what you think is best, and I will be watching your future content as well
I'm sad that I won't see Flat Rides. You give such in depth reports and personal experiences. You tell us about the history. Maybe it can come back as Flat ride of the Month? Or randomly post one when you have time.
I've always loved watching flat ride of the week. To be honest I kind of forgot about it because it took you awhile to post another video but now I know why. I'm sorry that you said it's not as popular as a lot of others on your channel. But I've learned a lot about flat rides. And I'm glad you did it. I would love to see what you come up with next pertaining to flat rides in the near future. 👍👍👍
To be fair, you've hit so many flat rides over the course of the last couple years that there's not much left to say; those videos will (hopefully) be there on YT whenever I feel the urge to watch. I've always loved FROTW, but I know I'm in the minority in that regard; I'll miss it, while at the same time appreciating the work that's gone in to creating these videos. Thx again!
Rip flat ride of the week this will be the last flat ride of the week I will miss the series but it doesm ake since because it barely gets views. Thankyou for making this series and making it last this long. goodbye flag ride of the week 😢👋
Right? When I was a kid, specifically three years old, one of these made its way to my local county fair. Used to scare me when the pneumatics would pop like that, but the whir when the rotation sped up as the arms were drawn in was even scarier at the time. Not sure why, and it didn’t help that the outwardly curled light bars at the top of the tower looked like teeth or claws. Three year old me had his imagination running wild I guess.
I really like the flat ride of the week content. Sorry to hear it will be discontinued in its current form I found it very nostalgic and informative as i rode many of these rides as a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s
I really loved Flat Ride of the week, it helped get me through lockdown. I hope you are doing ok. also the hurricane ride looks fun, like it has some airtime
I really loved this ride at the Louisiana State Fair back in the 80's . Every other song they played on the sound system was Rock You like a Hurricane by the Scorpions. Royal American Shows was the Best back in that time. Really will miss FROTW but I am sure you will still show some Flatties in a different format. I understand the work to produce video compared to views.
never ran a Hurricane but have ran a Downdraft..its fun..but you really have to concentrate on when to hit the Zoom..and your high and low pressure gauges..my secret is hit the Zoom slightly before the sweeps hit full low..that gives your sweeps a good bounce..but yes you wanna watch topping it off consecutively as you can whip the angular retention cables..only hit Zoom every other fly once you top it off (aka distinct hiss compered to pop)..
G'day! We’re all Big Fans of sharing the history of Theme Parks. This includes Rides (Roller-coasters, Water Slides), Attractions (Walkthrough Exhibits, Fun Houses), Dark Rides (Sit Down Ride-thru), Aquatic Zoos (Aquariums), Live Entertainment (Ballrooms). It's interesting to see how technology improved these classic fun zones, how they changed with the times (the beginning of children areas) .... and kind of a reminder that it you "ignore maintenance and park guests feedback" (suggesting - urban renewal requiring new residential property also contributed to things, .... and as it has been noted, recovering from the Depression era took a financial toll on investors). And plus, the Internet to share how the history of Theme Parks / Amusement Parks influenced our favorite Rides and Attractions at Disneyland and Knott's. I hope you will continue to jump into your time rover, and learn about the history and development of theme parks. Am hoping "flat-rides will get some new form!! You give such in depth information and personal experiences. Suggestion.. Maybe it can come back as Flat ride of the Month?" Lol! Cheers! 🎡🎢❤😊 P.S. The rides are too big for museums but too precious to lose. The next time you're traveling near one of these survivors, stop by and lend your support by giving them a scream or two. Lol! Thank you!
I' can totally understand why you feel you need to stop with Flat ride of the week. >.< youtube's algorithm is really killing everything that's not immediately popular upon release and it's hurting channels as a whole when one video doesn't do well. It means content creators can't diversify their content in any way without losing tons of views because even their 'regular' content doesn't get recommended if the video before that hasn't gotten the expected views. I've seen it with other channels as well, like gaming channels that are popular for one game in particular that can't do videos on other games because the drop in viewership would mean their whole channel gets recommended less. It's really messed up, really really messed up.
You should do one on the "Orbiter" Manufactured by Tivoli, but many companies have made many different variants with different names like "Remix" for example.
This is such a random comment I am so sorry in advance but your voice reminds me soooo much of the voice of H. H. Holmes in the Devil In Me game, has anyone ever told you that before? (I promise I mean this in a complimentary way, despite him being a serial killer hahah) Loving your content!
Had a Hurricane at a local carnival when I was younger... I was so terrified of it for years and never rode it, UNTIL one year, I decided it was the year I was going to ride it❕ Unfortunately they changed companies and the ride never came back :< I would love to own one of these and have it in my yard XD
If you bring back FLOTW, you should do a carousels episode on one of, if not the oldest amusement ride ever made! (maybe even before the roller coaster). Maybe do it as a "Proper Farewell" episode, history on where it all began, one last blast to the past, maybe you even do it live!
I guess you wont see me next time lol. This content was at least unique. I definitely understand from a numbers point of view, but IMO, RUclips should be about sharing your passions, not chasing viewers. There's enough contrived videos as it is. You do you though!
it's not just about the views on this video though. It's the youtube algorithm that punishes the whole channel if one video doesn't do as well as the others.
I’ve ridden both a downdraft and hurricane, both were fun but I thought the downdraft didn’t have enough forces. The hurricane ran a 8 minute cycle and was uncomfortable due to the length of the laterals
When I was a Kid, my cities Festival had the Hurricane for years. For some reason they took it out and I never saw it again. Amazing and fun ride for sure.
My favorite ride in the world I have a video of it on my off topic channel butler fair 2022 ix indoor amusement park is a great one sad thing is tip top from bates bros is removed for good full video of hurricane or downdraft?
The UFO is a stand up similar to the enterprise. It scared me as a kid because I felt like I i cpuld fall out easy when my weight shift changed at the top. Lol still a fun ride though.
The one thing I don't like about the Downdraft ride is its restraints. I wish they had some padding on them so they don't hurt so much when you slam into them.
The Hurricane was invented by Norman Bartlett. It was so named because his wife claimed the ride blew her hair like a hurricane. Allen Herschell manufactured the ride for many years as a ground mounted carnival attraction. Originally with 8 sweeps then later reduced to 6. When Chance Manufacturing bought out Allen Herschell the ride was discontinued. That’s when Frank Hrubetz bought the concept & the name. at the same time Clyde Mulligan bought several ground, mounted hurricanes and figured out how to trailer mount them. He had to come up with a new name for this ride so he named it after the Saturn five rockets . Mulligan engineering produced several Saturn 6’s over the next few years.
disappointing that you stopping this series - hopefully after a break a re-launch might revive views. I literally just found the series today and ive been stuck ever since, it’s quite intriguing. Hope to see you bring this back in the future 😢

I was never a huge fan of Hurricane rides back in the day, but I've found new interest due to Downdraft at Knoebels (which my daughter loves to ride).

Just binged most of this series, too bad it’s going away 😢
Hopefully it will be back in some form soon
omg, this was one of my favorite series to follow. 🥺
Flat ride of the week was my favorite series on the channel 😢 still going to watch everything as per usual but it’s a bummer there won’t be any more.
Thank you guys for these videos! Exited for the next show but sad to see this one go.
This was an amazing series and it will be missed

They absolutely will, next flat ride related video on 1/28!

Flat Ride of The Week was my favorite series. RIP.
Dang. I just started watching this series (and your channel). Sorry to see it go, but understand.
Aww man. RIP flat ride of the week 😢
Finally one I’ve actually ridden! Hurricanes are so fun and it’s a good transition ride for younger riders who haven’t ridden many rides.

This was my fav ride at the Canfield fair! Always remember me and my father first in line! And that air compression was always so loud but fun!
Good Ol' Canfield!🐔
@@Dfk429S9fo3 Something to crow about!!!
I really like this channel, so I hope to see more videos from you.
I really enjoyed this series. Very informative
You should've also talked about the similar rides in this episode like the Huss Swing-a-round and the Apollo's.
My local county fair had a Hurricane, and it was my favorite ride!

We got 1 hurricane 🌀 in New zealand 🇳🇿 went on it for the new year was a lot of fun about a 4 minit ride not to bad for only 7 dollars 😉
